0/30/0/30/10, and 0/30/20/20/0 imo. 2nd one for stab on earth which will let you get away cleaner. First providing more dodges, health, cleanses, and swaps.

IMO you don’t want to be solo in WvW for very long with s/d because the escapes are very limited. If you just want to troll and make insta-gib videos, then add some fire talents and go bananas.

Wat. Thief has been doing that since release, with way way way more escapes if it fails. The ele uses 100% glass in the traits and gear to accomplish this. You can probably crit an ele for 20k easily when they’re using this spec, and their max health is around 11k.

And I do always move out of churning earth. If I get immobilized, I use updraft when they lightning flash to me. 1s evade +knockdown. I win. Burning retreat with staff. 1s evade +burning. I win. You only lose if you don’t see the channel. That’s how thieves win. That’s how most every class wins when running glass. Burst on someone who doesn’t expect it. However a thief can just go do it to someone else in a very short cd. An ele has to leave the area and wait for cds.

Because 3.25s cast time is instant, right?

TC finally got their WK back this afternoon when we were out-manned, and two other commanders in the channel wouldn’t stop talking about Stonemist and other crap on another map.

I didn’t die once as a staff ele in those 4 hours+ with a commander tag on.

One thing I did yesterday or the day before:

Had a hard fight with myself and a mesmer vs a necro and an engie. I swapped out lightning flash for signet of earth and used magnetic grasp+signet on the necro every time it was up. If the engie was hard focusing me, I had to run out for all cds to be up. This let the mesmer 1v1 with the necro a bit. We were both trying to get the necro down first because of the spike damage. Won vs them once out of the three times. The combined cc, with condi pressure is really too much.

Please make toughness negate condition damage. That is the only thing that will ever balance things overall. The nukes with condis right now will take you from 21k health to downstate and people know they can do this. That’s why there’s way more necros now. It’s just so far out of sync that I don’t think they’re even paying attention to what is happening. The damage will burst you down in mist form, or using anything that negates damage. There’s nothing you can do at all when you have more than 4 condis on you. It’s just -BAM- downed.

It makes me sad to see just how much work (and gold) people go through to try and find that solo D/D spec again.

My biggest issue is getting away from warriors that are going to be at the front of the group chasing you. Take EBG for example. There’s just so much ground you have to cover to get to a safe location again.

I decided to do a PVT ascended set. I am taking my time to make it, not throwing gold into buying the cloth already made. I have 2.5 pieces made so far, that aren’t infused. I switched out of melandru runes because I can’t stand having to use a trait or utility or heal for extra movement speed, and put travelers in it. I guess I still have the option to buy some celestial ascended pieces at this point as I’ve only done legs, boots, and started coat (all due to the fact I like the appearances of the armor lawl). PVT trinkets are a bad option, as the damage is terrible. Celestial are decent. I find clerics lackluster, as they still under-perform as bunker. Clerics and celestial shine if you’re just going to try to flip camps, but lets be honest, high crit damage will annihilate npcs. So right now I’m running zerker trinkets (with agony stuff on it instead of wvw stats, because it’s used in fractals lol). This is about 50% crit damage, I think.

So for specs, I’ve had mediocre success with 0/0/20/20/30 stab on earth attune. But it’s very hard to get out of combat with this, even with FGS up. I’ve not really tried a 0/20/0/20/30. But it seems like having reduced RTL, with reduced cantrip LF will be key, and pump out the good 1v1-3 damage required.

I’ve been having problems with rifle warriors with pvt because their health barely moves, and I find it hard to avoid all of the killshots. Not really sure what we’re supposed to do vs necro as D/D. Probably should just run away and switch to x/F.

I have partial cav trinkets I will try, with zerker in the rest of the slots. I didn’t really know about cav armor until a week after the big patch.

As for Magi’s, we would actually want something like Vitality, Power, Precision. In spvp the zerker gear has vitality on it. I know there’s some ascended stuff that have 4 stats on it. My zerker amulet has Power, prec, vit, and crit damage. I bought that one by accident, and never really changed it.

The settler’s ascended is another interesting option over PVT. It’s VPT. This would help vs condis, but nerf our damage in the process. Seems like a good set to run if you were going to do diamond skin, I guess. Or just generally want to max out a VS-condis setup. Probably good in GvGs.

I change my spec and trinkets multiple times every day. There’s nothing comparable to the old bunker of yesteryear. I think the kind of eles that bother me the most are perplexity, and those that don’t want to stop chasing when they know neither of us are going to die to each other.

