Now… would you wait with your team 15 minutes in prime-time for a match? If you would, would all your partners do the same?
And when you do get a match the teams would likely be so unbalanced its won/lost before it’s started.
If they are brand new to pvp they shouldn’t be playing with you in the first place. Which wouldn’t of happened if the devs didn’t cater to the new and casual player hate that lead to the mass exodus of 2016 and bringing about the age of the smurfs.
If someone defends all match they will get top defense. But if you play the whole map getting 20%-30% in offense, defense, damage, kills, healing, revives and 10% deaths you often end up with no awards. There should be a top all round player award.
] but they may look at a soft limit hopefully that starts at 1 per team and has a big threshold before expanding the limit.
But balancing teams mmr and finding 5 non-duplicate professions adds complication to the matchmaker.. Balance would have to take priority meaning you’ll be stuck with or against stacked teams.
What an awesome idea! Make it default and it would eliminate toxic behavior. You suck a** becomes “you rule legend!” Noobs becomes “I’m so sweet and hugable my friends!”
To remove class stacking, You would logically have to lock professions. I’m not sure why people are not seeing that.
Now, I realize that anet may not yet perceive the need to remove stacking. A couple of weeks of solid DH matches might make that clear to them though.
Like me people might assume that reason for profession lock is anti-stacking. The poll was misleading.
Adding to the stacking problem: double mesmer and double engi vs 5 moas. Or when they do stupid stuff like make warriors able to bunker and do high damage while standing on point (dh ranger and ele can’t do that) and then put 2 warriors on one team and the other team gets none.
Changed my vote to no. Profession lock would be great if there’s no profession stacking. Otherwise its a stupid idea.
eta: worse if they allow premades as the person below me said.

Ten matches in unranked and the losing team never got above 300. gg anet.
Sending 5 to a point all the time is never an effective strategy at any level of play. You sound like a disgruntled thief, elementalist or mesmer. I don’t know if any of the claims you made about pre-change Khylo are true anyway.
I didn’t say all the time. How it works is on a shorter map you send 5 players to mid wipe out whoever is there with a short route to the next point wiping it and so on. Coliseum is the worst map for doing this as others have confirmed. Capricorn and Kyhlo were the best at discouraging this. At least if theres dh and war who can’t port up the tower it’s not going to happen.
I can only play heavy or medium classes because I live on the other side of the world from the server. Thief mes and ele require fast response times. My post had nothing to do with some imagined advantage the jumping puzzle gave me. Infact the better solution is to go back to the original map and make the jumping puzzle longer. If it gives so much of an advantage – lessen the advantage. Instead of ripping the map apart.
This map and capricorn were two of the best for discouraging zerging. Zerging is the least fun and creative way of playing. They don’t send 4 or 5 of their team to one point in the proleague games i’ve seen played. If I wanted to do that I could just go do the world boss train. Zerging contributes to poor matches and blowout rate.
Ok so someone complained that the matches are longer on those two maps because you have to actually think to win. So you destroy both the maps. And the mini clock tower looks like a 5yo did it.
If you are going to mess with maps at least put some thought into it.
I like Coliseum but the geometry is off. The distance between mid and side points is much shorter than spawn to home. It’s probably about 50% shorter or more. A team can run as a blob between the points and win by numbers rather than strategy or thought. Maybe the spawn location needs changing. Perhaps add a ramp on the right side of the platform between spawn and home point. Then you can run in more of a straight line to home. The path to mid has a giant obstacle you need to run around to get there from spawn. Don’t even know what that is. I guess making a longer route is to slow the game down a bit. If you can’t make the distance from spawn shorter for that reason the other option is to make the path between mid and sides further.
8. Disagree. The matchmaker already tries to match players of similar rating, but with low population in off-hours, you can’t have players wait forever. Your boosting change affects nothing as players who want to boost will just make an alt account where they intentionally lose games before they boost.
A year ago balance was better in solo q offpeak because peak times you’d get an endless string of premades. So either roster padding isn’t necessary or there are a lot less people playing. Also a year ago rating adjustments between games was insignificant which would make smurfing less rewarding. You’d have to play a lot of matches to effect your rating. There was a lot of creative thought put into the matchmaking system and it achieves several aims. Granted. But the cost is poor quality games so it’s currently a failure.
(edited by jessiestiles.9437)
8) Limit matchmaking to a certain range. 2200 should not play with 1600. Longer queue times are acceptable. Decay and volatility has been worked out which is great. Decay must go further than -700. Duo Q can stay or go, I won’t advocate any in this topic as I made another one to focus on that but there needs to be a vote. If Duo Q does stay, it should count both players as the higher player’s MMR. Right now it takes the average so a good player on a smurf can help his buddy by getting them easier matchups.
