WvW is going way better than it was 3 months ago. It’s far from dying, it’s even improving but there are still much improvements to be made.
WvW has less players compered to 3 months ago, it is not doing fine.
I’m curious as to how you measured how many players participated in WvW across all maps, 24/7 now and then. And when you say “fewer players than 3 months ago”, by how much? Is this less than we’d expect due to normal attrition? How does it compare to PvE and PvP participation?
I’m not saying the game is in great shape in any of its modes. I’m saying we don’t have the data to say one way or another showing that WvW is on its last legs.
My conclusions are based on anecdotal observation of my servers (main and alt account) and our opponents, plus the activity data provided by torqued soul. What about the person I replied to what is the basis for saying it is improving?
As for dying I didn’t mention dying.

Honestly I think Wildcreek (And Klovan) should have BOTH walls breakable. The green team is normally the dominant team of the matchup and don’t need to have the easiest towers to defend. Unfortunely that could lead to make it impossible to reach lords unless Anet change where the stairway are located.

When Anet got a new director, they did a right step and listened to community for the first time. They brought back Alphine BLs, made reward tracks, tried to fix population issues with server linking, announced ideas how to balance scoring/nigthcapping, even decreased lag a bit. That was hype and many people returned to WvW and had fun.
Now Anet went the wrong way again. Community told that population imbalance and scoring (especcialy nigthcapping) are core issues that should be addressed as soon as possible, but Anet went to “do you want cosmetic updates? do you want repair hammer? open field cannons and mortars? (w00t?)”. I told several times on this forum that core issue of WvW is that system benefits avoiding fair fights and doing karma train/stealth/nightcap/blobbing/ganging. If they only listen and change scoring system to benefit players for winning fair fights, taking defended objectives, and punish players for avoiding fights, stealth capping and outnumbering.
Well, the core issues stay and Anet is running out of time. Bless Online, Camelot Unchained and Crowfall are very close, and if Anet did not manage to fix core WvW issues until their releases, people will just leave WvW to new RvR games.
They are working on the scoring issues and linking issues are being addressed with linkages (albeit ineffectively). They only brought in stuff like repair hammers as an easy change whilst still working on scoring. I don’t like that they even trialled repair hammer but it clearly hasn’t delayed the scoring changes 1 iota.

The walls not appearing correctly allowing some to walk through is a known bug that will be fixed in the next release.
Also, the Wildcreek and Rogue’s Quarry changes were deliberate.
Why? Specifically Wildcreek? What was the issue? It seems a very strange change that no-one asked for and no-one had an issue with.
So asymmetric map setup for the servers. Thanks, another variable to throw the balance between servers out of whack. Really classy.

and Scrappers only hard counter is a reaper that’s it 1 out of 9 classes….. And the only reason is the amount of unblockable and the corruption attacks.
Reading your posts one would get the idea that engi’s are dominating the meta both in normal ranked play as well as the pros, yet its not happening. You seem to be making statements about the theoretical damage output and sustain of engis from looking at a spreadsheet rather than evaluating whats happening in practice.
DCs were really bad last night ocx time. I and others in my guild dc’ed multiple times.
Only thing I dislike about scrapper is their rez power. We got rid of mesmer’s safe rezzes but scrapper somehow retained theirs.
Because its the defining trait of scrapper, its never been the defining trait of another class like it is for scrapper.
The class is virtually unkillable in 1v1 or 2v2 settings.

