Crucible is the prettiest dungeon imo. It gives me quite a Sci-Fi-ish feeling.
Arah also has a very nice design, though I’ve only played it a handful of times. It’s challenging and imo creates an epic feeling.
Caudecus’ Manor is a great concept, though I hate the camera angles in those corridors/ basement. Can’t count how many times I got downed there just because I couldn’t see what’s going on.
[DV] – megaboss community
I’d be very happy if this is the case. We could certainly use more development in the lore (Cantha, also other races) and going back to the original dragon-threat.
[DV] – megaboss community
Concept sound very formulaic: there’s mini-celebration (Southsun tourism / DragonBash), then not-really-dangerous outlaw bad guys show up (Molten Alliance / Canach’s wildlife / Aetherblade), then we fight them in a dungeon that goes away forever in a few days (MF / Lair /AR). What do we get? Expensive, very random drop skins. If you’re lucky.
After the last few months of Living Story, this isn’t really exciting anymore, even though I was pretty happy with F&F and Southsun. But some novelty is needed. Random interlude-events where we defeat a mediocre outlaw group are only interesting so far. What would really get me excited is a story arc that goes back to real big threats to Tyria or that expands on the lore about some races, especially Sylvari or Asura. And remember, we’ve only defeated 1 dragon thus far and have no idea what drives this menace.
One thing that is interesting though, is the new movement. No idea what that could involve. Climbing?

Am I the only one who doesn’t care at all about miniatures?
Best rewards would be skins, food, or here’s an outlandish thought, something new & permanent maybe. So a zone, even just a ship with new lore and hopefully story that somehow ties to any big, epic threats to Tyria (dragons?) and not another silly outlaw group, would be much welcome. A new story that is going somewhere would be a much better reward than any item drop, imo.
Scavenger hunt will no doubt be fun. No special rewards needed if it’s fun to play-through imo.
Though I think I’m just getting tired of waves silly badguys and minievents from Living Story and hope for something with a better story that will have a permanent effect on the world…

Actually, experiencing a brand shiny new thing is something I would want to share with a buddy. Not for the difficulty, but you know, play and comment the living story. Some people group for PvE exploration too.
OP – yes! This is an MMO (multiplayer, duh!) and while there should be a solo option for people who don’t like to group, solo should not be obligatory in an MMO.

Both their armors are decorated with a lot of feathers, and as a pair/duo, they complement each other well in terms of appearance (one light the other dark).
Ha, true. Maybe like good cop bad cop roles.
Well, this new chapter settles it.

It’s almost poetic if you think about it and EXACTLY HOW all of us who were in beta & first weeks of release went about it. Someone had to take the risk and learn from all of those mistakes which were passed on to everyone else who followed. No one went into it an instant pro. They practiced and let rote memory do the rest. People who want to continue in that tradition should be encouraged, not callously called names. Shame on you for embodying everything that the real Elites get blamed for whenever the term “elitist” gets thrown around. Real elitism embraces taking risks to always be improving…never stop improving. It’s never been about hiding in the comfort of a proven equation.
applause
As someone who started playing the game a few months after the release, I have a lot of gratitude for those who came up with the tactics and for my patient guild mates who took me on endless AC runs till I learned from mistakes.
[DV] – megaboss community
You are just getting old. They were probably having a grand old time experiencing the path for the first time till some old grump showed up barking orders and explaining to them how bad they sucked.
“What are you doing? Stack here! STACK! Skipping. Don’t fight those! Just run through. Everybody stand on the stairs here. I will pull. Don’t move just use one.”.
I have no problem with not skipping stuff or random pulls when people are experiencing the dungeon for the first time. A little exploration and mob fighting doesn’t hurt. However, what I do have a problem with and what probably most of the ppl here are complaining about, is that some players, often in PUG groups, just don’t seem to be following any instructions during vital moments than can only be solved via the well tested tactic, such as the (in)famous burrows. That event doesn’t really forgive mistakes easily.
How many times have you done the Hodgins room, with someone just ignoring the party chat, or instructions after they’ve been explained time and time again? i certainly had a fair share of those experiences. And that’s the issue with unhappy-ending-AC-pugs, not the not skipping or poorly timed pulls.
[DV] – megaboss community
/sees leaked armor images/ Wow, that’s just what my engi would need!
I really hope this turns out into a true new dungeon, not another RNG / gem store mess. I’d really go for those armor tokens.

In the pre-Sounthsun interviews, one of the devs hinted that the new Personal Nemesis might be a she.
