Let’s see 650g per light set…..

1 zerk, 1 assassin, 1 sinister, 1 celestial, 1 soldier for light….
(not even factoring in medium and heavy sets)

so 5 * 650g…… and that’s just for my account….

.

What light armored profession are you playing to take advantage of each of these stat spreads to warrant even making an ascended set of each of these? I’m genuinely curious.

I just hope people realize that if you’re getting absolutely rolled by a Mesmer, they’re not only working harder than you are to achieve this, but they’ve also dedicated insane amounts of time to a class that still has very little in terms of a role that they can perform that no other class can outside of slotting in portal. I.e. they’re a better player than yourself. But hell they worked for it.

Heard it in FF14, and it came across as just plain silly. With the particle effects and everything else going on, the game doesn’t really need more distractions.

Also, if you get slammed into by the zergtrain railroad, you kinda had it coming. =P
I know I did, and it was hilarious. It reminded me of my days as a larp NPC. XD

Yeah I don’t find it particularly hilarious whatsoever. I’m not entirely sure where particle effects come into it, since it’s purely audio.

They do have it in Final Fantasy XIV and it’s great really, only there it has no actual purpose. In a game with large scale fights and huge groups of people moving together it would actually serve as a purpose.

This is not just a WvW suggestion henece why I’m not posting it there, but for me it’s long the same vein as having an ocean with actual waves (which is missing from most maps, and it just kills the immersion but I digress).

Would it be a nice feature for a group of say upwards of ten people to be accompanied by a kind of ‘stampeding’ sound, scaling with how big the collective group of people are? I’m not even sure if this is technologically feasible, but it would improve quality of life in terms of immersion and also in terms of WvW matches .

How a group of 30 people can silently run up to…well anything is beyond me, and it’s frustrating to say the least.

Thoughts?

I’m going to be honest, you still need to put in too much effort for too little return, and frustratingly Mesmer unlike other classes has no true defined aspect that it brings to team play aside form portal and being a WvW veil bot.

I’d disagree with that. Mesmer brings a huge amount to team play. The issue is the complexity and sacrifice of having to build around the Mesmer to make it work.

Name one thing besides portal that the Mesmer does better than anyone else. What are these ‘huge’ amount of things that Mesmer brings to teamplay? Besides one specific utility skill. Please go on.

I agree with Flumek, courtyard was a great idea to put in, but it has turned into a Zerg Death Ball map. Who ever has faster AoE burst wins, and it usually means a 500-0 win. I think that if the map were to be changed to 3v3 max or even 2v2 it would be allot better.

People’s MMR must honestly suck big time if they’re getting teams playing like this, because I have had none of these experiences whatsoever. Does it make us wonder?

People are having to play fontline and backline roles like they did in Guild Wars 1 and it’s a little too hard for them at this point. Adjust, become better.

With that in mind however:

It SHOULD however be a separate game-mode, purely on account of the fact that it can take a lot more effort to win one of these matches (with or without adjusted rewards). This is coming from personal experience, as I’ve been matched with pretty even teams and sure it’s been hectic and stressful as heck, but I haven’t seen any ‘zerging’.

Call targets, communicate. It works. You’ll get better, it’s understandable considering we’ve had no other game mode for something like two years?

Re: Overestimating Glint's prophetic ability

in Lore

kylwilson.9137

(Also in regards to mind magic in general).

I keep seeing comments in multiple threads in regards to Glint’s prophetic ability, along the lines of:

- ‘Why didn’t she foresee the death of ‘x’
- Why didn’t she set up a plan to save her eggs
- Why didn’t she know that she’d be killed by Kralkatorrik (Edge of Destiny)

Just a reminder that we have no idea the mechanics in which Glint’s conception of ‘The Flameseeker Prophecies’ came to be; furthermore we don’t know the magical processes in which prophecy functions within the Guild Wars universe.

Also let it be noted that Glint foresaw that the Mursaat would meet their demise at the hands of the titans (nobody is arguing that there were not Mursaat fatalities upon their emergence from the Door of Komalie, the point here is that what Glint had foreseen was not set in stone so to speak).

This fact remains to be largely untrue. Such as it stands, mind-magic should not the be-all-end-all of the plot holes in Guild Wars 2; a symptom caused in a previous fashion by Asuran technology, and I am hoping that not just the player but A-net recognizes this as well (as I suspect they have).

