I personally look forward to all the upcoming pvp changes. If they can make the pvp in gw2 as awesome as it was in gw1 then this game will keep me busy for a very long time. It is already decent but definitely needs an arena/deathmatch game type. I know they are stoked about getting everyone to play their king of the hill type but I know that doesn’t appeal to every pvp player as much as a simple team deathmatch would. Not sure why they are so stuck on only one type. Hopefully that will change and we can see a good guild vs guild return with some leader boards and good matchmaking.

This. I would absolutely love it if they finally put in a deathmatch type game.

Even capture the flag would be welcomed.

And GvG would be a godsend.

I’d definitely start playing again, as much as I did before if anything to improve PvP comes out.

WvW could use some revamps too. Some variety in the maps for each borderland would be pretty cool. Have it shuffle them or something.

Ripping off reality in no way makes a game compelling. As far as I’m concerned, humans should never have been a part of Guild Wars or indeed any work of fiction set in another universe.

You have no idea what you are talking about, by the way. Guild Wars 1 was pretty much all about humans, there were almost no other civilized races to speak of(dwarves and tengu come to mind) until the GW2 prequel came out…er…I mean Eye of the North. By your definition, every single work of art(game) in existence that references humanity is crap. Narrow-minded much?

it’s called sturgeons law. 90% of everything is crap.

as for the topic, i didnt play much of factions, only seeing the big city place a couple times. it was pretty interesting and i would like to see it implemented into gw2 in some way shape or form.

It’s a different game. Deal with it. Personally, I prefer it this way, since you don’t get people saying “you didn’t spec your warrior to tank; you can’t play with us”.

This game is about crowd control and boon stacking; that’s where the teamwork comes in. It happens kind of automatically, but I have yet to attempt coordinating fields and finishers to max out combo bonuses.

there just needs to be more emphasis on control and support. and the combo field thing really just seems to be like a gimmick to me. it needs to be improved to make it more appealing.

There’s plenty of complaining on the WoW forums (and every MMO forum).

If anything it’s worse on WoW forums as it’s the same crowd as Diablo 3 – blizzard die-hards, mostly kids and immature adults stuck in gear-ego rat race who just reply with “lolol l2p nub qt” – whereas here we actually have most people with proper grammar and actual words.

Hehe no.

The typing of complaining here on these forums indicated systemic problems and universal dissatisfaction with things that may not be able to be fixed.

Complaining about class balance is one thing. Complaining about how the game works or doesn’t – and is fun or isn’t – is another discussion entirely. And that’s what we have here.

the forum community of just about every game ever is universally dissatisfied with whatever game it may be. the WoW forums are full of more than just “AMG FROST MAGES ARE SO OP” posts

then they just dont make any one class better than the other. make all of them bring their own unique thing to the table and not a blatant x y and z are the best ever and the others are all useless.

Also.. the game’s skill bars were pretty much custom-built for razr nostromo.Without it, i’d probably go insane, and adding another skill to the bar would do this.

actually more weapon skills that could be switched out in the same way utility skills are could be interesting.

say one handed weapons in the main hand have around 9 or so choices that you could assign to the 3 slots you have for them. and 2h weapons have 15 choices that can be slotted into any one of your buttons.
will it be implemented? probably not.

forrae.6708

This is what I mean by saying the lack of a trinity can’t support complex, challenging encounter design. Considering Trion released that fight on their second major content patch for their first MMO ever and Arenanet is still making simplistic content with their second content patch fast approaching on their second MMO to date it says a lot about Arenanet’s commitment to good game design.

im not sure how you wouldnt be able to make complex encounters without a trinity system. actually, i think it would be easier to make challenging a complex encounters with GW2’s system, its just Anet doesnt seem to be focusing in on that at the moment. they may never focus on that because that might not be a market they want to appeal to, which is fine by me. sure i like challenging content and i would love to see something really difficult implemented in GW2, but so far from what i have seen, i think that it was built with PvP more in mind, which is odd considering the lack of sPvP content, but we’ll save that for a different thread.

there just needs to be more emphasis and interest in the control and support roles, simple as that. encounters need to emphasize these rolls and make them more valuable. bosses are bland and uninteresting. i dont think the lack of the trinity or super defined roles is the issue, but a lack of compelling and challenging content.

as a side note, i havent noticed any sort of “we only want x y and z classes because the other five are horrible.” ive never been kicked from groups because i wasnt any of the “three best classes” in the game, nor have i ever seen anyone get kicked or turned down from joining a group for that reason.

you want trinity? go play a game that has the system. period.

in the meantime, there are a ton of things that could be done to make the PvE more interesting.

they have said they replaced the idea of tank, healer and DPS with control, support and damage. however, as far as i can see, damage really seems to take precedence when in groups. on the individual level, knowing how support and control works makes the game vastly more enjoyable and interesting. its just when put in a group when things feel a little faceroll and meh. i really like the dungeons, they’re interesting and nothing like anything i’ve seen in WoW and the other mmos ive played. i like that it isn’t just trash boss trash boss trash boss win. i like that there are more events and and puzzles and other such things that require more cooperation than most boss fights in most games. sure the bosses are lacking and usually arent too interesting, but ill take their word that these issues will be addressed with an update in the next few months.

with that said, what i really think should also be taken into consideration along with more interesting encounters is a greater emphasis on the control and support rolls. right now, it only feels like a few classes and builds have an emphasis on group support while the rest that have any support at all are more for the individual. same goes with control. to see an expansion on these two rolls, plus bosses/trash that require a good knowledge of control and support the PvE in GW2 could be vastly improved without the need of introducing the same old same old trinity system from other games.

there are better ways to doing dungeons and the likes that just copying what everyone else does and i think GW2 takes a step in the right direction, it just needs to be refined and reworked some.

