can you link your build Jenzie?
i’m willing to learn as much as possible
It’s a build made by Osicat. I just saw he changed his build the same as I did in version 2.0, from 2/4/6/2/0 to 0/6/6/2/0. You loose imobelize and vulnerabilty but gain precision and harmonius mantras (HM). HM together with Menders purity is soooo nice. I loose 2 conditions on every heal so a full heal drops 6 conditions.
In his new build ‘Osicat use Dire gear, I haven’t tried that with this build, might be nice but you loose some bleeds but gain a lot of hp. Will test after i written this.
Heres the link to Osicats builds.
http://osicat.weebly.com/traitsgear-guide.html
Napalm Cat 2.0 is the one. But I use it with full Rabid gear. Sometimes when I feel kitteny I drop the torch and bring a pistol for bleeds and stun, works too.
This build is good against 1-3 opponents, then it gets weak IMHO, the conditions are spread out on too many players. Camps take a while but are doable, I engage the boss and the others die from collateral.

I roam with a Modified version of the Napalm Cat build. 0/6/6/2/0 with harmonious mantras. I can take down multiple enemies with it, very resistant to condition dmg and melee. Thiefs hate it, the toughest enemy for me are engies.
It’s fun! Leveling my third now. I use sword/focus and gs. I group mobs with the focus #4 (there are tutorials on YouTube for that) drop #5 phantasm, blurred frenzy, if they still up hit gs #5. I mostly do www so maybe there are faster ways but I like it. Focus4 is also great for speed between events.
Go mesmers!
I used Napalm Cat just because I got so fed up with thiefs and warriors.
I never talked to you but, thank you for all the inspriation and great work you did for this community. I totally understand you leaving after this final mind stab from Anet.
Have fun!
When I leveled my second mesmer I used GS / Sword+Focus or Staff / Sword + Focus and max power and ferocity. Great AOE dmg and speed buff from focus is nice when moving between events, it is also awsome for grouping mobs together for AOE.
Best tip though is to keep you gear updated, get the best there is.
I dont think they need to remove it completly, it’s not like a car on service.
I still enjoy mesmering, just made my third mesmer last night! The bug that frustrates me most is the sword leap.
That little kittener looks so confused, sometimes it overcomes an obstacle (like an imaginary rock) and charges again and I get all excited.
In my mind I sometimes cheer for her “come on! you can do it little fella! Aaw a rock too bad, oh wait your at it again, thats the spirit” and there the timer ran out.
It’s like a mesmer intern, trying and trying but kittens up the most simple tasks.
This haven been debated many times, power wins over condition in PVE (25 stack limit etc).
There are a lot of mesmers with zerker gear waiting in line and some group wants a player that do the most damage possible for their class.
Other groups want to have a fun time and cares little about your build. I run full zerker in PVE but I avoid all groups who request zerker gear, minimum of AP’s or lvl since they tend to just be focused on finishing the dungeon asap and have little tolerance for error.
I often do story mode with noobs just to have fun and have a random experience and help people.
Realise your build is less effective, dont care about it, follow Maha’s suggestion and start your own groups saying like “All welcome” or “I run cond, got a problem with that?!”
Immobulus needs 250 x Giant Eye, they started at 2.5G last time I looked and there was 300 in total on the market = expensive kittener.
What is this, Theory Wars? Just use the kittening build, kill stuff and make a kittening video and post it already.
Edit: just saw Pyro requested the same. Please make a video, any result would be entertaining after all this reading.

My main is a human mesmer, now I’m leveling an Asura, only because they are smaller and harder for my opponents to see what the hell I am doing. Armor tend to look better the bigger they are though.
What do you like?
Weapon skills that gives stealth or could look like stealth:
Staff: Phase Retreat that creates a clone and teleports the mesmer away from the target.
Sword: Illusionary Leap, a clone leaps to the target, the mesmer can then switch places with the target and immobilize the target. This can be used with delay so the mesmer teleports where the target was 3 seconds ago, to work as a evade, could look like stealth.
Torch: The Prestige, Stealth+blind for 3 sec + AOE burning after 3 sec (can break stealth earlier).
