Balance the professions. You’ll be dealing with 4 birds with the one stone:
- Less people will complain about class stacking
- Less people will complain about snowball matches
- Less people will complain about profession imbalance
- Less people will complain about their profession being neglected
It’s win/win for you.
I figured updrafts was your plan for getting back up after you fall.
Well no. It didn’t happen in 30 seconds because you had to master updraft and then lean techniques. And you didn’t have to learn getting longbow shot off the side of a building.
@ ROC I said at the start the start of the thread the ability to get knocked off the edge of the map is funny. You know it’s your own fault for getting too close to the edge. And I asked for no railings, and no change to instant death on the map edge. The abuse is specifically refering to the holes where mesmer can easily pull you into them, or skyhammer platform where you can get feared off by warriors. Their fear is unblockable, disables all your skills and lasts for 3 seconds. On that small platform you can be in the center and get feared off and there’s no way to avoid it.
Add gliders. Problem solved
They can’t because people who don’t have HoT won’t have them.
I mean, that’s not REALLY an excuse. Could just have them exclusively on for sky hammer for all players.
The wings still need some practice to get the hang of them. If people can’t use the jump pads I doubt they would pick up gliding from the odd game of skyhammer if they happen to get knocked off. It’s just a bad idea.
Evan don’t you have league profession statistics? Something that shows if you are an ele you are more likely to be at the top of the league and if you are a warrior you are more likely to be at the bottom.
You mean you are conceding defeat because you couldn’t comprehend what Evan said or couldn’t come up with a solution to getting around the barriers he presented to you to solving your problem.

It’s because certain classes are stronger. They seem to get matched up together even in solo teams. Fix profession imbalance and it won’t happen so much.
When the score is 490 to 490 everyone is putting in their best effort to win. It’s competitive. When it’s 490 to 10 half the team has already given up.
Yeh you go into a match that’s predicted to lose and feel like you shouldn’t bother. Going up a tier requires 3-4 wins in a row and the games are more like snowball 2 games then get snowballed 2 games. You can’t progress unless you play over and over till you get a lucky break.
I think the skyhammer is fine. It just does a bit too much damage over too big area so you have to go to kill whoever is on it. If a dragonhunter has trapped the door you die getting in or a warrior fears you off the platform. If we can get in to kill whoever is on the skyhammer it’s playable.
What Evan is saying is they peed off everyone else to make you happy. But you miserable kittens are never happy. Maybe you could have a psychotherapy vendor in HotM.
A problem for you and nine people.. Yeah we’ll get right on that.
I’m laughing you’re salty ;_;
So pro players who don’t want to play with scrubs have to make a new account and play scrubs to even get a match or go to unranked and play with scrubs. This thread is karma in action. Good stuff.

Unranked is a casual game. The gimmicks make it different and fun. You can go in and test a build and there’s no major gain or loss from winning or losing. This thread doesn’t seem to be suggesting it will ever be a ranked game. Relax people.
If you like the knockback/pull/fear abuse on the skyhammer platform or holes (that destroys the enjoyment of the game as a pvp battle) you either haven’t been in a game with warriors and mesmers or you are one of the perpetrators. Or you are a glutton for punishment.
@ Trevor – I have to say you can make a post interesting to read. Well thought out.
But unranked is for everyone. It’s not really a place for highly competitive teams to stomp people who have just joined gw. Seriously. You’d be suprised how hard spear of justice is to avoid. So like mesmers tend to do I could just camp on the hole and pull newbies into it all day. What would be the point of that? And what you are saying about the map being counter to rotation strategy. I’ve never found that and the map seems like the most rotated map in the game and least prone to zerging. (Hmm.. size does matter and I thought bigger maps would be better) All the points get constantly decapped.
I’m guessing from what you are saying you like go into skyhammer full military style and smack the kitten out of teams that include people trying to figure out keyboard turning. That’s pretty crazy stuff.
The problem with using the jump pads is if you hold run it pushes you too far forward and you hit the thing you are trying to jump onto. The trick is to run onto the pad, stop running and push forward after the jump. It’s the same as the jump pads in not-so-secret jp and I think dragonball is the same too. I guess what people want is a fail safe jump pad that requires no technique to use them. If you have never done not-so-secret you might not have the foundation to figure it out easily.
Oh for larger characters yeh the camera would be a problem. Like in Khylo the tunnel under the clocktower is fine for a human but on my norm I can’t see a thing in a fight.
