**Spoiler** The lack of choice in the end
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Not sure about those two examples but as an idea this is a solid suggestion.
Ok maybe that was a bit harsh. Taken all together (every patch as a whole) this actually was pretty good.
Not expecting a lot for the March 18th patch.
The ending of this series was super predictable. But hey that’s what happens when you write a years worth of story with two people locked in a room for two days.
I think this is meant to be more of a promotional tool for possible incoming players than it is for players already in the game…
Thanks! I forgot about those lines of text in the last Ls. That does indeed sound like she lost control.
Thanks guys. I am glad you guys see it as a viable theory if nothing more.
Kal, I agree that this theory only works if she is in control of her own goals. I haven’t found anything yet to say-definitively-that she is not. From what I have we know that something has broken in her mind. We don’t really know if she is in collusion with it or not. Furthermore, it is a beautiful irony that the being who wants nothing more than independence lives everyday with something compelling her actions. Perhaps that can be another reason why this theory works; she seeks independence above everything but cannot achieve it now with the voice in her own head. If the voice is an elder dragon all the more reason to want to do away with them.
This could be boneheaded but I wanted to bring it to you guys. Maybe you can help solidify this theory or help to debunk it. Please with either option be helpful and respectful.
I am starting to believe that Scarlet’s end goal is to eliminate magic from the world. My reasoning follows.
1)Engineers shun magic.
This is possibly a weak point but I ran across it in the wiki when reading about magic. It plainly states that all professions utilize magic except engineers who are opposed to it.
“Of the heroic professions, all except engineers (whom shun it)…” wiki exercept.
2)Scarlet is looking for where two ley lines intersect.
We don’t know how many ley lines are out there but it makes sense that if you needed to turn them off it would be easiest to do so where many intersect.
3)Eliminating magic would kill of the Elder Dragons.
Supposedly. No one can really say that for sure but one can assume that if the dragons have nothing to consume they will not be able to sustain their self. IF the theory on the pale tree being a champion of an elder dragon is true this would free the Sylvari which we know is part of Scarlet’s goal.
4)Magic is finite.
Magic in Tyria is a finite resource. Because of this there is a possibility to rid it from the world permanently.
5)Society wouldn’t like it.
If eliminating magic from the world is the only method to permanently get rid of the elder dragons the major races possibly wouldn’t want to because they have a huge dependence on it.
6)This would make her immensely powerful.
Scarlet states in “What Scarlet Saw” that
“I have a great deal of work ahead of me. I don’t know what the world will be when I’m through, but I will very much enjoy finding out. Empires will fall, continents will burn, and when the conflagration is over, I’ll be there to put my stamp on whatever new world this one becomes.”
Surely an exhaustion of magic from the world could create the circumstances she speaks about in the above quote. Also the last sentence sounds like Scarlet crowning herself queen or something. With her advance knowledge of engineering and her armies already in place she would be in a great position to conquer the world.
Anyway there it is guys. Let me know what you guys think.
She had something to do with what’s wrong with scarlet and it must be shady.
Also one of the asura says that whatever is driving scarlet to do the things she is doing now “came in with her” (in reference to the machine that drove her mad). Well, the pale tree was quite literally with her when it happened.
This isn’t a condescending question. I honestly want to know because if there isn’t anything new to learn I don’t think I will bother with this patch. I am kind of busy the next few weeks.
Thanks again and see you at the conclusion!
So ls season 1 is coming to an end. I hope to compile a list of all the mysteries anet has created this season to see which they have answered, which they have have not, and what has actually happened compares to the speculation. I need your help though because of memories frailty.
I will start us off:
What is Scarlet after?
What did Scarlet see that caused her madness?
What does the Pale Tree have to do with all this?
What do the Sylvari have to with all of this?
Who is Mr. E?
What’s the correlation between Scarlet and steam creatures?
Why did Tequatl get stronger?
What does Scarlet know about Caithe?
