We should be happy about this, pot stirring on anets part. It may result in the exact same thing, that they can put minor changes into make drastic impacts (scarily both good and bad) but I’ll remain optimistic because they are ‘thinking’ about how to do things. And that’s the start people have wanted for many years.
Especially considering we can vote out things that don’t work.
Oh you mean like DBL?
You don’t think we had the chance to vote that out?
Given the skirmishes are about to be implemented do we know what the schedule is? Are they every even hour or odd hour? Are they on the half hour?
If you read the article…it says 2 hours.
I know that but is it 2 hours on every odd hour or even hour?

JQ and DB are now open and TC closed but guess which server has a link for the next 6 weeks. Good job anet, you absolutely have to review how you link servers.
I bet DBs ocx and sea don’t want to go back down, its a wasteland in T2 and below for those timezones.
No one “hibernates” on purpose. It’s normally due to boredom. Dragonbrand isn’t Hibernating. Their guilds aren’t sleeping at all. They are leaving. Leaving to other servers.
All T1 servers hibernated to some degree around HOT to open up, and servers have done it since.

Could always change the points to 2, 1, 1 from 3, 2, 1.
In a way that could also force the 2nd and 3rd place teams to focus on the 1st place team, rather than the usual 1st and 2nd focusing on 3rd so they don’t give away “free points” to either.
Prima facie this seems to be a great idea. It should lessen the 2nd place server from trying to protect their position.
And two hours of work equates to 3 points. Or 2, or 1.
Not 190, 160, 75, 40 every five minutes. So the first place has a total potential of 252 points across the week.
It’s the same points with smaller numbers.
this is what I think – making the match SEEM closer, but not really…
It is closer because winning a skirmish gains you less points advantage than currently dominating a timezone does.
Nope they let their pro league players exploit to win games in ranked.
Looking at current results YB is definitely a T2 server (although how much of that is k training in dead timezones like YB used to do), probably replacing FA.
Until WvW ONLY forces are counted instead of total server population; WvW will never truly be fixed.
What? WvW population is now based on the no. of players with a certain amount of WvW activity (no AFKing at the mystic toilet) over a certain period of time (thought to be a month). It changed last year.

It got 75pct because there was never the option to not have dbl. .
This again! There was the previous poll on whether to continue using the DBL or not which won with 65% of the vote.
Honestly I’ll never play a paid subscription type of game, it just makes the game feel like work to me.
Thats pretty funny given f2p games are the most grindy games cause they have to be to get you to buy stuff from them and are therefore the games most like ‘work’.
If subs aren’t for you, Crowfall will be B2P.
When is that due for release, 2020 ?
I think Crowfall will be out before CU because they’re not making their own engine.
I would just try an a search on sharpening stones in the top most level of the buy screen, can’t imagine they’re not on the TP any more.
I’ve seen some RISE in Maguuma but I don’t know if those are holdovers or where their main force is. I’m on JQ right now but I’m not married to it. I’ve been on their TS once since I came back a week or so ago, and I think they have a Discord server but I have no idea how active it is. I work 6am-230pm EST so I would actually probably be most active during EU and early USTZ prime unless something interesting is going on with internet spaceships.
JQ is a good community and we need EU commanders. We use Discord not TS now due to ongoing DDOSing, plenty of people are on it when I play.
I don’t know about you but I’ve been playing WvW for over 3 years now and MOST of the people I started playing with then are still playing. I would love to see this evidence of yours. I know of two people who have completely quit this game due to the HoT expansion and the changes to WvW at the time. Other than that everyone I knew back then is still playing.. and it’s not a small number of people.
The majority of my guild has completely turned over in the last 3 years and most of the players I’ve run with are no longer in the game, thats been on SOR and JQ.
As far as I remembered, there is no clarification. They “re-run” the poll purely because people mention of the ambiguous wordings for the previous. However, at the same time, I didn’t see majority of the comments asking for poll on deleting the BL, it is anet interpreting it that way and polling it that way. There is a big difference between deleting and KIVing it. The polling itself is already guilt tripping people.
Poll is gone from the website but here’s a dev post which explains what they were going to do:
No. Because why should I? GW2 has shown there is a better way.
Not really, reading between the lines GW2 has been unable to sustain itself and has had to resort to xpacs at a premium price point and putting more and more items on the gem store and even then it is failing.
We would pretty much already have had this grand realm vs realm game with ESO but nope, subscription and people didnt give it enough time to settle. Sure its b2p now but that release totally kittened it over.
Problem with ESO wasn’t the sub, the combat was initially very clunky which meant guilds didn’t really support it, then its pvp was hamstrung by severe balance issues. Its getting it right now though.

