Another problem is that the few teams that play, are getting stomped by the pro teams because there is no rated matchmaking or anything. There is no middleground! You either farm glory in hotjoin, which is boring and easy or you need to practice daily with a team to win tournies constantly.
Whenever i play with my team, i barely face teams like us. It’s either a pug that we stomp or a higher ranked team that beats us (not always but mostly). It’s demotivating! We want to fight people of equal skill! I have team members that almost want to quit the game now…
Meeting people is a b-tch.
You pretty much have to find a core group of dedicated players and run with it pretty daily… I mean without any good way of meeting other interested/skilled players to fill gaps in a group regularly in this game… it makes filling gaps in a tourny group an utter pain in the kitten … so people without a dedicated schedule aren’t all that wanted… leaving it as just a pain in the kitten to be in that middle ground of “I’m good but not looking for the dedication of a pro team”.
(edited by garethh.3518)
After I’m done complaining on forums…
Probably go back to Oblivion.
SUCH A GOOD GAME (when modded out, FCOM is the kitten).
Rangers have a few decent specs, there are other classes to play too with plenty working setups.
Really lapses in balance I typically can live with in a game (its worse in this conquest setup since it puts so much emphasis on spec itself) but I can manage.
If the rest of the game wasn’t so against what I am looking for in an MMO though….
[another rant for another thread though]
45~% less BASE health makes balancing harder, but so does having 8 different classes with 5 traitlines, a couple dozen utilities and 6~ weapons.
None of that is going to change though.
If you have a complaint about a specific role (since it seems like you do) that should be your focus?
Ele’s and guardians have a fair deal to make up for their lack of health, sure that’s a given.
Engi’s are only good because of bombs.
I mean only viable, like at all (from what I’ve seen), so they have their own set of issues…
Anyways, bunkers being extremely tough to kill, that is a ‘problem’ that has been posted a billion times.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Simple…give points only to winners at the end of the match, not during it…like gw1 old good days…you’ll never see nabs zerging again and this would also stop unskilled people from farming points doing nothing for the team, and maybe they’ll l2p
Yeup, and just have scoreboards.. for… well.. score, like dmg dealt/taken, killing blows, kills on/near BO and whatnot not this trash of ‘glory’ that doesn’t actually relate to anything but taps on kills and endcaps of BOs.
If they fixed the dye issue, and made more of the gear appealing, I would see glory meaning something, at least to me.
(not that I would spend time grinding for it and it alone)
On topic though, I find it unbearable because of the playstyle.
The game tossed the trinity but didn’t recreate anything to get people working together. Synergy is mainly only possible in high up premades with voicechat…
By making every spec have a part of eveything (healer/dps/tank), instead of setting that up to make everyone relly on each other more so work together more… Anet more just turned everyone into their own standalone entity in PvP (I heal myself, I deal dmg by myself, I mitigate dmg by myself), short of the lil bunker/roamers deal, and preplanned->voice-chatted out tactics, of course.
The point of MMOs that I find entertaining is playing with people, fighting with people to kill others… not just near other people while I kill others…
How the kitten am I supposed to bond with someone if I never really get a chance to work with them in PvP… to boot half the time you don’t even notice if someone is playing well around you since the scorecard is kittentastic.
Deuling and jumping in a few high up tourny groups was the only thing i found entertaining in this game, and both were few and far between…
Good idea Anet, terrible excecution.
All I have to say.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Don’t stand in the caltrops.
If you say “but I’m defending a BO”, warriors should rarely ever be bunkers.
Reroll a guardian or ele.
If you are running greatsword, just whirlwind out of it in his general direction (for some free dmg too).
Then the thieves dmg is mediocre, attack him in the gaps of LDB, its really easy when you get the hang of it. Shield bash or bull’s charge or eviscerate or flurry (which you interrupt after starting -> 100-blades) will kitten him up. Just keep an eye on shadowstep, only pop bull’s charge or frenzy after its down.
LDB thieves don’t tend to be a good 1v1 spec.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Are you talking about PvP???
Shout warriors are like shout guardians… except worse….
Even ele’s have a patch on them in near every sense.
Just not something worth worrying about atm, there are other classes with generally the same setup that do the job allot better.
Warriors are mostly just a nigh unshakable high burst/sustained dps class atm.
(and lets face it there are many more problems with this game than a class only having 1 tourny quality sort of style of play)
(edited by garethh.3518)
The more people you add to a map the more casual it becomes. In terms of GW2 if you want casual pvp then WvW is what the game offers in that respect. The premise of 5 players in spvp is possibly the only saving grace of the format, as the less the number of players, the more individual skill matters and more than 5 players causes difficulty when forming a group and waiting on people.
