Why do people have the misguided opinion that Taunt is for tanking and not simply a control/positioning effect. You don’t even need to have tanky gear; cast taunt and kite or dodge the attack and you don’t even need to worry about the damage.
Because mmo players love to jump to conclusions (myself included at times). People need to just put on the brakes and have a little faith that the Devs know their audience plays gw2 because to at least some degree do not like the hard trinity system.
Well I hope the expansion goes beyond your expectations. No one but anet really knows how big this thing will be. There’s only do much you can explain through blog posts and interviews.
I do however think anet wouldn’t have announced an xpac without there being plenty of content. I have to have faith that they learned from the initial launch that not having enough content leaves players bitter and they will leave.
Anybody else find this post super rude?
Ya. I think the same also.
It bugs me thats hes willing to knock the lore of the Revenant, when ArenaNet hasn’t given us any lore for it yet, have told us when they will give us lore, and the fact hes replacing the Revenant (which is based off real lore) with random lore that hes just made up.
Ok as long as it’s not just me. Lol.
Anybody else find this post super rude?
Great idea.
You some sorta genius or something?
There’s a thread that covers this topic with replies all ready. Mod can delete this. Thnx!
really? i don’t see it, and nothing on the dev tracker (or any interviews i’ve read) popped saying that base classes are also getting new stuff, which is kinda worrying me :/
There is nothing saying that base classes will receive an update. What I was saying is someone has already made a thread roughly identical to this topic so this one should be deleted.
Hocus pocus. Lol.
This is upsetting but there is a potential redemptive value in the mastery system possibly.
There’s a thread that covers this topic with replies all ready. Mod can delete this. Thnx!
It doesn’t sound like it to me.
Each class gets a new specialization. But what if you just like playing plain old elementalist? Or what if the elementalist specialation mechanic just grates on you. This isn’t as simple as just playing with a different weapon. Changing the class mechanic has the potential to drastically change the playability of the class.
Anet hasn’t announced new utilities or skills for the base classes yet and it seems like a big enough feature that if they had it they would announce it. But there’s no way they would release an expansion and not add ONE addition to the base classes right? Please tell me there’s no way.
Anyways what’s your thoughts and opinions guys? Please share and be respectable to your fellow players.
You have some good reasons to be concerned.
But why do you care to stop the hype train? I understand You’ve observed and put on your cautionary brakes because you don’t want to be disappointed but why do you care if others buy into the hype or not?
I’ll be leveling my ranger so I can have a Druid. I hope this doesn’t bite me in the kitten when in a few weeks they say x classes specialization is y and I go Omg I want a"Y" so bad!
Making it purchasable is a neat idea
Yeah unique doesn’t really mean anything unless you’re familiar with mmos. Good luck hopefully customer support will help you out.
I wrote a thread a few months back about why I thought there was no expansion, but at this point it is kinda silly to really think there’s no expansion.
Turn on that NPE compass they added a few weeks ago. It should show you were it is.
First off, I really enjoyed playing through the this last patch. Just wanted to say that so people know I am not just complaining to complain.
My questions is weren’t we supposed to find out who Mr.E was by end of Season 2? Did I miss it in a different patch, or was this just never said and I imagined it.
Thanks
Now, can I laugh at all the people who were sure there was no expansion?
Yep.
Most of is naysayers will be happy to eat our words now anyhow. Ill tasks bring wrong over an expansionless gw2 any day of the week.
Did they say they have an announcement for pax south?
I hate to admit it but the only reason I come back is to get my free login stuff, and most importantly because I don’t feel there is a better mmo on the market that has the same or similar business model. I mean that in a lesser of evils type of way not a this game is just that good type of way.
Glad to see others in this thread are enjoying it however. Happy holidays guys!
Seriously? We have a billion threads about the broken search function. You couldn’t search for one of those and post it there? Sheesh.
I doubt they will though I feel your pain.
There are a lot of third party programs that can help get this accomplished for you though such as xpadder. They shouldn’t violate the rules either though you’d probably want to check on this yourself and not take my word for it because I am often wrong.
Kinda hard to take you seriously when you just throw random numbers around. Full light armor sets costs less than 600g to craft and considering how easy it is to get money these days it’s not that much.
The exact number is irrelevant, the core to the OP’s message is true. 1,500g or 600g, that’s way above the average player’s reach. Certainly way above mine. You may not be one of the “rich investor” types, but if you’re able to get 600g with ease, you’re certainly not in the majority either.
Ascended items were never ment for the average player.
Ascended items are for those who want to go the extra mile with either their time or their money.

You’re in that little cave in Lornar’s Pass near Jetsam Isle. The cave is used by pirates (Taidha’s pirates, I think) to store their booty. (Must be some pretty refined pirates if they decided to loot artwork!)