Those are the big ones. Please add to this list. I think this will be helpful to lore hounds and maybe even the devs.
It’s a server attack. Its best they do not acknowledge it because that will probably bring more.
As a black man whenever I can make a character with darker skin tone I do (obviously I can’t if it is sylvari or something like that).
Do I think it is weird that there are few black npcs in the game? Nah I can’t bring myself to care that much.
Make matters worse Ebon Gnashblade has been saying that she would attack LA for awhile now.
Because they are working on multiple issues at once and this one was ready for implementation?
I agree with op…sorta. The game needs excitement and intrigue to be put back into it. This is typically done by xpac but Ls can deliver the same results.
Don’t under estimate the devs. They are working on something big to combat the competition they are going to have here shortly. Expect something big soon! You can even tell that xpac like content is coming soon by the evidence: ramped up marketing, Ls story coming to an end, interviews being granted, colab threads. It’s all so they can annaounce the next big thing.
They didn’t promise anything.
They planned.
Big difference.
It is your fault for construing their plans oor goals and take it as a deadline that must be met, or else.
As someone mentioned above, posts like this is exactly why Anet would rather shut up and not say anything about future content. People like OP construe it as a fact and a promise when all they want to do is give the fanbase a vision of what to expect and hope for.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here. If you’re not going to follow through on plans that get the playerbase at large excited and wanting more, then why bother mentioning it in the first place.
You’re only begging for criticism if all you can do is hype-up and spin and then not deliver.
They clearly said they’d do it in 2013 and they didn’t. If Anet were a person that had to report to their boss and say “no I didn’t meet the deadline” they’d probably be fired for it, when you have as many people playing the game as what you do here. A large portion of them are hanging out for content that has been over a year in the planning.
This is what you get when you don’t keep your mouth shut on plans and, more importantly, timeframes. Everything you did good in the year is overshadowed by everything you didn’t follow-through on.
Just one tip Anet: keep it real.
Sadly enough I agree. But I agree differently. I understand kitten happens. I also think that it isn’t the end of the world things got pushed back. But apparently giving deadlines causes more trouble then it’s worth. devs should just not give any out.
No opinion here but that analogy was awesome.
You lost me in what you are asking.
1. Continuous updates
Not that it’s been a smooth ride but they are making huge strides.
2. Combat
Mobile, distinct and pretty fun.
3. Transparency and humility
Anet is a rather transparent company relatively speaking. Also I think that when they screw up they admit it and take responsibility.
5. Quality of life improvements.
Currency wallet probably lost them money but they still implemented it. Much respect.
That’s about it. This game is still in its infancy and needs a lot of work. I do have faith anet is up for the job though.
I do agree. Especially since so much emphasis is placed on the event system to level. It’s kind of embarrassing when u think about it…essentially if you level now you will miss out on their premier content. And be stuck with the content they think is inferior; the traditional quests (hearts).
1. Dodge Animations | First off I didn’t come up with this. I heard about this while watching a VisualWood podcast. Imagine an elementalist that dodges with a crack of electricity, or a mesmer who just disappears shortly when dodging. For simplicity’s sake these wouldn’t add any additional effects, unless of course you have traited for it. I am sure the last thing the Devs want to do is add another component to the game that needs to be balanced.
Oh yeah, I remember thinking about this earlier on, when I found out that the thief has a different dodge than the other professions.
I think there is one thing to be careful with in respect to these dodge animations though: effects easily start cluttering up the screen. So if they become too flashy combat might just turn into one big cloud of lights.
It could be really cool to have the fluffy part of horizontal progression extend to animations. And the dodge animation is one that we all use.
Would it be more interesting to group them by profession or to make them available to everyone? (With the idea that more options lead to more individual character progression. And it would require less development if we didn’t have to create multiple animations per profession just to give every profession some options.)
I agree that they will have to be careful about it. Our spell effects are already distracting as it is.
I think it would be best to not class restrict it. Leave it up to the player to decide what they think is fitting.
