No over 50%, but this is for a beta test only. A 75% will be required if they put it to a vote to become permanent.
3. How will repair hammers work? The current design is that you will be able to purchase the repair hammer from the tricks and traps vendor. When you consume the hammer it will replace your weapon skills with 1 skill that allows you to repair any siege. If you drop the hammer or die you will need to consume another repair hammer to use the repair hammer skill.
Will supply be required? If so will it repair the siege proportional to the supply used?
6. Will repair hammers work on golems? Repair Hammers do work on golems, but only when no one is inside of them.
Does this also apply to other siege? ie. they can’t be manned whilst being repaired?
T1 is the most balanced this week but only because BG is going back into hibergate mode.
Yeah they need to fix something fast. Unless their intention is to kill off all small servers and let players pay to redistribute themselves on the main servers.
working as intended?
Starting to look that way. It’s dirty, but I wouldn’t expect any less from anet. Gems over players.
The phrase “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity” springs to mind. Anet could have done a lot more to force players to redistribute to the most populated servers if they really wanted that.
Please don’t vote yes on this if you have stipulations or some other ideas on how it should be implemented. Implementation is out of your control.
So you would rather not try it at all to even see the results or consequence? We always can vote it out on the final poll if they won’t change implementation.
I would rather they spent resources on something actually worthwhile rather than something that will definitely make the mode worse.
As someone on reddit said this will make long sieges even longer and potentially impossible assuming even just half a dozen are defending.
Great make siege more prevalent………. I voted no.
However I must say this is a fairly major change to the way the mode is played it arguably should be a super majority.
So that’s part of the reason we get so much lag on EB, all the extra calculations of stacks of conditions and boons, but I think this needs toning down not to next to no usefulness.
Even Chilling Fog, doesn’t last very long at all anymore, it all depends if something like T2/3 SM is bunkered in with siege though, can be useful if defending a keep outnumbered though.
Chilling fog gets used very badly by defenders now.
There are no NPC pirates in this map that interact with players. The secondary mechanic is a periodic 4th capture point (“The Bell”) that awards increasing team score.
There was probably some confusion because once the bell is captured, there is an awesome sequence of cannons blowing up the pirate ship. This is only for flavor, though.
So the article is completely wrong then. Great journalism.
I was out of WvW for a while and decided to come back to see what was going on, especially since they vowed (again) to increase communication with all of the wvw changes. There are clear problems with the linking, but what makes me angry is ANET’s complete silence. They once again demonstrated their inability to communicate with their player base.
It seems like they go through phases where for a few weeks they decide to communicate. Then we get radio silence for extended periods of time, followed by a detailed apology with a promise to increase communication, then back to silence, etc.
Anet are trying to communicate more with WvW (funnily enough their communication on spvp is getting less) but its still very controlled. They still refuse to comment on ad hoc issues that arise eg. the current T4 issue.
So this is what is has come to?? I have an account on FA … and was on there tonight in EB. I got killed by about 15 YB near OW.. no big deal… 15 to 1.. easy kill.. and I watched them as they took the tower… oh wait! It wasn’t just YB.. it was JQ as well… At they ran over my dead body I counted no less than 40 JQ running WITH the YB group amongst them. They weren’t fighting… they were working together.. By the time I picked my jaw up off of the desk I realized I didn’t even hit record. Seriously? JQ needs that? YB needs that? I have to say I’ve heard of these things but it’s the first time I’ve seen two servers really running TOGETHER like this.
Seriously I agree with many of these posts.. it’s time to chill from wvw…
I dunno what you saw but it is definitely not server wide on JQ.
Anyone who wants to pay just the 250-300 gold for just the maguuma lilies should be able to use trailblazer’s.
You’re godkitten right about that, speaking as someone who just did that.
Many Veterans that want an identity can move up in tier to a Host World Server…leaving the lower tiers without Veterans that might have otherwise helped to train fresh players from these lower tiered worlds. All players will learn & want to migrate to a Host World Server in the end. Further to encourage Severe Server Stacking & Blow Out Matches…leading to Stale Game Play. Vicious cycle as ANet refeshes World Links, which then again encourages Server jumping…which then provides ANet a source of revenue…but how long can this continue to remain viable?
Not for much longer, its continuing to decline, even in the last month or 2 its noticeable. The mode is ‘on the nose’ as we say in Oz.
If you’re outnumbered by a significant amount, you shouldn’t be allowed to keep the structure
Why? Smart play should be rewarded over mindless blobbing… If a zerg that big don’t know how to counter siege, they shouldn’t be rewarded with the structure.