People seriously need to start looking at WvW as a strategy based format and not a race against time. Sure, there will be times when you’ll need to beat the clock but for the most part, it should be about trying to figure out how you can outsmart your opponents instead of how many rams you can throw. Why do players consider it “boring” when they can’t get inside a structure right away? Is it not fun having to use your head? I suppose that’s more of an opinion so it’s not really valid but my point is that reducing the effectiveness of defences is only going to make WvW even less strategic.
This is all well and good when there are multiple pins running but with the population issues the strategic choice becomes do I spend an hour trying to take this objective which is defended and lose other objectives elsewhere or do I try another objective which might not be so well defended.
So…. do you fight for something or PvD an empty structure?
Siege wars aren’t fights. I’m talking about a situation where the defenders just turtle on siege and don’t come out and engage the attacking force directly.
Then you break in to force the fight…. unless you prefer fighting empty towers?
Already answered, you’re pretty much trying to create a straw man.
thanks for answering what you are trying to do, but have you considered even less matches (tiers) with more combined servers in an attempt to even things up? T4 NA was messed up for 8 weeks. YB got the shaft for 8 weeks. Early returns seem to indicate TC played well by dropping to 4th just before re-linking ensuring a link while JQ is odd man out.
Just a comment on this, I’m absolutely sick of servers/guild alliances exploiting the system and getting rewarded for it. Its happened with BG and TC and maybe DB are now trying to do it, either link all servers in T1 and T1 NA or don’t link any. Servers moving to full or very high may be automatic (although this is up for debate) but certainly links are being done on a case by case basis so it is within anets power to ensure servers aren’t absolutely screwed for 2 months.
If Anet came up with a system to monetize WvW (gems or sub) while giving it more attention. Would you pay for it? Discuss.
Not with anet as the developer. And BTW I am supporting Camelot Unchained which will be a sub game, although I bought a life time sub for it.
Actually, there is no such thing as 75% voted for DBL. The vote actually is to keep DBL or throw it away permanently and it is not even 75%.. Also, no one ever voted DBL to be part of the rotation, we were never given that choice. DBL is literally forced into the rotation without our consent. Our only option is to keep or not keep DBL but anet devs go beyond that and interpreted it as we want to keep it means we want it to be in rotation.
What? You’ve clearly misinterpreted the poll which is not anets fault. It was quite clear that voting to keep the DBL supported meant that it was coming back into WvW in some form, either as the home BL for 3 months or as part of a mixed BL make up. This was crystal clear. They had the poll previous to that one about how to bring back the DBL which was worded badly, so they decided to do the poll about supporting the DBL. This was done with the clear understanding that if it passed that they would rerun the poll about how to bring it back into rotation.
A lot of people voted to keep DBL and have it in rotation because they know Anet wasn’t going to develop a new map for WvW. They’d need to wait another 2 years for a new WvW map. Alpine is great but the thought of going another 2 years without any new maps is just dreadful.
It’s really a lesser of two evils thing. Yes many dislike DBL, it’s too large, the multi-level design makes it tedious to find fights, the pointless center area is dumb, the added PvE-centric elements & gimmicks are bothersome, it’s a difficult map for defenders, towers have no strategic values, etc etc etc.. But people are willing to swallow all that just for the sake of having something different to play for the next two years.
And by the way, this is exactly what causes burnouts and how people lose interest in the first place. People are forced to pick lesser of two evils, rather than joyfully pick something they really enjoy and like.
Anet has a lot of catch up to do in terms of fixing WvW issues and implementing things that people want/like. That’s the reality of the situation.
This is all spot on, and the activity data shows that people were losing interest anyway. DBL at least provides more variety. And even if 65% voted for it not 75% its still a significant majority.