Though I personally think the conspicuous Mia healer character from the Effigy ceremony is a better candidate than Kasmeer. Or the announced “mysterious Delaqua” person.
[DV] – megaboss community
Haha, Chariots of Fire. xD
But it’s also a bit disturbing how much Anet entices gambing. :p
[DV] – megaboss community
“WHERE is Kreia Irontooth?!”
[DV] – megaboss community
Having just learned to do AC i can see the problems with pugs are not the dungeon ,but the community. We all like to think AC as the next CoF speed run ,in fact it requires more skill. P1 is a pain even with those who know it. Timing is also a problem if one person stops kiting or a Elemental is not at then things slow down. Most usually with a Party wipe and players leave.
It looks as if the community is already divided and we expect professional players to do dungeons now ,which is bad.
And the issue is also that AC is very unforgiving to any mistakes. Imo, it’s not the best place to learn how to run dungeons, even though it is supposed to be the lowest level. If one mistake is made, or 1 person gets downed too soon (say at the Spider Queen or during burrow-smashing events), it all suddenly goes downhill. So I guess it’s hard to become good at this dungeon. People who are new at it need time and instructions sure, but as said before, some people just don’t listen / ignore their party. And a lot of players like that do seem to end up in AC of all places…. maybe because it’s the first dungeon and thus everyone’s first port of call for dungeoneering, idk.
[DV] – megaboss community
Yup, knowing time and gold = EFFORT that players can put into this is better than PURE DUMB LUCK. But as with F&F and Southsun, Anet and/or NCsoft (whoever is deciding these things) simply refuse to listen to their players.
[DV] – megaboss community
Actually I thought things were getting better. I had terrible experience with AC. But recently I’ve been armor token hunting for my alt and most of the PUGs that I joined did a pretty good job. But to be fair, most of the players were had 1500+ achievement points… even if that isn’t the ideal way to ascertain if a person is experienced. I had an 800 a.points guy and he did brilliantly.
I guess people learned p3 so they know what to do now. p1 is more difficult but groups that I’ve been in lately have done well. It’s just kittening Ghost Eater that I won’t go anywhere near without good players from my guild.
[DV] – megaboss community
My bet (and also what i HOPE)
A new PERMANENT dungeon. The steampunk gear is most likely the armour you can buy from that dungeon, its the armour set.
Yes. Just yes. It would be EXCELLENT. But considering what Anet has been toing with the living story recently, my hopes are not very high.
Btw, cheers for sharing the images ppl. I’ve seen glimpses, but these pics from different angles are quite interesting.
[DV] – megaboss community
Cheers for the invite! Haven’t been online last week, but should be around now if anything is happening on EU servers. Lol, I’m developing quite a jealousy for the Tarnished Coast people. xD
[DV] – megaboss community
Had the same issue yesterday and about a month ago, on the same character. Skills 6-9: “unable to use while transformed”. I usually take my guardian to AC, so this wasn’t much of a problem, but it is very inconvenient never the less. I just posted this in the Bugs forum, before I saw this thread.
Glad to see the fix is on the way. Hope it’ll happen soon.
[DV] – megaboss community
Hi, I skimmed through but couldn’t find if this was brought up before, so here it is. Yesterday I played AC p3 and when the little Asura NPC turned the party into ghosts, my engineer got all the right-side skills locked. When I drew the cursor over skills 6-9, the message was “unable to use while transformed”. This has happened to me once before (about a month ago) on this same character. Usually I take my guardian to AC and have never encountered the same problem with her.
Luckily, we managed to defeat the Colossus despite me not accessing crucial skills, but that was due to a good party.
Is this an engineer-specific thing that was tweaked in myriad AC updates (if so, it’s rather inconvenient), or is it a bug?
[DV] – megaboss community
Only a hologram? Aww.
xD
[DV] – megaboss community
I see. If you guys would be ok with me not representing 100% of the time, I’d love to join LoH.
[DV] – megaboss community
- agrees with OP *
Also, the charged loadstone drop rate is pretty decent.
But I guess as with any dungeon, it’s fun as long as there’s a good group.
[DV] – megaboss community
I’ve stumbled across a link to this place in a lets-do-a-particular-not-common-dungeon-without-pressure thread, as well as seeing several call for map exploration threads, so I wanted to check out this community project. Looks like you have a great thing going here guys.
One doesn’t find that many ppl willing to go about simple PvE exploration for the heck of it. I’m after the world completion (no rush though), but that can get quite boring sometimes as middle-lvl maps aren’t very densely populated. At least not on my server (medium).
So if anyone based on any EU server wants to do some map-roaming, please let me know.
