I like the overall theme of the story. The sci-fi Asura, the steampunky engineers etc, Roman/Klingon Charr warmachine, organic tree-hugging tree-Elves, barbarians from frozen lands, attempt at the fantasy-of-manners with human royalty (CM), etc etc. A lot of Sci-Fi/Fantasy storytelling were covered and I really appreciate that. Thank you ANet.
Yet there are no grander epic themes aside from the kill-the-dragon.
I haven’t played GW1. In fact, I’ve sworn not to get into MMOs, but then my friends founded a guild and convinced me to give in. From what I’ve heard and read about GW1 and its expansions (gotten quite fond of the lore), it seem that this story is but a pale shadow of it all.
Asura can keep their labs, it’s all very aesthetic and nifty. But as the OP said, magic ‘n’ mysticism, human gods, involvement by some magical forces etc. would make a much more epic plot then a dredge who flies around in a Boba Fett-esque jetpack.
What’s the happening with the Durmand Priory? They would be excellent in such a grand scale story with deep lore. Whereas they did not have the same significant impact on destroying Zhaitan as the other Orders.

Forcing people to party to complete a dungeon is just wrong, especially after a long chain of soloable content.
Shouldn’t partying up be an essential part of an MMO?
I mostly play this game for player interaction. Those empty / half-empty mid lvl maps are boring as hell as there is none around to assist in the events etc. Big events and dungeons are where the fun is.
If people don’t want to see other players, well play a normal RPG like Dragon Age, with actual good decent story and solo content.
I don’t mind dungeons as a part of a living / personal story, I’d just like them to stay on longer than 2 nanoseconds like MA so that non-grinder casual players may try it on…

If all the Risen would suddenly drop dead (fo realz), kind of like a deactivated droid army, they would sure make a nice fertilizer for rebuilding of Orr.
As much as it’d be cool to see post-Zhaitan days, I wouldn’t want to see this content removed, not even in the expansion. It’s a crucial part of the story.

Lovely and touristy Southsun – cause summer is coming.

Mordremoth
But looks like the new stuff is actually Southsun Cove again: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/may-14-2013/

Finally. Hopefully, Southsun map will not be so empty any more. I started playing the game in late November, so just after the whole lost Shores business, lol. And it’s been quite a boring map since I finally reached 80 to pay it a visit.

Or you could just buy one off the TP. No need to do dungeons or farm WvWvW.
And how else can you get the money for that in say a reasonable amount of time, than grinding the dungeons (ohai thar CoF p1)? Sure, doing maps, events and gathering does give out a decent amount of money, but I guesstimate it would take well over a year to get the money to buy a legendary from TP without dungeons.
But that’s not the issue. It’s not something that should just be easily available to buy. As the original poster said – legendary should be legen-waitforit- dary. That means that players should do some cool / epic / legendary stuff to reach such a goal. So map exploration, rare materials etc – it’s all good. Even WvW to a certain point (even though I agree that people shouldn’t be forced to do PvP if they don’t like it). The problem arises from precursor random drops. RNG is truly a cruel mistress. It’s not about the skill or the time input, it’s all about luck. That’s what should be changed.

Welp, I think that Arah should be closed off now, FOREVER, because, y’know, Zhaitan’s dead! Huzzah!
Quoting because this is an excellent example of how pointless it is to remove significant story content. Especially after only 12 days.
It’s no different than ANet punishing players for having a life other than playing their game. It’s little else, in fact. And that’ll only hurt them in the long run – or even the short run, as this very thread shows.
I got the same feeling. I’ve been playing GW2 since December, made a decent progress, but I don’t have all that much gameplay time for serious money grinding or obsessive farming of say tokens for ascended gear so that I may enjoy Fractals.
I quite like the game, its setting and its story, yet even though ts been months since I’ve gotten to lvl80, it still feels I’m not doing well enough. Yes, I’m doing dailies and monthlies, going to dungeons, exploring maps, have a cool guild etc, but not having playtime for say creating a ‘zerker warrior just for a 2 nanosecond run through CoF p1 and defiling said dungeon days at end just to be able even think about crafting a legendary for example, seems like I’m always lagging behind.
I agree the best rewards should be for those who invest the most time in the game, however there are no satisfactory awards / sense of achievement for recreational players.
Also, I’m really sad I missed the ‘Lost Shores’. From what I’ve read and what people have been saying, it seems like a more interesting living story than F&F. Sure, I’ve explored the Southsun Cove, but it was somewhat boring. There is not much context to it (reading about it on GW2 Wiki doesn’t count imo) and not to mention that the map was pretty empty. Seems like there isn’t much drive for the players to go there now.