The biggest reason to me would be the fact you can stack a lot of defensive stats going condi build. The margin for error is larger and it also allow you to take on more players at once and/or get away from a losing fight. The down side of-course is lack of spike damage.
I agree on that, it’s very forgiving but I feel there are spike possibilities. Maybe not as fast kittenter but I can stack a lot of kitten that sucks their health pretty fast. Its like a grip tightening on their throat and squeeze them dead.
I’ve played shatter and power phantasm too and like them also. Shatter was what I played before the patch. I felt that I wanted to give cond a try after the patch and it’s really fun. I can take on more enemies than before and all the torment makes runners easier to handle.
People also seem to hate condition, which is a reason for me to use it, irritation and frustration is a stronk weapon. The reason above all for condition: I hate thiefs, now they dont stand a chance, and I love it.
Edit: grammarz and why does shatter turn into Kittener on one occasion?! In the first sentence..

Hey guys. I was hoping to open up a discussion on Mesmers and condition damage, specifically why choose condition over power?
I have a couple of condition build ideas in mind but I’m so acclimated to using power builds that I have a hard time justifying trying them out, so I was hoping some of the condition Mesmers out there could share their experiences and give some reasons as to why they prefer running condition builds over power builds. The Prismatic Understanding (PU) trait doesn’t count for much here, as it works for both power and condition builds; though I do realize that when gearing for conditions you do stack significantly more toughness with Rabid armor.
Still.. If a condition build simply does less damage than a power build -considering cleanses, teamfights and all- for more survivability then what situations does it outshine power?
I’ve been using Napalm Cat for a while now and the beauty with cond dmg for me is that people tend to be looking for big dmg numbers as you do, so they seem to think I’m not doing any dmg at first. When all the conditions are up and they wasted their cleasning and burst they see whats going on and they try to run but then its too late.
For me cond dmg feels like a web that sticks on them from all angles and they tangle up and cant get away. i
I’m having a blast with Osicats Napalm build in spvp now, it works really good, hard to take down guardian bunker builds but thiefs, warrior, rangers.. most eles and engineers are doable. Other mesmers are fun too, especially power phantasm, all their phantams go up in flames
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/On-demand-burst-condi-Napalm-Cat
Be careful with the steath though, you don’t count as present in the capture rings (they called that? lol) when you are stealthed. On my weapons I use sigils of Smoldering instead of Sigil of Torment in spvp. Check out his build to see what I’m talking about.
Only down side is speed, your slow as a kitten.
Best I can tell, the PvP version would be this, correct? It doesn’t seem that Sigil of Torment is available for PvP, so I chose Sigil of Fire to synergize with Runes of Balthazar. This could be totally bad and there might be a better sigil to choose (if so, please help!).
I watched the vid, but I’m still very new to PvP. Can you give me an idea of how this is supposed to work? You’re supposed to shatter I’m guessing, but when and what kind (1-4)? I know it’s situational, but there must be a general strategy. Once I hear back from you, I’ll rewatch the vid a few times to make it sink in.
Seriously, ignore the end of game rankings. They actually mean nothing. There’s only 1 single indicator of your play. Did your team win or lose?
Now, not winning once means something, and it’s mostly that you’re a new player. I just remembered something you may want to look into. Check out the series ‘Sensotix goes solo queue’.
Cool, I found his thread here.
Am i correct in assuming that I should ignore the builds (age) and just focus on the strategy?
The sigil I use instead of Torment is called Sigil of Smoldering, adds 20% to burning duration.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAW7fl0npRt1qxMNcrRSpxY6cO6mTdFpCokjUOA-TJhAwAw2fgcZAAXEgNPBAA
My attack cycle is quite situational but the basic attack and the general idea is to get staff phantasms up first with phase retreat, dodge and the phantasm, they pump out conditions and will keep your victim(s) burning all the time. They add even more conditions if killed, usually no problem to keep three up all the time. When they are up, I throw in a staff#5 on top of my clones and victim, I usually wait with Chaos Armor since that gives you away to the enemy.
