DT and Phoenix both have decently big AoE so it is not that easy to dodge them in SPvP.

You’re joking, right?
If you hit a DT on someone that wasn’t CC’d it means it was the first time they EVER played against a scepter ele.
It’s hard to hit the brainless PvE enemies with DT except in melee range (because they won’t move), so why would you think it could ever hit a player without CC?

It just blows my mind that such a major change was made this far after launch.

You realize it’s not that major a change, especially compared to what they did in GW1.
4.5 years after the launch of Nightfall they completely overhauled the Dervish class.
Then, 7 years after the launch of Prophecies, they changed Exhaustion into Overcast and rewrote half of the Elementalist spells to involve it to varying degrees, including benefiting from what was previously exclusively a negative effect.

This is NOTHING compared to either of those.

The commander icon should only be visible to the squad members as only the squad members are affected by the commander and the only thing the commander can really do is add special waypoints to the map for his/her squad that only the squad members can see.

Done.

You realize that there’s far more value in a commander icon in WvW than just what it affords squads.
Especially since the icon is kind of what gets people to join a squad in the first place.

It’s a possibility; But if you get booted out of WvW due to a reset, wouldn’t you end up in front of the WvW portals and not in the northern trade section of LA? That’s assuming the reset is very recent.

Also, I believe the scores reset about 5 hours ago. I highly doubt WvW cue times are five hours long assuming these Commanders are waiting for a WvW cue to pop up. I think the longest cue time I got was about an hour, maybe two.

At the time of this posting, I see six Commanders in this overflow.

Oh. I had assumed you took the screenshot earlier today.

All the autos are awful for DD, for starters. Fire is only good for burning, water and air are awful, and earth is for bleeding.
Then, Dragon’s Tooth can’t even hit PvE enemies half the time because it’s so slow, similar story with Phoenix, Shatterstone isn’t even good enough to bother dodging if you somehow can’t get out of the AoE before it blows up (and was drastically nerfed since the beta when it was ALMOST worth using, for reasons unknown), Lightning Strike and Blinding Flash aren’t good enough to make up for the pathetic autoattack, and then Rock Barrier is a defensive skill (and an extremely weak one at that) on a ranged weapon, and Hurl is DD on a CD attunement, whose only real value is a 5x 100% Projectile finisher.

So, in short, DD is awful except for extremely missable fire attacks (while the auto is CD), Water and Air are completely worthless, and Earth’s defensive but only just barely.

It takes about 15ish minutes to run from one side of tyria to the other, from east to west. Compared to other mmo’s where taking a flight path from one area of the world to the other side can take half an hour+ I think it’s quite reasonable.

Gonna have to call BS on that one. I suppose if there were no mobs it might be possible and it was somehow a straight line without any obstacles like zone walls or impassable mountains, etc.

Though it is complete BS, arguably he’s correct, in that you can go to mists, LA, then zone to any capital you want to access almost all areas easily (remember DR to get to Ebonhawke) very quickly, for free.

Kurzick/Luxon takes 10,000,000 faction total to achieve.

Good call I guess – Yet the last two tiers of kurz/lux faction have absolutely ZERO relevance to skills/PvE performance.

(All tiers have zero relevance to PvP for those who never played GW)

You mean the last 6, since all the skills cap out at rank 6, not 10 or 12.
Rank 6 costs 1,200,000 as opposed to the 10,000,000 of rank 12.

Actually, that’s horizontal progression, meaning you get better by being better rather than having higher stats.

The number of skill points you had access to depended only on how long you played, and a wide variety of skills was critical to playing. It did not matter how good you were, if you didn’t have the needed skills you were not going to get invited to or be able to complete Speed Clears.

if you mean it in reference to how well you can play your 8 skills.

“how well” meaning player skill.
And getting non-elite skills was hardly difficult. 1000 Balthazar faction (easy to get), 1p (not that much money),1sp (always plentiful) and access to any skill trainer of the campaign the skill belongs to (which requires nothing more than your character reaching the continent) and you can get any non-elite in the game.

The difference is that GW1 never added more powerful equipment post-launch.
There were some runes added, but most of them were crap (like those majors that reduced condition duration), and Vitae/Attunements which were mainly just filler for slots you didn’t have a rune in, but none that were inarguably stronger.
Vertical progression beyond what it had at launch being added to the game is what people have a problem with.

I agree, this is what I have a problem with, not a huge problem, it just makes me not want to upgrade until I can get the very best. I liked just getting max gear and then tweaking my play-style to get the best performance of my build.

Getting max gear in GW1 took a week at most, even with title grinding.

However, you could say that GW1 had vertical progression if you mean it in reference to how well you can play your 8 skills. I loved my ele for bond/infusing because you had to be ultra conscience about having all your maintainable enchantments up and make sure you energy bar was filled. Your energy bar was more or less the life-force of the group, if it went to zero, people started dying.