Name: hedix
Main Character: Isoldë, Norn Guardian. Alt that I use quite a lot is: Tristan Vance, human Engineer.
Current Server: Ruins of Surmia (EU)
Interested Activities: landscape PvE, dungeons, socialising.
Active: In the evenings GMT+1 / CEST, several times a week; during the day on some weekends.
Additional Comments: started with GW2 just before New Year and it’s the first MMO I’ve ever played. So far I’m quite enjoying it, it’s the community that does the trick. I got into the lore just recently.
Are you willing to participate in Operation: UNION’S project, Y/N?: yes!
I have a question, though. Is it necessary to become a LoH guild member for the project? I ask because I’m already in a guild, one that I’m very fond of. We’re quite small, hence not enough ppl for me to jolly around the world for simple PvE exploration, but I’d still like to keep representing them as this is my only guild since day 1 and it was also founded by RL friends.
Ive been tyrying to find some EU players since ive finished uni for a bit and come back to gaming! Ive had a fair bit of experience in dungeons though im not sure what some of them are like since theyve patched dungeons a few times over since i last played.
the more EU guys we get the better it can be!
That’s great to hear. Usually these cool community ideas are always centered on NA servers.
[DV] – megaboss community
This… this is beautiful. xD
I think I need a mind bleach now, but it made my day.
[DV] – megaboss community
and Faren seems to know her too.
If its a lady, lord Faren is familiar with it. xD
I didn’t even think that “Jory” could have been a female name or nickname. I blame Dragon Age for that, since their Jory is the only character I could remember with that name.
Funny, cause her full name reminded me of Marjorlaine.
I guess it’s another name to put on the possible Personal Nemesis list. It doesn’t help matters at all, when they describe her as “person of interest” and “mysterious” right off the bat.
Indeed. Also, from the dev talk it’s been hinted that PN is likely a woman.
And I love the idea that’s been goining on since F&F, of a “young DE” with Rox and Braham. Brings to mind Junior Scooby Do type cartoons. xD
[DV] – megaboss community
Aaargh, NA server again! xD
It’s an excellent idea though. Some maps can be pretty empty in places (at least on medium population servers) which gets a bit boring when doing the map completion, all baaaah maaah seeeelf.
If anyone would like to do this on any EU server (concerning any mid-lvl or Orr map), please let me know.
[DV] – megaboss community
Love the dancer in the background. xD
[DV] – megaboss community
I’m in. Is this european or american server guild? I am on EU.
Kain Strongarrow
Why are these cool ideas always on American servers? This, the dungeon tutorial guild, the Arah help guild, etc etc.
I guess we europeans should get out kitteh together… xD
[DV] – megaboss community
None. I got 4 crates running around Southsun, but they’ve all been pretty meh.
[DV] – megaboss community
Am the only one reading more into that dragonish appearance at the end of the DB trailer?
1:02 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDFFCgvkWSM
So, yeah that could be a tie in to the Living Story…
[DV] – megaboss community
It’s be great if the living story somehow turns in the direction of a new Dragon menace. In fact the end of the DB trailer is very interesting.
[DV] – megaboss community
Ok, good to know, thanks.
I remember it was underwater fight for the last boss, but yeah, according to wiki both are underwater paths. :p
[DV] – megaboss community
They forgot to demand that all players need to have a legendary, duh!
[DV] – megaboss community
Is there a way to see which dungeon paths have been completed for the dungeon completion achievement?
I have 2/4 completed paths on HotW (without the story), but I’ve ran them some time ago and don’t exactly remember which paths I’m still missing? Is there a way to check this somehow?
Couldn’t find if this was asked before, please link me if it was.
[DV] – megaboss community
Hopefully. At the end of the promo video, there is a shadow/ghost of a large dragon flying over Lion’s Arch. this would be an excellent time to introduce a new threat to Tyria.
Bubbles or Mordremoth?
[DV] – megaboss community
I’d love them to keep the Lovecraftian theme in naming as well as in appearance (if that early concept art with tentacled minions is correct).
[DV] – megaboss community
Love the idea, too bad PST means you’re all on NA servers.
[DV] – megaboss community
Get in a good group. THat’s all I can say. I don’t think the dungeon is that hard, so if you ran it like 5 times, I doubt you’ll fail 5 times ina row unless you are really unlucky with getting good party.
That right there. That’s the issue with AC nowdays. Truly, a good group makes AC quite easy. But a good AC group is also quite tricky to come by.
As someone mentioned already, most of experienced players have no interest in it any more and LFG is full of people who don’t really know how what to do in this dungeon. Which would be fine, but Catacombs is the one dungeon that is very unforgiving to new players.