A suggestion for Chaos Storm

in Mesmer

Posted by: kylwilson.9137

kylwilson.9137

The cooldown, as others have said (including making chaos armor more threatening) could do with a revert. Visually I’d like it to be enhanced a little, if it looked like a blown up version of the Guild Wars 1 counterpart I’d be stoked.

But really other than that, I’d leave it as it is. It also gets in some fairly nice damage ticks on a power-build. Remember Staff shines in the defensive department, evading, getting out of the way of a hammer-combo. A buffed Chaos Storm with an already fantastic Phase Retreat would cause more harm than good.

kylwilson.9137

S/F are the most fun to kill lol. If you are a D/D ele you wouldn’t die, since you would be use to dodging and counter attack killing the SF. In a minute, you’ll either kill her or she’d run away like a startled mouse. I also notice you’re a guardian so I bet you’re not use to dying or a dodging a quick spike chain like that. Nice Juggernaut btw!

The amount of D/D Elementalists I’ve hammered as a S/F Fresh Air Elementalist is countless. A well played S/F Elementalist will cycle through their repertoire of active defenses and out-pressure a D/D Elementalist. The lightning strikes alone from swapping into Air Attunement are enough to do the job. This is utilizing a Berserker amulet.

Mind you it takes a lot of hours practice to get to that point where a player can develop the muscle reflexes to use the appropriate defensive skills, because it’s so unforgiving, but a S/F Elementalist of the same skill level as an opposing D/D Elementalist will come out on top. You’ll miss that blinded fire-grab (which is already hardly difficult to land, they really need to work on making it more user friendly. Also no pun intended there).

Mesmer Poll: Scepter Auto-Attack Torment

in Mesmer

kylwilson.9137

A solid no.

A-net needs to push the Mesmer towards more high-risk-high-reward specs such as interruption and boon removal focused roles as a start. (I would like a trait that rewards us for the removal of boons, just a side thought here).

Promote active gameplay rather than passive.

lol i use a CI condition lockdown build, the thing is people are just to easy to judge when they see conditions, it means PU for them, passive play, and all that kitten.

I never once mentioned Prismatic Understanding, but read what you will I suppose?

But really, are the conditions applied by CI more at benefit by condition damage or condition duration? And if this is the case, are you really running CI without an invaluable trait like Shattered Concentration?

Then ask yourself, are you really able to lock down effectively and often enough without the massive boon removal supplied by said trait?

Because honestly I don’t think the small amount of toughness converted to condition damage by Chaotic Transference is worth gimping yourself and running a condition based CI build with incredibly limited ways to handle stability (hybrid rather, and I used to run one myself for a while, albeit it was celestial).

Regardless this isn’t even on topic. It’s still a solid no from myself.

kylwilson.9137

I just recently used this build but I am in two minds about Mental Torment (been using shatter builds) vs Halting Strike. The damage in halting strike is low compared to mental torment or am i wrong?

Halting strike is easily pulling off 1k+ (critical or not) hits (have hit up to 3k on soft berserker specs). Halting strike damage also acts as more of an incentive (to me at least) to time interrupts and chain them together.

Also more likely to land interrupts in regards to how often you can interrupt vs the recharge of Mind Wrack (seeing as you have to many sources when it comes to interrupting skills).

I’d like to know the real answer to this too though if someone else can input, I’ve never invested much thought into mental torment myself, I’ve always taken halting strike even in shatter builds.

Lockdown is the single build that has allowed me to turn around and take down someone who was pursuing me in tPvP and take them out. Stagging out the positions of clones has really destroyed so many thieves as of late.

I’d been avoiding both Sword and Focus previously because…well we know why. I had used them extensively before the …changes. But oh everything just has so much synergy.

I bet we’re all peeing ourselves over the upcoming fixes to both Sword and Focus. I must say I don’t think I’ll be letting go of staff any time soon either.

They could have just made the scepter more akin to Elementalist’s water attunement scepter attack and made it a single sweep that sends multiple shots out at once, and remove the clone generation on it.

See. Was that hard? More viability for power AND/or condition viability through clone bleeds.

