Removal of content is never a good idea! It was always followed by player grief (cough Living Story) and it takes away the choice.

What is now left for us who do not want a EotM-y PvE jumping puzzle, but want to continue with our WvW experience? Only EB?

The New WvW Borderland

Concern B: WvW players don’t like mechanics that get in the way of actually fighting the enemy.

This isn’t a map for WvW players. We’re too few and don’t make A.net enough money to be cared about. This is a map to give PvE’rs more to do. Most of the people kittening over these gimpy mechanics are PvE’rs. That’s why you see posts from people who admit they don’t play WvW but this will get them too.

And I’d be fine with this, except they’re removing our Alpine borderlands! Where can I go if I don’t want EotM-y PvE jumping puzzle thing? Is EB all WvWers have left now?

Everyone is screaming because we were complaining about how zergs and blobs were able to streamroll everything AND THEN THE MADE IT EVEN WORSE.

Nothing “leveled” the field. Now you either blob, or you get blobbed, and if you run into another blob you stare at each other slinging AOEs and ranged attacks until one side gets bored and either builds siege, runs away, or suicidally pushes into you and dies.

EXACTLY. I find all these posts who say that stab change is the end of blobbing, totally ridiculous.
What stability change killed is Guild Raids. Like 15v15, 20v20. Now you need to be a massive blob to have enough ppl to survive ACs, or be blobbed by the other server.
And with that, the last thing left that I enjoyed in this game, that wasn’t nerfed or removed, is gone.

I feel like these stability changes were designed and meant for the Revenant with their aoe stab on dodge, to be with them and silly ANet decided to plop it out now.

And made it so that all other classes are useless for guild raids and we all need to give $$ and buy the expansion so that we can all be Revenants to have decent stability. Just wow.

Do not replace current borderland maps

Server merge (which is needed anyway) would be a much better solution to the population issue that removal of existing content – which only brought player grief in the past (cough Living Story) and caused a lot of people to quit the game.

There are some of us who don’t wish to play jumping puzzles. We can either stay content in EB and Alpine or leave GW2 completely.

Stab change messed up guild raids. Until we adapt. But it’s annoying as hell. I really don’t appreciate how Anet seems to be nerfing or destroying most of interesting things about the game. To make WvW how they think it should be, not like how actual players have actually been playing it for over 2 years. It’s like the rude dev vs GvGers incident all over again.

Get it, Anet, WvW isn’t just for spread out roamers and PvD. People like organised big fights. If you want to keep that player population, stop killing our experience.

The New WvW Borderland

Wait, they’re actually removing our borderlands for this jumping puzzley pvey thing??? :O
That… might make me quite GW2 actually. Not a fan of the layout, I don’t do JP, and dislike EotM. I was hoping the new map might be added like a special bl, a la EB, or to have 3 maps of Alpine, Desert and EB. Not happy about this at all, as WvW is the only thing that still interests me and I can’t believe Anet is removing yet more of the content that made the game great.

True. It isn’t hard, it’s pretty easy to figure out. But it is extremely tedious. And that’s just for the story – achis are downright annoying.

Imagine a massive group encounter fighting alongside allied ‘foreign’ NPCs. These NPCs call out directions (verbal telegraphs) that only language-empowered players can understand, which they can then translate for the other players, empowering the group as a whole.

I think there is a ton of room to make language mastery useful in a variety of contexts.

So exactly like playing open world on EU servers after the Tower of Babel Megaserver hit? NO THANKS.

I’d be worried about the balance. If all maps are completely different, some may be easier to defend/attack. Best example is the Red in EotM – always gets farmed and its easiest to cap.

Also, they’ve already removed too much content in this game. I’m not a fan of that strategy.

Happy to get something new. Though I’m also skeptical about the introduction, but will reserve the judgement until we find out more at PAX East.
I just really hope that nothing is taken away when this is introduced. Like when they removed TA fw/fw path to replace it with Aetherblades. My fear is that they might remove EB in favour of the new map. Which would make me a sad panda.

If they put in a new map, there might be coverage and population issues, at least in the Bronze. But I’d rather deal with that than yet even more content removal.

