I find staff easier to deal with thief because you put aoes under you and sit on them.
^Or you hit the same element a 2nd time to have the same effect as unravel. I don’t see why you’d waste a util slot on unravel?
I have celestial, marauder, minstrel, and trailblazer so far.
I moved cele to my necro, and trail to my mez for the time being. Will prob reacquire cele to ele in expansion if I bother playing it.

25 vuln 41 bleed 38 other is like the norm now with all the turbomancers in this mag matchup. It’s so dumb to be able to stack that high.

ok I enjoyed reading this with my coffee this morning. Some very good points from each side of the coin.
When I play meta bunker ele, the most rage moment comes from a reaper that condi bombs you, you have a couple instant cleanses available, but then he will fear you after a 2nd application of condis that also boon strip. Then you get chilled on top of wells with twirly staff reaper fairy stuff (i just describe what i see ok).
To break that down with what was suggested above is you usually want to avoid being near a necro in melee range (as most classes), especially when they are in repear.
I’ll add this to the top: You only fight a condi necro to save your teammates (as an ele).
That being said, this is what happens most of the time: You already have a lot of long duration buffs on you from minstrels, or will have them as soon as you cleanse the first time. These then turn into massive stacks of vuln with damaging conditions. If you don’t have earth cds available you die. [P.S. meta bunker ele only has stab on earth overload, so in wvw you are probably going to have to use armor of earth to guarantee you can heal. If you swap the heal + vigor on aura for stab on all attunements (the thing every staff ele requires you to do if you want to live without a babysitter rev+guardian) you basically remove the viability of your spec as support/tank.] So ok, armor of earth is there so you have a guaranteed, uninterruptible heal. Except for the fact you need to run away from the necro (who is easily faster than you, even when you give yourself swiftness) while cleansing. Usually I’ll go in and use an instant aoe cleanse “feel the burn” with trooper/soldier runes (whatever it is outside of pvp). This will remove 1 condition on everyone and put up a fire aura on them, that will apply vigor and regen (to me! because i don’t use aura share in place of remove a condition on regen tick in wvw, because that does not work at all. It worked at maybe the start of HoT, but now you need all the regen on yourself or you’re always dead). The aura will put regen on people though with elemental bastion. To reinforce what i just mentioned, cleansing water is the closest thing to resistance an ele can have. It is just too good. Perhaps it is best used with staff, but when you’re pug roaming you have to look out for #1 or the enemy will take a #2 on you (bahahahah).
This is getting long-winded so I’ll just post the closest thing to what you need to play tanky ele nowadays: WvW Godmode
Saunter in (because ur slow and casual), feel the burn (feel the tickle), swirling winds (air), shocking aura (cause aura procs). If team is moving away>fire attune, fire aura, burning speed away. Otherwise you pretty much have to armor of earth + wash the pain away to save them. This puts you at instant risk of boon strip/corrupt, fear, chill, twirlytard combo, so you need earth 4+5 if that happens. Then overload earth on top of the necro to cripple them. You have one escape left at that point >lightning flash> gl not being immob’d. In this scenario you are trying to rescue teammates who are not going to be able to help you because they’re dying from their own inability to play the game. (Yeah, I said it.) Go in, cleanse, heal, interrupt before everyone (or just you) gets interrupted to death. You then go into water for all the good stuff to keep everyone up, try to comet the necro.
I feel like I need to make a descriptive video for all of this, because it’s a wall of text otherwise. And every situation is different. Necro is biggest aoe threat to small groups, especially in tight spaces like the housey area south of overlook in EBG. Every necro is always going ham with their abilities, just like I am with my ele. I’ll probably delete this post. I’m sick of typing now. bye

