The main problem with spvp is that from the start this game has always rewarded bad play. Look an engis and hambow right now its just faceroll bad and it tops out any other spec in the game with zero skill. Same with MM necro, turrents and the old mesmer shatter builds. Pvp in this game has ALWAYS been based on what spec is able to be exploited most at the time. If you don’t play the fotm class and build your simply at a huge disadvantage. Worst of all Anet has shown they have no concept of how to balance there own game and really its a second thought to them trying to sell junk in the gemstore anyway.
I actually live that anet made an event that rewards strategy and coordination. The problem is I don’t think we have the tools to do it. No in game voice chat, even tegular chat is lacking and clunky. Also the change was so covert many thought it was just a bug or still don’t know what the blitz is. Then to top it off mega server makes it so you can’t have a specific group on a map. So people just ask where the zerg is and flood the area upscaling the boss so bad you can’t beat 1 in 7 minutes let alone 6. The idea is fine but if this theme continues we need more control and ways to coordinate.
I’m not much of a farmer being I can barely bring myself to log on anymore. However, I can’t help but think this was a terrible event to release at this time. Other than the feature patch we have gotten nearly nothing this year. Everyone was excited for the first real content release. And you come out with a butchered version of something people loved last year. Worst of all without saying a word or even having the courtesy to the community to acknowledge rumors of the events being bugged. At this point I think its safe to say this is “as intended”. But really grow a pair and say it. And if you wanted to Nerf it so bad from last year why release it first? So many people want to love this game but since launch it has really felt like every decision just screws the community and drives people away. I used to love anet, but since this game came out it feels like anet and the community are bitter enemies.

I think you just see more of it now because its such a bad meta so its easy for some jerk to play a cheese build, get a kill, and run their mouth. I’ve noticed way more “blowout” matches since this patch too which don’t help. But that’s just gw2 PvP. If your stubborn and want to press on with minimal name calling roll one of the golden classes, Google a build that exploits the current meta, and equip some strength runes.
You will never see gw2 as an export. The game is just too broken. They not only would have to balance the classes (which they obviously can’t manage), but also make the game more viewer friendly, and somehow do all this within the constraints of a game limited by bad coding and substandard server capability.
I’m ok at spvp. I have about 900 matches on my necro running mostly a terror/boon strip/condi spec. Today I met a warrior who I just could not kill. We were in skyhammer and this guy had two people dpsing him, was eating 3-4 skyhammer blasts, and could still stay above half health the entire time. Im no warrior expert but I saw he was using sword/shield, banners, shouts, and regen signet. It was so bad the engineer I was going after him with started sending me whispers saying how terrible I was (which I found funny being he couldn’t do crap either using a typical engi gimmick build). Maybe its just a hard counter to my spec but it seems like there was nothing I could do to kill this guy. Corrupting his regen just made him heal with his shouts till the regen was right back up. he had stability a ton to counter any fears, and he blocked any big damage i did manage to throw at him with his shield. What can you even do against a build like this?
Agreed, but Im not sure other than that how to give us more sustain in pvp. We already have a great heal, good hp, and, ds. Still I feel like I get focused a lot and have almost no defense when I do.
I love it. I sorta feel like we are one of the few classes that actually got anything decent out of the new GM traits.
If we even had a semi decent disengage or better sustain via siphons in smaller fights I would be thrilled. I think we are in an ok place atm other than getting focused too easy.
I did but I now have 2 left lol. Also it kind of stinks wasting them when your leveling an alt changing out gear every 10 minutes. I don’t really worry about my gear much till 80 but it seems a lot of people do. I just figured this would be an fairly easy fix for that.
I guess i can see the issue with icons although it could be limited to a set number just like bag slots. I’m not sure I really get what you mean about the pieces though. What I’m referring to is choosing the skinned look of 6 pieces of existing armor, then saving it as a “costume”. Essentially condensing the look you have into one costume. It would essentially use the resources that they already have in place, would have minimal impact on gem sales as it would still consume the same charges, and would give them another cosmetic item (the slots) to sell.
I mentioned it in a similar thread but what do people think about the idea of selling more costume slots? In its current form it wouldn’t be worth is as there are only like seven costumes. But if you could mix and match gear to save as a costume using transmute charges AND buy multiple slots I feel it would be a win win. People with alts or those who like having multiple looks get what they want and it encourages the sale of charges in addition to being able to sell the slot for 400 or 600 gems.
If they made it so you could set any combination of skins as your costume they could still charge for transmute charges and people leveling low level alts could have decent looking gear. Could even sell more costume slots so people could have multiple looks.
And mesmers…I swear every match I’ve had for days has at least 4+ mesmers. The rest is usually hambow warrior or bunker guardian with the occasional cheese build engi. Every other class is hit or miss at best atm. Nice balance