Warhammers scenarios were very very casual, sure they were fun but I dont know if I would refer to them as actual “pvp” with the intent of promoting and pushing skill boundaries. Then again GW2 is struggling a bit in that regard to, but still fares better than warhammer when providing challenging pvp.
The dynamics of this 5v5 conquest is cool for tournaments, but short of a voice chat setup group…
It’s just bad.
The balancing around 5v5 made innate synergy between classes near non-existant. GW2 tossed the trinity but didn’t actually replace it with anything to make classes work together… bunkers bunker and roamers roam you can work a team comp to get some synergy in it, but short of that it really isn’t that existant….
That’s why, at least, I think of this games pugging as bad zerging (near all pug play is zerging to some degree), you basically just go out there and solo kill as much stuff as you can with the occasional rez. Working with people (not just next to) isn’t a notable part of the playstyle… it laughably puts tons of emphasis on the spec you run, and balance is one of the worst aspects of the game atm…
WAR SCs promoted and pushed skill boundaries. Sure if you joined after they introduced ranks 80+ or only ran in a heavy-gear premade and macro’d your toon to hell and back, it got allot harder, but short of that it was good for it. The group dynamic gave an extreme room for tactics based on positioning alone.
GW2 has a better base combat setup, don’t get me wrong, and more Esport potential. But is living up to it half, if even that, as well.
And WvW isn’t a replacement for larger scenario play…
They are completely different.
If you’ve played WAR you know that a 12v12 is nothing like RvR (their WvW), at all.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Fixing the ranger class is only one of a bajillion things that needed to happen before release…
At least, you know, because the game was hyped as a highly competitive Esport…
Anyways, when or how well they fix the class… with what they’ve shown us of how much effort they are putting into PvP…
I wouldn’t dare to hope.
Good post, agree with it.
One of the main kickers, at least for me, was the lack of synergy.
The game is 5v5 conquest.
Balanced around and only played threw.
A solid tourny setup, but terrible pug.
It caused working with people in this game to involves voicechat, pretty much end of story. The game has its teamwork don threw maneuvering around to cap/keep BOs, the disparity of who is with who (along with the general class setup) just ruined open synergy between players.
They got rid of the trinity which made synergy part of PvP by nature but didn’t actually replace it with anything. That just left classes as far too standalone to really fit my taste, at all…
(bunkers bunker and roamers roam… you can work a comp to have toons be able to work together to any notable degree but it is just rarely there otherwise)
Pug PvP, it involves zerging, it always does in every game, but this pug PvP by far, to me, is the least entertaining I’ve played (I went threw WAR->Rift->here, was one of the top zealots on war for a while, in Rift I playedh a rogue till the final tier while they were still a terrible class [won near every 1v1 and never touched the assassin tree, that and me and my brother won 2v4~s pretty consistently] then rerolled a half dozen toons before leaving since 1-40? was a hell of a blast)
I loved WAR, thought Rift was great play till the final tier… GW2 had a chance to trump them all, WAR had 99 problems because of a shoddy after release dev team; Rift screwed up their entire PvP end game, had a terrible open world PvP system and a mess for team v team fights; leaving plenty of room for improvement. GW2’s combat is even setup far better, but the devs just couldn’t work out how to make classes work together, there isn’t good balance at all, SPvP matching is just bad (as in it is an utter pain to find a server at your skill level and worth playing in, for whatever goal you have in mind), terrible bragging rights (bad looking gear and score cards that say nothing) that and tournies are blind (no idea what team is doing what and winnning) and mean nothing (just tickets in an inventory). Oh and of course auto-dyeing.. kitten its more obnoxious than anything… if its for observer mode, put it in observer mode.
So close, but they failed.
I’m sorry there’s just too much they ‘almost’ did for me to see any hope for the game’s PvP keeping a large populations attention (nonetheless mine)…
I’m starting to think its a conspiracy, I can’t see how corporations funneling so much money into games can get such bad results… especially when everything a dev team needs is already out there, if they just slapped together the best parts of other games people would thank them…
But i can’t think of an aim worth all the time/money…
><
(edited by garethh.3518)
Lol no offense but duels dont really mean much, I win alot of mine also but the game isnt balanced around duels, hell I could go on guardian and win 95% of duels with 1 build but not be viable for tpvp because its too squishy. Ranger has ummm no real viable builds atm. Basically anything you think is viable someone else can do better.
None taken, but you are missing the context of the post.