I’m glad you like the idea. If anyone else likes it say so that way the devs know we want it!
Ideas for horizontal progression
2. Mounts | Yes I did indeed open this can of worms. People hate this idea and I understand why IF that would mean inclusion of mounts means waypoints were effected. These two systems could work entirely independently of one another.
I think that waypoints are a great option for those busy people who like to instantly travel from place to place. I completely sympathize with you guys. If you only have two hours a week you want to get as much as you can out of those two hours. I however hate waypoints. I only use them when I need to travel very far distances. To me zipping from point A to point B ruins immersion. I would much rather use a mount for short to medium distance, and wps for long distance. And I think that people would enjoy collecting mounts. It gives another layer to horizontal progression aside from cosmetic gear.
3. Player Housing/Guild Halls | This would be cool but I am not sure what exactly it should consist of.
4. PVE Resurrection Animations | I got this idea from this forum. I think the author has a very good idea here. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/tower/Who-is-up-for-pve-Rezzer-animations/first#post3144259 . Think of an engineer who pulls out a makeshift defibrillator or a guardian praying over a corpse.
5. More Gear or Customization Options | Just reiterating the idea that DanteZero had earlier about customization of armor. I think this is a win win for adding depth and being resource efficient.
5. Utilities Skills | I think the skill point system is boring but gets the job done for early level skills. With these new additions to skill points instead of just tying them to a huge amount of skill points why not do some sort of class specific mission instead? I always thought that the lore between classes was shallow in GW2 and to me the lore behind a class is half my interest in the class.
At the moment none. And I love that I have that choice. No one can peek into my gear or do a stat check to make sure.
If I kind of just stumble into having the mats and stuff then I will of course use them. But I have no plans to actively pursue them.
1) Lack of world PvP. How cool wouldn’t it be with dynamic PvP events popping up in the world and mingling with the PvE action? I still hold out hopes for an expansion exploring this missed opportunity. Do something with the factions you’ve got. That massive event you ended beta with was some of the coolest kitten ever and I’d love to see more like it.
2) No dimishing returns on crowd control effects. Probably the biggest issue in actuality but I’m really keen on world PvP so yeah.
3) Unimaginative zone designs. The Mists is the biggest culprit here. You have a magical landscape you can change however you desire it and you make it rolling green hills and castles? Boooring.
4) Wardrobe system. There isn’t one. Why is that? Please let me change my pants without having to pay gems for it. It’s embarrassing.
5) Levels. I don’t think they serve any real purpose other than to lead you by the nose. I certainly wouldn’t miss them.
3)! Dude I always thought the scenery was boring too. But since it is so praised I thought I was just missing something or that I had no idea what a good zone should look like. Glad to see I am not alone in thinking this.
My list in no particular order.
1. Weapon SkillSet Choice – There just needs to be more options. Some weapons have one skill that just sucks and since we only have access to about 15 skills that can be a huge annoyance.
2. Zoned Maps and Waypoints – Absolutely ruins the exploration for me. I don’t feel like the world is connected. The waypoints only makes the matter worse. With that said I have stopped using them as much but I fear it is to late because I just recently realized this was a reason I wasn’t becoming as immersed and it is hard to see the game through the eyes of a newcomer once again. I remember vividly the first time I came across IronForge in that other game. It was an epic adventure to find a trainer to teach me to use swords. The first time I entered LA I just kind of arrived via waypoint with no objective in mind.
3. No trinity or structured approach to group content – I don’t care that they got rid of the traditional system but the system they put in just does not work. I have never been in a group and our composition actually mattered. And the sad part is anet thinks that what they did was successful (view GW2 Oath Video). No, all you did was make group content mostly boring.
4. Storytelling – Just weak. There is no sense of urgency or impending doom. Incredibly jealous of GW1 players who had rich stories that truly mattered.
5. Reward system is screwed – With them getting rid of gear treadmill they need to find a way to drive players to play. Scream that fun is the reward all you want but its not just fun that drives me to play MMOs. It is some bizarre mix of fun, challenge and reward. Everyplayer has a different internal ratio and anet has yet to find one that appeals to most players.