I hope you realize they have added more content in a few months than they have in the past few years. .
Yet they still demonstrate almost zero knowledge about what needs to be done and the mode is still bleeding players.
Seriously, when you have to merge 4 servers together just to get enough players to fight, it’s going from bad to worse. How long till WvW is just 5-6 servers and all the rest are empty ?
I’m looking forward to merges, I think it will put WvW in a far healthier place.
I am hoping that WvW survives the upcoming MMOs with “massive battles” in them.
TBH I don’t because the market is too small to have many competing products and anet have completely lost my trust that they know what they’re doing.
To the people complaining about Arenanets “lack of vision”: I would say their vision is to give the people what they want and they try to find out what we want through polls.
Thats not a vision for the game though, it reflects their lack of vision in that they don’t know how to improve it.
The problem with this is as always and also here on the forums:
1. different people want different stuff, but most of them are a minority. The loudest are often not in the majority, because their vision is too extreme.
2. many people don’t know what they want before they could try it.
2. is exactly why they should have game designers experienced in this mode.
Anet seriously needs to STOP listening to its players and design a game that is actually entertaining. They need to work within the technical limitations and produce something that is appealing from a gameplay perspective.
The biggest problem with WvW is that Anet itself has no vision of the game mode. Its turning into a poll generated catastrophe.
Yep I agree and have been saying similarly since the poll driven approach became so pervasive. They clearly have no developer at anet with any vision for a large scale pvp game mode. Whats more they have actively sabotaged player created enhancements rather than encouraged them.
This had to be deliberate by anet.
Transfer and make it 11v0 so that one server dies and Anet realize they should do what should have done earlier. Merge, dont link.

Roaming sucked on DBL. Partially because of the WP system and partially because of the numerous obstacles.
Roamers on my server like the DBL because of the many paths to camps etc.

I have just found out; because i got to Ruby last season, and that caused me to begin this season in Emerald; i lost out on crossing the Amber division.
You didn’t lose out they automatically gave you a division crossing attribution for starting in emerald.

Well, if I was right above, they were thinking that linking would probably diminish server identity, thereby making mergers less controversial.

Repair Hammers will be disabled in the next release. You will be able to sell them to earn your money back if you have not used them by then. We will hold a poll after they are disabled to determine if they should be added back into the game, possibly with tweaks, as a permanent feature.

Fractals – used to, but after they nerfed my rank 72 down to 50, then reset it wholly again down to 30, I no longer do them and don’t care about anything associated with them.
Guilds – I spent a mad amount of time, effort AND GEMS developing my personal guild, ALL OF WHICH went bye-bye when HoT launched without anything in return, no refunds of any kind, nothing.
My favorite game mode, WVW, was neglected completely for about 3 1/2 years until it almost entirely collapsed. Reward tracks, server links, etc. have barely saved it from having a cardiac arrest, but its still on the brink of coming and going in and out of ICU.
These 2 are tied together with the way they completely took away what guilds had earned prior to HOT and stuck it behind a huge PvE grind to earn back what we had before. I also tie it into the fractal changes in that they took away player progress that they had earned. Its the same principle.
They clearly don’t understand taking away what we had earned is a recipe for making players angry and are hardly player friendly changes and anet had a reputation as a player friendly developer.

Its a criminal conviction if done using actual company shares and is classed as securities fraud. The fact that its done in a game is in principle no different. And that line is somewhat blurred given the ability to use cash to buy in game currency.

Let me guess, you are one of the people who expected GW2 to be just like GW but bigger. Same degree of complexity around traits and professions. Same new expansion every year that was as big as the original game. No cash shop except of things like character slots. And because it’s not you have been rallying against GW2 since launch.

I thought that vanilla GW2 was great and did not play GW1.
What I want is some sort of response from the community in regards to what Anet did.While I no longer play this game, it would be soul crushing to know that completely changing your direction mid an MMO, not delivering on the promises and abandoning parts of the game would be met with a revenue increase.
For the sake of all of you guys playing, I do not want the game to die, even though it no longer will have me as a customer, however I want Anet to realize that going back on their promises is wrong and that they should choose a stable direction for a game that is now all over the place (no matter it is casual or hardcore).
I think that that is what a lot of ex players are seeking here with venting their frustrations out. They want the company to learn and be better at maintaining the game and delivering more content. They do not like the fact that Anet’s response to a fall in revenue is to release the next expansion faster, because that might mean that they will put even less work into it.
They didn’t completely change it, you didn’t keep up. Rather they’ve been changing it a bit at a time, gradually all along. It’s been going in this direction since ascended gear was introduced a few months after launch.
I actually agree with this, the seeds for what the game has become were first sown in that change, however I think those changes were and are a bad thing.

I feel Engi, to its full potential, is the best class in PvP. Too much passive defenses and too much damage. Although I guess the trade off is it takes a while to fully master the class.