This wasn’t talk about tourny grade play, someone said they were having a hell of a time just matching people in scrub-ee-dub play so I threw out there, it probably just is your specific build and gave an example of what mine does for context.
Its unfortunate, but you need to be able to quickly and easily identify who’s on what side visually – that’s why one team is entirely red, the other entirely blue…
Every other MMO I’ve played has managed without it.
As an addon to spectator mode or Esports commentated tournies, I could understand, but in normal PvP?
I will admit I’ve only killed thieves that allow me to kill them, who don’t stealth and reset the fight. There’s really no counter to that (besides teleporting the moment you drop combat, because you can’t outrun them), I have to use all my cooldowns to kill them, they aren’t available for a second fight.
Thieves don’t stealth that much…
Higher dps ones usually only go into it threw “C&D” which is extremely dodgeable, “shadow refuge” which wolf pets can fear them out of or traps can put tons of hurt on them in, or “the heal skill” which shortbow can interrupt if you have good reflexes
(I suggest having the shortbow spammable on ‘auto attack’, it increases your reaction time for concussion shot by allot, if you manually push #1 it will go threw the full attack animation, even if you clicked concusion shot halfway threw; if the #1 key is on ‘auto attack’ and you use concussion shot halfway threw the spammable’s animation, the spammable will instantly be interrupt and concussion shot will go off with no delay. That and you don’t have to keep clicking the spammable key, freeing up your fingers to float above other keys (aka, faster reaction time)).
Then, of course you should bind ‘stow/draw’ weapons to a convenient key to interrupt that spammable for things like ‘projectile reflection’ and whatnot.
Anyways, spike thieves don’t tend to stealth easily and rangers have a few counters in the class to deal with it.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Huh… greatsword seems to be doing wonders for me and my spirits, maybe it’s because i’m a defensive support build and not a “SMASH IT NOW!” build…
Idk what rangers that thief has been fighting, but i know i’ve crushed several roaming thieves beneath my boot in WvW, ESPECIALLY in 1v1s, they can hit hard sure…. if you’re naked and only have offensive stats…
O.o
Greatsword…
Spirits…
Those are the 2 worst things going for the ranger right now in TPvP.
If you ever play that or SPvP you will be at a notable disadvantage.
But, of course, most of all it comes down to whatever floats your boat.
:)
(edited by garethh.3518)
Every pet is bugged to some extent with ‘lick wounds’, the canines manage it half the time at best.
However, any thief prepared for my particular build can control and defeat me easily. Rangers aren’t good against thieves unless you catch them offguard like I do.
I’ve had many thieves tell me I run a spec that’s their hard counter.
And it is, short of thief-shortbow kiting for days.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAnYVnEVUXZcFaBBaZgo9ITSCTsH83RP6VYWFspC;TgAgyCpogR4jsoFIDPmLA
Fire trap falls out for chill trap (kiting in/around it destroys d/d thieves) or lightning reflexes (if you can’t/don’t want to swap elites) in a few cases.
Spirit of nature for RaO if you know they’re really good with CC.
The wolf’s fear ruins shadow refuge.
Good reflexes with headshot kills cleansing and healing and their attempt at stealth.
Crip/chill/imobs set up pet knockdowns and splitblade pretty well.
Basilisk venom is the only annoyance.
You can sack your pet with protect me to stop any dancing dagger spikes (courtesy of ‘protect me’) but you then are vulnerable for a basilisk venom spike.
Running RaO is advised if you are fighting someone who seriously knows what they are doing (top 3~%).
(edited by garethh.3518)
Rangers are fine at dealing with immobilize.
At least decently so.
Shortbow, one-handed sword, dagger all have on weapon evades that you can use while immobilized.
Yeup.
So even though they think they have you pinned, and go for that heavy spike… you just lol-evade… every 10~ seconds….
I actually have less trouble with imobs on the specs I run in this class than the few others I play.
For power specs, yeah they could use a lil help with dealing with them.
I’d replace beastmasters signets (and so make our undeniably mediocre signets work without a kittening grab-kitten wackjobbed, 3rd tier trait) for something like ‘break imob once every 15~ seconds if at full endurance’… but that’s just me.
(edited by garethh.3518)
After reading that line in the Reddit thread, I felt like someone kicked me swiftly between the legs.
I’ve always known Ranger’s were recognized as the weakest profession, but “to see it in lights” like this really hurts. I play as a kitten good Ranger, but I also realize I’m working ten times harder than every other class to be remotely competitive/threatening. It helps when I switch to my alts and roflstomp people without so much as twitching my little finger, but I love my Ranger and want to stick with the class!
