fabulous research. Can we see an axe version?….:) I for use know that using axe in a mob together with my mates make a huge difference in assisting them.
there are two things i would like the pet fixed if possible.
1. why do i slow down when my pet gets attacked. it annoys me because when i am trying to get away from a 75+ lvl mob and my pet is limping or under heavy attack, i cannot escape fast enough.
2. Allow us to point at an enemy (rather then clicking it) which highlights it and I can tell the pet to attack.
no…signet are really weak imho. The passive are just not good enough at all, maybe except for Signet of renewal. The cooldown for all signet is ridiculously long. It should be reduced by at least a minimum of 50-75% (15 sec – 20sec)
33% increase in regen is fabulous if you op for healing spring and doing dungeon crawls. Drop it at the feet of your tankers while they are toe-to-toe with the enemy. It helps them alot. also try dropping them so that not only they can benefit, but also you and other supporting characters.
it is also very good if you carry a sword and taking on multiple enemies. the extended regen on the healing spring will give you a longer chance of survival.
try being a trap expert….trap expertise and trap potency. You will be able to cripple him about 8-10 secs in combination with your SB cripple shot and with an Axe winter’s bite. Throw a flame trap and torch at it and watch the conditional damage. Throw in a viper’s nest so that he cannot get much health regen. Then use SB head shot to stun to buy yourself an additional 1 sec for all the cooldowns. Repeat the cycle by crippling him with crippling shot, traps, stun. Throw in poison volley and/or splitblade when you can preferably close for maximum damage since you will be near him when you dispose traps at it’s feet while having it crippled.
Is it me or does the axe throwing have a narrower angle throw as oppose to using a bow? I can strife and circle and kite with a bow at much greater angles sometimes almost 90 degrees. The axe does only about 60-70 degrees.
+50% =1,5 x damage
Cheers… if only it was 150%!
It is. Since the base damage is already 100%, +50% damage results in 150% damage.
maths failed.
“plus/more 50%” means 1.5 times.
“plus/more 100%” means 2 times.
“plus/more 150%” means 2.5 times
key word is “plus” or “more”
if it says “damage IS 50%”..then it means 0.5 times.
i just think pets need to have some brains. I can be standing like 10 ft from a baddie and spamming F1 and the kitten pet just stands around like its looking for a spot to take a kitten or piss. And i dont like it that when i have auto attack, moving my mouse over an enemy and pressing F1 doesnt work. So i am force to attack first taking aggro for my pet!….maybe the pet is smarter then i thought!. At times, it can so stupid..it runs off to attack the further enemy rather then the closer one. CMON!…WTF. Like i said, they should give me the option to slaughter my animal and sell the slab of meat i get from it.
traps..traps..traps…thats all i can say. short bow, axe/torch on the other. When you master this, you can cause so much damage you will be surprise the condition damage numbers bouncing out of the head of the enemy. And you will be cycling through your weapon and weapon skills in perfect timing. Imagine my bleed is 50+ (this number is bouncing of like crazy), fire trap is 120+, poison trap is 75+, flame torch is 200+ and sometimes including bonfire of another 200+. There are so much numbers boucing off the guys head that i am not even sure which is which to be honest…lol. There is never a split second where the enemy isnt getting any damage from me. And sometimes, i just start on the next enemy because i know my condition damage will kill him.
it will be good if you are playing only pvp. but for crowd control and dungeon crawl, its not very good. especially in dungeons where there is a crowd. you like to play pvp dont you?
and what are going to do after when the enemy is still standing?…..to me traits like these are a waste of time.
two pets?….lol…how lazy can you get. you will so kitten overpowered with two pets.
if signet of the hunt give 25% move speed…..wah…thats awesome!
Why can I continually pull arrows out of thin air without end?
Why can I take a facefull of buckshot and keep running and jumping like an Olympic athlete?
Why can my jaguar swim next to me and continually maul enemies without ever once showing any strain from lack of oxygen?
MAGIC!
All these being done while carrying 100kg of inventory. Makes Delta Force look a lil weak.
i think it all depends on style of play. Building high vitality and toughness vs high Damage/Precision or conditional damage to me doesnt seem to make much difference which way you go when you are doing a dungeon crawl.
I build my character to use traps. But at the same time, i unsure that its got a good critical damage of at least minimum of 37% and some power for DD. And weather or not i am flanking , I want to make sure i get at least the 10% increase in damage. Then when i flank, i get a further additional 10% damage. Further increasing this with the rune of thief which also boost conditional damage as a trap user like me.
I sort of build my character to maximise damage. Every shot i make, i want to make sure that i consistently get the best out of my traits. Also my traps are set where the condition last twice as long. I use them a lot in the dungeon when the enemy turns it focus on my mates. Thats when i come from the back or side and dump my traps. The traps will ensure that I am still doing some form of damage when the enemy turns its attention to me and i am dodging about. I find this way, i am maximising my rangers use. I dont want to be dodging to survive while doing zero effort in damage. When i get far enough for the enemy to put its focus back on my mates…my cooldowns for the trap are done. Thats when i again i run up and dump my traps and cycle through all weapon skills. By this time, the sequence of event will cycle through with the enemy putting its attention on me again.
i am pushing for a final setup shortbow/axe-warhorn
10 – I
30 -VI, IX, X or XI
20 – VI, VII
10 – V
any comments..much appreciated.
i used to use piercing arrows, until it got me thinking why should i forgo a trait when i can get it from the axe. I now use shortbow/axe-warhorn combination. The axe can do better, but as a support role its pretty good. And if there is two enemy, it will bounce back to the first aimed enemy. So effectively, the axes total damage can be very high.
I tell you what pisses me off…..they move the same speed as us…..might as well have a pet snail. I roll my eyes when i see them just happy running at the back of an enemy which is coming for me, for a good 2-3 secs trying to chase them down. And when they finally do, its because I am already engaging them toe-to-toe. Thank goodness i dont need to farm food for them cause i would have slaughtered it and sold the meat at LA even for a few coppers.
And sometimes, i dont know if its a bug, they can stand there for a good 2-3 secs doing nothing before attacking and here i am hammering F1 and fending off attacks.
I am too thinking about starting a warrior class character. Videos on youtube shows how to handle a warrior in a PvP or WvW game with a ranger using dodge and stuff like that. What if the warrior equips itself with a short bow…..bye-bye ranger.
Should rename rangers as woodcutters.

Totally agree with you. We are nimble and we need to move faster by default and be able to dodge more. I think signets are a joke as well as the spirits and so are some of our traits.
Just like you, when i dungeon crawl with my mates…..i sometimes do not know wtf I am doing here because all i do shoot miserable toothpicks waiting for my cooldowns, which most of them are quite useless. It gets even worse when one monster comes after you in the dungeon and that monster is like a champion equivalent. There is no way of escaping long enough so that your mates can come and back you up. At most i can keep away for about 10+ secs longest before i have to go toe to toe with it. Worse part..when i dungeon crawl…i put two bows…short and long in primary and secondary so that I can provide all the support necessary. When it comes to toe-to-toe fighting….i am screwed. If i put a sword and horn as secondary….i am stuck with some kitten weapon skills from bow primary…..back to standing there shooting toothpicks with some occasionally crippling and concussion shots.
