I think Errant is trolling you guys.
I dunno…. I know people who seemingly have zero issues with gw2 performance wise. Strangely enough most of them aren’t ppl with killer systems either. I do have to wonder if the game was optimized and play tested for the i5 as I see a ton of ppl with i5 processors that are having better luck than other people who even have much stronger processors. Either way there are obviously issues in my opinion or this thread and countless others would not receive these levels of debate they have if it was just a localized issue or a few ppl with very outdated pc’s.

A. If I was getting even 30 fps in big events I wouldn’t even have made the post
B. Possible, but Ive been playing nearly every mmo for the past 12 years with no issues like I have had with this game.
C. Not OC’D, never have with this PC
D. My network is set up by a friend who does this for a living. But I did pay him with a 12 pack so….
Either way I know I’m not alone. Its cool that it plays well for you but for me and MANY others it don’t. I like the game but it feels like a sloppy beta still in many ways including the engine. I find myself playing less just because it annoys me that what we have in this game should not require what is needed to play at a level that I as a gamer feel it should. In the long run if I do eventually stop playing I feel this will be the biggest contributing factor as there are many other games out there that are just less of a hassle.
edit for AMD Comment: I also have a new AMD 8350 4.0 GHZ 8x core with dual Gigabyte GTX 680’s and my performance is even worse than on my older i7.

Stop playing on machines from the late 90s. A 3rd gen intel i5 and a GTX 640 GPU will run Tequatl on max settings without breaking a sweat. The problem isn’t the servers or even the engine. It’s YOUR machine.
Source: Running Teq with no lag on max settings on a Dell XPS 8500 with a 3rd Gen i5 processor and GTX640 GPU
My system specs are in my sig.
I get 20fps in zergs and high pop events. It is NOT our systems, it is the crappy engine that the game is built around.
I am actually running practically the same setup with the same performance. People can make all of the excuses they want but the truth is I have a PC I can install near any current game on and play smooth as butter on ultra or high settings except GW2. That does not in any way fit with the advertised “mid range system” pitch we were given at launch when it won’t even run on systems considered fairly high end. Also the fact it so CPU intensive and barely touches the GPU just shows how messed up the engine really is. I know personally I’m not going to go buy a new PC to replace one less than a year old because 1 game is poorly designed.
Don’t get me wrong I like Teq, and the harder world bosses, I like wvw (even though I still would like to see less zerg play), and I loved the scarlet invasions. But Anet why on earth do you keep making huge open world content that you engine handles poorly? I have a pretty good PC as do many others playing but most of us struggle to even keep 20 fps during these events. Now that there are more mechanics and things to avoid in these fights the issue it even more apparent as half the time i’m dying to waves I cant even see or even if i can things are lagging so bad there is nothing I can do. I don’t think any of us want dumbed down content but something has to give somewhere. I think its time to step up and optimize your game in a significant way or start instancing content. You sold us a game targeting mid range systems and toting innovative combat. Right now even ppl with i7 processors and $400 video cards are have decent performance at best and the combat feels more like I’m fighting the engine than the mobs.
So I just read that turret users, ressers, people defending turrets don’t get credit for taking down Tequatl.
I sat through 10 encounters strategizing for almost 10 hours making corrections and theorycrafting how to take him down. But now this…if you don’t attack Tequatl you get 0 credit?
Why should I defend turrets if I don’t get anything out of it? Teamwork? This event encourages teamwork yet it THROWS IT IN OUR FACES BECAUSE YOU ONLY GET CREDITED FOR ATTACKING TEQUATL….so what’s the point? They should’ve just left it as auto attack to win if they don’t credit the people who support the main DPS team.So….why?
Once people try it once and don’t get anything the will either just dps or skip the event completely. It really getting old that Anet miraculously finds a way to botch every single thing they do.