That’s what happens when you don’t play the ‘in’ specs.
Ranger has REALLY good ones atm, but they are few, yet even when I half-as PvP with those I still tend to win the majority of deuls.
Oh and greatsword is never a good idea.
From a competitive standpoint.
Traps and/or axe/dagger tend to work far better and are generally far more useful (even though that doesn’t say much)
(edited by garethh.3518)
Its only going to get worse.
Atm phantasms are bugged so they can’t have retaliation and fury, fury is far better and buggingly overrides retaliation so heavy retal builds atm just aren’t common/very-viable.
Soon enough, after it’s fixed, it’ll only be much worse.
I’ve faught a few REALLY good condi mesmers who are just drooling over the thought of both boons…
(and quite frankly Im already having a hell of a time with them as is, and they even miss a few things (like daze-shattering to interrupt heals), my specs made for 1v1’ing and I’m only sitting at roughly a 30% win rate, which is worse than against pretty much any other spec I’ve faught)
I beat the vast majority in 1v1s.
I run the spirit elite, RaO doesn’t help unless the thief is running some crazy tripwire/basilisk venom spec.
The bump to dmg is marginal the stability is the only real perk of RaO
please remember that mesmers are actually the real problem in tpvp, while thieves may dominate spvp. at high levels of play, the sword/pistol/staff mesmer is absolutely brutal and needs serious tuning down. good thieves are balanced in tpvp, while mediocre/bad thieves need not apply.
Rangers, [good rangers] roflestomp power specced sword mesmers.
Rangers can evade during the immobilize and go invis when they are CC’d (30s internal CD, magic bullet is on a 25s CD).
Offensively rangers tend to throw out more conditions than a sword/pistol-staff mesmer can deal with, that and well placed traps or timed weapon swaps (sigil of geaomancy) eat phantasms (and still hit the mes a fair deal of the time).
For a class like mesmer where every good source of dmg is something you can point a finger at and either kill (phantasm) or evade (shatters/blurred frenzy/first volley of phantasm)… that sort of spec just makes landing good dmg (at very least in a 1v1) next to impossible for the mesmer.
The only reason I’d see to tonedown mesmers are because of their portals.
Pretty much every group runs a mesmer at VERY least for khylo, it’s nearly necessary.
Oh and being able to swap in and out utilities out of combat doesn’t help the matter in the slightest.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Rankings and dropping 3/4 of the SPvP servers for custom servers.
A bit more work but far better rewards.
I don’t see the PvP being notably different if it were just 5v5s in SPvP instead of 8v8s.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Barely anything (in all and every likelihood) short of bug fixes, exploit fixes and small number tweaks is going to happen much sooner than that.
My friend, at this point, those “barely anything” fixes would be GIGANTIC. We’ve been living with a game breaking block bug and bladetrail bug and stealth bug for a long long time.
They are hotfixing important things like Dye Drop Rates, so we understand that these other changes get put on the back-burner.
Barely anything [will be changed]… short of…
But yeah some of what they have been patching so far seems a bit silly.
Bugs
Honestly I rarely ever see the bladetrail bug, the stealth rendering is null to a lil observancy and good clicking, or even tab targeting in a number of cases (it shows a black ring under them right as they get out of stealth (and so can be targeted/attacked) it doesn’t show their actual toon but you can click right above it or tab target and voila… for those who have to wait to actually see the nice lil mesh and whatnot of the enemy themself to target the guy… dunno what to say) and I honestly don’t know what the block bug is.
So yeah from personal experience I wouldn’t call them game breaking, but even so bugs are extremely numerous for a released game on this sort of pay scale.
Anyways, the people a page back expressed far from that area of concern.
(edited by garethh.3518)
SPvP matching is balls.
It is a hastle (involving lots of luck) to find a good, somewhat lasting server and being rank 38~ causes ‘play now’ to throw me in empty ones 50~% of the time.
That or 8v8s…. which is horrible gameplay…
Cohesion doesn’t really exist allot between specs in pug play…
You have to typically specifically spec into it and spec to work with specific types of allies so it rarely happens which just makes it, for the majority of play, a solo as much kitten as you can fest… which sucks…
WAR’s 12v12s were a dozen times more entertaining and the actual PvP playstyle was setup half as well (if that).
Playing tournies.. as fun as it is fighting pugs 2/3 of the time… oh wait.. it isn’t…
No sort of matching short of pure random.
Woe is the guy who doesn’t want to run with a premade threw paid tournies all his GW2 life.
(edited by garethh.3518)
If you really have your hopes up for a fair deal of change…
Drop the game for half a year.
