Why would they remove this???
My favorite part of the feature pack is when they brought back eight-player parties.
Wait, you mean they DIDN’T bring back eight-player parties!?!?
Well, back to Guild Wars 1, I guess….
- Hard mode would work in instanced areas.
Other things they dropped from GW1…
- Eight-player parties.
- The old radar that revealed a lot more than our mini-map does now and had tiny green dots for NPC, purple for real people, and red for enemies.
- The little blue silhouette icon over people and a number next to it saying how many people are in their party. (if brought back, this could be toggled on/off
— OR, make it so you can see how many people are in the “leaders” (or top) person’s party. This also aids in finding people who are in a party or looking for a party — AND it gives the illusion that more people are in the world with you)
- Alliances (as opposed to being in 2-3 guilds)
- Auto-follow (as a support specialist, just click on your “tank” and keep hitting space. Also, if you see an enemy, hitting c-space (or in GW2’s case, c-skill 1) would automatically run your character up to it)
- Using the arrow keys to pan/tilt the camera.
- Being able to zoom out farther. Much, much farther.
- “Zooming all the way in” to first person view. (Not ideal in combat situations for some, but makes traversing vast zones more scenic and taking the most desired screenshots of GW2’s gorgeous landscape)
- Being able to observe PvP from anywhere in the game with the ‘b’ key (and not losing your place in the world)
- When attacking, auto moving in range.
- Being able to ping your build template.
- Weapon swap bar.
- Customizable HUDs.
- Repeatable missions.
- I really miss seeing rankings in GvG: #22 South Central [cent] vs. #261 Plus Hiding [og]. It really gave you that feeling of an upset if the under-ranked team came out on top. I could see something like this working for WvW on a lesser scale.
- The chk chk sound if that skill was recharging or you were out of energy.
I also agree with the statement about having 3-4 guilds is like having 3-4 girlfriends, you’re not really loyal to one.
Not at all.
Compared to Guild Wars 1, I mean.
I wouldn’t mind seeing some sort of tier system for guilds ranging from casual to “core”. Or…some kind of PvP, PvE, or WvW tag system.
Make expectations known from the get-go. Websites are usually a good way to lay them out.
I also agree with the statement about having 3-4 guilds is like having 3-4 girlfriends, you’re not really loyal to one.
I think what he’s really asking for is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle MMO.
Two words: unarmed combat.
Anet, do not disappoint me.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
You could always try logging on to Guild Wars 1. I hear those servers are pretty empty.
Seriously, where’s the “-1” button when you need it?
Probably when I realized Guild Wars 1 was better because you had 8-12 player parties.
Not even an expansion; just release new skills every now and then and make a couple new instances every so often. And, by new skills, I don’t mean, here’s a new healing skill — have fun! I mean either 6-7 skills a month or 2 skills a week.
And I’m still waiting for an MMO to successfully implement user-created worlds. Guild Wars won’t be the first (as much as I want it to be), and as soon as somebody does (which, I think Everquest is talking about), I’ll be among the first in line to try it out.
While waiting for Arena to make an app, I sort of found a work around for the notification problem: Add Guild Wars 2 to your Steam via the non-Steam game library.
To add Guild Wars 2 your non-Steam game library (for notifications), all you have to do is: go into Steam > Games on the task bar > Add a non-steam game to my library > check the box that says Guild Wars 2 when it populates > Add selected programs > and you’re good to go.
You can also get the Steam mobile app (Android and iOS), for free, that lets you see if friends are on-line, even when you’re away from the computer.
This concept ONLY works when you open it through Steam, so I deleted the GW2 shortcut(s) on my desktop/start bar, went back into Steam, right clicked Guild Wars 2 in my library and selected create a desktop shortcut from there.
How feasible would it be for users to create their own world’s in the Super Adventure Box ala Minecraft?
One of the major complaints about this game is doing the same thing over and over again. This is a possible solution.
