- i also went and checked lightning aura swiftness duration shortly after posting; my speculation was incorrect… seems like an anomaly/bug though

Seems sensible to me. The one that’s in air (the swiftness and crit kitten that it is) gives more swiftness and fury than any other aura.

Personally, I have no problem with how it is now, and I think majority of posters in this thread are just the usual MMO garbage that show up in every new game, complain for months, and move on to the next big thing as soon as it comes out so they can complain about that, all while boasting about how they’ve played since beta as if that meant a thing anymore.

Luckily ANet seems to see them for what they are as well (they’re not exactly new to this) and tunes them out accordingly.

Actually, the majority of posters in this thread are GW1 veterans, who for some strange reason expected ANet to make a game that used one of the most important core principles of GW1, the utter lack of the treadmill.
Somehow, tuning out the people who promoted your game for you, preordered early, helped in the betas, etc, doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Zephers boon works differently for different auras. Lighting aura gives double buff durations.

I know. That is taken into account with what I said. Other auras get 5s, Shocking Aura gets 10s.

Hardcore types aren’t getting the grind they wanted? Are you advocating more grind for the hardcore types?

No. The grind they added wasn’t enough for the hardcores (read: it’s not infinite, thus the locusts are not satisfied, ever), thus they aren’t satisfied.
And then the mere existence of the higher tier added after launch is enough to make anyone worried about the treadmill, thus HP advocates aren’t satisfied either.
So basically by adding it they kitten off their loyal fans and didn’t even come close to giving the locusts they were catering to enough to make them stay.

What about loyal fans like myself, who are somewhere in the grey area between those apparently over-arching Hardcore vs. Casual groups everyone is straw manning around here. I’m not hardcore enough to hit the top, but not casual enough to complain about things that take effort.

My point being there’s more to the player base than the extremes being used in example here.

If 2 courses of action are available, and a group of those affected doesn’t care either way, they are pointless to consider, since it doesn’t affect them.
Thus, you consider more to the extremes, where the course you take actually changes opinions.

That’s not how a bell curve works, the people in the middle represent a much larger portion of the player base than both extremes combined. To say these changes don’t affect the majority of the playerbase is flat out false.

Yes, the middle of the bell curve has far more people in it. But when those people do not care whether or not you make a certain change, then why would you consider the effects on them? It doesn’t matter to them.
So, you note their opinion that they don’t care, and then proceed to deal with the people who do.

Whether it matters to the middle or not is irrelevant, catering to vocal minorities on either side of the bell curve affects all players, and should be handled with caution.

Disregarding the middle of the road to appease one side or another is a bad idea.

Disregarding the middle of the road is exactly what you do when the middle of the road does not even have an opinion on what you’re doing.
The only thing you actually do with those who don’t care in mind is trying to MAKE them care.

You don’t need ANY boon duration to get permanent swiftness with D/D, nor do you need to swap attunements.
Shocking Aura (with Zephyr’s Boon) gives 10s on 25s recharge, GoEH gives 10s on 25s, Updraft gives 10s on 40s. Add those up and you have 105% uptime. With GoEH’s cast time of 1.5s, you still have 102% uptime.
No Boon Duration or attunement swaps needed, just 10 in Air for ZB.

So what do you want? More speed out of combat? Temporal Curtain lasts for 12 seconds whereas Symbol of Swiftness lasts for only 9 1/2 seconds. And again try using GS leap out of combat on a Guardian. As I stated above by the time you click the skill and it activates you at the most shave a 1/2 second off of what it would take to run that distance at normal speed. and then you have a 12 second cd. As well GS leap is highly dependant on the orientation of your character at teh time you activate it. Try jumping in a straight line using GS leap, it is difficult to do UNLESS you have a target.

Guardian has several utilities (notably Retreat) that will grant Swiftness and have a somewhat reasonable uptime on it, in addition to SoS, while Mesmer only has Temporal Curtain and the joke that is Signet of Inspiration.
And I did use GS leap, it’s significantly faster than standard runspeed. Figure it takes maybe 1 second to complete the leap, a distance of 600, which takes 2 seconds to traverse.
And jumping in a straight line with it is about as difficult as running in a straight line. You know, pointing the camera in a direction and pressing a button.
And don’t compare the actual time of Curtain with the time of SoS, because they have different recharges. Yeah, Curtain gives 12s Swiftness and SoS gives 8s, but Curtain has a 25s recharge while SoS has a 15s recharge. Which in fact gives SoS a slightly better uptime.