I like the Tequatl fight and I like that there is finally harder content but it bothers me that the tools to coordinate in this game are atm garbage. This fight obvious requires massive movement to points and objectives at a rapid pace so where is the in game Voice Chat? Drawing on maps is clunky and near useless. Commanders need waaay more options to direct there army. And would you optimize the engine already….I have a killer PC that can only hold about 20fps at best during these events. I’m really starting to fear that the performance, options, and core gameplay mechanics in this game are holding it back way more than the developers willingness and ability to add new and strategic content
I like the idea of a tourney but in the current state I don’t think its going to work out. I mean really there is almost never upsets in wvw. In my tier Blackgate and SoR basically just trade off weeks of winning for the most part now that JQ lost a bunch of there guilds. Speaking to friends on other servers there matchups are about the same. I don’t see the final results of the tournament being any different from the current wvw standings so why even bother? And now withthe new orb buff the servers who are outmatched and outmanned are held down even more.
and if you got +- 30g you can exchange gold for gems so no real money needed, stop whining please. its do-able if you try it atleast more then once…
Stop whining? i’m so sick of seeing this…The guy just wants to play the content and actually get something for it. And for some people 30g is a significant amount to pay for an item that shouldn’t be required for content that is supposed to be fun. It was so “fun” I just bought the few skins I wanted and skipped it completely after I tried it with the nerfs to baubles and once a day time gating. And don’t pitch the “its optional” excuse because that’s weak. We keep excusing so many things in this game saying its optional but guess what, everything in this is optional because of the mostly horizontal progression system. If the endgame is going to be cosmetic then everyone wants to feel like they can reasonably get the new fotm skin and right now how skins are being done (be it buying keys to play rng or grinding mass amounts of time limited currency) is not fun or player friendly. When a game starts with junk like this its usually because of the lack of core gameplay that can produce something both challenging but rewarding and they try to cover for it by adding cheese mmo mechanics like time gating or the need mass temporary currency farming.

The reason we did the 1 life thing is because we found that lives were not meaningful if you can just pop back in, catch up with your party or die once and catch up with them. Now they are. We also added Continue Coins in each Zone chest, and they are in JP chests as well. And you can buy 5 of them for one Bauble Bubble.
Why did you remove the bubble baubles from the end chest and replace them with the coins instead, then? I think people would rather have the five coins then just one, or the bauble instead of a coin.
You’re supposed to buy the Infinite Continue Coin.
They reduced the number of lives you get for free, they added much more instant-deaths, they reduced the number of baubles you can get by far.
Once you buy the coin, lives become more trivial than they have always been and you can save your baubles for something other than extra lives.
Just buy the Infinite Coin if you enjoy the content and don’t recommend the game to anyone that has a marginal interest.
Why in gods name would you buy this coin and encourage further slimy p2w crap like this in further releases? If this goes over and a lot of people buy it you will see p2w garbage like this in EVERY update thereafter.
1.Pay to win
2.Not alt friendly (more once a day chest/dig spot garbage)
3.Lag
4.Bad collision
5. Just a glorified daily (need to run it every day for about 10 days just to buy 1 skin)The only positive is left in this freemium mess is the art design team. Kudo’s to them
1.How? You can farm 30g in 2hrs and pay for an unlimited coin.
2.So people dont farm them on first week and leave.
3.First day of content release, you are not the only one logging on.
4….
5.You can just buy the skin off the TP its like 3g.
.
They are worried about negating content by letting us farm it but buy the skin off tp….ya I see your point! I mean endless farming champs is totally different than bubbles for a bound goofy looking skin. Worked out great too because many like me said kitten this, bought a skin, and logged off till the 17th because there’s nothing here.

Wow, the point of SAB wasn’t to get impatient and buy a skin. It was to have fun for once.
It was fun. But now if you die you have to start with one life every time or farm a baubles to get a continue. Or of course buy the unlimited one. No intent to exploit the player base there…at least on my nes old Mario started with 3 lives and didn’t try to charge my credit card to buy more lives if I rage quit and hit reset.
I bought the pistol off tp and I’m done. Apparently even getting 1 bubble bauble out of the once a day chests was too Op. Essentially finished this living dead story in less than an hour using b2w. Back to LoL till the 17th. Great update…
(edited by kailin.4905)
How? Essentially you get 6 chances to get a skin per day for your entire account. 84 chances to get a skin. In the first SAB I bet I did over 200 chests to get the 1 skin I managed to find and I bought 1 with baubles. Now even those are much more time consuming to get.