The problem is: the blob don’t need to play smart counter siege since they can just AoE everything on top of wall making impossible for the defense to do anything unless you have enough people to fight head on. And this only promote more mindless blobbing. Why bother defending while outnumbered if the zerg can just roll over anything and everything? With the reward tracks now in place WvW is getting closer to EotM with each passing day.
What’s “smart” about placing siege inside a tower?
And pressing 1.
Case in point the grassroots GVG scene that was really popular 18 months ago, that Anet went out of their way to kill off/ignore. This was at a time when participation in sPVP (Player vs Point) was basically non-existent. I used to work in a major game company, I can tell you with certainty that other game companies would kill to have a grassroots competitive scene spring up in one of their games and they would have fostered the kitten out of it.
This is so true IIRC the twitch viewing numbers of major GvGs at the time significantly outstripped viewing numbers for official spvp competitions. Anet just had (and continue to have) their head in the sand.
That’s a very valid point, imo. So, do you think it has a chance of being rescued, given the age of the game, and how WvW was originally implemented?
Nope because they are clearly unwilling to stray too far from the current implementation yet they need to make fundamental changes.
So, am just throwing this out there for some discussion.
Was gw2’s wvw mode ever meant to be hardcore, serious, end-game, or whatever you want to call it? I have played gw2 from a month after release, and have played wvw, on a casual basis, for 3+ years. I come from a long term playing time of Dark Age of Camelot, where WvW/RvR was meant as the “end-game”. It was meant for those that really committed some time to the game, and really committed some effort to getting really good in WvW. There were specific goals, rewards, and worthwhile bonuses given to players of that mode, and to their races for winning, and/or leading in WvW objectives, etc. While most hardcores loved it, the mode also lended itself to more casual players, with both worldwide RvR, as well as smaller scale map WvW, in the form of battlegrounds. No matter your expertise, or lack of it, you could still make a positive contribution to the goals of that game mode. (But yea, I won’t go into ToA, as that nearly destroyed the game…..DaoC was far from perfect)
GW2’s wvw, on the other hand, and in my opinion, was never created with that in mind. I believe it was created as a side mode to the PvE and small team PvP emphasis of the game. The fact that the devs rarely communicated with the WvW playerbase for the first 2-3 years seems to prove that, imo. The playerbase is what actually formed WvW in this game, without much intervention from Anet, imo. When there were tournaments, the rewards were so lackluster, that, at least in my case, I was left wondering why even have the tournaments? You ended up with pretty much the same sort of thing that there is now….some sort of inconsequential point total that people could, I suppose, find something to brag about. Even the glicko stuff that formed the Tiers was really nothing more than population advantages of some servers over others.
My opinion is that the original design intention (prior to implementation) was that WvW would be endgame for those who wanted open world style and large scale pvp. However the mode was unfinished when the game launched and those in charge of overall game development at the time of the launch (who are now gone from anet) had no interest in WvW therefore the mode was left to languish and stagnate. This was clearly reflected in their statements about the mode which betrayed ignorance about it and the fact that there were barely no resources assigned for ongoing development apart from what were essentially bug fixes.
FA has been meh since I’ve been here.
Solid roamers, the kind of people I can depend on to back me up if I’m outnumbered and an okay community.
Defense is terrible, although I’m thinking it might be because people know that it’s not really worth holding on to anything with how badly JQ outnumbers us most of the day. Still, no one seems to be able to read a map. Things get taken with 0 effort involved on JQ/YB’s behalf because no one even shows up to stop them or slow them down.
In ocx time yesterday you were defending like YB.
To me, the game in general has too few boon strips of all sorts, and they are ineffective vs boon generation due to boon spam.
In addition, there are too many abilities now which are not considered boons, thus can not be stripped, but should be.
This is correct IMO. Keep the gameplay more active by making boonstrip more prevalent rather than nerfing boons.
We seriously have to wait that long? Man I came to wvw because spvp was a mess. But here I find that wvw is in even worse shape.
Both modes are in very bad shape. Heck the whole game basically is.
How are JQ and FA linked, and YB isn’t.
How is DB linked again in T1?
Have we gotten an explanation on how exactly this is supposed to work yet?
YB has lost players and it isn’t reflected in the linking yet, plus DK doesn’t seem to be pulling long hours like he used to. Its a bad position but other servers have been in similar bad positions.
Right, but my point is, I was under the impression (I might be wrong) that T1 servers would have no link.