Quite frankly, compared to Mesmer, Guardian is VERY fast out of combat.
So yes, I think Mesmer should get better travel speed. Making SoI give 25% movespeed out of combat, or just making it give Swiftness every time when not in combat, would be great.

No you wasn’t wrong about GJ, all you have to do is target something in the distance and use it and it will cover the distance trying to get to it even if it is out of range. Same can be said about the 600 sword blink guardians have. While I don’t have a lvl 80 guardian I do have one at 77, so I am not a complete idiot.

Well, the problem with that is that the effect of either skill will cause you to enter combat, which is bad for traveling.

A Mesmer has these options available.

Blink which is a teleport skill
Compounding Celerity which grants a speed increase for each active illusion
Phase retreat which allows you to teleport 1200 units away
Temporal Curtain which grants 33% increase for 12 seconds.

You clearly do not actually know what you’re talking about.
Guardian has Judge’s Intervention, a ground target teleport as well.
Compounding Celerity is worthless for out of combat movement speed because it can only work in combat because illusions require combat.
Phase retreat does not function as you state, and is only usable in combat anyway.

Not only does Guardian have far easier access to long swiftness durations, they also have a leap on the greatsword that can actually be used out of combat (unlike the leap on Mesmer’s sword).

Before you accuse someone of not knowing what they are talking about perhaps you should insure that you do. Judges Intervention HAS to have a target otherwise it goes off where you stand. And using Leap as a GS skill is totally useless to cover ground quickly unless you are in combat as by the time it activates you could easily cover that much ground at a normal run.

Fine, I was wrong about JI.
But using the GS Leap PLAINLY moves faster than regular movement speed out of combat.
And I still stand by you not knowing what you’re talking about if you brought up Compounding Celerity. That’s a misunderstanding on a fundamental level about Mesmer, since everyone knows illusions can only be active in combat.

Why does ascended armor need better stats?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Because it’s not just agony that gets harder at higher fractals, all damage and resistances scale up as you get higher level. So that small stat boosts really help.
And treadmill, sort of.
Let’s be honest guys, it’s really NOT hard to get ascended gear. I geared out 2 characters with rings and backpacks in just two weeks of doing nothing but the daily.

Who cares if their damage and resistances go up as the level goes up? THAT’S THE POINT. The point is for it to get harder. And then you add equipment with better stats so you’re stronger, negating the entire point of it, while making the rest of the content in the game easier.

They put in the higher stats to try to appeal to the locusts, who can never be appeased, and threw the loyal GW1 veterans overboard in the process. Simple as that.

I expect to get flamed for this but....

Karma jugs, and Laurels character bound...

gimmethegepgun.1284

If it was per-character, then the system would effectively force you to play on ALL of your characters (and punish those with less slots who intend on getting more in the future). It would be extremely unfriendly to alt users because alts are made so you can play what you feel like doing, but if it was all character-bound then you’d basically be forced to play all of them, whether or not you feel like playing that class at the time.

So you then you would not mind Karma should have been account bound and only gain X amount of Karma each day, and if it took 3+ years to gear up 5 characters despite how much time and effort you put into the game?

But because it takes so long to gear up your alts, you are then forced to play your most powerful character as to not gimp the rest of your party, even though you would rather play a different but weaker character. If you are able to gear up all your alts at the same time, you then have a lot more choices on what character you want to play without gimping yourself.

Is karma needed in order to keep a character at BiS? No. Are most of the things bought with karma account bound? Yes. Therefore, you can play on any char you want for the karma and still get the same effect.
If the character-bound currency was for BiS equipment, then in order to keep your alts equipped you would be forced to play all of them, all the time, lest they fall behind.

And if you had to play all your characters to get them the currency needed for BiS then you’d be FORCED to gimp yourself in order to do so, rather than being able to do it on a stronger character if you so choose.