Just a complete garbage cash grab when coupled with how much harder they made it to get baubles and that fact that once again the engine is giving much of the population fits due to the ever increasing lag. This game just gets worse and worse.
Now with the new changes its a complete waste of time. Once per day chests, lower bauble amounts… It was fun before running the levels and hitting dig spots and chests to earn a kinda goofy looking skin to toss on a rare weapon. Now its a just another time gated gimmick. Played through some of world 2, I’ll probably finish later than go back to better games till the next patch. Its a shame too because the actual level seems well done. GG whoever made it.
Nope. Engine is broken, balance is broken, basic features still missing, and I already payed for this once based on false promises.
Just shows how far out of touch with the community that they are as many times as they say “they hear us”. And by that i’m not referring to the chat spam, just the direction of things in general.
*and a better skin system (PVE locker)
I think people are just annoyed at the fact many of the “big changes” are things that should have been there one year ago. YAY LFG tool…thats standard in mmo’s now. Content thats not 1 spam? That is day one stuff. I hope there is more myself. There not bad changes but its stuff that should have been there all along in this gaming era.
I’m going to need the ability to stack gear just due to the amount of gear I have to carry around or keep in my bank just to keep the skins. Any plan on adding that? And now they are presumably adding all new SAB skins and ascended weapons… Anet we need a better system for this already. Is anything being looked at as a solution? You are hurting your own longevity of endgame by limiting how skins handled. Who wants to keep participating in events just to have to keep buying more bank space and have to worry about using anything they get because they may lose it. The system is counterproductive to the direction that you chose to be the endgame.

It is on reddit I believe. If not it can be found through google. I am just not comfortable linking datamined content as it has earned me infractions in the past.
Some data mining has found item descriptions suggesting stones or items that will allow stat changing on items as well as others changes to the skin system allowing skins to be removed, the skin underneath to be recovered, and the removed skin to be saved or applied to another item. Makes me think changes are in store. I really hope they are because the current system really don’t encourage much change.
Is anyone else hesitant to use skins right now due to potential changes to skins/transmution stones? I know some things about stone use has been datamined and this last update made previous rare skins tradeable. Personally I am hoping to see some sort of storage system akin to the PvP locker at some point. But in the meantime I feel like I don’t want to use anything because I don’t want to lose it or my current skins and then have sweeping changes come to the skin system shortly after.
This is the games’ “black sheep issue”, performance.
You will get 0 response from a dev on their own official forum(which might as well be reddit).
You will get 0 performance updates, one year is nothing when the mantra is “it will be done when it is done”
You will get 0 performance upgrades from future technology since CPUs are going parallel.
You will get 0 fps using the minimum recommended system requirements.
Couldn’t agree more. Its too bad because for the most part I do like the game but the performance isn’t getting better and I’m not going to buy a new PC to still get unacceptable fps when every other modern game runs great for me. When changing from ultra settings to everything on low im lucky to gain 5 fps, usually i gain like 2. To me it shows just how bad the code is in this game. Also as far a getting a response about anything that is what bothers me most. I used to work in customer support and if my people ever handled issues like they are handled here I would have fired the entire department on the spot.
Good luck getting a response, and just be thankful you don’t run an AMD cpu so there might be hope for you. Pretty sad when a new $1000 gaming rig that runs every other game at 60+ fps on ultra can’t handle gw2. And there has been zero optimization in a year.
Any plans to separate them? WvW and PVE are very different in my experience as to what settings are needed to play at a reasonable level.
Dont seem to be any pve options for culling in the graphics options panel.