Give us a prestigeous PVE armor too

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: kylwilson.9137

kylwilson.9137

Suck it up and play the other third (extrapolation here I know) of the game.

You’ll only get better at the game as a whole for doing so.

Exclusive PvE’ers don’t deserve extra treatment on top of what exclusives you already have; the PvP community has gotten diddly-squat. Even in the sad state that it is in, PvP is the only actual demonstration of any level of player skill (yes we’re all aware that this is arguable but the general basis still stands); the solution? Play PvP and get better. You won’t regret it whatsoever and that’s a promise.

I assume some people are scared of their self-assumed skill at the game being disproved, but it’s happened to all PvP’ers at some point and it’s only done us good.

That being said I play both PvP and PvE in equal amounts (with my heart closest to PvP of course).

People like you need to stop making this pvp vs pve. It’s not a competition. Why can’t pve have an exclusive armor set? All the reasoning pvpers are giving is that pvp deserves it more. What the heck? Why does that matter?

No one thinks pvp shouldn’t have exclusive armor. No one. But this whole “I’m a pvper we get nothing!” Which isn’t true (WvW gets nothing and I’m not even biased, I only pve and I can see how little they get) should not be the reason pve doesn’t get a grind exclusive armor we can work on. I mean… why is this about pvp versus pve? Why are we fighting? That’s so stupid.

It’s the fact that people with this mindset are straight up ignoring a pretty…what’s the word…interesting part of the game entirely, instead of jumping in and participating. And the fact that you’re so kitten defensive about it all of a sudden only substantiates the fact that it is a PvE vs PvP thing. You’re digging your own hole, and you shouldn’t expect any sympathy with this kind of attitude of “PvP got it too so we also want it for PvE”. You have it already, and more.

Not in the form of armors, no we don’t.

I don’t want a pvp armor. I don’t like pvp, I don’t enjoy pvp, I don’t want an armor that is pvp exclusive because I don’t want people to think I like pvp.

I do want new armors that I can work toward and I’d love them to be a token system through fractals. Or an upgrade sort of deal like Mawdrey, through the most difficult pve content. Whether you think it is actually difficult, idgaf, and it is irrelevant.

It isn’t a pvp versus pve thing. You’re not using logic when you say that me saying that makes it a pvp versus pve thing. It isn’t.

I think there should be special armors that say “I am dedicated to pvp/wvw/high level pve.” Armors. Not weapons. PvP gets theirs first. Fine. But the OP and most who agree with the OP are asking anet to consider doing something similar for pve (and also many say wvw as well!) There is nothing wrong with this. Pvpers are coming in here and attacking everyone without justification. Just stop.

You skimmed over the section where I state that I play both equally, and yes my heart is closer to PvP, but that’s because I know how neglected it’s been for the past two years.

This is how life works: You don’t participate, you don’t get the reward you want. It is black and white. There is no grey in between. It’s never been a matter of PvP vs PvE. It’s a matter of playing the game to it’s fullest. It’s literally Occam’s razor here. That is the explanation.

I wanted the Mawdrey back-piece; I went out and got it the hard way. That’s because I’m willing to play all aspects of the game. People’s fickleness and unwillingness to play other game modes should not warrant Arena Net going out of their way to satisfy those players in question.

Any other mindset is juvenile.

Robin Williams pop culture achievements

Laughing at people assuming that the devs were as culturally devoid as the player-base.

We got a huge pop-culture reference in the Mordry back piece alone for Christ’s sake. I say bring it on. Final Fantasy XIV does this so well. From “Not a Materia Girl” to a quest called “Breaking Bud” not to mention a few Mariah Carey ones floating around.

I think the F.A.T.E: “It’s Not Lupus” in which your goal is the kill a giant crab named ‘Cancer’ really hit it home as well.

Puns definitely go a long way to getting it right.

Let’s face it, the public interest in fame and the celebrity has been around since the early days of Rome. So let’s not all go and pretend like it’s some kind of wicked new development just because a group of players refuse to leave the house.

As for implementing Robin Williams related achievements: I’d have to lean towards no. Lauren Bacall passed away at the same time Robin Williams did, I’d like a bit of equality in terms of such an impacting actress like her getting some referencing too out of respect, but it’s a fine line. Considering how Robin chose to end it all. Very touchy.