Good job. Now keep it going. Post a pic and whoever guesses right first is it!
Don’t do it.
It’s scary on this side of things.
I think anet needs to pick a niche and stick with it.
If that niche is casual content then don’t create content like triple worm or tequatl.
If they don’t care to do fractals then don’t release a new fractal every year and a half to appease players.
If dungeons aren’t their cup of tea then don’t release one new path after two years.
It sends mixed signals and people who might have moved on are now thinking “hey maybe anet does care about dungeon goers” when they possibly do not.
I mean how simple would it be when someone makes a post like “I want hard coordinated events” and the player base can just say “oh anet doesn’t produce that kind of content, maybe you should try something else” instead we are just like…“anet doesn’t care about hard coordinated content…I think…well the worm was hard but that was a one time thing…oh and tequatl…but those are the only two..on second thought…I’m not sure what this game cares about”
It would be better if they just let us know. Players would (mostly) stop trying to turn this game into something it is not and anet could focus their development instead of appeasing certain players with their content of choice every year and a half.
Has anet ever explicitly stated they care to put out more content for more dedicated players? Serious question here, I am all for it but the more I play gw2 the more I feel that the Devs have come to the conclusion that;
A) They are the smallest demographic of players
B) They demand the most and hardest to please
C) They are the quickest to complain and stir the controversy pot
D) They burn through content the fastest
All of these kinda spell out a why bother situation to me.
Just asking and I wish anet would say something of their intentions because if they don’t care to make content for dedicated players so that these players can move on and find something to satisfy them.
People who love mmos but cannot afford to live in the game like a lot of other mmos are famous of forcing on their players.
How many members of Destiny’s Edge does it take to rob a bank?
Zero, they’re all too busy stealing your spotlight. What did Trahearne say after being pushed into a bottomless well?
“This well won’t end.”
The second one is grand.
There’s an xp bar?
i think there will be no expansion for guild wars 2.
the living story is a good platform to deliver expansion content.
You don’t find it too slow?
I think it CAN be a good platform but I am not sure anet has/can figured it how to make it work. Also, there’s alot of problems one of the biggest ones I think is;
How does anet monetize on this without the community feeling nicked and dimed at every turn with the living story?
I’d like to know the thoughts of anyone who has opinion about this also.
Reasons I think OP is wrong:
- Anet HAS put a lot of effort into Living Story, but has never hidden the fact that they are experimenting with it. Note that the introduction of the Journal leads to repeatable rather than temporary content that was the original LS concept.
- There are some VERY high profile Anet Devs that nobody has heard ANYTHING from in more than a year (unless they have left the company and I’m not aware of it….quite possible).
- I hate to say it, but the LS content has seemed more and more like a diversion of late. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it seems to be a flailing attempt (for the lack of a nicer term).
- From what I gather, GW2 has been consistently profitable up to this point and is a considered a VERY long term money maker for NCSoft. For a long term game, they need to be able to pull dormant players back into the game months (if not years) from now. A previously unmentioned or advertised Expansion is how you do that.
Anet is using the LS to “test” the waters with new concepts that will be fleshed out with a “surprise” expansion that has been in the works for quite a while. Consider how all the negative comments above change if they announce an expansion after Wintersday and it’s ready for release by Year 3 Anniversary (if not sooner)? Players that have written GW2 off for months will be back in a flash and those that hold out, will eventually come back (if the Expansion is up to snuff).
I could be totally wrong, but I think some big things are on the horizon for GW2 and the fact that Anet is keeping it under complete wraps is a smart move (in terms for maintaining the longevity of the game).
Good points there.
I hope u are right and I am wrong. Only time will tell my friend
If Anet decided to go without an expansion, they’ve ultimately doomed their own game 5 years beforehand. Such a bad call and such a shame…
So you don’t believe the living world can keep retention up?
Everyone, what would it take for the living world to retain you as a long term player if no traditional expansion is in the works?
If they released a new continent as an expansion, it would likely be small at first with areas reserved for the living story. Orr for example should have been released through the living story, which would have required players to actually fight their way to the heart of Orr over time.
That’s an interesting idea there.
I think they’ve been working on an expansion for 2 to 3 months now. It’s either an expansion or gw3. Either way, they’re definitively doing something because gw2 feels very still and neglected right now.
You can’t be serious…..
Let me explain something.
A-Net and especially NC-Soft are interested in making money…. nothing else.
If there would be something like an expansion or GW3 they would hype it
to nirvana.I know people’s last hope is that there is somehthing brewing something they can hope for.
A reality checks tells us something more simple….
They don’t announce something because there is nothing to announce.
Ever thought about that ?I know most people don’t wanna hear it. I am one of these people.
But it is what it is. The head office have this illusion of feeding the people barely enough to keep them from quitting.