Actually, that’s horizontal progression, meaning you get better by being better rather than having higher stats.

I was wondering if it might be like the doppelganger in the Augury Rock mission of GW1 – actually literally based on your own character. That would make it “personal” and would explain how any of us would recognize the person no matter which story branches we chose.

This would have to assume that everyone playing GW2 has also played GW1. Which we know is not the case.

No, I said like that. Not the very same creature.

GW1 Spoiler: It couldn't be the same creature because that doppelganger gets defeated at Augury Rock.

I just meant that they may be planning to use the same sort of mirroring to create a personalized antagonist as they did then. No prior knowledge necessary because the part you’d be meant to recognize is that it’s a version of yourself.

Well, you already do that in the Asura personal story if your first invention was the Infinity Ball.

It probably won’t be for long once knowledge of this becomes common.

Considering how much stock there is I rather doubt it will rise much. There’s half a million of them in the 9c-11c range. That alone is enough for 4500 people. Not to mention the stocks people already have, and the large number who will just craft normally and get it. Someone simply leveling anything other than cooking 0-400 will craft enough masterworks to get their monthly.

Like the sniper rifles. Yeah, they do a ton of damage, but without leading they’re useless against moving enemies, and the things they hit stay out of combat mode and start regenerating the damage you just did extremely fast, which is especially bad due to the lack of target leading, since if you miss 1 shot your first hit is already regenerated.

It is really disheartening hearing that this is not even being looked into.

You’re at a job, where you work maintenance for most of the machinery in a large factory. I mean couple of city blocks big. Your boss comes up to you on the first day of the week and hands you a list of twenty items which need to be fixed that week in order for you to get paid. You’re at the fifth thing on the list when someone who works in the department you’re currently in tells you there’s a problem with a valve.

“Is it not working?”
“No, it’s just acting like it’s not open all the way even though it’s not turning open any further.”
“I’ll look at it when I have time.”

Of course, you still have fifteen things on the list, or no paycheck. Since it’s actually not outright stopped it’s lower on priority. So you move on and the next day you’re stopped by the same person from yesterday.

“Hey, you said you’d look at that valve.”
“I didn’t get around to it, I have these other things to do.”
“Whatever, you just don’t care. Lazy bum, why do you even get hired?”

Tell me what motivation you have to actually go out of your way to look into that valve now.

Your analogy doesn’t work right because the devs made the valve that doesn’t work right. Which means it would be added to the list of things that needed to be done to get paid, because it is their fault it isn’t working right.

If you hate it so much then don’t play, if you want them to fix it sooner support them through gem store

No.
First of all, they already make plenty of money off of box sales alone. Then, they’re also making kittenloads of money off of the gem store as it is now.
And finally, why should consumers pay them more money to fix something that is so broken it never should have made it into the game in the first place, especially since the problem was pointed out in the various beta events by the people that paid them money beforehand?
Physical goods, like cars, tend to come with warranties, where they will, for no charge, replace things that were broken due to defect. Why should consumers pay them more money, on top of what was already paid for a supposedly finished game, in order to fix a mistake they made before release?

Skills that need to be changed...

in Engineer

Posted by: gimmethegepgun.1284

gimmethegepgun.1284

The randomized skills are supposed to be random… it’s like saying you don’t want weapon kits to have their own skills because it changes the weapon bar too much.

Just because something’s working as intended doesn’t mean that the idea behind it is terrible.
If there was a skill that shot yourself and did absolutely nothing else, but that was the intent of the skill, that would be awful because it’s terrible, even though it does exactly what it’s supposed to.

Random skills are awful, particularly when the randomness causes COMPLETELY different things to happen, because the user can’t rely on it to do what he needs.
Look at Toss Elixir B. Either it drops swiftness (bad in combat, but the only thing you want it to do out of combat), retaliation (useful in combat, worthless out), fury (useful in, useless out), or ONE stack of might (useless). It has a 75% chance of being worthless out of combat, and a 50% chance of being nearly worthless in combat.

Or to look at another profession, Winds of Chaos on Mesmer Staff. It can apply bleeding (damage is good), burning (damage is good), or one stack of vulnerability (pathetic damage improvement even in a group because of its slow speed and unreliability, and even worse for the Mesmer since it doesn’t even affect condition damage)

Starting equipment can’t be acquired on the same character if it’s destroyed or sold.
However, there is a trick where you can make a new character with it, transmute it onto a WHITE item, and then it will be account bound, so you can give it to the character you want it on and transmute it for stats.
This also allows you to put starter items on classes that can’t get it normally, like a necro headpiece on a mesmer.