I don’t know much about the EU servers but this link actually looks worse than the 4 linked US server. How the hell do they make these decisions? Again I say the lack of transparency really hurts them.
I voted for it and have played on it regularly since lastw eek.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
any mention about nightcapping is like suggesting those who live outside NA timezone does not deserve to play WvW….
But the suggestions don’t marginalise contributions by those in affected timezones like other ideas do, especially anets own ideas.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
This was a majority vote to have and keep BOTH maps still in play. I prefer DBL and don’t like Alpine as much, I still played on it thou.
So who voted for it? A majority of the GW2 WvW population.
And not just a simple majority but over 75%.

Build templates are badly needed. I frequently run with the zerg then zone off to scout. I need to be able to change builds on the fly.
Can we say that whoever designed this lost sight of what is fun in a game somewhere along the road? Because this doesn’t feel like fun. At all. And worse, upgrading a guild to provide bonuses in WvW is – mostly – completely disconnected from playing WvW.
This is spot on, not to mention the complete loss of progress already made prior to HOT. And I want to echo the comments of the poster above thanks for these posts.
WvW is a Player vs Player game mode, siege primary role should be to get rid of the enemy’s siege and hinder the enemy players, not kill them. It feels wrong to me that a tiny force is able to scatter a huge blob only because they have a lot of superior arrowcarts. They should not to kill the blob, but they should be able to slow down the attackers for long enough for reinforces to arrive.
I have always agreed with this principle and its one of the failings of anet that they have made siege so prevalent in terms of damage. One of the biggest mistakes anet made was when they increased AC damage. I do think you shouldn’t have referred to having to bring a blob to defend though, its an easy hook for people to dismiss your ideas as they are doing
Only made it about a quarter of the way through the book you are writing before I got tired of seeing the same common theme in all your ideas which is basically “bring a blob”.
Your ideas seem better suited for eotm than they do for WvW.
Thats funny given his/her ideas revolve around player combat rather than siege conbat.
“If you want to defend an objective against a blob, Bring Your Own Blob!”
That would be interesting but, blob gameplay is awfull in this game, group who has more aoe spam capabilities wins.
I would argue that siege gameplay is far worse that blob vs blob.
“WvW is a Player vs Player game mode, siege primary role should be to get rid of the enemy’s siege and hinder the enemy players, not kill them”
No, wvw is a RvRvR war that includes weapons of war…
S/he is not talking about getting rid of siege but putting it in its rightful place. ESO pretty much adheres to these principles and is better due to it.
Interesting thoughts, to me you make sense, I would like to hear if anyone has an argument against it.
They refuse to explain and be transparent which in turn leads to players getting angry at anet. They don’t understand that lack of transparency makes it worse, although they aren’t the only company to make that mistake. Bioware are also particularly bad at it as well.
Lets say this together again.

Factions will reduce identity. Loss of identity means less attachment to game. Less attachment to game means players fairweather to other games,
Without community, identity, population balance becomes moot. Because there will be no players.
I don’t see any difference identifying with a faction rather than a server. The issue is that doing it now would disrupt server identification, but then anet are doing a pretty good job of ruining that anyway with the linkage system. Also communities would develop around factions.
As for blaming players for population issues I’ve said it before but expecting players to act altruistically is foolish, game design has to account for human nature and that is to exploit and find the path of easiest resistance.