I think a lot of people are just thrown by how inconsistent gw2 has been with things. We go from ideas like no vertical progression to the introduction of ascended. From periodic updates to bi weekly, then back to periodic. From no information to weekly previews then back to no information. And that’s just a few quick examples. For anyone who does not know to check multiple sources (forums, twitter,youtube ect.) you really have no way of knowing half of whats going on.

Rewards and tracks are great. It makes we want to actually play pvp now. Problem is the balance is still garbage. In general I think it got a “bit” better balance wise but honestly the cheese builds still dominate and they always will until they are fixed. Nobody wants to get dominated in pvp because someone else is exploiting flawed game mechanics and thats how it is now.
Same here. I have lived on CB for ages dropping boon heavy guards and eles but since the patch it has been missing a LOT more again. I’ve literally had people standing in front of me and inch away, hit CB, and had nothing happen…its not all the time but its enough to be really annoying.
A decent combat log would be nice. Other than that I really don’t see the combat as something that will ever really be fixed. Maybe better but never really good. And its kind of a bummer because they did put thought into a lot of these skills and how x can counter y. Problem is y is hitting you from the side 1200 away while a mesmer has 6 copies of itself flashing in your face (not hating on mesmer just an example). And even if you do happen to see y hitting you and try x to counter it 50% of the time its out of range, blocked by terrain, or just flat out does nothing for who knows what reason. All that forethought and counterplay lost to a ui and engine that reward up close zerker spam. And even that has no feeling of impact. Its more like skating around waving your blade to make numbers come up.
Fix the camera already and tighten up the targeting system. Lower the spell effects. I also personally would love to see all damage nerfed about 1/3 across the board. Slow the fights down. Make any skill that is a “big damage” skill easier to see in pvp and add some strategy to bosses in pve other than 1 shot kills. If something can take half my life in 1 hit I should get at least a decent chance to see it coming. Maybe even work on the collision detection to make attacks feel like they carry some impact and characters have a presence.

Post Feature Build…yup still can’t see. I like most everything else but why in gods name have issues like camera, particle effects, or targeting still not received meaningful changes? And its even worse in pvp. In the ready up they want to talk about barrier to entry…Try walking into a match of still all zerk builds with a camera that swings all over, you can’t target what you want through all the effects and massive groups of pets and clones. Then you die it 5 seconds when you cant even tell whats hitting you or from where. Most new players will do that about 3 times, say “gw2 pvp stinks”, and never come back. Seriously good job with the feature pack but I still feel like when I try to do things in this game the engine and camera is more of an enemy than many enemies. Its no fun dying in a split second when you cant see or even if you can see for a second you hit a skill and it misses even though it should have hit.