[Skill Barr] necro vs buffs

in Necromancer

Posted by: kylwilson.9137

kylwilson.9137

Increase the casting time for Signet of Spite slightly, and redo the animation to be telegraphed much better.
The same should happen for Corrupt Boon.

If this happens, maybe Necromancers will be balanced. Power-specs could probably use some slight buffs though.

If power-specs get a buff, oh I’ll fart rainbows in all honesty. A well played power necro is already incredibly dangerous when coupled with an ample supply life force generation skills. I find myself being able to fill up my life force bar and enter shroud twice in any skirmish, using death shroud to cover the gaps when consume conditions is on cooldown.

But more relevant, Axe will most definitely be tweaked, as it stands we do need to spec a little too heavily into power to get any real kick out of it.

I feel as if the casting speed or projectile speed of life blast could be looked at. The best part about it currently is that when it’s set to auto attack your character will automatically track to face your enemy, which is brilliant.

I don’t feel as if Tainted Shackles will be touched, power or condition, you still get a kick out of either the torment damage or the damage hit at the end of the channel.

I support Signet of Spite being better telegraphed, in return for it being more reliable, often I’ve let it off and it hasn’t even worked, I suspect a random proc of aegis is responsible. If the cast time is increased or made more telegraphed, make it unblockable.

The damage scaling of Terror could be toned down. As it stands, 1k ticks of a disabling condition is absurd in all honesty.

Come to think of it just to finish off, I think Axe could definitely do with a boon removal aspect. I’m not sure how it could be implemented but it would be a nice change.

Eviscerate

Ok, I play Warrior, Mesmer (Shatter), Ranger, Thief, and Engi.

A shatter Mesmer simply can’t beat an eviscerate Warrior in a 1v1 (assuming skill levels are remotely comparable). The Mesmer’s ability to “kite” is completely nullified by the Warriors high mobility, high area control, and various CC options. I understand however that some builds are supposed to counter other builds.

The problem arises when there are VERY few builds to counter this eviscerate build. Any condition build might as well not show up, and very few power builds can match the sustain/dps ratio the warrior brings to the table.

As a Warrior among other things, I can safely say anyone that in favor of the eviscerate build being “just fine” has either A. Never played another profession/build or B. Is simply a bad player afraid to be nothing without his or her crutch.

As being previously a Mesmer main (but the devs shot that horse in the face, legs and kitten ) , the only two of my characters who I can outperform with against an Eviscerate warrior (and this is in an sPvP/tPvP setting) are my Ele (usually Scepter/Focus fresh air) or my zerker Necro. Easier with the latter, but nevertheless I need to absolutely bust my kitten to get this to work, and it only does less than half the time unless I’m in a larger team skirmish.

Put longbow into the equation and I need to pop a Xanax. I shouldn’t need to. I’m not a Real Housewife of Atlanta (yet).
Of course that being said playing higher skill capped classes and builds does indeed lead me to believe that most (eviscerate or otherwise) warrior players are just generally very lazy and need to get out of my screen-space. Which makes the stomps that much more satisfying.

Choose a side: Cantha or Elona?

On just an introductory note, once Mordremoth is out of the way, I feel that Jormag needs to be tackled, with regards to ‘looming threat’ factor.

Alas in regards to the topic; Cantha, most definitely. Krait are constantly being pushed out of the oceans which is threat enough, although thankfully the Karka have settled on Southsun for the time being.

Going to Cantha would definitely lead us to having to tackle the Deep Sea Dragon, and not only this we’d be able to have more light shed on the nature of the Largos. I feel that FFXIV A Realm Reborn really tackled the idea of an oceanic battle very well. Nicely executed.

Kralkatorrik seems to be preoccupied with Palawa Joko around the Crystal Desert area as far as we know, this can wait (as much as I would love to visit Augury Rock and The Amnoon Oasis again).

It’s a tough decision, but yes I’d have to say Cantha. Even though I love both options near equally. Besides, we could use Canthan allies.

Like anyone actually sees Evsicerate coming through the multitude of particle effects anyway? I’ve noticed Eviscerate deaths becoming a scary trend as of late. Sure I love that axe is being used more in a structured setting and it’s about time but this is a little ridiculous.