Reducing “match quality”, in other words “poor quality”, might seem the only solution for devs to reducing queue times. However under the old system both were fine. Need to reconsider what “match quality” actually means. Unless there is significantly less players in less than a year.
I thought it was the same video he made at the end of last season. The first one was better.
Changes to the matchmaking system has made blowout matches more or less frequent. Evan has said this is unintended and that his aim is to minimise blowouts with the mm algorithm. They will always exist but the rate of blowouts is absolutely affected by matchmaking.
Anyone else getting those weird loss/win streaks? e.g. I dropped down from gold 2 to silver 3 after losing 8 games in a row. Every game was kinda jinxed, like whats the chances to get a dc in 3 out of 8 games in my team? Lost everytime rating though since the dc was “only” for about 2 minutes. Then there was the issue with classstacking, like 3 dh in enemy team and 3 necros in my team (ofc noone rerolled).
Well I´m climbing back right now, but its really frustrating to lose rating cause of random kitten that happens.
Yep. I did my placement matches earlier in the season (won 4/10) and was put in first tier bronze.
A few days later picked up where started in bronze and won exactly half of 10-20 games, and went up to 1250 rating. One more game and I’m gold. Woo! I can’t remember if they were blowouts or not but it seemed the matchmaker was working fairly well. Then I suddenly lost 5 games that were doomed out of the starting gate. People afking or running around off point for no apparent reason like they were lost. The opposing teams were clearly on the ball. Back to first tier bronze in 5 games – down to 375 rating. That’s my brief but complete experience with this season as it abruptly lost its appeal after that.
I don’t think chak, balthazar and gauno were intended to be soloed. I couldn’t when I tried. For the other ones if you aren’t on your main and don’t have the right gear, not all your characters will do, you won’t be able to do it in the time limit. Some aren’t easy to get to so you’ll be waiting around a while for other people to show up.
Trecherous paths and quetzal aren’t easy to solo without good survivability and stealth detection for tp.
The worst are gauno, no one will ever show up until after the meta at night, and chak in auric basin. I’d say chak is the most annoying of all. You can stand around there for a long time without anyone turning up. From memory I think I tried the one in ogre lane too but couldnt do it in the time limit.

Tangled depths is the worst. There’s so many wandering mobs. So before you’ve killed a mob 2 more turn up. Then 2 more. They keep multiplying until you are dead. So there’s no point to many of these mobs all over the map you just have to past them. Then you can’t even find somewhere to take a bathroom break without dying to roaming mobs before you get back. Most of the map I’m lost and see an event but don’t even know how to get there and if I do it’s over. I leave feeling nauseated by the whole experience and wanting to never go back until I need more leyline crystals. The map feels poorly designed.
The other maps are really look amazing and fun to play except when you are trying to unlock elites. You are constantly waiting for things. There’s a door you can’t open until an hour long meta occurs, or theres a hero point you cant do unless someone turns up. Waiting sucks. Even though I enjoy the maps and have unlocked elites on a few characters it’s still a miserable process to go through.
6) There will be matchmaking changes that strike a balance between season 1 and 2.
So season 3 will be another smurf fest? Have you given up any hope of increasing the pvp population with new players? Considering most of the forum have admitted to having multiple accounts, being smurfed over and over won’t attract anyone.
Also how will this affect matches outside of primetime?
This is what I’ve been trying to say, but you say it better. Why do they listen to the few people talking on forums using more than 1 account to talk on here also just to make it look like a lot more people than it actually is and give them everything they ask for while destroying a lot of other people’s gaming experience. And considering how much better pvp was in the beginning compared to now I’d say it’s been going on for quite some time. If you guys want a REAL idea of what people want why not do an in game poll/survey type thing. Not many people go to forums and such. And when most people get upset over changes that cause them to no longer enjoy the game they don’t complain about it they just quit and find something better to do.
They did listen. Which is why they are trying to appear like they are trying to compromise, but I think they’re out of touch. People are reluctant to PvP because it can be stressful for a number of reasons. This is compounded because depending on the time of day you can be matched up with premades over and over who just want to farm pugs. So they make these improvements to attract people then ignore the reason why someone would want to do it in the first place. Surveys would probably help.
There were loads of people complaining about matchmaking at the start of the season. Not to upset anyone, of course, just to express their opinion. The response was “the problem doesn’t exist. you suck trashy noob”. I haven’t seen a lot of them post for weeks. So you’re right there is a niche voice on the forum.