Crit pieces = heal on crit food.
Most everything else = anti-condi food.
Lots of time running away = anti-condi food. Or Vital/Toughness if you’re cheap.

(So I hope the mods aren’t accusing me of derailing the thread for sharing my experience overall this time, as I like being able to post more than once a week, instead of compile a week of posts into one.)

Most people don’t understand how the ele class works and it’s amusing.
There are a lot of times people don’t rez downed. I don’t know why this is. I can understand if it’s in treb-fire or something, but otherwise you are deliberately giving the other team points, and not gaining any glory from the rez.

Common themes:
Anyone who spams the chat 5+ times in a row with the same message.
Anyone who complains about being beaten while out-manned. Not talking about the team having more people. Just losing to 2v1 or so.

Peeves:
People who leave skyhammer within 10s of it starting makes me unhappy, as it is already quite annoying to play.
People who tell me they’re spectating me to learn about the class and I end up playing horribly after.

Cleanse in master trait ruins fresh air/EA builds. That needs to be remedied. Regen on crit is only good if you have no other steady source of regen. It also ruins a 0/10/20/10/30 roaming spec with D/D.

I abhor everything based on diamond skin functionality as the condition damage with toughness plays very little role. The fact that diamond skin occupies 5% of every fight makes it as horrible as that joke trait “One with Air”. x/F is the only realistic application of DS imho.

I have the most success with 0/0/20/20/30, and 0/10/0/30/30 in WvW and sPVP. I’m going to play around with fresh air/cWave/eAttune next.

There’s no beating warrior or guardian when it comes to bunker D/D anymore and they need to fix it. Warrior health doesn’t move, and guardian hits way too hard though everything. Trying to take an engie off a point takes forever solo, and it’s easier to just leave them there.

Surely those opponents aren’t winning vs many others.

I was running 10 water: no cleanse with 10 in water anymore. Heal on crit food, knights gear. He’s also using chill on crit. Was partied with a yaks bend ranger to duel him when this child attacked.

Grats at having a counter to a universal spec. I don’t run 1v1 gimmick specs.

WTB Healing Power – Precision – Critical Damage accessories. That would make PVT sets more appealing for me.

Valk is still a good option because power is great for Eles, and the Vit is great for condi management. Running without precision (aside from 10 in air) is why I’ve leaned toward celestial trinkets 99% of the time for every set (with PVT backpiece).

After patch, if you’re going the diamond skin route, you’ll probably want to get as much clerics or celestial in as you can. You won’t need to worry as much about low toughness, and the extra condi damage will make up for the power drain. The vitality won’t be as big of an issue vs condis, but possibly vs burst from zerker mesmer or thief.
I gather most people aren’t convinced that the patch will be worth switching out of current bunker meta. Especially the 0/30/30/0/10 spec. that was mentioned. However fresh air/anti-condition sounds fun. And you get the stab on earth swap option. I’ll definitely be experimenting a lot, and buying more sets. Possibly Apoth.

Karma trained all day yesterday. That’s enough for the rest of the month. Sure, the loot was great; made a bunch of ranks, and gold, but I miss the fights. So lets have a go, shall we? Who’s with me?

Yeah, just be mindful of thieves skipping around on the sidelines looking for that. Also, focus target your heavies so you’re not completely blocked off from friendlies at any point in time do to a shift in movement.

If I have knights on and I’m running up on the enemy beside the heavies/ commander, I might even run ahead of them to CC a veil attempt, and get the tags in early. Then burning retreat away. This also makes some people forfeit their veil by trying to DPS me. Dangerous? Check. Smart? 50/50. You can usually gauge where a commander is going to through the veil by the direction the backliners move toward while entering the veil. You drop the CC there, and retreat opposite it.

I do crazy things like static/meteor while the enemy is running toward me, then lightning flash/burning retreat/mistform to gain as much ground as possible. They are using a lot of cds to get me down, and my zerg is running into them while they’re doing this. Their commander probably doesn’t even realize how bad for them this is.

I moved my boon duration set to my celestial gear because it lacks power and toughness, and therefor gains more might that helps with condi output, and brings the power up exponentially when coupled with bloodlust. It also increases the time on protection. I use this for D/D 3-5 man roaming, and sometimes in dungeons, as boon duration makes all of our boons carry over to our allies, and friendly npcs.

My PVT set is melandru, and knights has travelers. As to whether I have chosen the best sets to have those rune sets is yet to be determined. I have a zerker set with eagle runes for staff. I use the knights and zerker for staff, and zerker for s/d pve.