Then I switch to Torch, go stealth, depending on the situation I either wait a second or two or instantly go scepter 3, then close up, scepter 2 and get the block that gives torment (go up in their face in front of them, then its harder for them to spot it), about then the blast from Torch 4# should kick in and you can even drop a heal there, to trigger your Rune #6 but not necesary. Then switch back to staff and repeat. Remember to dodge and move behind the enemy alot with blink/phase retreat. Dont be afraid to disengage, move out and heal up, sometimes they dont even notice and keep fighting the phantams. Another fun thing if you have the cool is to stand still and just do staff attack, then they cant spot you
Can freak people out heh.
The build got really good survivability and sustained dmg. Remember that many builds are quite bursty, so I use stealth (not the Elite though, I use that for stealthing donwed team mates when I revive, unless it on a cap spot, then u need to be careful with stealth) and dodge quite frequently in the beginning to let them waste their “unf” and then they melt or run.
I also use the portal instead of the Stun signet, its so useful in pvp.
The classes that give me most problems are good Necros and some Eles and bunker guardians. Melee are usually a breeze. Some rangers can be a bit slow to kill, guess they got good regen.
You will get a lot of whining, especially from warriors and thiefs.

If you people feel you can’t be civil when responding to new players then please stop posting here, because it is getting really disgusting.Who are you again and what credibility do you have to post this?
Whoa we need credibility to post anets forum rules?
Jihm, I really feel for you, as a mesmer I feel the same about thiefs. Most guardians I meet are relativly easy to kill, however, there are some who know what I’m up to all the time and can down me ridiculously fast. Have tried you playing a mesmer in pvp?
I tried a 0/6/2/0/6 with staff/sc+p and torment runes/sigil (wv3) got 12 stacks of torment on a guard when testing, he melted. Rabid armor and some dire trinkets. Quite fragile but there is a lot of confusion and torment raining down. Guardians, warriors and Rangers are hilarious to fight now that they die when trying to run away. Think it could work with gs too for more bleeds. The three mantra thing is fantastic there too.
For insanse amount of condition cleansing the 2 points in chaos can be moved to inspiration for Menders Purity.
Edit: fixed to correct (new format) build numbers and menders purity idea.

Bah its just a lot of kittening whining mesmers as usual, my self included. There will be new builds soon. People are just crying cause their favourite toy is gone, eventually they’ll see all the new toys from Anet. It’s all good, just a game kitten .
haha that it seriously bad, but maybe it just for outfits? I didn’t notice it.
I tried this but with torch instead of scepter, I got serious “issues” with the scepter. Now I can see it shine though and really question my torch choice (TORCH?!). When i put the build together it all seemed so nice but when I played with it I just couldn’t get it rolling.
When I see you play it I’m smiling like an idiot, good to see someone who can play using it
Gotta give it another try with your version and guides.
Yet another awful night in WvW. With an Ascended weapon and 5 Ascended accessories, I can’t even make a credible effort at defeating most other classes.
I main a mesmer too, got about 5k AP, 118 wvwvw poins and I win about 50% of the fights in wvwvw. Ascended trinkets, exotic gear the rest.
I have a lot of fun in wvwvw roaming, I run both PU phantasm and 20/20/0/0/30 shatter. I prefer the shatter one latetly, cant not love that burst, even though I die a lot more.
- Rangers are 95% win in roaming, in 1vs1 they know their kitten so more like 50%.
- Necros in my rank are easy target, just spam dmg at ‘em and interrupt and it’s a win. Higher ranks kick my kitten at insane speeds though.
- Guardians, most in roaming have zerg spec so its too easy to win, 1vs1 specced are kitten, but rare to meet.
- Warriors, some/many builds are totally OP, I just leave. They used to be 100% win, now they aren’t.
- Engies, very fun fights, feels quite balanced between the professions.
- Eles, good ones are hard, but can be fun fights.
- Thiefs, I’d say 50/50 chance of winning, some build are difficult.
To me it feels quite balanced, I’m no pro but no noob either, I win some but loose some. The only professsion that feels to OP atm is warrior, but I can see the nerf hammer dangling over their head
What I learned when roaming is to chill the kitten down. Go in, burst, GTFO, back in, burst, repeat. I used to be more aggressive and had big problems with many classses, more defensive and controlled aggression payed off.
If you’re on a EU server, send me a PM if you wanna go roaming and share ideas.
wow very impressive for a beginner, makes me wanna go shatter again. I always felt GS was too slow too, gonna try your weapon setup.