There was talk of making a friends list app for smartphones, specifically Apple’s iPhone. It would be nice to receive pop-up notifications of when friends came on-line. What ever came of this idea\project? I think it’s an easy enough step that would set this game apart from other MMO’s and help sustain GW2’s high player population.
Or notifications when someone came on-line
It’d be nice if u could see who was on-line from your smartphone.
Until they add a “mount(s)” filter in the subject line, the assault will continue…
Pretty much what the title suggests. I would be interested to know what the devs/community thinks about having the option to link up to two e-mail accounts (in case your GW1 e-mail address is different) to achievements that apply to BOTH games:
- Daily Kills
- Champion\Veteran\Boss Slayer (or the GW1 equivalent)
- Condition Applier\Remover
- Daily Recycle
- Dungeon Completer
- Healer
- Kill Variety
- Leveler
- Personal Story Completer
- Skill Point Accumulator
- Skill Interupter
- Shiverpeaks\Maguuman\etc. Killer
Feel free to disagree, but I don’t think this concept is too inconceivable; plus…it would give nostalgic belly achers (the ones complaining that GW2 should be more like GW1) like me incentive to log into GW1 now and then.
Thoughts?
We currently have no plans to implement an in-game voice communication client. There are plenty of viable third-party options available, such as Ventrilo, Teamspeak and Mumble.
That might be fine for WvW and thank you for taking the time to respond, Mark. But, like others have eluded, not really a viable comm option for PvP (hotjoin) or PvE.
“You have been playing for 1 hour please take a break.”
I almost wish they’d bring this back purely for nostalgia’s sake.
That’s all we need. A buggy voice comms system that can’t be separated from the game. Having a separate prog is the best for all games.
What makes you think it would be buggy if the licensed the technology from say Teamspeak, Mumble, etc? It would be using the same engine players are using now only easily accessible, secured (as in much more difficult for competing servers to listen in) and as I stated previously something that will be baked into next gen MMOs (and already in some current gen MMOs without being buggy).
MMOs are meant to be a social experience and having to run 3rd party programs to make them more social in todays connected world is pretty stupid.
Too…much…LOGIC!!
The Engineer will always be an “April Fools’ joke” in my eyes. They should have never introduced it. They jumped the Pandaria-shark with that one.
Solution: How about we just keep mounts out of PvE, sPvP, and WvW…but allow them in all other game modes?
I suppose one “work around” for that would be to go either invisible or away except when I’m actually playing.
…still, it’d be nice if it displayed on my friends list when I was in an actual server. 90% of the time I’m idle in the Mists.
How would you feel about being able to see what PvP server your friends are on and\or right-clicking and ‘join in PvP server’ on your friends list?
This idea was partially inspired by how the Edge of the Mists overflows are setup.
Too late…already left my guilds.
I’ll be on the first train back when the reintegrate 8v8 sPvP hot join.
Now that they nerfed 8v8 sPvP down to 5v5?
…already left my guild.
I needed a break anyway…
I gave it a couple of business days for the devs to bring more than three 8v8 hot join servers back.
For the troll who wants my stuff, you can’t have it. I’ll still be checking from time to time.
Enjoy your 5v5’s! Off to Team Fortress 2 I go!
Guys, this is all my fault.
I asked for 8 player PvE/WvW parties on the general discussion forum, and they retaliated by trashing PvP.
I take complete responsibility.
“I’m sad that less than 400 people will see this. " — hip.8435
5,620 viewers and counting. Whoops!
You won’t get any flame from me. I’m sad that less than 400 people will see this. Way too much hype for this patch.
I remember quitting GW1 for a while and getting a call from my friend out of the blue, “Did you hear about update X?” Then logging on and being blown away.
Those days are long gone, I’m afraid.
They also ruined the party system when they reduced it from 8 to 5.
But that is neither here nor underwear.
But they promised us we’d have 8-player parties in WvW and PvE areas in this patch!
