So where should we go next? Blizzard’s Overwatch has my attention. Other games will be coming in 2016. IMO if you jump into BnS and think the sPvP side of that game is going to get a lot of budget to be great think again. We get down to the inherent differences between stand alone sPvP games and sPvP games that live inside/imprisoned inside an MMO client.
If you can’t rationalize why sPvP baked into an MMORPG will always get much less polish than stand alone sPvP games then a class on economics or business management may be worth your time.
Problem is we can only get mmo style combat in an mmo. It would be interesting if there was an mmo style pvp game on its own with no pve side.
I’m waiting for more FPS games like Overwatch, Battleborn and the new Unreal Tournament. Also in terms of large scale pvp I’m waiting for Camelot Unchained and Crowfall.

That depends on which Tempest you are looking at. Melee ranged skills do not go well with glassy staff tempests.
What? Ele as a class already had 2 melee range specs, it didn’t need another.

The 50% w/l system is just a failure especially when combined with the pip progression system. But its too late for anet to change something so fundamental and I doubt they would even acknowledge it as a flawed system.

As for DK playing a lot, he definitely can and does play in long spurts but not sure what that has to do with this topic. He also goes on fairly long runs where he doesn’t play such as just after the HoT release when TW was on YB.
When he doesn’t play YB don’t win.

You realize that Blade and Soul, like Wild Star and Guild Wars, is an NCSoft product, right?
For some time now, GW2 is no longer a NCSoft product. Anet got kitten loads of money from HoT so they could afford the split.
The current state of balance is one of the first things that is 100% on Anet only.
Anet are still owned by NCSoft. So ultimately it is still an ncsoft product.
Ban hammer for using a WP? Really? You expect an entire group of players to say, “Well, that would be impolite to use the WP, so let’s go to our spawn and run back from there, like it should be if there were no bugs.” It’s Anet’s fault, not the player’s fault.
Not to mention his own server would be using the bug as well.
YB disperses its man power over all the maps rather than concentrating it on one. They tend to get rolled by the big BG and JQ zergs which play the old style Alpine game play of map hopping with one large force to defend/attack. YB adapted and plays the way ANet likely meant WvW to be played with multiple commanders running on multiple maps rather than one unified group.
BG and JQ have concentrated in EBG cause they largely hate the desert BL, YB are not doing anything innovative just not concentrating on EB. Guilds on BG and JQ literally don’t care that it means they lose PPT. As for winning because of multiple commanders its actually more because you have a well known pugmander running a zerg long hours backcapping objectives constantly while BG and JQ are fighting in EB.
We only get them twice a year. I can wait longer for one if it gives the game as a whole six months of relative peace between classes.
Meant to be 4 times a year now with PvP leagues.
Stability is fine. I see zergs run right thru CC all the time. I go deep with warr or guard and come out without being stunlocked. Trick is you have to have skill and time you stabs/stunbreaks/evades/dodges/invuns.
I chase down mesmers, eles ect that don’t seem bothered by CC at all. Probably all the new passives but they ain’t getting caught no sir.
You’re talking about on a 1v1 basis. The fact that the pirate ship meta is just getting worse shows that stability overall is still in need of a rework.
All servers are now open so yeah I think its losing players.

It seems like every time I have 4 pips in a tier I’m matched against a pre-made group or the opposing team has 2 or 3 Ruby players on their side.
Is this 4th pip cursed or is there something I don’t understand about this crazy match making system?

The finals are in February, so I dont expect a balance patch until March.
They promised a balance patch between every season which is early Feb. They have made it clear that the ESL pro tournament is for marketing only so I expect there to be a patch between seasons, whether its extensive enough is another issue though.
Its ridiculous that this hasn’t been hotfixed already. Should have been highest priority.
As for JQ, when the large majority of guilds are queuing for EBG rather than playing on the BLs they are not playing for ppt, this is self evident.
You sure about that? There was quite a bit of blue on the BLs earlier today.

