I would love to find of a solution to this problem. Its a big barrier for new players learning the game.
Brain dump:
How many of your own cooldowns must you know to be effective. Skills? Traits? Sigils? Runes? Attunements? Kits? Transforms? Everything?
How many cooldowns are too many cooldowns / whats the minimum number to know?
Same question for enemies. How much skill is involved with remembering enemy cooldowns?
Would this new piece of UI benefit PvE the same amount?
Where could this UI live?
First thing that pops into my mind would look just like the quick-loot tray on the right side of the screen with a scrolling list of ordered cooldowns showing name/icon. (No loot in PvP)
I can’t think of any way this could work for enemies.

Ummm…you do know that you can just go to curse and download their cd trackers for Wow and copy it right? Someone who, in their spare time, made very effective cd trackers.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

Just combine all the maps in one.

-use boat map
-add underwater buffs, one of which makes your team control the sharks – but the sharks attack you so you can’t get it huehuehue
-add a lord pit somewhere
-make the mid point a clock tower on the boat
-replace cannons with trebuchets
-add an underwater chieftain, centrally located
-make orbs spawn on the roof of the clock tower

It has a much higher learning curve, which is why you see people that dislike(typically too complex for them)

i wouldnt say it was the complexity that drove me away. that was just fine.

it was just the clumsy feel of the game. just didnt feel like the way a 3rd person game of any kind should. to me at least.

it’s really hit or miss for a lot of people.

i played it for about 6 or so months. didn’t really like it. felt too clunky, the UI is awful and it’s anything but streamlined. WoW feels a lot better than GW1 ever did.

GW1 had lore-breaking events too – how does a commando fit into the lore there? Don’t be such a grump. It won’t be there forever. Ignore it if you wish, while the rest of us have fun with it.

most modern fantasy MMO’s have this. WoW does it, Rift does it, i’m sure when elder scrolls online comes out it will do this too..

anyway, OP if you’re so into your fantasy, you can still always grab a few friends and play some dungeons and dragons.

actually WOW next patch is gonna make all gear in PVP have the same stats. it’s a huge change

thats only in rated BGs from what i understand. then again, i dont follow wow too closely anymore. i only play whenever i feel like spending $15, which is only every now and then.

regardless, gear treadmills in pvp are just frustrating. especially if youre getting into pvp for the first time. sure it doesnt matter in wow at the 2200+ rating range because everyone there obviously has their uberwrathfulherpderp gladiator gear.

its not bad that new people are playing.

what is bad is that there is no form of matchmaking. or of there is, it’s very minimal. if anything, for solo que/tournaments in general, there ought to be a rank requirement of at least 10. until then, do hotjoins until you figure out the game/maps.

on top of that, take out the tournament matches played portion of the monthly.

You don’t like that map? I think temple is a really well made map. Fun side objectives and the map layout is great.

i just think its way claustrophobic. to me at least. always get swamped by zergs. just my luck i guess

the real issue i have with warrior is a total lack of survivability.

it just feels like warrior takes damage way too easily and has little to nothing to make up for it. the heal spells are sub-par and hardly appealing.

that said, i still play my warrior for the most part.

those are all handicaps and if you use them youre 100% awful and should quit.

I’m kind of sick of having a good start to a game, the rest of the team gets kitteny and only focuses of orb leaving the enemy team to capture all our nodes. I can’t defend them all myself.

And yes, I’m talking about solo/duo ques in tPvP.

Today i have found something worse. During solo queue someone took the orb and, after that, stood in the middle looking for fight.

This is just bad gameplay to be honest, remember you engaged with 2 utilities on cooldown in a 1v1 that gives you a massive disadvantage in any matchup.
Ok here’s what you did wrong:

  • 0:12 – Random dodge
  • 0:14 – Useless Shield 5
  • 0:16 – Good dodge, but could’ve got an attack skill off instead and dealt more damage.
  • 0:27 – Missed your entire burst, 2 utilities wasted
  • 0:29 – Whirling’d the wrong way
  • 0:31 – Random Dodge
  • 0:37 – Ignored Shadow Refuge
  • 0:45 – Missed Whirling
  • 0:46 – Random Dodge
  • 0:54 – Random Dodge
  • 1:00 – Missed Shield 4
  • 1:15 – Random Dodge

I Stopped watching there, you don’t dodge correctly, just randomly press it. A lot of bad skill usage, of course you’re going to lose to a clearly superior enemy, I don’t think he’s goo either.
This is what I meant in my earlier thread of learn to dodge because this is why people think thieves are OP.

On a sidenote, why the fascination with entangling roots. Every class has MANY ways to get out of this ability, if it hits in the first place any teleport, condition removal, block, invuln or dodge will instantly negate its effect. It is one of the easiest countered elites in the game

because im awful and never dodge roll (i literally dont have it bound to anything and never use it) i never use condition removals and i never do anything you mentioned.

LOL! Well then I would say in your case this would be a death sentence because it may do up to 15kish on its own, plus the ranger’s damage during that time!

well 99% of encounters are since i usually just run up to enemy players and emote /cheer at them while they kill me.

every now and then (aka never) i run into someone doing the same thing.

even if it is as bad as OP makes it seem, it isnt something that needs to be nerfed.

if you ask me, if you and the ranger that you were fighting both get downed, their pet should be able to finish you.

its only fair that their pets can still have functionality when the ranger itself is down.