Hardened siege should be removed.
Arrow cart firing speed should be reduced, and they shouldn’t apply cripple. Bleed makes sense, but the damage of a superior AC is insane. It’s like 2500+ on 50 people for 1 ac every 3s. Shield gens do not block arrows. Was this intentional?
Traps should disappear if the owner is more than (to be fair) 10000 yards away from it. I love walking out of a portal into traps with no enemies in the entire radius of where I am. Reduce all trap duration to 30s.
I like to drop feast of seaweed salad for the enemy to kill my team faster. I hate my team.
Roaming, however, isn’t fun anymore. As someone who only plays Ele, what I’m usually fighting are thieves, mesmers, and druids. I can’t catch up to any of these, and I don’t want to considering how many escapes I lose trying to do it. Condition damage is way off the scale with massive bursts from corruption, traps, and rapid stacking. After HoT release my WvW activity is probably 1/3 of what it used to be, with half of the time being afk. I’m not going to be some slow-poke healer for a blob because anet doesn’t know how to develop my class.
I don’t find the weekly ticket cap too low considering you’re getting an ascended piece of armor at each stage. It’s actually quite easy.
My fav finishers are: Guild finisher that shows guild logo and plays a sound, and of course rabkittenickenado, and the bull that sits on people are honorable mentions.
Chest and legs look great on charr. I got the chest so far. Then that new outfit came out in gem store and I stopped caring again.
List of potentially OP wishes:
Scepter
1. Ability to finish a previous overload after swapping attunments.
2. Bouncing lightning on scepter air 1 (like we had for that 1 week).
3. Dragon tooth animation to complete in 1s instead of an hour later.
Dagger MH
1. Instead of air 2 that misses all the time and applies weakness, have it daze someone up to 600 yards away.
Focus
1. Earth 5 invuln gives added resistance. Right now when you swap to earth you need to hit 4 and 5 and you can still die with how obnoxious condis are.
Lightning flash 1200 yards, 30s cd, remove damage component. (This actually isn’t OP at all.)
I really want this class to be better than it is right now. Condies are just stupid. I can’t put it any better than that. You got to pray just to make it today.
1. Quickness that improves cast speed instead of just movement.
2. 10% healing to myself, not others.
3. More than just blind procs for dps specs (in pvp/wvw)
4. On crit sigils back in spvp.
5. Ability to gain resistance instead of always have to cleanse/heal.
6. Incoming corruption to not match the stacks of buffs I have on. This one shots you in WvW. Combat log won’t tell you that either.

For the dual attune setup I’d go F/A staff, E/W d/f for a dps that can bail out danger when needed. The stat setup is yet to be determined, pending new condi specs.

Signed. I get 90% tonic transformations and like 4 low timed buffs after 50 clicks usually. It’s time consuming and annoying.

Other games offer free loot and such, and it helps the game community when you stream/watch other streamers playing the game(s).

I’ve seen this topic brought up several times with devs saying that it was a bug that they weren’t there.
As it is now, playing a healer requires you to mouse over each person or look top-left to find their class and conditions. This doesn’t cut it for the condi game we have now.
P.S. I’ve seen Leeto stream this game’s spvp with both teams having health bars above their head at all times. obv Cheater.
(P.P.S. I miss my sigil of blood. No on crit/kill sigils. oh boy!)
Jski, have you seen my white charr staff ele in EBG (on Mag)? If so, I’m sure you can attest to the validity of fire damage. I haven’t played for a couple days, though. It works really well in EoTM, too. Staff with fire is the one spike damage that resist-all warriors and revs need to watch out for; and necros coming out of shroud. A lot of plate wears in WvW are not high toughness because they can afford not to be, until a dps ele shows up. Burning retreat, lightning flash, reflect, blind on burn (sometimes used), overloading are all great for making glass a valid option. Although my 6pc is mauraders, along with both rings. You just need to tuck yourself back into your group when there’s any gank playing outside, and never try to rez anyone because an epi will slaughter you 9/10.
Man, if arcana reduced overload times as well as attunement cooldowns…
Without cele ammy and cleric, eles fell off quite a bit in spvp. It is still the only class I play, though. I have like 10 games on ranger, and 3 on necro or something. Think that’s it. You can get to legendary each season if you want, but it’s not exactly fun (solo queue perspective).
I would definitely not go ele for pvp reasons. But they are required for a lot of raid content. I don’t know what your current class is. Maybe try rev if you just got HoT recently.