Waaaaaaaaaaa!!!
No one is making you play a certain way. Dailies are the cookie jar at the top of the cupboard that should easily attained by those willing to branch out into other modes.
Right now, I have a buddy that only wants to WvW. I have another that only wants to PvE. I like all of the modes, but I’m mostly interested in PvP. This is a clever way of trying to convince the buddy who wants nothing to do with PvP/WvW to at least give it a shot.
It doesn’t have to be k/d per se. I was just citing that as an example. It could even just be the PvP scoreboard on a grander scale. The “B” scoreboard is alright, but a scoreboard like this would promote more longer WvW gameplay sessions, I think.
As for your other remarks: Not everyone zergs. Not everyone is in a guild. And if I wanted to play a FPS, I would play a FPS.
I’d love to be able to hold down ‘tab’ to see how everyone’s K\D ratio compares with each other in WvW. We wouldn’t have to necessarily see the enemy servers stats, but that could be interesting too.
Also, letting us right click on people to join their party would be epic, especially during down times/weird hours. It would be the ultimate LFG tool.
This is stuff that the player-base really wants.
So no, don’t expect it anytime soon.
Lmao. It’s funny cuz it’s true. And it’s true…cuz it’s funny.
There are GW2 players who claim they don’t like mounts. And they’re all like, “I don’t want mounts.” And when you think about it, they’re right. It’s like, “What are mounts? A definite solution to a problem?”
Oh, I’m walking. Click I’m on a mount. That does suck. It reminds me of that time I was hungry and I ate that food.
“Because I want it.” is good enough reason for me.
If you don’t like mounts, don’t use them.
Simple, really.
I was really hoping for some kind of feature that would allow for:
A.) The Guild Leader to see tiny blips of where everyone is on the entire map, without necessarily forming a party.
B.) Everyone else to see where the Guild Leader is at all times on the map. (again, regardless if you’re in his\her party or not)
That would definitely help alleviate some of the LFG issues.
Great contributions, everyone.

- Guild of the week (cheesy, but I loved it)
- The chk chk sound if that skill was recharging or you were out of energy.
Those are good ones, Silicon. I forgot all about:
- Being able to ping your build
- weapon swap bar
- customizable HUDs
If I could +5 you CowAbductionInc, I would.
For now, you’ll just have to settle for a +1
As an older gamer with friends who are married/divorced/have kids, I can speak to that. NPC’s were such a epic way to quick grab a buddy, stack up a couple heroes/henchmen, and slay some baddies before one of the kids started crying again. If I could somehow grab my buddies’ NPC while he goes AFK for a second, that would be AWESOME!
I think there are ways to limit it without exploiting the game. Maybe limit one NPC per person. Doing the simple math, for example:
1 person = 1 npc (yeah, I know there are pets for rangers and spirit weapons, but, meh)
2 people = 2 npcs
3 people = 3 npcs
and so on, until you cap it at eight “total” in your party.
I think you’re on to something, Nox.

+1 Hard mode!
I have seen that a lot of people miss ritualist\derv. I wouldn’t mind seeing someone else’s big scythe blur across my screen again.
Thank you, Skaan. If I ever make an MMO, I want you on my dev team!
(but if they allow eight-player parties, we wouldn’t need to make an MMO. Amirite?
)
(edited by hip.8435)
Nothing.
If I want Guild Wars, I play guild wars.
I can’t miss it, because it’s not gone.
I still play GW1 while I wait for them to bring eight-player parties back. The lag is just so…laggy. :\
This is Guild Wars 2. It’s a different game which has similar lore. It has its positives and its negatives.
I’m not complaining\worried about GW2 lore. I’d just like to see certain QoL features brought back.
(edited by hip.8435)
You’re right, Skaan. The devs seem to be moving in the right direction with the Megaserver System update.
If they brought eight-player parties back, that might be TOO much fun. I do miss that “crowded” feeling and “are all eight of us going to make it?”