The problem with what you are showing is you are talking about a condi build with 30 in spite which no condimancer ran until a month ago. Which is mainly what is creating the burst condition meta. With the current condition burst sustain is not as big an issue because targets die fast. Try a spec that’s not burst conditions (like necro pre patch) and thus was not the case. Also spectral armor only protects 33% damage and is now capped on LF generation by internal cool down. Its a decent skill now that I use myself, but if damage buffs are reverted it will not be enough.
you don’t understand
Using spectral armor AND going immediately after into DS ( as soon as you receive a strong burst ) will TOTALLY neutralize it, hell you’ll even gain LF: the mitigation doesn’t come from protection, but from LF generation with Spectral armor on.
Go to helseth/symbolic twitch stream, they’ll show you how broken it is ( i’ve tried it with spectral walk too, you can do it at 50% lifeforce and still being in DS after the burst).
This on top of protection given.
If that is indeed the case (not doubting you i just dont watch the videos) I see your point. I assume though it is an unintended glitch with the last couple patches though as ds even says “removes all spectral effects”. Still I feel I would like to see us do less damage and have more sustain through an intended means such a siphons. Not some god mode error by a net.

The worst thing is necros right now are almost forced to trait for burst condi’s because not much else is as viable. We don’t have the DD burst to run straight power. Don’t get me wrong, power is ok and we have some skills that do decent DD but nothing in the realm of 17k backstabs, 20K 100 blades, ofr mesmer shatters. Couple that with the nerfs to DS and LF generation that countered most of the survability buff to DS and LF generation in the previous patch and if you try to go DDvsDD your usually going to lose. Non burst condi was always what I personally wanted in a necro but thats not really all that good either because like I originally said we don’t have the sustain/escape to get them ticking and live long enough for them to work. For those that don’t know condi builds don’t generate LF that fast to use DS a lot. So the only thing left is burst conditions… Load up the target fast and hope they die before you get cc’d and focused down. I don’t like it either but if that gets lowered we need to get buffs in sustain to make conditions able to be used.
The issue is DS also took a huge Nerf in that damage now bleeds over into your HP so its not as effective as any other class with and invulnerability. As far as damage I think torment was enough of a condition cover. What needs to be done its blood traits need to scale at a decent level as we currently have a traitline that nobody uses and ds2 needs to go back to a short range teleport. Remove dhuumfire and look at the power of burning in general.
(edited by kailin.4905)
Everyone hating on necros but nobody remembers we didn’t ask for more offense . The necro community wanted more sustain and/or a viable disengage or invulnerably, which I might add every other class in the game has. We were fine with our damage, at least conditions wise, but just wanted a way to not get focused down every time before our conditions did any damage.
I was thinking more specifically about the eventual restoration of orr and how it would even be possible without some form of zone phasing.
Just thinking about some of the issues in gw2 compared to other mmo’s I can’t help but think that there servers and tech are rather lacking. Which leaves me wondering if there is any plan to invest a portion of there profits to remedy these issues. I find it a bit odd then when approached about concepts like tracking conditions on a per layer basis, restoring lost characters/items, or just general server side performance issues that very few improvements have seemingly been made over the past year. This is not to mention limitations on further content due to lack of server options like phasing. Not to directly compare to the juggernaut of mmo’s known as WoW…but this tech is not exactly cutting edge in todays realm of online gaming. So is there any plans to look into these things or is it simply a matter of gw2’s coding (which many have accused of being a weak code) is never going to be able to handle such features?
I have commented on this in several other posts in the general forum but also wanted to add to the suggestion forum that I feel we really need a pve armor locker. I believe that in a game such as this where the endgame is mainly ascetics that this is an increasingly necessary feature. As it stands many (including myself) get a desired appearance and rarely change it because the options to mix things up are so restrictive. Right now if you want to wear an alternative look you have to either a.)lose your current skin, b.)buy another exotic to put it on, or c.)use multiple t-crystals to swap skins around. In the long run it negates a lot of the cool things you are adding because its such a hassle to make use of them. I get that transmute stones/crystals = income for anet and I’m not saying they should go away. I think it should still require a stone/crystal to apply a skin but if we had a way to save skins such as a locker like pvp, then people would be far more willing to change skins on a more regular basis and in turn anet would actually sell more transmutes than they do now.