Let’s do a quick recap:
- Remove/adjust the breakable panels at A and C point or Add second layer under the hole so players dont die, but still lose time for falling into them
Ok
- Which do you like better?
Yes.
- What do we think about this suggestion?
Sounds good. No holes up there. What is a line of sight prop?
- Add multiple portals to get to and from the skyhammer platform
- Does this have to be in both places: in center of map and skyhammer platform or just the skyhammer platform?
Irrelevant really. The point is to not have one entrance that can be trapped. Different entry point locations. All in the middle. Or 1 entry that takes you to a random exit point.
- Adjust the jump pads
Don’t agree but concensus seems to think so.
- Take away the ability to die from falling damage
Don’t agree.
- Do we want to completely remove the ability to die from falling damage or make it only in very specific places?
I’d prefer this regarding the holes around A and C. You can’t die there. And remove the railing you put up around the edge of the map. You often get into fights off point near A and C because of the map design. It’s hard to knock someone off there but it is possible if you aren’t paying attention. It adds an interesting dynamic.
- Adjust middle point high ground
Don’t agree. I think mid is fine.
- Do we want to completely remove this because of gameplay/camera problems or adjust it as it creates good gameplay but messes with camera
It’s never been a problem I don’t know what that guy was talking about. Maybe it’s something to do with personal playstyle.
- Secondary Mechanic Adjustment
- Reduce Damage
Yes and the area of damage is huge.
- Increase Cooldown
No it’s slow to use
- Reduce the turn speed
No it’s slow to use
- Remove Skyhammer from Unranked
Not if it’s fixed.
- Do we think the map simply can’t be altered to stay in Unranked?
Nope. More maps the better.
Almost all classes now have access to some sort of push or pull to knock people off so I don’t see a problem there.
You already added more “railings” so there is less chance of getting knocked off everywhere.
I don’t see the problem with this map and why people hate it. I think it’s fun and having the hammer there is no different than beasts/trebs/lords/etc.
The only thing I might change is adding a second way to get to the hammer. While I love trapping/marking up the door it does feel cheap.
The map is widely hated because of abuse. Every profession can pull or knock back and it has occured to everyone they can win just by pulling people into holes. They aren’t stupid. However for some people that wouldn’t be a satisfactory win because it’s using a cheap tactic like you described traps. Instead of having an enjoyable fight i’ll just instantly kill you. I’d say more people wouldn’t play like that than there are people who would. It’s sad because I like the challenge of fighting in a small area and trying to avoid running or dodging into the holes. There’s no choice but to get rid of them.
I haven’t played unranked in a while so I haven’t seen the railings they put up. From past experience during ranked there’s too many premades wanting to stomp in unranked. I’ll have to have a look.
The obstructions at mid provide a shelter and you can stand up above mid and shoot down. Once this condi ranger trapper wouldn’t let me get near mid and used the pillars for protection. So I hopped up behind him and he didn’t know where I was shooting him from. The jump pads require a little practice on the players behave on how to use them properly.
Around the map is not so bad for falling. It’s kind of funny and you know it’s largely your own fault for getting that close to the edge. When you and the opponent fall off it’s even funnier. You’d never want it in ranked tho.
You can’t have a teleport to the skyhammer. A DH can trap the doorway so it’s instant death. You have to close off skyhammer so you can’t get pulled or feared off. That’s just too abusable by certain professions. The skyhammer should do a little less damage and less area making it not so game changing.
The holes shouldn’t open when someone is pulled onto them as that is just abusable by certain professions.
I mean take a look at the professions – revs, scrappers, eles, mesmers and reapers are considered meta. Meta will consist of 5 profs if we are taking no-class stacking perspective, simply not room for more. Out of the remaining 4 classes – Druids are in a good spot and can compete with eles for support. A well-played DH is contestant for sure , you can do a lot for the team. That leaves thieves and warriors. A good thief is great for shifting the fight in your teams favour – making those 1v1s into 1v2, 2v2 into 2v3 and so on, and they retain the status of the most mobile profession . And I mean at least the way I see it thieves shouldn’t be frontier fighters, goes against proffesion fantasy. And that only leaves warriors, who once again can do well with a decent build and skill. So what is exactly would you want to happen, since most if not all classes offer viable options? Do you simply want the current meta to turn into wet noodles with no sustain or damage out of spite?