Expect:
- New zones. Maybe Elona, from the hints in the Finale.
- New personal story with grindy achivements
- New weapons
- Guild Halls (there was talk about this)
- Small WvW changes

Wish:
- ~~~~~~more Dungeons~~~~~~
- ~~~~~~more love to WvW, GvG etc~~~~~~
- No trait change = nerf. Not a fan of nerfs, to might, crit damage and the like. I enjoy high damage. Taking longer to kill stuff is tedious, not fun. Challenging encounters on the other hand are appreciated. But no need to nerf meta for it.
- No grindy changes that nobody asked for, like the trait farming in NPE.
- No locking of the new stuff or dumbing down stuff like in the atrocity that was the September patch.
- At least 2 new maps in the new zones from the GW1 areas. Priory basement hints at Elona, so hopefully that. Not only lvl80, but something for leveling too. Preferably with hearts.
- New class (heavy)
- New race
- New weapons for each class. Trailer hints at Spear, that is acceptable.
- 1-2 available character slots
- Underwater combat improvements – hopefully in preparation for S!Bubbles
- Raid content: not based on open world where it is difficult to learn due to AFKers. Also, due randomness of client crashes & dc, one has issues of playing with like-minded folks in open world and needs to spam to join the correct overflow. No, for the new raids, we need to be able to choose people we play with. Otherwise, it will just be frustrating because of technicalities, not the encounter itself.
- At least 2 new dungeons with full paths
- WvW changes on a bigger scale – now that there are seemingly different factions, maybe this can be translated into the Mist War too. Different modes: the maps that we already have, but also the human-Charr battles with the turned!Sylvari on a grand scale.

Pure wishful thinking: return of the Server Spirit from the Megaserver Tower of Babel via either switch back to server system, or server chat, or alliances, or heck having only main cities as real servers. Megaservers took away some great server team spirit in all game aspects and eventually killed our guild as a lot of people left.

There were pretty good attempts yesterday (just attempts), in a an organised map, with TS, with taxiing people, yet the response wasn’t that big and ultimately we failed a few breach bosses and it took a long time to get to the breach in the first place. We were hardcapped but a lot of people AFK’d until the breach. Reasons? Don’t know. There was a lot of disappointment with the nerfed chests in the map chat. I guess people don’t see SW as rewarding any more.

So I’m expecting that as soon as most ppl get their achievements, SW will be empty. At least with the chest farm, there was always someone on the map. And I was also pleasantly surprised with the community! It was not toxic at all. People were helpful, everyone was having a good time. Ppl got the rewards and they answered when commanders in other forts would call for help. It was easier to get organised with that pool of people. Since the Nerf, it’l be much more difficult to get the achievements for those who haven’t done so already.

Going off of all of 2014, the set up seems to be:

2 months of Bi-weekly releases (note: 4 releases)
2 month mid-season break for holiday, feature batch, and/or WvW tourney.
2 months of Bi-weekly releases (note: 4 releases)
4 month post-season break for holiday, feature batch, and/or WvW tourney.

Rinse repeat.

Normally I wouldn’t mind this. But 4 months is getting too long, I really hope this doesn’t happen again. We need something to keep guildies from leaving. Too many people was lost to ArcheAge already. And activity goes ridiculously low in the break months.

Oh lawl OP and other QQers.
L2P N00BS, srsly! This is a game, use that fact! Exploit the Megaserver to keep the players apart! If the fools can’t get organised, they’ll fail and rage quit. And to defeat the rest, just gear up! PVT or condi should do, use AOE skills. Simple.
Anet didn’t yet state if us using the Megaserver against them is bannable, so we can keep doing it until they fix it.

Also, if you wanna boss good, use the holy trinitydivide the zerg into 3. Splitting the players gets them every time, cause they have to think and you know they hate that. With a PVT or Cleric gear, you can stay alive long enough to leave if they don’t kill you in say 15min.

Srsly, Anet! Give us more difficult players! Why didn’t you teach them about Zerk gear yet! Why do I still have to one shot lame non-dodgers?! Why bowbears lol? Change AI so that players dodge more, this is too easy! Think of us hardcore mobs! Give us RAIDS with organised players!

I don’t mind taking my husks & co. into GvG against GW2community, those guys show some respect!

Hello all,

Just a quick note to let you know that we still have a dedicated team working on improving the megaserver issues.

Thank you, even a brief answer is really appreciated after months of silence.
However, could you please be a bit more specific? Exactly which of the many issues will you be tackling?

The WvW Tournament is coming to an end, and a lot of people unhappy with the state of the game were only still playing because of it. Now that it is over, and tourney isn’t keeping the dissatisfied customers, could you give us some firm answers for what we can expect in the future. I.e. what can people tell their guildies to keep them from leaving etc.