With that said anet has done quite a few things that worked out well. I just hope they sort the other junk out.
Yes, it was faked. Though, did they ever actually SAY that it was player driven? Or just let us assume that?
No they did not say explicitly that what we were doing effected how fast the meter moved. But they went out of their way to imply it. That’s the part that I don’t like. I feel like they were trying to trick people which makes me wonder what else they could be deceptive about.
Is it a big deal? Nah not really. But I think it is still worth mentioning in the forums that at least some of us don’t like being intentionally mislead.
I also am disappointed they lied to us. Especially over something like this. It was cheap and tasteless. At least with the abandon thauma nova thing it’s hard to prove on our side they faked that (not saying they did just that if they did we can never really know). This was clearly a hoax
the mechanics, looks and fight are great.
lore? no.
Yea and the lore is such a HUGE part of it for me and I would imagine a lot of other players as well.
Myself personally would play a poorly built dungeon if the lore was on point and be alot happier than I would be if I played a great dungeon but the lore was crap.
Its kind of like the hook.
I feel like I’m one of the few that likes Scarlet >.>
Yea you are one of the few. I think a good portion hates her, even more are indifferent, but I haven’t heard someone say they outright liked her.
Please help me upset my wife anet.
Not their job bro. You gotta man up and do that yourself.
Yea. Time for me to stop blaming my wife’s happiness on other people and step up to the plate and kitten her off like I know I can. Thanks bro.
Tiny little bald Asura scientist instead of being amazing Gods. :<
Thanks,
ObamaKiel. On that note, I still did enjoy the Fractal. The lightning version of silver surfer is neat.
but still.
I lol’d at the strike through.
I really hope that the next villain is good. I don’t think I will have the patience to sit through another weak villain and weak plot. I don’t want to threaten that I am leaving so I offer this instead: With this crap story I cannot justify spending money on a game that every 2 weeks leaves me unfulfilled and dissatisfied. However if gw2 had a stronger story line going and a deep well thought out villain my wife would certainly be upset with the amount of gem store purchases on our monthly statements, and how often I am playing. Please help me upset my wife anet. She is far to happy and content right now. It has been months since she has had to pry me away from my desktop. We even watched bridezillas last night together and she was ecstatic. So please anet fix your villains so I can give you money and continue having a less than satisfactory relationship.
This is awesome!
I been waiting for anet to manage to evoke some emotion into the Ls.
Just a suggestion op put a spoiler warning tag on this. I know you should stay away from the forums if you don’t want spoilers but you know someone’s gonna start whining about it.
Not nerfing the bags, but nerfing their location. champion should spawn randomly and there should be a limit of people killing them. Why so?
1. Too much reward for something that can’t fail. It’s just impossible to fail this, it’s like standing in LA and getting free gold. You can go there gearless at level 1 and nothing will happen to you because there like 50 other people killing the same thing.
2. It’s bad for new players, exemple: he starts at queensdale, gets to level 80 and even at max level he still don’t know how to use his class. Same thing for wvw by the way : if people zerg all day long , they have no idea how to win 1v1 fights, I’ve seen some pathetic things on youtube, people are winning 7v1 in wvw because alot of them simply never learn how to PvP, they just blob up and spam 111.
3. What’s the point of those dynamic events and other zones like Orr ? If people can just stand in the same place and kill the same mobs over and over again? What’s the points of living story then?
4. The economy, people complain about precursors being 800g. If somebody stops playing for a week he is too far behind because people r making hunder of golds per day with this.
So yea, I think the champions should scale with the number of people. Exemple if it’s more than 10, then it could become harder by adding those ‘elite mobs’ . This would make open world harder if there 15 people , they will have to fight 10 elite mobs and 1 champion. Or they could simply spawn randomly on the map to avoid the whole zerg train farming them.