Eles/reaper/scrapper/revs just need to be toned down a bit. Your post is reductio ad absurdum.
However I have seen thieves sans stealth thinking they are warriors and fighting melee.
It’s funny.
@ Brannigan – I never had a loss streak last season. If you had a 20 game loss streak in a comp that tried to create 50% winrate then it would be more about your playstyle.
You main a revenant and don’t like people complaining about profession imbalance. There trolling.
And eles didn’t slip your mind because you mentioned other professions in the context of my post about eles being unkillable.
It’s draining when you are put onto lower MMR teams and constantly trying to get the most out of your profession against a team with higher MMR and stronger profession and class stacking. Let’s say reapers conditions did less damage and scrappers and eles had much less defence. Now we will give DH reflect on shield of courage and 2 seconds longer and focus 5 reflect and better heals. Now dragonhunter would be OP. Would I be saying that it is mentally draining to play? Would other professions be saying that? It doesn’t take a genius to follow this conversation.
(edited by jessiestiles.9437)
You ignored ele too. The conversation being eles are unkillable 1v1. You didn’t mention eles are killable. So you agree with that. No one said revs/scrapper/reaper are unkillable. But it is clear they have an advantage over other professions. DH are average and warrior and thief are in a really bad state. You can do a lot with these but it’s mentally draining to play game after game against decent players with a much stronger profession. You can’t understand that if you haven’t done it.
It is also clear you play one of these stronger professions and your post is just trolling.
Thanks for your input.. care of the revenant/necro foundation.
I am Ranger and this is NOT my story.
I am Warrior and this is NOT my story.
I am Thief and this is NOT my story.
I am Dragonhunter and this is NOT my story.
I am Ele and this is MY story.
I am Revenant and this is MY story.
I am Condi Reaper and this is MY story.
I am Scrapper and this is MY story.
I actually had some positive things to say about last season’s matchmaking while everyone complained about it. Premades weren’t that common compared to unranked. Scores greater than 450 happened a third of the time, 300+ a third of the time and less than 100 score was about 10%. This season there you rarely play premades in soloq which is good and less than 100 score games are far more common.
And if you think about it if you are an ele you have a 100% greater chance of having another ele on your team than everyone else. Same for scrapper/reaper/rev. So the chances of a particular profession having a higher mmr and being teamed up together is far greater. So a warrior or thief has a 100% greater chance of having another warrior or theif on their team and being on the lower MMR team. Which is pretty much how a lot of my games have played out. You do see a lot of favored profession class stacking which the complaints on the forum attest to. And unfavored profession class stacking. If I see 2 eles on the other team it’s pretty much game over. If there’s two on my team I know the game is in the bag. This is a result of class based MMR rather than skill based MMR.
I’d guess that most people who are happy with the system do play a favored profession.
I don’t feel sorry for them. Even pre HoT they were OP. In WvW an eles aoes were more powerful than a power ranger focusing 1 person. And you can’t nerf revs/scrapper/reaper and leave eles unkillable. I’d be happy if they became average like druids and dragonhunters and die repeatedly as they realise their superiority is not skill based.
This season I had long lose streak, long win streak, long win-lose cycle, long winstreak, long lose streak, long win lose-cycle. Only the win-lose cycles are not total blow outs but blow outs still occur about as much as last season.
I read a lot of threads and didn’t see anyone post their build. None of them compared themselves to pros either. Some did have low winrate and games played while many didn’t. It’s not entirely true what you are saying there.
No one wanted bunker meta. So why leave one build that is bunker meta? Before HoT there were bunkers with no power and they were harder to kill but you could kill them. Druids are bunker but you can still kill them. With eles you have to move to a different point or waste time trying to kill them. It’s just wrong. Do you have an ele? Or you play on premade teams with eles? I’m wondering why you didn’t mention eles.
There’s been loads of people complaining about blowouts. As you just have too. Last season blowouts were far less regular.
People posted a screenshot of their matches and you could see their builds? Err.. you mean you could see the profession they were using? Which you agree profession imbalance is a problem. Although you skipped Ele which is probably the worst culprit for imbalance as they are still practically bunker meta. Any profession you fight 1v1 someone will die except ele. You could fight them all game with a glass cannon and they won’t die because they have too much healing and damage mitigation. You won’t die either because they don’t have any power.