Also some of the devs are former pro players and are still thick as thieves. That’s another conflict of interest.
The first person they took down is a druid in 1 second from stealth. Interrupt without leaving stealth and down before the interrupt is over. You can’t dodge something you can’t see coming. A thief couldn’t do that and even though they countered druids well it’s easy for a druid to kill a thief. Example with Sindrenner taking so long to 2v1 a druid. The OP downed a rev in 1 second then 30 seconds later spawn trapped them and down again in 1 second. Downed an ele in 1 second. Downed a mes in 1 second. I reiterate better than a thief.
He saved us the trouble. There’s not one down like are describing. Having to position directly behind someone for backstab slows him down, doesn’t take off full health and leaves him vulnerable. All of which the OP doesn’t need to worry about. If you can’t have good map presence with portal there’s something wrong. Mesmer better at thief than a thief.
You linked to a pre-HOT video of the celestial meta days — power shatter mesmers weren’t even considered viable then by ESL players (I think the only two ESL players who ran mesmer back then were Helseth and Frostball), while every team still had at least one thief.
Here’s his current gameplay: <http://twitch.tv/sindrenerr/>. He 1-shots the same classes that the OP’s build would one-shot, namely other squishies.
It’s pretty crazy that you think a core F2P power-mantra-shatter zerker-amulet YOLO build is what carried the OP to legend. The more plausible explanation is some combination of OP playing well, and his opponents being poor because it was late-season so almost all the good players had already made legend.
I didn’t watch 3 hours of it but I still didn’t see him one shotting people in 1 second. He even had difficulty 2v1. The reason I’m saying this because I played against thieves all last season, even core thieves who tried to do what the OP did going pure zerker. They simply can’t do it.

No joke. For a thief to down someone in 1 second they have to be in melee range and attacking from behind. I’m sure anyone on any class would be assisted in their journey to legendary with the ability to stealth kill anyone in 1 second.
This says more about mes than anything. Thieves can’t stealth one shot kill at range.

edit: they deleted
You are happy 2 out of 3 months. That’s a 66% enjoyment rate. Do you want to be a glass is a third empty kind of person?

The cool thing about unranked it is not formulaic like ranked. If you want to just run points you can or just bunk a point or only go for secondary objectives. Sometimes both teams forget there are capture points and have an all out brawl in the middle of skyhammer map. If it wasn’t like that I probably would never have played PvP at all. I suspect other people would give up too. There’s times of the day when premades make unranked unplayable so you have to quit and try at another time.
The good thing about ranked is it offers more challenging matches and there are specific goals you can set for yourself.
You can’t compare ranked and unranked. They are two completely different games. They both have their place and are both necessary.
You can play against the same 5 people in pvp for an hour or two. This is true even during league. There’s just not the interest in pvp to warrant focused development in this area. The balance updates are obviously for WvW, raids and HoT. So don’t act suprised that the balance patch doesn’t make any sense. PvP is low priority.
It’s been 1 day. Ask again in a month to give people time to formulate their opinions before you try to fast track it into league.
And nerf mesmer.
Mesmer utilities aren’t as useful in WvW. It might work with a team of 5 in an area as big as a football field but against a zerg over a distance of miles, mesmers can’t do a lot. DH are useful which is why they got the nerf. At any given time there’s more than 10 people playing WvW. There was a lot of work done on WvW and HoT this update. PvP just got a revamp on a couple of old maps. The balance wasn’t for pvp.
I suspect PVP was a much lower consideration when they were producing this patch.
Yes and all the people on this forum alone that have posted that they are on their 3rd alt account who flew up to legendary. That small subset is getting pretty large. Did you see on those graphs an equal number of people at the other end of that getting consistent bad matchups? So this “other factor” I was refering to that allows someone with no experience in ranked to attain legendary in unlosable matches, if you can understand this then what logically follows is it equally affects another group who are placed in unwinable matches.
No. It’s a nice idea but it’s not going to improve the situation at all. And you don’t know and don’t care if that’s true or not. They say ignorance is bliss so thumbs up.
Actually I proposed that they should of done that 2 months ago along with many others. So I can take it that you are well aware of the issues and you were disregarded everything the OP said just to put a positive spin on the topic? I stand corrected. I thought you were just oblivious.
(edited by jessiestiles.9437)
More than likely they got paired with really good teammates consistently
This part of your post is finally on topic. Why would they get paired with really good teammates consistently?