What’s really interesting, if you look at it. PvP gets a locker, where players care less about skins than they do about combat. Yet in PvE, we have to tote around all our “looks” in an environment that is much more about appearances and limited storage space. Seems pretty silly.
I’ve made a few posts about this idea over the past few weeks hoping a dev picks up on the idea and runs with it. Give us a locker. Even keep the transmute stones concept for all I care. But let us save our skins somehow.
Makes sense, still I wonder if things are different than they expected given some of the initial plans they had for the system.
One of the things I really thought was going to be interesting about gw2 was the ability to play in the market and potentially make investment to benefit yourself if you payed attention to market trends. To an extent you can do this with items you sell in the tp something comes along drastically increasing the demand for an item due to a new recipe or a nerf to the drop rate of something. The thing I don’t get is why we can’t play the gold to gem conversion in the same way. Initial conversation about the game and even several guides even states that we would be able to play the market on conversion and buy low/sell high ect. But if we look at gold to gems right now you can see thakittens about 3g50s to buy 100 gems, yet to sell back the same 100 gems only gets you about 2g60s . Now gems haven’t been available for that price in well over 4 months… I know there is some top secret supply and demand formula that they use but to me this does not make sense that there is such a large disparity between the two. It took a very interesting aspect of the game and completely negated it.
Communication involving this game is awful in every way. In game the chat options are not customization or user friendly at all. Chat in most areas is either non-existent or the gw equivalence of WoW’s Barrens nonsense (which can be ok in small doses). The forums are even worse because a lot here are either a hater or pure fanboys. And the developers do not communicate with the player base well at all on the official site, but more on facebook or twitter. The game itself is ok, and is getting better but the way communication in general is handled is downright the worst i have seen.
Well if this is the case at least they are an item that can be made year round then instead of something that the price will rise out of sight due to the mats being seasonal. And given the flood of cores due to the champion change the cost will fall at least a bit. Still I think unique with a long cooldown would have made a lot more sense.
The thing I really don’t get is how do you craft it once this event is over and sprockets are gone? They should have made it permanent and unique with a long cooldown like 1-4 hours. That way its actually worth making or buying and mesmers still get to keep there unique skill that apparently many feel is there only redeeming quality. I always thought they were good for warp and massive shatter but I guess its just mass transit…
Bump for more skins sitting in my bank.
Grats Kiel folks. I was honestly real torn over the election because I wanted Evons stuff but hated how he acted. I voted for Evon but am kind of glad Kiel won. Hopefully they don’t pull something and have her turn out to be a heel.
Or sell wardrobe set slots. Any of these things would be better than the current system. Especially given that it seems every 2 weeks a few new skins are being introduced.
For a game that’s all about cosmetics this should have been day 1 stuff. I’m really surprised this hasn’t gotten more recognition from the devs. It would be a major quility of life feature, the basics for it already exist in the game, and it would be profitable.
(edited by kailin.4905)
Its not inflexible…its designed to sell you transmutation stones from the gem store…which are probably one of the best selling items…working as intended.
How is it not inflexible when you lose the skin any time you use a new one? What many of us are saying it’s if you get to store the skin and still require transmute stones they would probably sell even more stones because of more access to and less punishment for changing styles more often.
The only one I personally know of is the final boss of AC which has a specific drop and if I recall that is a backpiece with no graphic. I always assumed that played into the reason AC was the dungeon chosen to be revamped to require more strategy. I do agree that the fights need to be fixed up but it would really have to be done in conjunction with improved drops otherwise it would really not be worth it. Right now I personally find it far more rewarding to farm gold from tier materials off common mobs and just buy skins than actually play the content to try to get anything. And that is a big issue with an mmo trying to push content
The only issue with that idea, as well as how zenith weapons currently work, is that anet gets no money from it. It would be great but they do need to make something from this to keep the game going. I guess it would be ok if there were more tp skins to sell to keep them going but right now there aren’t enough to subsidize them off what limited selection there is in the gem store. Still, even if they did this and just required transmute stones I bet they would make more off the sales of those alone.