i dont know about anyone else but once i get the pcs needed to make the back pc i will stay to unranked dailies only.
This isnt a league system its a grind system. They know for the most part what our skill levels are and instead of simply putting us in a certain division based on skill and rewarding us for playing the game. They said
step 1 make them grind games
step 2 make it so once they grind out wins they will have to wait long periods of time to face other players if they get to a high level.
This is spot on. Its clear from all HOT content that anet are a one trick pony in terms of player retention, all they can do is add more and more grind to all game systems.
I speculate that JQ is the only server left in all of WvW that consistently has a queue on EBG. BG and YB both have very small queues on the rare occasion that there is even a queue. I don’t remember the last time I saw one over 30.
On reset night past (na prime time), BG was queuing over 100 on EB and 40 on it’s home Desert Border land, just saying. But we don’t have the coverage that we used to, so we inevitably get left in the dust at the end of the week, score wise.
Its actually more that YB has an insane nolife commander that plays hugely long hours and concentrates on backcapping the BLs while BG and JQ guilds are looking for fights on EBG. JQ and BG are essentially only playing for fights now they don’t care about ppt generally.
You are a member of SoX are you not? And you are saying JQ guilds are only playing for fights? When both KILL and SoX would run away from eN when we were on YB, unless you had at least 2x the numbers? When was the last time SoX ever looked for fights? Probably when we last had a GvG with you guys about a year ago, one pushed you in one round, and ever since then, Capp has dodged every single request.
Since HOT SoX has averaged under 15 people during its raids so unless you were only running 8 or less………………….. Be that as it may I did say generally, occasionally guilds will pvp but the general attitude on JQ is to look for fights rather than ppt.

Clearly posts on reddit such as Matts recent post on the legendary collections should also be posted on the forum. OK he’s familiar with reddit, but this forum isn’t hard to use and understand.
Chaith is playing with 1 ATM, using nades, elixir S and FT. Not sure what traits he settled on, when I watched his stream yesterday he was using explosives, firearms and scrapper.

Actually I’m pretty sure the stability rework was made for WvW. If I recall correctly they said stability shouldn’t make you able to cross an entire army of people without getting hit by cc which is purely about WvW.
That could have been their main intention but was nowhere near to what WvW needed. It is far from being balanced, it only induced the pirate ship meta which was finally the nail on the coffin to many guilds, making them quit entirely.
Spot on, that 1 change caused a massive degeneration in the WvW meta, something they still haven’t come to grips with even now. Heck they probably don’t even understand it.

.. for the next balance patch. Because PvP and PvE balance are still not separate! Balance team has to cater to PvE crowd which also means no drastic changes. And the first thing we need right now are drastic changes.
And with raids the issue is going to get worse. They aren’t going to want to make changes that might make raids significantly harder.
Just remove MMR altogether and do everything by tiers.
Let results show skill
Its actually the opposite, if the league was based purely on MMR and not divisions then it would be fairer.
Why aren’t people doing this while they were in the lower divisions where you cant lose tiers? Boggles the mind.

IDK if i’m missing something, but you have to repeat this same achievement 4 times, not just once.
Ascension part 1 is 2 different professions, and Ascension part 2 through 4 are all 5 wins on 3 different professions.
You have no idea how frustrating it is to play a game with a class you’re not familiar with in a high tier enviroment.
Yes you can’t start the year of ascension part 3 one until you reach Ruby where you do lose tiers and I guess the part 4 one has to be done when you are legendary, or wait for next season.
rating decay was a HUGE burnout mechanic in WoW pvp back in the old days
One of the first things they did was get rid of rating decay because it was COMPLETELY burning out a lot of players
I reckon the current GW2 league system will have the same effect if its not revised.
Also, the devs that do post there may simply be checking it out for other reasons and stumble upon posts that they have answers for or were the lead in implementing a feature being discussed. I also would not be surprised if the devs answering there have been roaming reddit in the days before GW2’s launch.
The guy now doing legendary collections did not just stumble on something there he initiated a thread on what he was doing in that area. I still haven’t seen the same post on here.

It’s been disclosed countless time on reddit already ; HoT release with the introduction of new specs is the balance patch for the first league season.
There is no need for further discussion, since this gives a good insight on how they view balance.
Well yeah but we can discusss conclusions from that, which is that balance does not have a high priority. Someone pointed out in another thread that HOT should not be considered a balance patch by any reasonable person because it introduced new features not balanced existing features.

Anet should close that chapter until they work out the bugs, instead of letting people waste hours trying to finish it. Personally I am 1 for 5 completion thats 80% bug out… completely unacceptable.
AFAIK they haven’t even acknowledged the bugs. I said weeks ago it should be a top priority but no they don’t seem to care about the centerpiece to the xpac.