Map.

The maps are hideously tiny with virtually no line of sight. Its incredibly easy to become the center of focus fire for rofl ranged cc/immobilize/chill/cripple spam to lock you down from every direction. People just need look at you and roll their knuckles across the keyboard, never having to position themselves.

The guy i just beat down and stomped comes back 20 seconds later, running across the diagonal of the map with just normal running speed whilst i am still taking on another foe.

Floating Healthbars

The same problem in WoW where players just have to look for misfortunate players to unload their execution spells on. Showing everyones hp is a major driving force for the zerging problem, where everyone bypasses the proper nodes they need to assault/defend just to chase someone who is at low health whos 5 points to the enemy team isnt worth the points lost for not grabbing nodes.

It is incredibly lame for the travelling person being ganked and for the competent player looking to win matches.

Gimmicky kitten from Classes

I see very few people playing builds/playstyles that dont revolve around an obnoxious/unavoidable mechanic.

Examples:

Necromancers who build up toughness/vit to run up to nodes, just to turn on plague form and button mash the blind, contesting it for 30 seconds, and longer since 2900 armor and 30k health doesnt take down itself.

Rangers who hide next to water or water based nodes/combat just to abuse the underwater pet heal, or only choose to fight with another person so that they can be covered in the land downed state while their pet rofl heals them back up. Or sword/dagger/shortbow rangers relying on nearly endless cycles of dodging hoping their pet can take down your hp as you frantically attempt to hit them in the middle of their dodges.

Mesmers who abuse the Sword #2 whenever they mess up a keystroke or blink into a wall. Killshot damage in 2 seconds while invincible, 25% uptime invulnerability. Also, most mesmer builds revolved around stacking3-4 stealths, blinks, position swaps, and culling abuse, utilizing a stupid high health pool with low cd tricks to endlessly cycle them with little penalty for misusing a skill.

Thieves who stack 6 stealths and shortbow warp, many of which on low cd’s to repeatedly dissapear, easily compensating for lack of good judgement for when to flee or avoid combat for a duration. Also, thieves who stack burst for steal/backstab incrediburst, and heartseeker spam to ensure their hits never miss and <50% targets go down in a flash.

Elementalists who can use various mist forms/movement abilities to easily mitigate large portions of damage and flee from any engagement. Ive seen an elementalist on Battle of Khylo go from one of the corner nodes to the base path of Clocktower in 4 seconds, all the while invincible, escaping 6 teammates. Of course, water-healing builds with incredible lame healing persecond, combined with movement abilities to stay untouched and waste your time.

I rarely get to enjoy fighting builds/players that outplay me from proper use of evading/cc/healing, or fighting scenarios where the opposing player/players escapes being killed for points by these ludicrous methods.

I think people who play pvp just to abuse these mechanics are lame and wasting everyone’s time, and perhaps a large chunk of the reason S PvP has been so unpopular since 3 months after release and onward.

2. lolwat. i have no idea how healthbars make pvp any better or worse.

3. welcome to every mmo ever.
a. never seen a necro do this. ever. ive only seen plague thing used defensively.
b. because every map has water in it. only a problem on raid on capricorn. getting out of being kited isn’t too difficult.
c. mesmers are supposed to be confusing/annoying. if you know what they can and can’t do, its a lot easier.
d. i don’t see the point in complaining about the sneaky class being sneaky. if you’re letting a thief bounce in and out of combat that easily, it’s you’re fault, not them being op or anything. backstab thieves usually only one or two shot glass cannons. if you aren’t running a glass cannon, you shouldn’t worry too much.
e. yea elementalists are frustrating. they’re like the frost mages of gw2.

most of the time, there is a counter to most anything any class can throw at you. it’s a matter of knowing what you can do and what they can do.

replace the hotjoin things with some sort of queue for map system. sort of like the join solo option for tournaments.

tweak the rewards some, less rewarding than actually setting up a tournament yourself. maybe just make it all just one round. give the ability to queue for a specific map, or a random one for a slightly better reward. make a call to arms sort of thing for every week in which a single map gives a slightly better reward.
make a separate interface for actual tournaments that give better rewards to participants. make a better interface for establishing permanent tournament teams. give teams and players an MMR.

aka just copy WoW. dead serious. the way it’s PvP joining/queuing/organization is a lot more intuitive than the system in GW2. i don’t generally like it when games copy other games (especially when it comes to copying WoW), but with this, i would seriously make an exception. to me, PvP in this game is just handled so poorly in terms of organization and the interface. the hotjoin servers are just strange and really don’t seem to make sense in an MMO. it works in shooters or games like LoL. they clash with the hotjoins and seem really useless.
inb4 flame posts everywhere. haters gonna hate i guess.

im not even going to go into balance issues (mostly because they really don’t exist. it’s all a matter of knowing other classes and your own class.)

add more game types? yes. control points/conquest/whatever you want to call it is fun for a while, but it would be really nice to see some more variety. capture the flag, a mix of ctf with conquest points, deathmatch kind of arenas would all be welcome.

I’m almost sure this has been brought up at least once, but it’s seriously annoying. Now sure it doesn’t happen too often, but every now and then I’ll be in a server and see at least one AFKer standing around. Sometimes more than one, sometimes enough to where the other team has an upper hand. It even seems to happen in the new hot-join thing.

Why isn’t there a report AFK function of any sort?