If it is not this then the people who farm will just move onto the next most profitable thing to do as long as that thing has no barriers to entry.
Yes, you are a very lucky guy.
This is very charitable of you to do. The only problem is that most people who roam the forums are people who are angry with the living story. Nonetheless I took the survey and hope it can help.
In a heart beat I would purchase this. I would also go through incredible lengths to acquire it within game. This is a solid idea.
I bet Scarlet could do magical things for the bickering between republicans and democrats.
“Republicrat Isle” all new content coming 26th November. You get a donkaphant mini for completing the meta.
Don’t worry, she can recycle the existing alliances when she runs out, the Molten Alliance and the Aetherblades for example can become the Molten Blades. Eventually she’ll end up with a pile of grey goo with the occasional arm or sword sticking out that is the result of combining everything with everything repeatedly.
The alliances thing is wearing kinda thin (personally, I thought it was kinda thin to begin with).
Lol brilliant.
a 50 50 split would be nice.
…I’d like to say thanks to everyone who posted constructive and/or detailed feedback regarding the Living World story and characters in this thread. While I can’t post spoilers about future content, I would like to address some of the opinions that have been brought up. Bear in mind I may have touched upon these topics in other threads that were tied to previous releases (or mentioned within interviews on external Web sites) but I’ll put my most recent thoughts here for discussion….
It makes me so happy to get some insight into what is going on when you guys develop. The pacing is a BIG problem with me. I don’t care so much about the dragons as long as what’s supplemented feels grand, cohesive, and consciously devised.
As far as having one plot line from beginning to end as opposed to having several working at the same time I offer that having several running at the same time isn’t a problem as long as they are discernible to the player easily.
With Scarlet it just seemed like she was doing-stuff-not that you were setting up plots that while she is the person pulling the strings, will ultimately progress mostly independently.
But on a serious note, this gives me a glimmer of hope that there is an actual story going on.
At least this is going somewhere, and even though I am at serious odds with you anet after this last patch I do have hope and faith in your abilities to make whatever happens next progressive (in the arch of the story), interesting, and-if you can muster it-I dare say captivating.
PREEEEEETY PLEASE!!!!!!!!
looks like it is going to be permanent….
so, we can tell the future generation of GW2 players that once upon a time, on that side of the lake, there were trees…..
Oh my god lmao!
Guys it’s not Scarlet….
Next update Scarlet could do something to make you think she was interesting, or if not that at least add depth to the story. I hope she does. BUT I have been hoping this for a looong time now. She just keeps NOT advancing the story in any shape or form. She just combines faction x with faction y, we never learn why or how then the next update she does it again.
If ANET right now got rid of Scarlet and replaced her with another villain the new antagonist would be just as boring. If they could write better stories they would have by now. Now I am not saying that their writers are no good or any assumptions like that. There may be a reason they are just giving us what feels like filler story. But there is certainly a problem.
Dude I feel for you. That sucks
We could also use Margonites…. And Palawa Joko’s armies…. The Jade Brotherhood…. And the Canthan Empire(that’s if the current Emperor isn’t xenophobic like Emperor Usoku was)……
There was some lore stating that cantha was pretty Isolationist now…
Doesn’t matter because the Krait are also xenophobic but Scarlet is such a master negotiator she was able to merge the Krait and Nightmare court into a formidable opponent.
I bet Scarlet could do magical things for the bickering between republicans and democrats.
The good news is there is only a finite amount of evil factions that Scarlet can combine into an alliance. Eventually she will run out and she will…
A. Just go away
Or
B. Be forced to do something compelling or original.
Scarlet with a krait-bred, NC-sylvari infused margonite-looking creature? I swear, if they dare touch godly lore with Scarlet…
They have to bring back the good lore somehow. I for one am happy that while not necessarily good, this patch at least is darker and more of the way of fantasy.
Yea def scarlet. The hair is a dead giveaway. But anybody else thinking that the guy behind her are the Kraits “Prophets”?