The whole system is pretty bad. But unfortunately there’s no real way to cater to smaller guilds because that would be easily taken advantage of by all guilds.
Other than that, even for larger guilds, this is a a pretty big wall of grind to jump over for chairs you can’t sit on.
Other games manage to do it successsfully but of course anet think they know best.
I’ve played some of those other games. The gold spam in some games is ridiculous. Far worse than this one. I personally don’t consent to give free players more freedom at the expense of paying players.
What the hell do gold sellers have to do with guild halls?
They are, Proofs for THAT character being heroic, not, “Hey lets find a loophole in the system, and give a new character enough HP to unlock everything at level 2, Proofs.”
Seriously, if you enjoy WvW, it shouldn’t feel like a grind.
Then let’s remove tomes and craft leveling and make it all heroic
I think that they should make them, Soul-bound like they did to Proofs, that way PvE players would be on the same field as WvW players, but then, we need to be able to use those tomes as a currency, because I know people that have stacks of them…

Nope still waiting for the data from John that he promised. Meanwhile the player base clearly wants the reset to be moved back.
Here is a fact for you that you seem completely oblivious to. Anet peridodically changes the threshold for low/medium/high and full servers. Without actual numbers all you are spewing is bloated opinion not fact.
Yet the metrics confirm the anecdotal observations. I don’t think anet have changed the threshold since the change in how population caps were calculated months ago.
What is the build?
They take time but aren’t impossible solo except maybe for the point of no return achievements but the other achievements get you everything but 1 earring.
It is still very casual friendly, just not friendly to bad players who are unwilling to improve. Casual does not equal bad player. Even players with a low amount of time can play very well if they desire.
And that in a nutshell is the problem with the direction ANet has taken. When it was first introduced it was advertised as the game for those that don’t like the traditional MMO. Friendly atmosphere, no grind, no “I swing a sword again”.
But the current iteration is EXACTLY what many of us were running away from!
And the grind is worse than many other top mmos now.

I understand Anet, you designed some of these things such as banners, keep upgrades, etc.. to help the little guys. But that’s not what really happens. What happens in reality is larger, organized guilds/groups are abusing your new gimmicks to the extreme. Large guilds & zergs that didn’t need help before are now just roflstomping through with these cheese banners. What used to be a test of skill, concentration, and driving between 2 fairly even numbered zergs/groups, now the fight greatly tips towards the side using these banners.
Even in siege combat, what used to be a heck of a long siege between 2 zergs over a defended keep. Now it has become impossible to siege a defended & upgraded keep with equal numbers.
These things such as turtle banners are ruining what used to be good, equal, even fights. You aren’t helping the lil guys or the under-pop server. You’re actually buffing guilds & large zergs that didn’t need help in the first place.
If it was introduced to benefit smaller groups why didn’t they think larger zergs would use them? Plus there’s the fact that they are locked behind grinds that only large guilds can afford.
The lack of forethought behind them reminds me of when AC damage was first increased.
Technically, though it’d be a bit more substantial if we had people agreeing/disagreeing with it.
Its just more of the PvE mentality pervading WvW development, overpowered siege/special abilities taking away from the actual skill of the players.
So how do you know the intent if for friends or not?
I would just classify it as a Failure of leagues system itself.
Innocent until proven guilty.
And yes I also regard it as a systemic failure.
If the intent is to play with friends then they’re not doing it to get into matches they would have otherwise not got into. And anyway its up to the matchmaking to ensure the teams are even with the matches they do get into.
Whether they’re queuing with their friends or some random “anchor” out of the mists is irrelevant. What matters is that they’re using this lower ranked player to bring down their team’s average MMR to the point where the matchmaker will place them into matches that they would never get into otherwise. They’re doing this intentionally.
If all they want to do is play with friends then no it isn’t intentional. Heck if the wait time is hours then its not intentional either. You seem to think knowing the consequences of something makes it intentional, no it doesn’t.
Heck even if they do it just to get matches at all due to the ridiculous queue times at diamond and legendary I don’t blame them at all, given the achievement requirements.
I do blame them because if they’re smart enough to figure out how to game the system then they’re smart enough to know why they shouldn’t. They’re compromising their reputations and moral integrity and causing no small amount of grief for people simply attempting to progress through the ladder in a legitimate fashion. That is unacceptable.
Matchmaking system is supposed to account for that, if it doesn’kittens a systemic issue.