Seriously I’m not even joking, you will get yourself beat up and ultimately, completely, fed up with this game by putting your hopes on large changes this early…
It’ll take about another half a year for them to get the normal housekeeping of a new MMO all into check (along with a good idea of where the meta is verse where they want it to be) then really get some solid work done on the classes and SPvP system.
Barely anything (in all and every likelihood) short of bug fixes, exploit fixes and small number tweaks is going to happen much sooner than that.
(edited by garethh.3518)
I really hope not. I originally ran to S/D to get away from all the QQ. And While the weapon set is 10x more powerful then people realize, its still not nearly as bad as the backstab build. Tactical Strike is bugged atm anyway. I hit people in the front and still daze them consistantly. It also blinds and dazes when its only suppose to do one or the other. Fix those two bugs and we may have the first skill based thief build. Wouldn’t that be nice.
I’ve never had it daze and blind at the same time. However, the side is considered part of the back when it comes to dazing. It only blinds if you’re practically right in front of the target. One step to either side of your enemy and you will daze them. That’s how it is intended.
yea your right, i forgot i had the blind on stealth trait selected. My bad. But regardless the Front/Back hitboxes need some looking at, I’ll link a video once it’s uploaded to youtube. Its kinda rediculous.
Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLXn4jnu98c&feature=youtu.be
As you can see i’m closer to the front of the golem then the side, but its still classified as a backstab.
Wow, and I actually thought looking at them was a viable way to stop it…
Solution for all.
And what I actually thought was going to be introduced at launch…
Custom servers…
SPvP right now is garbage, you jump in random servers with random people and solo your way threw it (since short of high level play near any teamwork is nonexistant)… it gets rather boring rather fast. The game isn’t even made for 8v8s… yet that or empty servers is all the game tends to throw at, at least, me…
Honestly your post probably won’t go far, learning to play in smaller scale fights is a wonderful cushion to learning a new game but isn’t “necessary” so won’t really go anywhere.
Yes though I’d agree on one level, people should start out fighting 1v1s, 2v2s, exc. to get the game’s basics down then move up. Giving new players every class skill to learn, speccing to learn (half the abilities are just bad), combat in a game unlike any other to learn and chucking them into 8v8s (in a game balanced for smaller combat) all the while, is just kitten
Oh and regarding the transition between SPvP and tournies… it isn’t THAT big of a gap between what works in an 8v8 pug verse 5v5 pug match (since you are talking free tourny, it tends to be pug crazy).
Dueling is interesting, in allot of games I’ve actually sat in the main city and dueled random people for hours straight, tragically this game is just frustrating when trying to find duels. Some times you get that ‘play now’ -> a group with other rank 38~ people… the majority of time, I’m thrown in an empty or, on occasion, nearly full server and have to wait 10~ minutes to be able to click ‘play now’ again and try to get matched with people of my level or randomly guess out of the 50~ servers which has players of my skill level…
(I played WAR for 1 intense year before starting to consider the word ‘bored’ to describe what I felt like when playing it, then came back after a year or so and played for another enjoyable one. This game has a much better setup for PvP, yet I am already bored with it and it has only been 2~ months. F FS, Rift lasted longer than that…)
(edited by garethh.3518)
After the fix to stealth, sure in 1v1s bad players will get daze-locked… but SPvP rarely brings out 1v1s… which means that daze-lock setup thief will have a solid 3~ seconds to be completely vulnerable in between every daze.
That is a billion times more manageable than the insta-gib, stealthed while out of stealth kitten happening at the moment, and the QQ won’t be any more than that of bull’s charge 100-blades warriors.
S/D is a good setup, especially if played well, but that involves playing well… FoTM thief basilisk venom->1-shot spike players tend to be terrible… yet get kills on people who like to think they are not…
Entirely different situation.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Ideally to max dps, you would be using one as soon as you reach 1 bar of adrenaline, but PvP isn’t that simple.
CDs-All adrenaline abilities are on 10s CDs, some builds get adrenaline faster than 1 bar every 5-10 seconds so whether they want to or not, they will be using some abilities on the 2nd or 3rd tier.
Spiking-hitting a target for all your worth when you know he can’t stop it, that and coordinating with teammates to actually down the guy in one wave of attacks.
Getting to the third tier is 50% more dmg so will put quite a noticably larger dent in someone.
Longer immobilize-The immobilize gets a second longer for each tier more adrenaline. A 4s immobilize is allot better than a 2, even if that just involves interupting flurry right after you cast it. 4 seconds is enough time to stomp an enemy or rez an ally or get a few attacks off on another guy or hold someone off a BO while you uncap it.