Why not just let additional conditions over the 25 limit add to the Condition Damage used to calculate the damage?

Take bleeding for example. Rather than adding brand new stacks, you would simply be changing the damage of the current bleeds by adjusting the Condition Damage calculation.

So bleeds doing 100 damage at 25 stacks would do 120 damage if another person with the exact same stats added 5 bleeds.

It would essentially act as Might for a specific condition for the duration of the additional stacks over 25.

Honestly that would probably make it even worse, particularly due to the difference in durations between the bleeds.
The simplest fix that wouldn’t be TOO drastic an issue most of the time would be to make it so that bleeds (and I guess poison and burning time too) that are discarded due to reaching the stack limit (or duration limit for burn/poison) do all of their remaining damage at once.

Priory. A new discovery of some sort, Your the head leading the troops but problems arise and you uncover something that is evil/the Dredge want/conflicts with another order.

Oor. With Salad dude finishing his wild hunt. It’s up to you and the Pact to clean up the mess and finish off the rest of the undead and Dragons

Ooh, this I like.
Though it doesn’t quite work with Blood Legion since that involves crushing your old warband leader, which in this case would be you.
Or with Synergetics since your krewe leader was the traitor.
Or Norn because they’re all solitary kittens which will ultimately be their undoing.

Since I’m tired of posting in this thread, I’ll leave with this:
What’s the very first thing you consider once you decide to add a ranged weapon to a game? “Do we put this on the ranged physical attacker class?”
The very first thing they would have done when they decided that rifles and pistols would be in the game was determine whether or not the Ranger should use them.
Considering there’s no meaningful difference in looks between longbow and shortbow, they could have just gone with “bow”, given it to Warrior, Thief, and Ranger, and then given the Ranger the rifle in place of what it currently uses for one of the two bows and there would be no difference in current gameplay, except that Ranger would have a rifle.
The only real reason why they did it the way they did is that they felt that the rifle did not belong on the Ranger.

Trying to convince them to break their own lore, to do something that they explicitly decided not to do, is the same as all the people who try to get them to add mounts.

And a constructive suggestion for those who want rifle for pet synergy: considering the history of GW1, the much more likely route would be giving the Ranger a hammer for a pet build, due to the popularity of the Bunny Thumper builds in GW1.

Dude.

My point is you don’t have to “turn left to go right”. You could build it so that you can “turn right to go right”.

Why build a car that turns left when you steer right?

The skill is designed to roll you back. If you changed the skill into a target based roll, it would be much more difficult to roll back, as you would have to both turn and target first. Having a reliable roll back is also much better for situations where you are immobilized or otherwise unable to turn. And again, the times when you want to go left or right with the skill is next to zero, and turning your camera is already easy. So I really don’t see any reason to change it.

They could have designed it to make you roll in whatever direction you’re moving, like a regular dodge roll. Then, if you don’t want to leave you don’t have to, but if you want to get out of there you can use it backwards like you would a dodge roll and get the current effect.

I think that the Claw of Jormag probably has a lot of arteries to cut.

I think it has exactly as many major arteries as a rock made of ice. I don’t think it bleeds blood, which is weird when you think about it. I can “bleed” an Earth Elemental somehow. (Oil? Dirt? What the heck is bleeding? And HOW CAN I POISON IT?!).

Conditions are so abstract in this game. Remember when you couldn’t bleed/poison undead or elementals?

Fine, let me change my answer:
I think that a giant has a lot of arteries to cut. And a lot of blood to bleed.

And yes I remember that, which is also why I’m glad they had enough sense to at least allow most things to be affected by the short list of conditions they put in, since they apparently realized how it would be even MORE broken for condition builds to have random enemies be immune to your conditions (though not entirely, since Destroyers and Embers are still immune to burning which completely kittens a condition spec guardian or to a lesser extent a condition elementalist).

Besides, if you get kits to match your legendary weapons, what’s to stop the elementalists from asking for legendaries that change to match their attunement, or mesmers to get phantasms that match their legendary, or rangers to ask for pet utility skills to get special effects because they’ve got a legendary?

I’m not sure if this is deliberate or a bug, but from testing it appears that Vigor and Adrenal Implant do not stack, or the regeneration rate is hitting a cap of some kind.

Adrenal Implant reduces the time it takes to regenerate 1 bar of endurance from approximately 10.2 to 6.7 seconds

Vigor reduces the time from 10.2 to 5.47 seconds.

I measured vigor and adrenal implant together and got approximately the same result. My stopwatch method isn’t perfect, but after repeated tests I believe if there is a difference in regen time it is less than 0.2 of a second. In essence, if you have vigor adrenal implant appears to be a waste of a trait slot.

Working as intended. The highest bonus is taken and the rest are ignored.