There are male butterflies. They don’t consider themselves feminine or effeminate. And pink used to be considered a masculine color until about the turn of the century while blue was a feminine color. http://forgottenhistoryblog.com/pink-wasnt-always-considered-a-feminine-color-and-blue-wasnt-always-masculine/
In other words what a culture thinks is feminine or masculine is arbitrary and can turn on a dime and reverse itself.
This.
I’m interested in practices against mesmers and other classes as well. I still find other mesmers hardest to fight though.
Maybe we could we have themed practices, like “How to fight a necro” with demos by you more experienced and bring in some bad kitten necros to fight against that could give pro-tips?
1. Ranger
2. Ranger
3. Ranger
I got one, dont play it. When I’m on my mesmer and kill a ranger I dont even stomp, just /bow and leave them, sad little kitten lovers.
It’s pretty kittened up they keep changing the mesmer skills and not fix the bugs.
Imagine if it was a car.
-“Hey my steering doesnt work, sort of locks up in uneven terrain”
-“Ah ok, we’ll have a look, come back in a week”
A week later.
-“Hi, my car done?”
-“Yeah dude, totally. We changed all tyres, extended it a good meter, gold plated the mirrors and.. hmm what else..”
-“The steering?”
-“Uhm.. no but ah yes, we repainted it for you, a color called Sylvester, what a name huh?, cost a fortune though, cash or credit?”
I started a new mesmer (well from lvl 20) and I went full power first, then precision, gear was full power too. All full power! I use staff and sw/focus and gs + sw/focus.
First I run and aggro a large group, then drop chaos field, iwarden and blurred frenzy on top. They all go down like butter. With GS I drop izerker first then warden/blurred.
And a nice sigil to go with that is Sigil of Speed? not sure on the name, gives swiftness after a kill, its awesome when grinding enemies with that 100%xp-kill-stuff-within-30sec, its cheap too.
Join the forum guild [OMFG] Online Mesmer Forum Guild, its ingame and ask there. There are a lot of tutors there that probably can help you get into the game again.
I’ve played all kind of weapon setups and armor mixings in PVE and no one ever complains about any choices. What I wanted to say with that is that you can choose less difficult weapons if you find it tough to survive. Skip the close combat weapons like sword until you can handle it. Also as Pyro says, try some more forgivning armor, going full glas cannon is a tough way to start you career.
I think you teammates rather see less dps than revive you all the time, that steals more dps.
Also, get some food / runes with health regen and the new heal signet.
Can you please please please record this fight so we can have a look?
Potential Boringly Mature Person Detected, please be advised that this thread might be hilarious.
They should colour their armor the same and name themself very similar names and confuse people to death.
Yes! thank you a million for this! Just decided to drop the PU phantasm kitten and play like a real mesmer. Was a bit more difficult than I anticipated and I’ve been humiliated by scouts and assaulters in wvwvw all kittening night long. kitten them though. Its very rewarding when those shatters sits there like they should even though I’m struggling with that.
Hi,
I see all these country specific servers and started thinking that maybe a Nordic server would be kittening awesome. I live in Sweden myself and I’d love to kick some spanish/german kitten with my fellow viking brothers and sisters.
Please make a Nordic server.
+1 Upside Down Purple Unicorn
I think you need to be admin in a guild to be able to be able to play around with emblems.
Can we have a emblem of someone kittening a god? (as in Oh My kittening God) Any kittenuing illustrations in the emblem builder?
Edit: Yes I know OMFG stands for Official Mesmer Forum Guild

Nice! I’ve never tried shatter mesmer, got stuck with phantasms. I think I’ll give shatter mesmer a chance tonight. What build are you running?
I agree with Xavi, you should really level up your mesmer before deciding.
But have you looked at Engineer? I got a lvl50 engineer I level when I get bored with my mesmer, there you can use rifle, pistol/pistol, pistol/shield and medium armor that can look a bit more “hard” than clothes. All the kits can be confusing at start but the profession seem to have possibility for many different builds. They are very fun to play too and dual pistols look pretty awesome
Ele’s? I think D/D eles are hard, I got one-shotted by one the other day :/ after an ambush (had full berzerker though), stun/stun/moa works good on them though but other ways are appriciated
I think guardians are hilarious to play with they dont do any damage just heal heal heal dead! Sometimes I don’t stomp them because I feel sorry for them. I had a run in wvwvw with 9 guardians in a row, one put up a little resistance, none of them ran away which they deserve a medal for.