I hope your talking about PvE though.
In PvP warrior condition dmg just isn’t really that playable.
Go for a ranger (traps) or thief (D/D caltrops) or necro (staff-scepter) or engi(bombs) or mesmer (staff) if you’re trying to PvP out some condition dmg.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Flurry goes up to 10 strikes at 2nd tier, 12 strikes at 3rd tier.
Just tested it not an hour ago.
(unless the tooltips are bugged and I was getting extremely ’un’lucky crit-bleed procs)
Take the +condition dmg (at least at lvl 80) and divide it by 20, that’s the bonus to bleed dmgs.
Take the +condition dmg (at least at lvl 80) and divide it by 4, that’s the bonus to burn dmgs.
(edited by garethh.3518)
The class is sooo close to a good condi spec too.
I honestly, after seeing tooltips was going to switch over from my ranger.
(until testing left a ton of bugs out of the specs favor…)
Flurry looked like it would hit like a mother*ing truck.
With all the +crit traits and whatnot, hitting 10 times at 90~% crit rate, procing a 5s bleed on a 30% of the crits and a 7s one on 60% would have been roughly 8~k total in shortish duration bleeds.
And that’s every 10~ seconds.
(for being left vulnerable for the 3~s cast and whatnot, I could live with that kind of return)
—bugged so doesn’t though—
Longbows fire spreadshot lists a 2s burn from each arrow, that would be 6s of burning or 3.6k in burn dmg on that 6s CD. That is all around a lil better than the ranger’s splitblade on axe mainhand
—bugged so doesn’t though—
The longbow’s spammable also hits twice every volley which make a higher hits/sec than the ranger shortbow, that combined whith how warriors get better procs from critting and more easily gotten fury… in the mists I was usually getting up to 7-8 bleed stacks from the crit procs on longbow alone (with fury up). The ranger spammable caps out at 6-8~ WITH FLANKING.
That and longbow was building adrenaline like a beast, the ‘adrenaline on crit’ trait along with it hitting twice and critting 60-80% of the time made 2-4 (on average 3.4) adrenaline a volley…
That with the SOLID immobilizing, less but better controlled cleansing, much better self healing and toughness, endure pain (WHICH BREAKS STUNS!! (unlike the ranger ‘protect me’)) and leaps threw that fire field… ugh it seemed like it’d be close to if not a lil better than the ranger at times. The ranger has its pet (which does solid physical dmg without any stats in power), much better evading, poisons, better but not so controlled of cleansing, both weapon sets have ranged spammables, protect me is on a 48s CD (at least in my setup).
But flurry can only procs one sigil of earth bleed a cast (so you lose 3~k bleed dmg a flurry, or 37% of its dmg in a crit heavy setup).
The longbows fire volley actually only throws out a 1s burn per arrow instead of 2 (half dmg).
That really hurts.
Those were the main sources of condi dmg I was going to run short of the longbow’s fire field…
The 5s CD weapon swap would have let me just throw them out pretty much on CD every time (to be pretty much constant burning, dodge or long imobs left and right and flurry just coming home with a truck of bleed stacks, that combined with allright spammable dmg and a decent mix of utility would have been a solid spec.)
Because of all that, critting with the sword for condition dmg is near worthless since flurry doesn’t benifit and the spammable is not only melee but doesn’t attack notably fast, but the thing is, longbow needs crit to be a decent condition weapon… and critting was the builds main source of addrenaline…
That’s what annoys me to no end.
So close, I’ll post the build anyways it would have been decently high tourny grade if everything worked…

Swapping out bolas depending on encounter
(for a stunbreak against spike thieves.
balanced stance for group fights since I probly can’t save the elite signet for stability-stomps all the time, probly have to use it to full cleanse and throw up the fury/swiftness buffs more than not.
Fear me against those specs you have to interrupt (to stop heals or spikes or stealth rezes/stomps))
I was actually getting a bit ditsy before I tested stuff, flurrying people in their side (so they couldn’t attack back) was going to be hellsa fun.
Kiters who normally are a joke to get flanking on would be a joke to pull it off on, other people you could just shield bash then sidestep out of the frontal arc before flurrying, or longbow immob or bolas into the same deal.
It would have been BRILLIANT in group fights with all the long duration immobilizes, solid dmg, high toughness/invulns/cleanses/healing (healing surge goes FOR HALF your health!!!! and gives 1 bar of adrenaline, LOL) too.