Issues I would like to see SOLVED, not just “improved”, as I would love to play the pre-April GW2 that I initially enjoyed:

  • Community: Alliance button for friendly guilds and specialised guilds that run megabosses.
  • Community: Ability to choose a megaserver instance to join our guildies and serverians and friends.
  • Community: Server chat. Ability to communicate only with our co-serverians.
  • Megabosses: Teq, Wurm and Karka spawn more often.
  • Megabosses: Instanced raids.
  • World bosses: End of the schedule. Dynamic Events =/= Timetable Events.
  • Orr: Again, ability to chose which Megaserver instance to go to, to finally make Temple events available to more people.

Why ppl can’t just listen to the Commanders?Why is so hard to just use a ts3?

This times a million.

But sadly, as seen from many open world raids, average population of GW2 consists of people who aren’t keen on engaging in organisation or reading/listening. And they also don’t bother finding out a decent build.
Without instanced raid content, and without choosing which server we go to and choosing people to play with, this creates random problems and things like “good server” and “bad server” and the constant need for Taxi.

Suggestion for whispering gold sellers

I think it’s a bad idea. Yes, we need something to shut of the gold sellers, but blocking communication should never be the solution. And it would do harm to organisation attempts on big events, and those organisation efforts already have plenty to deal with from troll and AFKers to Megaserver quirk.s We need all and more means of communication, not less!

  • Why we absolutely need to whisper strangers?
    TEQUATL organisation of Defense Parties. While a lot of people know how to run Teq event, there are always a few who choose to AFK near the turrets. If they are not in defense parties, and they don’t go to DPS groups, they will scale up the defense, champions will spawn, defense will be harder, we might loose the turret, zerg won’t be cleansed, people will die, not enough DPS will be dealt on the dragon. The event fails due to a few AFKers/trolls. Happened a lot. And Megaboss guilds in the early days (and still occasionally) keep WHISPERING said AFKers/trolls or new players that don’t know what’s going on and are not reading map chat or say chat and refuse to come to TS.
    Wurm and WvW also require whispers.
    Future Megaboss and events a la Marionette / Knightfall and Boss Blitz WILL REQUIRE EXPLANATION TO THOSE THAT CAN’T BE BOTHERED TO READ ANY CHAT. Whisper at least prods them.
    While we don’t have instanced raid content, and the means in game for a few to spoil the event for many, /w at least prods them, and it is necessary.

Good example of why blocking any communication is a bad idea is the Megaserver Tower of Babel and the hastily introduced option of blocking messages in other languages. Does that solve the issue? Nope. If you have it on, you can’t see the messages and you might not be confused by “foreigness”. However, that doesn’t mean those messages aren’t there! For any kind of organisation, not just megabosses, just take a look at the Pavillion, player communicaiton is vital.
If block is installed for whispers, it will have negative effects on the rest of the game.

There I was, silly rabbit, thinking that loot has absolutely no meaning and only the gameplay matters. Deary, deary me.

Normally, I would completely agree. Good example is WvW. But in this PvE, when you don’t have actual novel/enjoyable gameplay, when there is no permanent content (it’s been enough time for most people to go through everything aspect of the game), no new areas/dungeons etc., loot, in addition to community, becomes important for the shear cosmetic progression of people’s characters. And cosmetics are important driver in GW2, yet players have less and less means to go for expensive items with sources of income being nerfed and with more focus being on the cash shop and gems-gold conversion actually advertised (!) by Anet. Not everyone has the RL money to buy a skin. I’m sure more people would be inclined to spend the money on actual content like an expansion which offers said gameplay.

tl;dr – Ofc gameplay is more important, but with the lack of gameplay cosmetics become more important and they require loot/gold. People will play fun content without demanding loot. See: Great Jungle Wurm. Sadly this patch isn’t such content.

Yesterday I had my first real MegaServer experience (I mainly PvP and WvW) in the Pavilion.

And for some reason more or less every single guild or commander in that map were from my server, Aurora Glade.
So clearly the system DOES take server and such into account, despite what people in this thread seems to claim.

Very strange, consider yourself very lucky.

I got split from my guildies (even party members, and surprise surprise, hardcap!), didn’t see my familiar server tags and even encountered some good ol’ server bashing (of gold league, I’m bronze lol) in the light of a new end of the WvW tournament.
Then I gave up on the Pavillion, as with poor rewards and without guildies / server allies to play with, it isn’t worth playing.

Would pay gems for a devpost about the megaserver.

I’d only pay gems to see it removed.

(If you want a realm vs realm game, you need realms. Logic.)

If that cannot be done, then the next move is to have at least 1 PvE map that is stationary for our home server and not an overflow like the OP and a lot of people in the Megaserver Feedback thread suggested. LA is a good place for that.