Yeah you had a few loses and now you’re a zen master. You still disregarded completely what the OP was saying. Why don’t you apply those mental skills to reading what they said? How does a person who has never played ranked before attain legendary while someone who has played thousands of games cannot? There has to be some “other factor” involved outside of mechanical skill and mental state.
It would be impossible to prove that. Catch-22 ESL. ProLeague is officially a sham.
If it was a dc then they shouldn’t replay. I want a rematch because from watching the videos it seems more like ddos. We’ll see what they find.
On the changing teams isn’t there a name for that? I remember hearing something about college sports and parents pretending to get a divorce so their child could play on a team in a different state. When playing for prize money and teams can pick and choose players from the entire league it does seem a bit silly.
You didn’t do it with no assist. I saw that you were in a party. It’s the details you leave out of this that are telling.
I got invited randomly by the guys i killed off….i chatted a bit with them and left. Feel free to ask them.
I only q solo.
I did contact one of them and they said you were solo q but disputed some of your other details. Aparently the midfight was 4v4 and you didn’t sit on their home point and kill them off all game single handedly. They agreed what their team did was “dumb” standing in your wells.
You didn’t do it with no assist. I saw that you were in a party. It’s the details you leave out of this that are telling.
Right, you single handedly fought the whole team. Wake up.
We are not even bothering to read the thread now. A cranium 3 inches think.
Let’s disregard everything the OP said.. all you need is a dash of positivity and a philosophy taken from a kungfu movie.
The only reason I rage is because one of my friends who has never touched PvP in Gw2 before Season 2 got straight to Legendary in 2 weeks.
We at the forum don’t know how to process this information because it might lead us to believe that there might actually be something wrong with the system and our 2 months of telling people to “get good” might somehow be flawed. So get good.
Playing so many games results in fatigue and poorer performance. The only solution is more games. Then you start to feel worn out over the whole process.
But don’t tell us we’re idiots.
Yes, that is ridiculous. I’d support tighter controls for changing teams midseason at least. Back to the thread topic, as someone who doesn’t want the league to turn into a joke, wouldn’t you prefer a rematch if it’s proven that Vermillion got ddos’d? Even though they might not be playing the same team. You seem to want to characterise people who believe there was malfeasance in various ways, when you agree they could be correct in thinking that. I don’t get that.
That is a different issue, i was relating a issue with dc in the match.
Not cheating, i watched the matches and this seemed to be the only match with this problem. Also if you have any issue you would just like any competitive scene take it to a official to go under review. I wasnt going to assume it was a attack but took it from a literal perspective.
The reason for thinking it was more than internet issues is you can see Frosty’s internet is fine before the game and during the first 3 minutes and for a long time after the game. It was only those 8 minutes or so in both games that his internet becomes completely unusable. It occured at almost the same point on the timer in both games. So there’s a clear pattern here. TCG was probably going to lose in both games. There’s your motive. Unless we are given evidence to the contrary it looks very much like sabotage.
I understand that but once again you dont get to decide that. Vermillion looked like they were going to win both matches until it happened.
First few things you have to say
1- Does TCG have a history of this happening?
2- Does this player have a history of internet complications?
3- Does the ESL league have the ability to look into what potentially happened as well as Anet?Everyone is coming on here saying they “have” to replay when you can almost guarantee that the power above have looked into the situation. If they see it as a lets move on, you have to go off of that.
Making accusations and conspiracy theories because people dont like a team/players/ PvP system isnt how things work.
1. We don’t know that TCG did this. It could have been anyone.
2. We can see from Frostball’s POV video there was no internet problem before or after the match. That’s a pretty discriminating internet connection if that was the case. His immediate reaction was it is a DDOS attack. Someone with a tempremental internet connection would probably blame their internet first.
3. As I understand it currently proof is being sought from the isp.
Look at the big picture and consider future games where people in the audience can decide the outcome of a match. You’ve also seen the lengths people go to for digital rewards so we can imagine what someone would do for $50000. Pretty much anything. In a professional sport this would be taken very seriously and safegaurds would be put in place to prevent it because it would kitten off players and spectators. As a fanatical sports enthusiast I’d think you’d want to discuss rationally instead of calling people children and conspiracy theorists.
That is a different issue, i was relating a issue with dc in the match.

But they are basically condoning ddos if they don’t replay. It’s saying if you want to win do it to the other team before they do it to you. They can’t ajudicate it and they won’t replay the match. It’s wrong. The only solution is to replay.
I think they should play it again. If not, whether it was TCG or a deranged fan, what is the point of even having a competition?