If you want to make something out of the broken sigils and whatnot atm, go for geomancy, with weapon swaps being every 5s you can get an aoe out 3stacks of 11~s bleed every 5~s which is solid condi dmg in and of itself.
Then you can stick with something critty like my build or go for that rifle/sword-shield power/condi spec. A bit more offensive but loses a fair deal of toughness and whatnot.

If in your title by ‘dmg’ you mean ‘projectile speed’.
Then yeah that’d do wonders.
The weapon could use a lil buff to dmg still too though.
Warriors are overal bad with conditions.
To put it in perspective, I haven’t seen a single condition dmg warrior using a rifle.
The class/weapon isn’t made for it.
Having a decent condition on a spammable in a class with overall otherwise bad condition dmg isn’t actually a great thing. They still are terrible at applying and making use of conditions.
Rangers aren’t.
Rangers have good condi utilities and other abilities on shortbow and other weapons besides shortbow unlike warrior.
A spec is more than just a spammable on a weapon.
Can’t really just bluntly compare the 2, I’m on the fence but I’d still say I’d rather have shortbow than rifle on the ranger class right now (faster attack speed, head shot, poison volley, the leap back-evade)

He’s just angry that his favourite spec is not as good as he thought it was.
Oh really now?
Last I checked I was rolling people with my ranger left and right and was giving advice since some weapons for rangers are complete traps (the bad kind) that only take your spec and so you downhill…
But pff, what do I know about my intentions…
><
Sorry garethh how is this political?
This is no political debate
I just listed down both weapons 2nd skills
[which is] forgetting the best part of the weapon.
I feel really odd that I can answer your entire post about my post… with my post…
Anyways, running torch or dagger tends to be far better than warhorn for condition builds since warhorn does little to nothing in combat (when it comes to a condition spec).
Swiftness is nice, but you can just swap to it out of combat for the buff.
Carrion/rabid are the most common (debatably best) amulets I see for condi specs in PvP.
In PvE it could be a lil different.

What`s your glory rank , judging by your Peacemaker greatsword i`d say your new to the pvp game. Practice your mesmer some more.
Yes, once you get better theif stops doing less dmg….
OP: I have seen that screen too many times in the past week. Only solution I have for you is to do what everyone else and their mother is doing: Bunker up!
Mesmer?
Your complaining and you play a mesmer???
You can shatter for distortion… that’s basically an out of spike free card built into your class…
Sword mainhand (that EEVERYONE is running) is another free 2s worth… if you have staff its a free stunbreak and teleport, every spec has phantasms that do solid dmg so all you really have to do is survive… maybe if he catches you with your pants down it can hurt but short of that… you are a mesmer for christs sakes.
lol.
It’s incredible how people can defend something like that. In no way a character should be able to dump 20k damage in 1.5s (that’s 13.3k dps) while being relatively safe (since you just shadowstep with steal to do it….).
Only thing i seriously hate is mug applying venoms.
If it didn’t create this instant (and so unstoppable) stun break or die situation (mug->C&D->backstab for 20~k dmg) I’d be cool with it…
But it is…
Bull’s rush can be dodged, warriors can be kited, thieves…
So stupid.
I dislike backstab being such a truck of an attack that you can’t dodge, I dislike the #2 skill being a spammable leap + high dmg. But I can live with it, they can be coped with if you really really try. But the instagib spike…
The bleeds are easy to land due the the very forgiving attack angle that is considered flanking.
Plus, having to work a LITTLE bit on positioning is what keeps the shortbow auto-attack from becoming too monotonous for me.
The weapon is its spammable (everything else is just occasional situational stuff) so yeah the spammable being anything but blindly spammable is nice, at least imo.
They should instead increase the bleed duration.
Its 3s on a short cast.
That is good.
lol
Warhorn grants fury, might, and swiftness to yourself and nearby allies.
Torch is a close range AOE weapon that set a fire around you, burning foes.
That’s like saying the warhorn just summons a flock of birds to peck at people.
You are clearly and pointedly forgetting the best part of the weapon.
The torch toss that burns for 6~ seconds at a 900 range.
This is no political debate, there is no winning or losing so no need to twist facts.
Warhorn is just mediocre.
Fury is nice, too bad power specs are bad.
1 stack of might means nothing.
Swiftness is nice, but not worth an offhander.
The bird-pecking ability is on a long’ish CD and does non-condition dmg.
Dagger, now that’s competitive.
(edited by garethh.3518)
No.
L2P, a requirement is not a punishment.
Tagging a requirement on a low attack speed/bleed duration auto-attack with no redeeming features is a punishment.
The shortbow isn’t that.
Not being the best condition weapon in the game hands down is not a problem.