Creating Legendary items needs to be changed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: forrae.6708

forrae.6708

sure its difficult and not impossible to get one.

it just seems so freakishly boring..

legendary. the weapon should have a story behind it, there should be some sort of story to acquiring it with its own challenges and the likes on the way. not a legendary amount of farming/doodling on the auction house. just makes the game feel more like an auction house simulator a la diablo 3.

You know it’s cute how everyone says “make it skill-based” or “challenging” but no one provides specific ideas.

If you make it skill based, the casuals will complain. And how the heck can you make something ‘skill’ based in an MMO s complicated as this one?

How are you going to make it so difficult that it won’t result in every single player having a legendary?

lol. i didnt even say make it challenging or skill based. i just said make it more interesting than farming for crap all day. its mind numbing and just bad. give it a story line to get the weapon, or something like that. force people to go places other than the places where the vendors that sell the gifts are. and more than just running dungeons to get marks to get the gifts from the dungeon vendors.

its better than most mmos thats for sure.

as a xmas gift, i got the new wow expac and some play time. just so i dont see it go wasted i decided to level my characters. i had forgotten how clunky it is. seriously feels like controlling a brick, whereas gw2’s combat feels like driving a sports car or something.

what im trying to say is, its a lot more enjoyable than most games and to me, thats all that really matters. how fun is it? and quite frankly, gw2’s combat is way more fun than the faceroll and hope you do more damage than your target does that wow and other mmo’s offer. it makes me think instead of mindlessly smash my keyboard (and end up having to buy a new one a few months later)

Is the imbalance in this game intended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: forrae.6708

forrae.6708

Why is it considered absolutely correct for only two classes in the game to be allowed to one shot anything or anyone?

Imbalance is not right, it shouldn’t be there and if you are giving one shot abilities to those two classes you need to spread it around.

everything a class does, another has a counter for. its like rock paper scissors.

if everything were 100% balanced no problems whatsoever, nothing would be very fun. developers who try to chase balance find themselves on a wild goose chase, especially in an MMO.

as for those classes able to one or two shot everything. guardians can take a lot of damage but tend to not dish out a lot. thieves can easily two shot you if you let them but they themselves are quite squishy. try playing one and you’ll see. its not like there is one class that is 100% invincible to everything and can one shot everything.

There’s an old phrase which is pertinent to this game. Jack of all trades, master of none. You can try and be everything at once and fail horribly, or you can play to your strengths and succeed. Not every class was built equal, so why treat them as such?

while i agree with OP and most of the people endorsing some balance in your character/build, this quote also rings true.

take the thief for example. you can stack as much vit and toughness and healing power on one but you’ll still be relatively squishy, mostly because the class wasnt designed to be heavily played as a “tanky” sort of class.

i really do like GW2’s combat system and the way classes can work together. i wouldnt say they entirely threw out the concept of the trinity, but rather improved upon it or made it different and more entertaining and not completely mandatory. ive done dungeons in which there was not a single heavy armor class in the group and we fared just as well as if there was one. i guess its just what you want to make of it.

It’s not a thief balance issue it’s called culling and they are already working on it. Culling makes a delay before you actually see the enemy who’s using stealth reappear. Fight any shadow skelk in the pve zones and you’ll see the same thing. It does the reappear animation poof and then 4-5 seconds later you’ll see him appear and be able to attack him. Yes or No: Manifesto Represents the Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: forrae.6708

forrae.6708

the manifesto doesnt even need to represent the game.

A manifesto is a written public declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the issuer, be it an individual, group, political party or government

intention: “A course of action that a person intends to follow.”
intend: “To fix the mind upon (something to be accomplished); be intent upon; mean; design; plan; purpose.”

all it did was show us, the player base, how the developers viewed the game and MMOs in general. nothing in it said that they promised to do this or do that. they showed us what they intended on doing and what they believed a good MMO should be. it showed us their motives as to creating this game. nowhere did they promise to exclusively deliver a game that lives up to all of their views and motives. i may intend to go do something, but it doesnt mean ive made an obligation to do so. a manifesto is more a statement than a promise. nothing in any of this means they have to do so and they are free to change their intentions, intent and views at any time. maybe Anet realized their original intentions were simply unattainable? who can say. of course, they arent. and legally, they dont have to. (ethically is a different story)

now, if they had made a pledge, commitment, promise or oath of design then we would have every right to expect them to do whatever it is they put in it. in fact, with that they would even be legally bound to.

sure they may have violated their manifesto (or may not have, only time will tell) but they had no real commitment to truly uphold it. i can intend on making my car fly under its own power by the end of the year but it doesnt mean anyone can truly hold me to that end.

tl;dr: semantics rant bla bla bla