If you are high dps stand next to an ele they will keep healing you and stun the other team in place while you kill them.
That’s so true. That doesn’t mean you won’t be still stuck on a low MMR team. You are performing great and still placed on a predicted to lose team.
I got to diamond tier 7 but then got a huge loss steak and I am now back on tier 4, that doesn’t mean matchmaking is rigged, bugged, broken or whatever you want to call it though, loss streaks are just something that will happen to everyone occasionally.
If I put you on a team with people that were losing against a team with people that were winning and did this repeatedly. Would that mean it was rigged? Unless you are living under a rock you’d know this is what is happening. You got to diamond you think by skill and just can’t believe that’s not the case. It can’t be rigged it just can’t!
Not being facetious but there are some things you may not have considered:
1. Don’t mass annoy players.
2. Communicate when there are major changes that affect a lot of people.
3. Don’t favor specific professions.. What’s smarter for someone to learn a new profession they aren’t comfortable with or to stick with the professions they know and for Anet fix to the problem?
4. Don’t lie, or give ambiguous or misleading information. This isn’t good for your brand.
5. Don’t treat your players like they are a joke and don’t admit to it. Hugh told us some of the offices jokes.
Let me just refer you to this post.. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/TheLordHelseth-on-how-to-carry-SoloQ/first#post6023658
No the whole reason i play druid is I’m good at kiting. Warhorn speed boost staff 3 I’m out of everyone’s reach. They weren’t amatuer and had speed on and chased me. With chill I didn’t have a chance. That’s OP.
There was a reaper alone at far, and I was on my healing druid, who immediately put 10 stacks of poison on me, chill and other conditions in about 2 seconds and I couldn’t heal, couldn’t use celestial avatar and was dead in about 10 seconds. Then again after respawn. That’s when I realised what people were saying here.
I was wrong about necros not needing a nerf. I hadn’t played any that could down you so quick when I posted here.
You wasted a post on semantics. “Anyone who can’t get out of amber and emerald this season can’t get it.” Happy?
Let’s both delete these posts because they are a waste of cyberspace.
(edited by jessiestiles.9437)
It’s not pessimism it’s a realistic possibility based on how events have played out so far. They said we all will get it. Anyone who can’t get out of amber and emerald this season will not get it. There’s proof they lied. If they plan a system next season to make it harder to advance that’s another group of people who will never get it. They can’t be trusted.
Don’t get to ruby this season.. If they are going to start people in higher divisions next season you’ll have to stay low and tank your mmr so you don’t have to get to diamond or something stupid to get your wings next season. Or, better yet, just cut your loses and accept anet are liars and will design the system to prevent you getting it either next season or season 4.
Maybe we could all focus on the devs getting a really bad case of constipation.. like for a couple of weeks, you know like a collective consciousness type thing and we can make it happen. Then they can experience the system from our perspective.

Most of my games seem to be decided on which team has eles. Why isn’t there any balance updates mid season?
A survey on the forums would accomplish nothing, all the crybabies will just flock to it to spam anet hate, while a majority of players would never even see it.
The in game survey with a small reward attatched is actually a really good idea for getting (somewhat) acurate results.
As it stands you could post a survey on this forum asking about peoples opinion on a portion of the game proven to be widely liked/successful and 90% of the responses would be negative anet hate speech, 5% would be legit responses, and the other 5% would be people claiming the positive responses are “white knights” or saying “how much did anet pay you to say that”
+1 Seething condemnation complete with accurate and verifiable research.
Your comment is not objective. Are you talking about amber or are you talking about saphire or ruby? I can only speak of the division I am currently in (saphire) and the skill of the players varies greatly. A person on the forum posted a comment today about the variation of skill in ruby and diamond.
So i’d guess you are just talking out the side of your kitten right?
Yes he complained later also.
But we are talking about an actual video he posted at the start of the season in tier 2 emerald and he couldn’t go up a single tier after hours of playing. Everyone was in the same boat struggling and teams were not all pros. That’s part of what they complained about. Low and average skill players advanced along side pros “because of the matchmaking”. It wasn’t designed to sort people into divisions.
This season they are happy because they didn’t have to struggle. Their games were stacked so the lower division player took all the grind. And they use bs arguments like this to blame the lower division players for their grind.
It’s like the old royalty arguments. I can prove God wants me to be king because I am king. You are not king therefore you are a peasant.