And I was also wondering why T4 has so much linking.
Linking has got nothing to do with the tier its got to do with the calculated population and it lasts for 2 months they can’t turn links on and off from week to week.
I’m pretty surprised not one single match this week changed considering how varied matches were in the first time there was server linking and partial glicko reset.
Yes I do wonder if the increased volatility they refer to is only used for the first week of the new links.
IMO there is something fundamentally wrong with their glicko system in the way it continually settles for the same match ups.
Are we seeing the start of a new dawn?
This ending week, T1 has been neck to neck among all 3 factions right till the end!
and TC won it by the tiniest of margins.
Only cause BG are going back into hibergate mode.
Also by balance you mean no-one moving into T1 which leads to it getting stale, how is that a good thing?
You guys got this all wrong. Anet can’t predict when a server population is going to tank (YB) or transfer off or fairweather. You’re trying to ascribe to Anet something that is completely within the realm of players, guilds, and how well server communities organize themselves. Anet is making links only every two months based off that server’s data every two months.
As a number of us have said before the issue is the WvW model isn’t flexible enough to account for situations like this and human behaviour. They had some ideas for a more flexible model and they chose to stay with an inflexible server model with effective merges. So yes it is at least in part Anet’s fault.
How are JQ and FA linked, and YB isn’t.

They should create the same number of shrines in the DBL.
Okay? We could earn the same through a PvP reward track. Not seeing your point.
I’m not asking them to be given. I’m asking for the opportunity to earn them.
My point is in PvE and WvW we are required to earn them to unlock and use them. In spvp we aren’t hence why should they be able to be earned in spvp.
We can earn hero points in both PvE and WvW. Why can we not earn them in PvP?
Because they are automatically unlocked in pvp. For both WvW and PvE they can only be unlocked via hero points.
Except playing PvP isn’t earning HP at all. PvE players still have to go out of their way to earn their HP, they aren’t just handed out. You should have to do so as well
Proof of Heroics.
Proofs of heroics aren’t handing out hero points, they are earned just as in PvE.

15 vs 40 was possible once because it was 15 people with secret raid builds and a hardcore commander vs 40 people on random PvE builds following a commander that had no idea what he was doing. The game has matured beyond that now.
No it hasn’t, this still happens, fairly regularly too.
Yes the good ol days, when you could die in an instant to an invisible zerg and have no clue what happened until the character models of the stragglers all appeared running over your corpse 3 seconds later. =P
Yes a few rose coloured glasses in this thread.
sorry all, i really dont have time to read through 5 pages of this thread so please excuse me if this question has been answered:
will the server match ups change again? is RoS destined to be passed from server to server like an unwanted step child?
Ive been away for a couple of months, i had joined a wvw guild on gandara (which had previously left ros) but came back last night to find im now on desolation fighting against my gandara guild and then to discover ive been removed from that guild as im on a different server :/
Yes the server linkages will be changed every 2 months.
I’m liking FA for the past few months. Outnumbered for the most part versus JQ and YB but doing decent and good community so far.
Put it this way, zerg busting claiming guilds can test their skills here
You must not play in SEA timezone.
FA runs the biggest map blob during SEA with ND, CA and GK all running as one giant 3 headed monster.
I barely ever see YB, they keep their head down. I believe they are not playing this week to ensure they don’t move back to tier 1. I have no idea how big YB is until they come out and play in the next few weeks.
I have never seen FA being outnumbered by YB.
JQ always outnumbers FA when the 3 headed monster isn’t running.
In my opinion, if you want to bust blobs in SEA then JQ is your place – you get double or triple teamed by decent guilds that want fights and we have quite decent pugs.
YB may also be a good option but until I see what their SEA population is I wouldn’t commit to that. You don’t want to be a 15 man guild taking on ND+CA+GK without any pugs, you’ll just get steamrolled.
Is this guy serious? Comparing FA’s SEA, which is the single timezone FA has always traditionally been most short on, with JQ’s SEA, which is what JQ is known for… nevermind the fact that more than half the guilds he named are actually on SoR. SMH.
The golden truth Chaba comes through again, thanks for setting him straight
FA, outnumbered MAGIC FIND ALL DAY EVERY DAY BOOST BABY
So SOR isn’t paired with FA? There really isn’t a difference as to whether those guilds are on SOR or FA.
Many guilds had their players cut off because of t1 servers getting unlinked and with BG going full.
It was hardly a surprise BG going full if the whole guild didn’t transfer then its their fault.