My question is if transmutes (stones or charges themselves) will still be obtainable kinda like they are now. If you can still get them as rewards at a semi decent rate outside of direct purchase from the cash shop its fine. If they phase them out as rewards completely after the initial change over and force you to buy them with cash or by grinding gold its a bit more of a hassle.
And we move on to four months into the year with zero completed changes to anything outside temporary LS.
1. Skin Locker/skin system overhaul-its been too long not letting us actually efficiently use the skins that are supposed to be “endgame”. If this isn’t done I’m probably moving on because it feels like you get punished for playing and getting more skins.
2. Legendary hunt or quest of some type- I think this will add more purpose to playing the game by giving a new goal. They just need to find a balance between it being too easy or too buy to win/grindy. It should be hard but done in a way that pushes you to actually play content without grinding content or rolling rng.
3. Server optimization- the game still plays subpar for most people on good pc’s when it was advertised as being optimized for mid range systems. There is no reason for the load on the cpu to be what it is even for an mmo.
After that they really need to focus the majority of time on balance. At this point this is the least balanced mmo I have ever played and I’ve played mmos for the better part of two decades. If they never find a reasonable level of balance all the bells and whistles they add wont make any difference.

No wardrobe system in PvE is the biggest reason I have not played in a couple of months. I could almost forgive that they seem clueless with the direction of half of the class mechanics if I felt like I was at least getting something out of playing. As it is right now you get nothing for your time invested. Everything feels temporary. Even if I deal with the clunky balance and grindy content to get a skin I want I am forced to either spend money on bank space, spend money on transmute stones, or farm gold to trade for gems just to keep my reward. Which don’t feel too rewarding.
everyone knows about all those things mentioned. This was a brand new skill (supposedly) and was a complete flop. This was a chance for new content and even something that might have made vamp builds more viable and appealing. Not even close.
It was disheartening lol. Was almost a joke imo.
I don’t even get mad anymore lol. Just a game. I mean it is what it is. Who cares. lol I don’t feel it necessary to struggle with such imbalance anymore it’s like trying to build a house out of smoke. Not really gonna happen. Gotta take it for what it is. I play for the luls and stuff. Still fun fun

ESO is not looking good brother, people are jumping that ship. the game wouldnt be ready for release if they worked on it for another year.

Did I miss something? Was this officially announced as coming out of something? I basically stopped playing until a pve wardrobe is put in so excuse me for being out of the loop.
I kinda though the biggest flaw was there is no reason to keep doing the tower. I played about 4 hours and got all the achievements done already and I’m no great player. At first I died a good bit but nothing that felt too cheap other than the mobs CC. I just don’t see much reason for people to go back other than a rare chance at a gasmask skin that you get anyway for the meta. The meta is pretty easy, there’s no other skins to get, and its hard enough that its not a good farm.
Honestly, a meta that doesn’t take forever is what we’ve been asking for. People wanted to recieve the achievements by just doing the release rather than having to do x number of things over and over again and grind.
I say good job on the achievements this time around Anet.
Not saying its bad. I actually liked it all for the most part. Just don’t know how re-playable it is for 2 weeks
Does anything even come out of the chests worth “trying” to get? I know you can get the gasmask but you get that anyway and maybe the spore backpiece . All I’ve seen personally are blues, greens, and ascended mats. But there are FAR easier places to get that. Maybe if the new weapon skins had a small chance to drop I would try to get one but I doubt that is the case.

Agreed. I currently have probably 20+ unused skins in my bank. I never use them because I don’t want to lose them after many hours of work or hard cash spent on them. Something needs to change with this fast because if people are hesitant to actually use the only thing we get as a reward whats the point of them continuing to play? Do the devs even understand how big a deterrent this is?