(edited by garethh.3518)
I still find it ironic that they pointedly called the class a thief not an assassin because, as they said, this game isn’t like others and this class is its own special thing and this game’s combat is about battle of wits and whatnot… yet that entire concept was thrown out the door as soon as launch came somewhat near and the class was turned into a full on assassin anyways…
Oh Anet…
Such the joker…
You’re such a bucket of kicks…
Metaphorically.
But it still hurts.
><
(edited by garethh.3518)
99% is a lie, unless you mean ‘while pugging’ well than yeah, 80% of people don’t know how to fight well and 80~% are running bad specs or bad specs for 1v1s… which leaves roughly a 2/3 win ratio.
I’d believe that.
backstab thieves.
Anyone who lands/chains any solid CC.
Most necro specs.
One mesmer spec.
Engi’s with the ‘cant be hurt by condis under 25%’.
Well specced tank eles.
GG.
You have enough condi’s to eat threw near any cleansing but at a gaping price.
Never been a fan of entangle. For the long CD (not saying its bad, but for THAT CD, ugh) it doesn’t tends to hold its weight in a number of fights (stealth, teleports, dodging, on ability evades, high dps melee all are straight up counters to it)
(edited by garethh.3518)
It’s programmatically possible to make it so that observers see solid colors for both teams, while the players themselves have a toggle to either see solid colors or custom dyes.
Everybody wins.
Just quoting this again because there is no reason this should not be a feature in this game. If the devs really listen to the players, let them see this 100 times a day.
Yesss.
That would be beautiful.
^^^^give warriors 5-6 seconds of fear, give necromancers (who’s class defining cc is fear) 2 1 second fears on a 20 and 40 second cooldown. GG
90s CD and its relatively close range.
Fear is also a condition so can be cleansed.
And Varyag, its 3~s normally at most, so the +30% from the first tree and another possible 15-30~ from runes would be roughly 5s of fear.

If one traitline gave you everything you wanted in your spec there wouldn’t be much diversity now would there?
This is why we can’t make a good build. In GW1 traps comes under wilderness not expertise (skirmish) trait line. They really need to sort us out big time.
No one wants that. What they and I want are the specific trait skills to be in their proper trait lines they’re meant for. Not randomly thrown into random trait lines for the hell of it or because they ran outta time.
Last I checked intentions didn’t make gameplay but actual results.
The devs could have been attempting to sabatouge the game, but if they came up with a solid trait system, I could care less.
The traitlines each have a purpose, traps are our strongest utility conditions, so they are in a tree that doesn’t buff condition dmg/duration.
If you want the best dmg and duration on your conditions you don’t also get the best condition output skills.
An attempt at balance and so diversity.
They just don’t want to have to change up their current build, so they’re throwing out ham-fisted logic.
Why is it so?
I could have answered his question, but I’m curious since you have the ability to already know my answer and know it is silly, why is it so?
If the defensive skills in Wilderness Survival aren’t good, then I would lose nothing by losing them in exchange for having traps in the +condi dmg and toughness line, so how does what you’re saying even make sense?
(edited by garethh.3518)
Oh… so people just can’t dislike cosmetics in games with combat…
That’s your take on it…
We should just be there for the fights alone…
It’s cool that you don’t mind it, different people have different takes on things, but yeah, to put it simply since you don’t seem to (possibly want to) understand, people tend to like to like their character. Customizing the toon’s appearance is the easiest way to it. It gives you a better attachment to the game, want to play it, feel good while doing so, exc.
For me actually having a toon I’m proud of, like “that’s my bad*ss looking ranger thats pulling off those combo’s, remember it”, it makes gameplay allot more enjoyable. If you need a referance, buying a car or first house, half of it is finding something you’d be proud or happy to be seen with/in (at least in your price range).
This is the only game I’ve played with customizable gear and whatnot, yet just washes it at the last moment before you get to show it off.
To put it in perspective, its not a complete make or break deal, I don’t play the game only to look gravy, its just a really nice addition to a game, one that Anet setup in full, yet cuts out at the last moment (which is just annoying)
(edited by garethh.3518)
Yeah man totally that means they can’t use their stun breaks either then they are out of endurance.
Combats not that simple.
learn to play. a good player of ANY class can take out a thief EASY. if you die in 1 sec you are doing something wrong.
and yes you can shoot 9.5k hit with rifle warrior from far away..
tl;dr: l2p
You haven’t faught any good thieves.
Bad thieves are jokes to kill, bad anythings are easy to kill… good theives… the ones that roam and know when to spike are a whole nother matter…