This is the big difference to GW1 where they did everything to please the customers and even trump the wildest dreams of the players.
If you ask for something in gw2 you get the bare minimum that could even considered
to relate to what was asked for.I guess it is easier for everyone of us to realize that there will be mini maps added without any connection to anything just say… “you guys got what you wanted”.
You guys remember asking for new skills ?
We got new skills… sure every class got a single one and they are utterly useless….
but A-Net can say they are listening to people and added contend. You guys better get used to it
I don’t think their agenda is as malevolent as you make it seem but I do agree that Anet wont just come out and say that their is no expansion and living story is it because they don’t want to shock the player base into quitting.
Did you know Everquest, a 15 year old MMORPG is coming out with its 21th expansion this October???
Still aint dead lol.Back to the topic, one thing that I thought of yesterday was if this game never releases an expansion it never gets to re-hype the game to draw in the players that left to come back and play GW2. That’s the purpose of an expansion is to bring everyone that left to come back and replay the game. However I don’t think it should make an expansion every year, it should make sure its good and it should be like once every 3-5 years. The purpose of expansions is to rehype the game, not necessarily to bring new content. You have to look at this from a marketing point of view.
The marketing angle is a very valid one.
However there are many other ways to drive revenue. Product discounts, product trials, product promotion, and introducing the product to other markets (all of which we’ve seen).
As far as hyping to old players id argue that is what the small living story updates and trailers are for. I do see that these things are less promotable than a full xpac just wanted to state that no xpac does not equal no hype
I agree that if we do get an xpac it will be once every 3 – 5 years.
I just don’t see it happening. I think gw2 will be an expansionless mmorpg. I have a few points on why I think this.
1. Anet has invested heavily in living story.
From new technology to reworking their teams. I see this as a hint that anet plans to have the living story be their vehicle of choice for expansion content.2. Anets statements.
They have never came out and said “no x PAC. Only living story”. But they seem to dodge the question when asked about it while reaffirming their belief that living story can deliver expansion content.3. Gradually proving their point.
Everything you see in an expansion has already been put into the game. New zones, new traits, new abilities, new story lines etc. the only exception is new races really. Now the quality and quantity of these things is very debatable. What isn’t is that they have indeed added what many would believe to be expansion content to the game.Soooo there’s my 2 cents. I would prefer a traditional expansion but I see a lot of people holding on to the hope of an x pac but I just don’t see it happening.
Now I could be wrong. I’m very aware I am one person with one perspective and by all means as soon as I post this a trailer could drop and I’ll look silly. So no flaming me in the event of that happening lol!
Anyways what’s your thoughts do you think there will be an x PAC?
Edit – added in my opinion to topic

Anything in particular makes you think the last 3 months?
I hope there will be an expansion, the two little maps we have gotten through LS are nice, but nothing compared to what traditional expansions offer. Having the Kodan or Tengu as a playable race would be awesome, and don’t forget some of the classes from GW1 they could put in GW2, or even make new ones.
I do too!!!
The only thing that gives me hope is they revamped the npe as if they are expecting a sudden influx of players. But that’s the only thing I’ve seen that points towards xpac.

I agree with you 100%. It would seem that as far as priorities fixing condi damage would have trumped a lot of the other projects they have undergone.
It really is an important matter and it is baffling how it’s gone on so long without a fix.
Hey guys thnx for all the replies. I’ve read all of them and have a better sense of what is valued in this game and how to improve. I’ll continue to read these periodically.
This is a broad question i am aware but I think it would be interesting. So in a general pve sense what separates a skilled player from an unskilled one? Let’s assume they are specced appropriately. Im really looking forward to seeing your responses.
If u can find an email for them that may get u better luck.
A bit of a misinterpretation there, I do not care if they crash, so I can easily shout out to people to stop buying gems. Work on your ‘lawyering’ skills.
All in all it was about 60k gems shared between two of us, I think. Maybe more. I projected the fun to last somewhat longer and not get smothered by the frustration of the megaserver and the NPE combined.
That sucks buddy. I do sympathize with you on feeling like you are putting money into the game to get a better tomorrow and feel every update skips on what you actually want. Keep in mind that anet has a wide player base all wishing for different things.
I hope they add your type of content into the game soon.
Actually, Anet is using the gem money to build a secret volcano base.
I heard this too. Can a third confirm and comment on the features of the facility?
I love new stuff but they have not even balanced the current selection we have at this point.
And there are other ways to shake things up; add new weapons, add old weapons to current professions, new elites, new utilities, new healing skills.
Yes. It does without a doubt have a community and dev support.
I think we have firmly established that most forum posters don’t like the changes.
Lol I was wondering about this…
Yesterday I tried to deposit by instan bank access and instead it just used it. I just assumed I was mistaken and it had always been drag and drop,