Though the BiS problem has more to do with the Ascended tier than anything else, honestly.

Being REQUIRED to play your alts in order to get them geared is extremely unfriendly to alt users. Just like, say, preventing someone from giving money or items to their alts from their main would be very unfriendly to alt users by forcing them to play their alts to make them keep up, even though alts are all about having choice.

gimmethegepgun.1284

Are you sure about stacked effect under cripple? Never been aware of that.

And It depend of your style, but other then Elixir build, I find myself switching kit every 2-3 sec. Add to this the speed buff from medic kit #5, and you have perma swiftness during fight.

Not sure being a bit faster when crippled is worth the trait.

I would personally take 3 sec of protection on critical hit. This skill is really good again burst class, and only on a 20 second ICD.

Well, the issue with relying on Speedy Kits for Swiftness in combat is that its duration is the same as its ICD, and so without a decent amount of Boon Duration or perfect timing you’ll occasionally get dropped down to regular speed, which has the potential to end badly, while Power Shoes guarantees you a good bonus all the time in combat.
Point is, Power Shoes isn’t quite outclassed by Speedy Kits because of its limitations. And vice versa.

Speedy kit vs kit refinement

in Engineer

Power Shoes is still useful since Speedy Kits pretty much requires constant kit switching to retain the Swiftness, which can be problematic in combat, but Power Shoes will keep working all the time in combat.
Plus they DO stack in that the cap is after all the effects are taken into account, meaning that the 2 combined effectively eliminate Cripple, which is certainly nice.

Since Conquest heavily rewards the ability to sit in one spot and not die, no matter what you do, people will find a way to make bunkers that can do that. The only thing that will truly make them die out is putting modes into rotation that don’t reward focusing solely on survival.

Let me put it in a simple way that maybe everyone can understand. A bad player will always be a bad player, MF or not. A skilled player will always be a skilled player whether they are wearing MF or not. Most power base builds work well with MF armor/noble rune. Also, our secret “hot blooded” elite, allows us to do more damage in more risky environments yet come out unscathed. It’s all about morale.

And let me put it to you another way:
A Berserker’s user will do more damage than if they were using Explorer’s, whether they’re skilled or not.
And unlike every other stat combination, it doesn’t give anything valuable in combat in return for the reduced damage, and what it does give doesn’t even give a bonus to the group, unlike the damage it replaces.

So it is fair to make people get less loot because they should be carrying you through the dungeon faster? You assume that a full zerk zerg dungeon is the way to go? The whole point of gw2 is that there is no meta, none of this elitist crap and I have to say they are on the right track, they nearly have it. As far as you are concerned unless the player is in zerk he is not helping you… sounds a bit selfish to me.

No one is saying that zerk is better than everything and all other armors can go kitten themselves.
Every other stat combination is a sidegrade, meaning they do different things, which are not comparable as a whole to each other, because they can be better or worse depending on the situation. However, Explorer’s is, no matter how you look at it, worse in combat than Berserker’s, which makes it an inarguable downgrade.
That also applies to Traveler’s compared to Rampager’s or Carrion.

Which is about the only thing it has going for it.

So I only just realized...

Yeah, the wiki has basically said all of these already :P
And they also have a good (daresay, better) name for Elixir S: Elixir Stomp.

I think everyone’s forgetting about another one of NCSoft’s creations that handled this fairly well: City of Heroes.
Terrain could be (and quite often was) used to help in fights against enemies. And yet despite the fact that the great majority of the players could fly, nearly every mob could still be somewhat useful if you were out of their reach, because all of them had a ranged attack they could use for just such an occasion, even if they’re a melee mob (mostly “pick something up and throw it”)

Let us change DAILY ACHIEVEMENT reset times

They use to reset every 24 hours from completion, but I like the Set time. Also they all reset at 4pm PST no matter what server or region you are on.

I feel your pain OP but here is the jist, change the time to something else and someone else will complain about that time. Just remember Daily’s reset at 4pm PST

… Why would someone complain about what time it resets if they got to pick the time it resets?

But, this is an international game so unless you had a personalised reset time what is convienient for one won’t be for another.

That is, in fact, what he is suggesting.