Here in lies my issue. We can not sustain long enough for conditions to do there job in many cases. I assume this is why dps was buffed, viewed as op, and is now being “shaved”. I like the DS changes of late as well but your only focusing on 1/3 of our sustain. I welcome anyone at anet to explain to me how a 35-40 hp siphon is supposed to equal any amount of sustain particularly when we cant heal in DS, have no evade type ability to counter 1 shot abilities in pve, and many of our utilities hurt us to use. Right now we necros have to jump through hoops and watch little green bars that we waste essential trait slots just to fill up to get the sustain other classes get simply by speccing a certain trait line.
So how about they raise the scaling to make siphons heal for like 100 BUT the entire party gets healed for that? I don’t think 100 heal is op given the average health pool of 20k+ and it would help the necro be more accepted in a support role.
The LS content is designed as a rush tactic. Its supposed to make you feel like your going to miss something if you don’t finish it or buy the limited time items. By its design it pushes players to keep returning and opening there wallet often getting very little to show for it. Its a ongoing circle of hype, hope, and reluctant participation being used to nickle and dime the community every two weeks.
In the long run the league and buying guilds will be the death of wvw if not the game. Yup, people are going to say I’m exaggerating, QQ, or I must be on a loser server but just look at the score in the first few weeks. 90% of all matches are blowouts due to natural server imbalance, transfers, and buying coverage. So let me ask you…how fun will wvw be when nobody else shows up? You own all 3 bl’s and there’s nobody flipping anything for you to flip back? Do you really think people on us “scrub” servers are going to keep just being bag farmed or will they eventually just go play pve or another game? Its not like any amount of skill can overcome being outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1. And if people on these servers want to think its there superior strategy or skill causing the scores you delusional. The way I see it unless something changes very soon it will be very lonely at the top.

I actually have to admit I have a good track record against thieves but its more because of the thieves than myself. If they are aggressive and stay in the fight coming at me i usually beat them with sheer aoe. The ones who keep resetting the fight are impossible though. Eventually you run out of LF and have your utilities on cooldown. If I see a thief doing this I usually just leave the fight and hope I can get away. Never chase them!
In theory with thieves the intended way to fight them is to evade/absorb there initial burst, in our case with DS or evade because we have no block or invulnerability. Then immobilize and burn them down or aoe them down fast due to there low hp. Problem is in reality we have limited immobilize, there stealth drops our condi’s like crazy, they have near perma evade, and they can just endlessly reset the fight until you can’t avoid the initial burst because your out of LF and endurance.

Any further work being done on blood traits? Particularly siphons? The last patch changed nothing with those. They are still useless and go predominantly unused. If I trait and gear for max healing my siphon goes from a 37 to a whopping 43…

In the long run I really think its going to drive people away from the game in droves more than anything to date. I know on my home server entire guilds are walking away from wvw and in some cases the game more than I have seen since launch. As someone who is VERY critical of anet to the point I have not really played in a few weeks due to direction of the game I have to agree that the communication has improved at least on this topic. Changes will always meet resistance and mixed reviews but what has always bothered me most is when changes happen that are totally off base from what classes are having issues with, and then there is no communication for weeks if ever as to why the changes were made. At least having more back and forth with the community helps us understand anets motives and makes them seem less like evil overlords. People are a lot more forgiving if you make them feel like your considering them in your decisions and will be a lot more accepting if/when things don’t quite pan out like you thought.
Just wondering if JP could give any insight into why necro blood traits weren’t addressed at all? I know as a guy who has over 1k hours on my necro main I have played condi builds and power builds but have never touched anything in the blood line. At least in the sense I was trying to make a siphon type build. Most of our community see it as the worst trait line by far. And even your own guys have said its just bad. Although the other lines aren’t perfect by far they are in way better shape than blood. Im still kind of befuddled that the last patch made all these tweaks to siphons, scaling ect and it was all seemingly to make then function the exact same way as they did before the patch. I fully get shaving us in certain areas. I actually (like many other in our community) am fine with lower damage. We don’t want to be the emo version of ele’s. But we need sustain and we really don’t get why that is being ignored.

A bit upset that after all the comments made necro is not mentioned at all.
So what’s the devs viewpoint of blood traits? Everything was mentioned by JP except those and that line is still the worst/least used of all. They openly admitted it was bad and the last round of changes left them the same as before. Hence aren’t they still bad?