A lot of people often misunderstand one thing, SEA population doesn’t mean it include the early NA/EU players, it literally means people from SEA. You might think DB and BG are “bigger” but in reality, it just include their NA/EU players who play much more often. That is literally how most servers function, prime time help to maintain their off hours via players who willing to wake up early to play.
Given you’re from HOD and have not fought any of the servers involved for a long time you know nothing about it. DB have a long established resident sea population and BG being BG have always attracted guilds.
Right, if you do not know that [TIME] was once in DB, it already prove that you know nothing much.
Well you should know DB has always had a large resident sea population then.

Jade Quarry is full tho, and when it is SEA prime, the whole map turn JQ favor… Maybe if JQ had more NA and less asians, it would have a better time in T1.
An month or so ago, in another thread, one jqer was complaining about the exact same thing and I told him that if you cut down your SEA, you can increase your NA
JQs SEA is now smaller than BGs and DBs, it may be potentially larger but I doubt many who don’t play any more are coming back. So if JQ destacks it would leave T1 with only 2 servers able to compete at all. Never mind the fact that forcing players/guilds to leave is clearly a ridiculous proposition.
What anet see in their data is that you have that numbers but your numbers is concentrated on one area, it is not their problem and they cannot afford to increase your cap without the risk that your server again stacking more in that area. Wake up.
Where was I asking for a cap increase? I’m saying JQ should be linked, Anet are clearly making linking decisions on a more reasoned basis than simply blindly looking at metrics.
I really do hope ANet get some more drive to push WvW thru these hard times and bring it into a golden age for RvR like pvp mode in Gaming. Instead of just looking for the quick and easy buck. It just seems to me they are too afraid to commit, to the players of the WvW game mode in GW2.
They won’t because they literally don;t know what to do.
Only if you feel the look of the wings are worth it. I wouldn’t do because of prestige because there is none behind the wings. Another main reason why I was able to stop just into Season 3 was because IMO, the wings looks alittle too plain to me, compared to the amount of headache and rotting me from the inside out match after match after match for what even reasons MM deemed worthy.
Yep I was exactly the same and quit at the same time.
Can somebody from ArenaNet please explains what the logic is behind the server pairings? And put that explanation in every new world linking post? So we don’t have to ask the same questions every time!
Anet want communication but only on their terms they refuse to be transparent about decisions like these.
Your guys don’t even know anything about jq. Jq just got half of DragonBrand na due to drama. I knew that server was going to fall apart with all the drama Queens. Join tc today pm me if interested.
Half! Stop lying, we got 1 guild.
Here are the worlds for NA:
• Dragonbrand
• Blackgate
• Jade Quarry
Jade Quarry doesn’t have near the population of DB or BG how the hell do you expect us to be able to compete?
More decisions which just turn players off the game mode. You need to be more transparent with players about how you made these decisions.
(edited by morrolan.9608)
Why shouldn’t it work? You can nerf mobs into oblivion if they’re not suited for PvE players – no one would really complain about that. If all classes were balanced then there shouldn’t be a preference who to take to a dungeon as all were more or less equally strong.
No it wouldn’t because PvE enemies don’t behave like human enemies and abilities that work in small scale combat can be completely ineffectual in large scale combat.
How STUPID can you be. The overwhelming majority of players REJECTED the
desert. Period!!! I know so many members who stopped play WvW because of
the desert scenario. Now, they will just simply stop playing in the red
zone — and I am one of them. NUTS!!!
1. How many times does it need to be said the players voted for it, more than 75% who voted.
2. Like I said earlier I ran with a squad of at least 40 yesterday on the DBL for the majority of our guild raid and no-one complained.
3. If you don’t like it don’t go there we have choices now.
To those predicting that no-one will run on the DBL, I’ve been running with a squad of around 40 on the DBL for a while now.
OTOH the changes to the wall around the rampart lord are utterly ridiculous and give the defending team an unfair advantage.