It’s understandable with “holiday” dungeons – another year will come, there will be a second Halloween or Christmas, another opportunity for this themed content. However, I don’t see how F&F could ever return if completely removed, so the museum analogy is quite fitting.
I’d love to play the Molten Facility more, but RL is quite hectic this month, so I guess that sadly means I’ll have to kiss the jetpack opportunity goodbye.
And why only 2 weeks for this new content? Even SAB was around for a month.

There are certainly indirect hints about this, indirect as in through Subject’s Alpha annoying little attack. And we know more about Mordremoth than the mysterious water dragon. However, I think ANET would release some publicity/information in terms of a novel before they introduce the new threat / new expansion. And the next book in line isn’t very jungly, but more water-themed (and apparently about Zhaitan) – Sea of Sorrows.

The checkpoint activates the first time the wind blows, but you must die and retry at the checkpoint. If you bandage yourself back up after falling off and teleporting to the start of the story, you’ll have to run it again. I don’t see how it’s possible to be forced to retry 60 times unless you’re choosing not to allow yourself to die.
Ok, I retried this yesterday and it worked. Not immediately though.
Wind blew me down quite soon when I got to the bridge, I fell, didn’t heal myself and dropped dead, yet the checkpoint returned me to the start (just like the teleport when healing).
However, the second try did work when I got about half way (that first little platform thingy). I fell again, but this time when I died I got the checkpoint.
So yay, I can continue with the Durmand Priory story. Thanks Jeffrey! But just to report, in my case the checkpoint doesn’t appear to activate until about half way.
To all those who suggested Stability, I guess it depends on the class. On engineers it doesn’t last very long at all, certainly not to get you anywhere on that bridge.

Hi. I purchased the name change contract from the Gem Store 2 days ago, but then nothing happened. My gem balance dropped meaning that the item had been paid, but I did not receive the contract. When I looked it up online, gw2wiki says the contract should appear in a chosen character’s inbox. I checked all of my characters and gave it some time (24h+), but nothing happened.
This purchase does indeed appear in my Recent purchase section, yet I did not receive anything still.
Would it be possible to get the refund, or preferably, to get the contract delivered?
Cheers.

But why would you want to wear all Arah armor, it’s quite ugly. Certain pieces mixed in can look nice.. the gloves are cool on a Nerco. And the Heavy can look good on a Warrior if a few pieces are replaced.
Exactly, that what puts me off from collecting Arah tokens with my engi. Sure, it’d be great to walk around bragging with the armour from the final dungeon, but the medium one is just sooo ugly. :p
I usually go to any dungeon where guildies want to go. I’ve done CoF grinding a few times, but my main drive for doing dungeons is just having fun with people. Especially if mumble/teamspeak is involved.
But true, HotW was particularly difficult to find players for.
And since AC’s revamp, it’s not frequented as it used to be. At least on my server. I also wouldn’t recommend it as the first dungeon to new players, cause without at least some experience, it gets annoying very soon.

Gotta say that I love the general Tolkien elves OR plant taxonomy theme that’s going on in this thread.
Hmm, ‘Dragon of the North’… not very sylvari-esque, but as I’ve only just recently watched that youtube thing about the Pale-Tree-is-an-Elder-Dragon theory, I’ll give it a 7/10.
My sylvari Ele is Photosynthaesa.

Sorry Jeffrey if you designed this content, but its not fun-at all. After 60 tries, I am done with the personal story.
Exactly. I kept trying and trying and trying and… eventually gave up. Got most of the dungeons now, lvl80 with exotics & ascended, but I’m still stuck on the Bad Blood with my main (engi).
I understand the deal: you watch the flags and run when they stop moving. But it’s much trickier than it sounds. When reaching half the way, it’s difficult to see the flags. And I keep getting surprise-blasted as I reach the middle section. I was hoping the “checkpoint fix” would kick in after reading this thread and retrying, but apparently I get pushed off too soon. Also, the speed buff runs out by half way, making the second part or the acursed bridge even more difficult.
To make things worse, the NPC’s holier-than-though dialogue really invokes murderous intentions.
Sadly, I really like the Durmand Priory (favourite of the orders of Tyria) and would want to finish this story, but I’m avoiding them with all other characters.