This is now a general QOL issue for crafters and not a WvW issue, so I suggest it might be better off raised in the general forum.
The moderators do not allow it to be discussed outside of this wvw forum.
It should be phrased differently perhaps then.
This is now a general QOL issue for crafters and not a WvW issue, so I suggest it might be better off raised in the general forum.
It IS, I don’t consider that Zerg busting to kill a bunch of pugs running around uncoordinated on PvE builds. That is really just goofing off. Fighting BG’s organized omniblobs is zerg busting, and they actually know what they are doing and put up a really good challenge. I haven’t seen anything like that outside of BG though due to the quality of the players/ classes/ builds they are running on other servers.
I doubt very much if even a very good guild of 15 could defeat another good organised guild group of 30 currently. ND might be able to but not many others.
Hey all, did some reading, watched some videos, and people tend to think that the ol, “15 vs 30+” zerg busting is dead, due to massive stability applications, ect. Do you all think it’s dead? If not, do you all have any, “Go-to” classes/builds that would be recommended for that sort of play?
Its not dead, my guild isn’t a great fighting guild but when we organise ourselves properly we’re busting organised zergs twice as big as us.
1. Its too unbalanced to be truly competitive
2. Absolutely
3. No, fundamental changes would be required and anet are unwilling to go to far in making changes as shown by their rejection of a possible change to the mode in resetting servers every 3 months.
What am i missing here? Why was my home server set up to be completely rickrolled this week? Changing the scoring systum does literally nothing when your server spends 168 hours with the outnumbered buff.
I think it must have been an error in the linkage process but anet have refused to say anything about it.
We have already had guilds and individuals posting here in the forums they will be leaving the game again when the DBL returns, so we have an idea of the impact it will have due to those who left last time, and those who stated they will be leaving again. We are just hoping it will not be on the scale it was before.
Which guilds?I haven’t seen any say they will leave because of having mixed BLs. And anyway what would they do for the 3 months the DBL was in rotation with the other option.
I can not even imagine how this pull came about or how it can be thought of as a good pull. But ok lets go through this again and watch the server with DBL rage for not having players or waypoints or any sort of tactic. It will be fun time to watch the rage flow in this forum again. sarcasm if anyone missed that
And if rotation was chosen watch how no-one would be on any of the BLs for 3 months while it was in rotation. Its really not hard to understand.
BG is getting bored again and TC is doing huge overtime apparently.
Why does this have to be brought up again and again by very few but loud people. No we don’t want the badges back.
becoz ppl are not interested in balancing, thats why they vote for unbalance option
ppl who are interested in balancing are always the minority, in every single game.
Asynchronous doesn’t mean unbalanced thats not to say that the DBL isn’t unbalanced, it is, but 3 different BLs won;t necessarily be unbalanced.
You need to go back and reselect your original vote. The system is set up to allow a user to change their mind.
And yet, how many know this???? Players interested in the results may go back many times to view it. How many use “just show me the results”? figuring their first vote is what’s counted?
Yes I agree the poll website is just stupid and should be fixed
My opinion first glance is that as most of the people dont like DBL and people who like DBL dont mind alpine bl (because i havent seen them complain here that they only spend time in EB) is that having 3 alpine would be superior option.
Once again that vote has occurred and failed.
It’s actually JQ and SBI that do blobbing a lot. most of our time in SoS/NSP, we usually have only about 20 ppl in squad. And sometimes this squad gotta hold things from both JQ and SBI.
Oh please in OCX time you have the biggest blob across all 3 servers.
SoS’s ocx blob is not even match the size of JQ’s
Of course it is, I’m in sox. We may have more than 1 group but each separate group is usually smaller than SoSs. Of course if you’re talking late ocx we get sea logging in so our numbers grow.
That sounds even worse. I would still vote for all servers having the same map every week and simply changing the map type every 1-3 weeks. We’d get both variety and balance. Simultaneous 3 way sounds disturbingly unbalance-able.
They have stated this takes up too many resources.
I voted No.
I way prefer that everyone gets the same map.
JQ’s gonna be pretty bad to be on for the 3 months that the desert BL is in rotation if it gets up.
Surely people can see the problem that if the map itself could kill the game mode that it is far from being ready for the live game at all. They really need to work on the map then let people vote on when it is actually ready and see what happens from there if they wanted this issue to finally be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.
Yes that may be correct however its not an option that is being put up and as has been repeatedly said we are compromising, life involves compromise. To vote for anything other than simultaneous is to vote for the death of the mode.
