Kind of just a lesson in probability, there…

If FA thinks they’re winning because they’re better, do they think they lost T2 every time because they’re bad? Did their pvp skills really improve the instant they dropped down a tier? I really don’t get the obsession with score from some people who must realize that wvw score is based on population and coverage.

I think a lot of us on Maguuma just enjoy smaller group play, like taking keeps with 4 people. Learning how to bust terrible zergs has been fun, but the matchup itself is incredibly predictable and boring. It’s like clockwork at this point.

If we drop down a tier, we’re probably going to stomp there in terms of score and be back the following week. I don’t think we’re going to be less bored in that matchup, but it will be something new at least.

This matchup has officially run it’s course and has become just plain boring now. I don’t know if I can take another week of this matchup it’s just the same thing every day

- 12AM-5 AM EST FA makes the maps green
- 6AM-12PM EST DB makes the maps blue
- 1PM-7PM EST Mag takes back there stuff and pushes both servers and for a while the battle is even.
- 8-11 PM EST FA wakes up and starts taking the majority of the map while Mag goes to bed and DB starts to trail off.

It’s like clockwork now. Something needs to change.

What he’s saying is somewhat how our known commanders who have had the icons since they were available or soon after grew in command ability. None of us knew anything about each other then and we did some crazy stuff in our squads, much of which was obviously a horrible idea…then a keep or map later..

The most solid way to build a team is to get into the action and blow stuff up. I can agree that if someone is consistently being an idiot and wasting our resources then they need to be fired, but let an aspiring commander try to command once or twice first, since we don’t care so much about winning or so we say in these threads.

Sure, let them try. When did I say not to? If they’re not receptive to learning, then let them continue to die on their own. Not sure where all this confusion is coming from.

We have a public mumble, and the regulars in there are known. They know what they’re doing. If any of them got an icon I would follow them. When a newbie shows up with an icon, they should know what to do too. It’s quite easy to command through a public voip without an icon, or offer advice or ideas through it that will be effective. Turning on the icon only comes into play when you need pugs to follow you for extra supply or meatshields. If some new random shows up and doesn’t know what they’re doing, I’ll simply ask them to turn off their icon until they learn.

As I said, if they’re doing good work, I’ll follow. If not, and if they don’t appreciate any criticism, then they can continue to wipe doing something terribly dumb.

Yea I try to speak out against the trolls who are critical of players learning the ropes. I think more just need to speak out.

I don’t know if trolling is why people don’t follow commanders. I think most old Maguuma players are just so used to no icons that we auto pilot on what we should be doing based on that map, so sometimes icons get ignored.

That does happen especially when the threat isn’t great. But often times, new commanders are shamed and embarrased publicly so that they don’t leave their icon on. THey don’t end up leading much and learning much. The server is then dependent on the playing schedule of a few well known commanders. This is just to point out that there is an attitude issue with some players on Maguuma against newbies and it hurts the server in the long run.

Commanders shouldn’t turn on their icons when they want to learn. They should turn on their icons once they know what they’re doing.

If a new icon pops up and it’s someone I’ve seen play competently and offer good advice in team chat, I will follow them. If it’s someone new doing something stupid, I’m not going to help them, but I’ll whisper them politely later explaining why it didn’t work. We had a commander trade an upgraded east keep in an enemy BL for a paper SE tower. I whispered him on why that’s a terrible idea and he ignored it. He became the laughing stock of the server and he no longer uses his icon, so mission accomplished.

D/D ele’s are pretty good commanders from what I’ve seen, they are excellent at being the “tip of the spear” in open field pushes, which is pretty important. The worst choice for a commander would be a thief, ranger or engineer – in my opinion of course.
I don’t think anyone on FA keeps track of how many commander compendiums are purchased and activated on our server in total but fear not; we all know the difference between the ones who buy it for status and the ones who WvW and actually have a clue on what to do.

Yeah I suppose even when we have 1 on, we know if they’re worth following. And I can see d/d ele’s leading a charge, but I hope people don’t follow them when they run away to reset their health, as well.

How many commanders are on FA? In all the screenshots and in-game I never see less than 3. Maguuma has periods of hours where we have 0 or 1.

When everyone has an icon, is it just a status thing at that point? I mean I’ve seen seen d/d eles with icons, which has got to be the most useless class to have an icon on.

Just to clarify on a few things brought up in this thread:

-Gears can be purchased just north of the Tunnels Waypoint in Brisban Wildlands. Once you use the gear, the #3 skill provides a short stun with no cooldown and a range of 900.
-There are invulnerable zones in both the SW and SE supply camps where players can stand and be immune to damage. A lot of players disagree on whether this is simply part of spawn or a most dishonourable tactic.
-You can resurrect a friendly player through a closed enemy gate due to the range on the revive ability. A mesmer can then portal a group past the gate into a keep or tower.

Arenanet has not commented on any of these, but they normally close threads that even mention what they consider to be an exploit. I’d expect all of these will be patched out eventually, but no word yet. Enjoy!

I rarely remember to buy food when I get time to log on, other then that I just mooch off of Myguuma. I can pretty much guarantee the people I know who are upgrading and placing siege and keeping the server alive aren’t going to spare any change on gears.

Whaaaat Leafy buys upgrades and repairs and builds siege on his own all the time.

Gotta give props to that FA mesmer for hiding so long and avoiding being found. I question the time you chose to portal in, though. Your teammates were hammering at the outer wall so we were all streaming through SM at the time. You should wait until things calm down a bit before you try something like that.

edit: Honestly, we’re fine with cool people and/or spies coming to hang out. The info shouldn’t be hard to find. It’s just sad that FA commanders, who have the superior numbers in this tier, feel it necessary to spy in order to try and win a few battles.

I like BT. They’re unique, at least. They don’t bore us with 4 hour treb wars for west keep. A few of their members are bad posters but hey we have OG so I shouldn’t point fingers.

And speaking as a Maguuma player, I haven’t noticed anything like that about BT except they like to run in circles and seem to do fake siege attempts on towers to catch our newbies out in the field. (I suspect they’re fake simply because they’re so sloppy – BT, stick to what you do best.)

I’m not saying that’s the case at all, but instead of turtling up in your Keeps and Towers, don’t let that happen! Make a move and tryyy to make a seige more interesting.

FA does not have dedicated WvW guilds that use gears, golem in a box, or consumables of that nature cause that in no way will make your group more effective. I think I can speak for most of the guilds on FA when it comes to this, but if we won’t try to get an upperhand using cheap consumables, in no way would we need/want to get an upperhand by sabotage.

Maybe Maguuma needs to decide if you want to be in T4 or compete. “Almost back to T4! Hopefully Yak’s holds on” but “wahhhh they’re beating us”. Make up your mind.

Maguuma is not one person. Thank you for the compliments on our defense. The larger guilds on Maguuma are required to use gears or we will be kicked, so apologies if you got gear’d.

Mesmers can portal past gates and walls. You should search for them and kill them, then watch their bodies in case a friend attempts to resurrect them. Someone on your server likely knows some of the common mesmer hiding spots in the various keeps and towers. Ask them for a tour sometime.

Convenant, I’ve been meaning to ask you this since you joined Maguuma, but then you left really quickly for some other server and now you’re on a new one again so I never got the chance.

Keeping an entire group permanently stunlocked without a cooldown is just as much an exploit as breaking the map to enter a keep without knocking down a wall or gate.