With 30 arcana, and no boon duration from gear, I average 13 stacks as D/D. That’s good enough for me. Most of the time spent in WvW is cleansing/ breaking out/ kiting when solo roaming. As thus, knights/traveler, and pvt/melandu excel at making it take the absolute longest for non-zerkers to get me even close to dying, if at all. While I might not win, I don’t die if I’m smart enough to break away when necessary. I really only die, roaming, to running into more enemies while having already used my cds in escaping others.

I miss having boon duration on either knights or pvt, though. Because having the swiftness kind of makes up for not running 25% movement speed. It’s a passive speed boost that works without wasting cds, though. At times I have even used windborne dagger instead of the vigor on crit, just to make a certain build work my way. I really dislike using signet of air.

With celestial I use power+vit food.
With staff I use 200 power on kill + 10% crit food.
With knights/pvt I use anything with power or vit on it as it doesn’t matter much.

I wonder, you guys running boon duration, are you more partial to -condition duration food, or +boon duration food ?

Well, when they added the movement speed to Mist Form, while still being a stun breaker, I like using it for places where I know I’m going to need to more than a cleanse. I can pretty easily lay down ccs, pop a mistform (with or without armor of earth) to get enough range to break combat. It makes it possible to avoid a lot of bursty specs from opponents when your other ccs are down.

Basically, never using mist form, isn’t really the best thing to do. But taking it out for cleansing flame, frost bow, signet of air, etc is also good to experiment with from time to time.

My personal playstyle is to float around action, solo roam, and rarely die, all while usually not being in a group at all. I’m almost always the one calling the targets in groups I’m in.

D/D is in a weird place right now. I’ve had the most success with PVT melandru/half clerics/half celestial trinkets. Full cleanse bunker/ 10 fury/sprint from air. My 2nd set I use is Knights with Travelers/ Celestial trinkets. This is is a nice spread of crit/crit damage/ and heals. This is fast for soloing camps, and small fights. Know when to alternate your heals. Necro will be next to impossible without Ether Renewal on.

For staff I alternate the talents based on how many people are with me, but retain the same general spec of 0/30/0/10/30. Fresh air for small fights. I figure the only time you’d want to use reduced air cds is when you know you won’t have to be as mobile. But that’s not really a good example. I sometimes switch it for fury/sprint on magnetic aura so I can move faster, instead of just from air swap, and wasting a windborne speed that I may need as a mobility cleanse. Because the statics can easily be bypassed, taking the extra damage while target is stunned doesn’t really give you as much damage as fresh air, single target damage finisher as swapping to air repeatedly. If you’ve got 2-3 other decent staff eles with you, and your goal is max burst, then static on air 30 trait is best, with 10-20 points in fire instead of 30 arcana, or 10 water. I’ve tried reduced water cds, but it’s nowhere near as useful as an aoe cleanse on water attunement. Especially if you aren’t going as far as evasive arcana. I really love the overall speed of swapping/ rapid cc that 30 arcana gives us. Your meteors are still going to do great without any points in fire. And you’ll be much more mobile.

Scepter air 1 used to be really good on one of the patches, but they took the number of targets off the arc down to 1-3 or something. It’s not worth using. Plus 900 range anything is crap for this class. The spvp specs are extremely lackluster when applied to a WvW setting. You’ll watch a video and go HAM on someone, then realize you can do that with staff and actually have a chance of getting range when you have to for escapes.

Make toughness play a roll in condition damage reduction already. This is so broken and garbage. The dec. 10 patch won’t help with it whatsoever.

Spvp makes me want to uninstall.

Make a zoo where one team has to cage the animals, and the other tries to release them all. Call the map: Forums.

I think most people wish the finishers at every 10 ranks, and titles take way too long (to accumulate,) and that makes it feel almost pointless to spend time in spvp. Play WvW and you get loot constantly.

I play spvp for the achievement points, to test specs/runes, and get those living story boxes.

Never played LoL. I played WoW until mid-cata, and only really enjoyed open-world pvp, and battlegrounds. Arena matches ended right when 1 person died 99% of the time.

I strongly dislike the amount of damage the treb does in spvp. I strongly dislike underwater combat. I dislike skyhammer since my class doesn’t have a pull, and my knockbacks are all bad. I am looking forward to the Dec. 10 patch, even if my spec. will likely be the same.

This game being FTP makes it the most logical choice for pvp for me.