Agree with necros being toughest.
If you dont like illusions or phantasms I dont think mesmers is a path for you. You can run without them but it will limit your range of builds to run.
The low hp on a mesmer is countered with active defences, you have to activly protect yourself with stealth, blocks, chaos armor, blurred frenzy, F4 (whatever its called), phase retreat, blink etc. As you can see the defensive capabilites with a mesmer are quite many and adding a large haelthpool to that would be nice but all the other kids would freak out and kill Anet.
As with dmg, it isnt INSTANT as when you swing a sword. As a mesmer you prepare your attack and then burst it either with blowing up your illusions, syncing with your phantasms or slamming conditions all over the place. This need practice, a lot and isnt easy to pull off. Thats also what makes us strong, it can be hard to predict our burst and one of the most annoying professions to meet. I really HATE fighting mesmers, they’re all over the place and then you’re dead all of a sudden.
AOE dmg is not our best friend clones and phantasms die instantly, maybe thats why a lot of mesmers seem to be roaming more than zerging.
Dont know if that helped you, I only do roaming in wvwvw so I cant really tell about support capabilities.
Your question in the top isnt really a question..
Hey GS is nice though!
Berzerker just hits so kittening hard and it’s so nice to have a ranged weapon, I played a ranger before so maybe that’s why.
Another pro-GS argument is AOE, if you’re up against ONE opponent pistol is great, but when there are two maybe the GS starts to shine a little bit again. I’ve taken down two and even three opponents with a GS/staff build because it can put a lot of pressure on all of them thanks to berzerker. And in WvWvW you occasionally run into several opponents.
Also, the pistol phantasm makes a lot of noice, so he’s easy to block for opponents if they know what they’re doing, the zerker just hits like a silent train and when not active he just stands there looking weak, like the sword is too heavy to lift.
One of the great joys in life is to see a stressed thief stumbling out of a perfectly placed chaos field swearing, with 20% health and then TOOOT-TOOOT! there comes the 5-O-clock zerker train! I can almost hear them slam the keyboard shouting NEEEERF!!
In game name: Ultra von Super
Home server: Gandara (EU)
Playstyle: sPVP and WvWvW mostly, occasionally PVE events.
Role: Tester (i’m a drunk buildaholic with too many sets of gear)
Time: Tuesdays 20.00-02.00 and occasionally other days/nights.
I hated thiefs before but now they’re kind of fun to fight. I also hated mesmers, that’s why I play one now, but that’s another story.
Anyway, as Dawdler said, you gotta get your toughness up and drop the focus, get a pistol or a sword with decent phantasms.
Thieves are quite fragile and don’t like to hang around, they want to burst you down and gtfo. With toughness, reflexes and some hide and seek you’ll be ok. Doing the block with scepter to avoid a thiefs initial hit is hard I think, just take the hit in the face like a mesmer and hit back. A bit like Rocky vs Drago but Drago is stealthed and got knifes and kitten.
this is how I do it: If I know there is a thief around I just wait for their initial attack, and slam Staff #2 asap. Then I get my phantasms up as fast as I can while I’m dodging his attacks, he will disappear pretty soon and build up for a new attack cycle but in the next cycle hopefully two of my phantasms will be standing there waiting for him (I try to drop the phantasms far from each other if possible, try to make a circle and put myself as a bait in the middle). In the next cycle I try to snare him or stun with the stun signet or pistol #5.
Also what I’ve learned recently in general when playing a mesmer is to retreat, get the phantasms up, sneak out and hide behind something, then back in, move around A LOT, far away, back in. I run a 20/20/30/0/0 and with 2 stealths and high toughness I can troll them around pretty good. It is still a hard fight where i probably do 50/50 in wins but it is a fight not just a burst->dead.
I change it around all the time and switch weapons too, sometimes it’s sw/p & GS
(edited by jenzie.4083)
/yes [Character] agrees. [Character] agrees with [Target].
tried it in pve with 20-20-30-0-0 getting double most of the times but not always.