I’m farming armor tokens form my new character and I’ve done a bit of AC yesterday. Had a great run with the guildies, we got through p3 very quickly. But then I PUGed for p1 and it was a nightmare. We tried several character switches for different party configurations, but ‘new guys’ couldn’t make it through the Hodgins burrow event, even though the rest of us explained what to do on multiple occasions.
I’ve then joined a group who needed to replace a rage-quitter for p2. They were quite good players, but unfortunately not so good party configuration (2 ele, ranger, mes + my guard), so after agonizing 30min we called it. Maybe it was buggy as the Ghost Eater was healing faster than usual as someone pointed out, but still, I don’t think updated p2 is at all good for a group that doesn’t have a good party configuration with preferably lvl80s.
[DV] – megaboss community
First of, this thread has been a good source of insight and what to do / what not to do, so cheers for that guys.
I’ve never done p4. Mainly due to not finding a party. A couple of times I’ve gotten a few guildies but we couldn’t find a final player, I guess people are having a hard time dedicating 2-3+ hours for a single dungeon. LFG for Arah4 isn’t so promising, at least no on EU servers. However, I’ve done a bit of ‘research’, just to avoid TPK by ignorance once I do manage to find a group.
So my questions are, from experience, what would be the best party configuration to do p4, and how much time would it be reasonable to expect to spend in the dungeon if the players are experienced, but say half of the party hasn’t done this path before?
[DV] – megaboss community
are you matching the proper mine defuse skill to the appropriate mine? An icon over the mine should match the icon of the defuse skill.
Robert,
Yes, the fight is super buggy.
1) Based on my own attempts last night, I find that about 25% of the correctly oriented shots just won’t register on a mine. The mine won’t trigger, nor will it change color. If you didn’t know any better, you would swear that you never shot at that mine. (This was the main cause of my deaths last night.)
Had the same issue. I died a few times and thought I was somehow messing up the different triggers, but after about 30min, I realised that some mines just never trigger even if everything is done properly.
I don’t mind much as there is no chest involved, but it’d be nice to be able to complete the achievement.
[DV] – megaboss community
Couldn’t agree with the OP more.
Personally, I never understood people who complained about the need to group for MF. I mean, GW2 is an MMORPG, multiplayer being one of the key words. But fine, if people for whatever reason don’t like that, solo should be an option. However, obligatory-solo instance in an MMO should be an oxymoron.
[DV] – megaboss community
I really enjoyed the exploration feel to the whole Southsun business. Feels a bit Indiana Jonesy, especially with the “fieldwork” and wildlife corruption etc.
But yeah, I agree with the OP, it’s been time to get something bigger than what living story has been so far. I haven’t played GW 1, but from what I’ve heard/read, it’s storytelling part was beyond anything seen in this game. I enjoy GW2 thus far, but more epic plots would be very much appreiated.
[DV] – megaboss community
Same thing happened to guildie and me yesterday. Is it a bug? Any response / guidlines will be much appreciated.
[DV] – megaboss community
“RNG” and : D smiley face should never be in the same line…
[DV] – megaboss community
I’m not too keen on single-player bits, this is an MMO not a single player game after all. I play it mainly because of other people, for everything else, there are decent RPGs with decent story out there, like Dragon Age. So yeah, defeating Canach was a bit annoying, I’m disappointed to hear the final instance would be single-player as well.
Instances are the way forward I guess. ‘Lost shores’ happened just before I started playing, but I understand they were super laggy. Instances would be one way of dealing with 90% of the server wanting to do the event at the same time.
It’s be nice to get something more permanent. I understand that it’s living story, but we had months of stagnation with F&F and now everything happened within a short time window of a few weeks: MF, Secret of Southsun, Canach…
[DV] – megaboss community
If you’re planning on running AC frequently, give me a shout in game! It can get tricky to get a good AC group nowdays. I’m “farming” it for armor token on my alt and eventually for the Gift of Ascalon.
[DV] – megaboss community
Divinity’s Reach is my favourite. Design is beautiful, you really get a feeling of grandeur and I love all the lore-hunting opportunities in forms of books and statues.
[DV] – megaboss community
^^ Oh I missed that.
Aw, a bit disappointed now.
[DV] – megaboss community
Tentacles! Bubbles is in fact Cthulhu. Mystery solved.
I really like the potential Mordremoth evil-plant-esque corruption. Those minions really look like zombied up Sylvari. Could they finally be corrupted like all the other races when Mordremoth comes to the stage?