I wasn’t suggesting using fire with arcane at all.
My staff spec for WvW is Fire/Air/Temp.
There’s no reason to ever use staff unless it is for max damage and control, because there is no valid survivability for eles outside of kill asap and max tankiness that d/f gives. Scepter is still awful. Dagger offhand still awful. I’ve used warhorn to be a reflect+boon spam hero from time to time.
Arcane by itself still doesn’t have an elite tied to it. I personally dislike everything in arcana tied to arcane. Arcana should be reworked into giving us more boons, cooldowns, and defense, and move away from applying condies that we don’t have a proper spec for. Our best condies are vulnerability and burn on the damage spectrum, and chill on the defensive. Those need to become the focus for going foward to building a strong class given what other classes bring to the table.
Another thing I didn’t mention was our lack of stealth option for what is, lets face it, the best escape in the game. I’m not saying we should ever have stealth. I would rather work toward getting quickness more readily than having to run s/f fresh air to do it. Staff with fresh air is horrible damage output. I do, however, use quickness on air attune at times when a lot of movement is required. D,D,U is the best air setup, unless you are playing a CC support ele, then staying in air for static/lightning strike (single target)/lightning rod combo with chill fields, and unsteady ground for max annoyance is definitely another fun aside to the norm. AoE hard cc is lacking in the current meta outside of fear well, lines, rings, and traps. There are so few staff eles now. I think a lot of staff eles are playing healer if anything, which is wrong imo.
Arcane elite that resets the cd of all arcane utilities on a 45s timer.
Fresh fire type skill for staff damage to shine. Biggest possible burst is going into air after a meteor for a static to proc a 2nd damage modifier, but you have to avoid doing overload fire, and lose might stacking/mobility. So if we could crit our way back into fire, that’d be sick.
Also, get rid of all these outgoing healing things in the game. I want to heal myself like a boss. Nobody else is frontline with me in WvW. They scurred.
P.S. Someone posted shield as one of the possibilities of new weapons. If we get something crap like that I’m quitting forever.

More dps is always preferable to less dps. It means killing stuff faster, which in turn means stuff poses smaller threat. There’s literally no reason to not run full glass in the open world. Even on HoT maps.
My 2nd set is maurader. It’s just a little bit extra room. Especially at the circle run before the dargon in DS.
Change the cd on elemental weapons instead of give them more charges. 180s for fiery greatsword, our best escape, best damage (more than meteor in corners), does utilize look-behind attacks if you want to charge back at someone, and also the best application of condis from frost bow. Elemental weapons need work because they are the most thematic to the class overall.
In the 2nd video you should use your heal while invlun was active in earth.
I really don’t think you should use burning fire, though. See the other thread about it.
Good use of kiting vs range by hugging around corners.
When rezzing someone with ranged dps attacking, use the earth reflect first, before invuln. It will stop them from killing both of you, and potentially interrupt them.

Contesting the structure without siege shouldn’t be a thing at all.
Flash freeze does damage, cc, and gives 10% damage reduction as support, which is an aura, that procs auramancer traits. It is the best chain cc with other water, earth, and air that the ele has access to in pvp.
I used to use feel the burn (due to it’s no cast time), but it doesn’t offer any protection from anything, and a fire aura isn’t useful anywhere compared to the other shouts.
The majority of incoming condies are from ranged spells, and thus aftershock is great for that. It’s only 5s longer of a cd than the stunbreak, but it also procs aura traits.
My hopes are that eles get a better shout set of runes. Radiance runes aren’t worth taking for the aura aspect. We need more shouts, more often. There’s so much potential with tempest they could work with. Sand squall is pretty amazing, but warhorn just doesn’t cut it. You can’t just reflect forever without a babysitter. Retal is a much easier mechanic to gain in retrospect. Our reflects need to gain a type of damage modifier from somewhere to really shine.