Loot is what made the event fun last time. Generally, people don’t like the mindless zerg, but last year it really paid off and it was fun to get some rewards for once. Now however, as there are no rewards, I don’t really see the reason to play.
People will play content with bad loot if it is fun, see WvW and Wurm. But this sadly isn’t such content.
Labyrinthine looks beautiful, but that’s about it for this patch.

Wait what?! “Not considered the issue”? After a negative reception to the Living World, noted by the CDI, and playerbase’s pleas for an expansion. Really.

The last facebook post about the megaserver has been quickly filled with heavy bashing of it. And then some swift moderation occurred. ;>

That picture was a bit insulting. After poorly announced roll-out and so many concerns and issues pointed out by guilds and communities, and after people leaving, without a significant communication about those concerns and the future, writing a head-in-the-sand “Megaserver is great, all glory to the Hypnotoad” post is just ridiculous.

I was super rude today. I was fractaling with no pulse, ariete, and someone else they knew plus one pug. I was doing pretty poorly on my guardian at growl and I saw my AR trinkets weren’t on. So I got my AR up and the pug asks if I have AR. I said yes.

So then another wipe happens. I’m so bad at guardian. The pug goes “switch back to your ele, you need AR”. So I then flipped out in my root canal rage and said “f*** you” pings 38 AR “f*** yourself” initiate vote kick. On TS I demanded they second it.

I was very rude. But it made me feel so good. I hope I get an angry thread dedicated to me soon.

Day 31….

My fellow survivors and I are still adrift on some forsaken ocean, forgotten in the wake of the Megaserver apocalypse. Morale is low. Many of us didn’t make it this long, leaping overboard with broken spirit and hoping the fates would see to give them a better life in the great beyond.

With nary a devpost in sight to offer us hope I fear we will not last long.

Day 31… Megaserver nightmare continues.

It’s been a while since I visited a Temple. It seems like the 6 gods have forsaken us on this overflow-ocean. At last, Malchor has truly been “left alone”.

We lost many when we encountered the Kraken Wurm monster. As we rushed to face the challenge that might give us hope in these dark megaserver times, by some invisible hand our friends were torn from our side and we ended up in different realities. Brothers and sisters in arms scattered across unknown dimensions, cursed by the hardcap-bug never to be joined with their loved ones. Scenes of chaos still haunt my sleep.

Last week we spotted the dry land. My heart leapt with the hope of seeing firm server-land again, my dehydrated lips dreamt about kissing the solid ground… But as our guild-raft approached, there was a queue at the shore and the Blue-tagged natives refused to accept the PvE refugees.

Hey dungeoneers, did anyone else notice the floor bug in AC p3 at the burrows becoming more frequent lately?
It occurred before, but I noticed in the last week or so, I got stuck in one spot pretty much every time I would go up the steps in that room. GSW 3 or 5 on warrior, or GSW 3 on guard helps, but it is still a quite annoying.

The problem is that with the huge changes to boss rotation and the megaserver a lot of people have become disconnected from the “old content” that they filled their time with and enjoyed doing.

There is a real disconnect out there and while the players could usually survive that a fair while, with the situation as it is, things are not good.

temples hmmmm i realy don’t remember when i made last temple, cos every time i log i see everything done. why is that so? cos u have so many ppl on the map that any even’t which would start temple pre-event is getting rushed by many.

I haven’t done Dwayna since a day or so after the “feature patch”. Every time I went to Orr since, all of the Temple events were done and there wasn’t much left to do. I once joined for Grenth when a guildie called (still need the skill!), but the overflow we ended up in didn’t have enough skilled people, and it failed. Upon re-entering the Cursed Shore, we ended up in an overflow when the event was already completed.

That would be possible, but when something goes wrong when doing the dungeon, it’s blame the “non zerker” phase as the boss didn’t died fast enough and we wiped.
The elitism on this game it’s only growing and only damaging the community itself, being very un-friendly for new players.…

I’m sorry, but it is not elitism, it is just a) reading the LFG post, and b) understanding how GW2 works. Usually if a problem starts in PUGs, it is because the boss didn’t die fast enough, and that’s because DPS wasn’t high enough. That is why when people want smooth and fast runs, they write “zerk only”. If you don’t agree, don’t join them. If you want to play something more suitable to say a PVT build, go to WvW.

Again, it isn’t elitism, it is just adapting to requirements of different game modes.

The friendly thing to new players is to teach them how to play the game in the best possible way for everyone – and that is often telling them to ’zerk up.