I’ve been on several servers throughout the life of this game and JQ provides the friendliest WvW experience by far.
TW is totally engaged fighting MAG in EB right now, being pin sniped, moaed, but having fun.

Why wasn’t Darkhaven put into the quad server?
Perhaps if they actually made a good moba like mode then we might like it. SH is really poorly designed. Anet clearly have really bad internal feedback mechanisms that just do not provide meaningful feedback on developments. SH and the Desert BL for WvW are prime examples.
They could have used the funding to actually make different modes that players wanted like CTF or proper deathmatch.
Also note that we never got a response from Mr. Cartwright.

Didn’t people were crying about bringing alpine BL back ? , and now that we have it no one plays on those maps , did the people finally realize that desert BL wasn’t that bad?

If you want fights then anything in T1 / T2.T1 for larger scale combat, T2 FA / MAG if your more interested in havoc / defending. Mag has a growing but smaller OCX and could use extra’s, FA has an existing presence but still falls well short of the T1 OCX coverage.
JQ’s OCX is dead. We rolled right over SoX as we usually did but there was no other JQ force out.
You base this on 1 night which was a Saturday night. As for running over sox yes well its easy when you have more than double our numbers

Not really. Our OCX has never been as active as it has been now since Season 1 (not counting Seasons activity). We queued 2 maps last night towards the end of OCX. Our EBG was queued 40 deep (we usually queue the map during reset night OCX regardless). Granted, it’s the weekend, and most of BG are weekend warriors, but it is indicative of BG’s ability to maintain our population, whether through transfers or through internal growth.
Now if only we can get those guys to play during the week….

As is typical anet have stuffed up the implementation of links. There needs to be flexibility in the system for it to work as well as linking being done with some forethought, which is why monthly relinks should have been chosen. 2 months is simply too inflexible, as well as the stupidity of linking the 4 servers together, some of whom were previously linked to T1 servers and were the apparent beneficiary of significant transfers with those links.
My guildmates make WvW awesome, I have lost all faith in Anet so without my guild and some of the enemies this game would be no fun anymore.

The solution is better server pairing. Anyone could see after the first day that CD quad server alliance was too strong for the rest of tier 4.
Exactly this, do not pair the top three servers, I’m from Piken and we haven’t been paired with anyone yet but it hasn’t hurt us in any way.
Simply don’t pair anyone in T1 and problem is solved, why should 1 server who was at the bot now be number 1 coz they are paired with the number 1 server. bring all the lower tier servers together to match the T1 in numbers and you’d get more even fights.
And what happens when a server pushes into T1 and the former T1 server goes down and is facing servers with links like happened with YB? I know YB is close to universally disliked but still what happened to them was absurd.

.DB has the most in ocx time now. On JQ tonight we have been fighting against 60 DB with 20 of us.
My meaning was that JQ is rolling T2 the most frequently of the 4 T1 class servers. Even if JQ has lost guilds I’d be shocked if you only had one 20 man zerg in these time zones.
Well you made no distinction between T2 and T1, the fact is there is no ocx in T2 ATM except for whatever T1 or T1.5 server is in T2 at the time.

Overwatch = People don’t get mad or toxic at the Reaper who died to Phara flying high with Reaper on point, nor do they get mad or toxic at the Phara blind sided by S-76.
Funny thing. RPS is not a great design. Nobody really likes to end up as paper to someone else’s scissors. Besides, it relegates too much importance from skill to vagaries of chance.
You should win because you are a better player, not because you happen to be running Paper against Rock.
Hence why OW has hero switching on the fly and is heavily team based moreso than GW2.
A new race, new weapon set for each class, a new trait line for each class and the updated meta will revolve around the new trait lines so we will have to buy to stay competitive.
Oh and at least two large changes that are expected will be watered down or not implemented at all.
And yep most of us still around will buy it.

Look again… it runs two traps and Durability. Not only is it cheese, it is cheese with extra cheese on it.
To be cheese it would have to use traps to burst down enemies. The build literally can’t do that. Traps in this build are used as they should, as aoe cc.
