Game went F2P and adopted the full F2P model even in it’s paid expansion

This. Its seems this is entirely the case. Which is a really sad thing, especially from the standpoint of people, like me that have poured already hundreds of euros in the game.

This is what you poured hundreds of Euro’s in. You made this happen.

(iI it’s true.. don’t get me wrong.. with the current prices it’s hard to say but two things are a fact, multiple content got nerved and gem-items did stay coming. I still hope they make a change towards a more B2P model.)

Yep the game has moved a lot closer to a coercive f2p model. Prior to HOT it was more subtle but its definitely becoming more obvious now.

Obviously no one understands that NO guild was meant to unlock everything in the Guild Hall within the first week or even first 3 weeks. The Guild Hall is a LONG TERM investment, which means small guilds NEED to spread the cost out over MONTHS and not look at weeks. That is how it’s set up currently and I highly doubt it will change.

This would be more OK if they didn’t take away our earned guild buffs and make us re-earn every single one of them via a huge grind along with trying to get the other unlocks.

Before we had dungeons with nice rewards and fractals with ascended gear. With HOT they introduced a new content and murdered dungeons, and reduced the loot on fractals.
Does that mean that in the next expension they are going to nerf raids in order to force us to play to their new content?

Doubt it, the raid is definitely not to hard.

After the league begins, we will be seeing balance patches in six month cycles.

Meant to be quarterly however pvp leagues start before next patch so no patch before 1st league despite what they said so we can’t take them at their word. Presumably there will be no balance pass until league ends in what around 3 months.

People seem to choose it almost by rote, that mesmer build that I think all were running (Chaos, Insp, Chrono) would benefit more from another amulet type than cele IMO.

ANET are focusing on Raids for the next few months, it’s important that the 200 people left doing them in a months time have content to play.

Yeah…. I just tried the raid with my guild for the first time, got through the 3 pre-bosses reasonably well. That raid is never gonna be run by a lot of people, just the timing alone is going to make it impossible for anyone without a fast computer and good connection.

Well, the completed silence on any of the really seriously messed up stuff in either PvE or WvW continues… Esports tho…. Anet loves their esports.

I’ll let you in on a little secret, base level sPvP is not getting the attention it deserves from the devs either. Extremely poor balance with no balance patch before the league starts, so no balance pass now until next year. A poorly implemented dishonor system. Low level players being forced into playing stronghold. The list goes on.

What other than a conspiracy theory could explain Anets sudden need to change WvW reset to saturday after 3 years?

Er HOT release and the possibility of lots of emergency patches.

This last month prove that they dont use their saturday WvW reset for anything other than to kitten us the kitten off with a needless and pointless change.

Like I said there is no reason not to go back to Friday now.

Hahahahaha no. I cant seriously believe you are buying what Anet said about patches. GW2 patches has always been done every other tuesday, leaving plenty of time until friday.

The “critical patches” they have been talking about is activation of sPvP and PvE events (which was patched in tuesday). In other words, kitten WvW we’re supposed to play sPvP and PvE friday/saturday because, well, kitten WvW.

Why did they ever change it in the first place? During the golden age of WvW (as well as when I was the most active), it was friday and no one had a problem with that! It simply makes sense that the new WvW week begins when for most people their weekend begins.
So what was the reasoning?

The former was emphasised but the latter is clearly the reason they did it. Given the time for critical end of week patches has passed they really should move it back.

Have the devs gone radio silence in general for class balance (to keep new meta theorycrafting from starting until balance patch/start of tourney?) or just engineer ignored?

Nobody went into specifics of how this new map should be composed, there were vague suggestions (some of which were implemented like the sentry alert and tougher/higher walls and gates), but nothing about the architecture. We’re only seeing those kind of comments after the fact and during beta, when they’d already gotten too far into a commitment on the overall geography to make any significant changes without massive cost and time.

I would have thought it was the responsibility of anet to obtain knowledge of what makes a decent wargaming map and apply that knowledge, not to rely on player feedback. And players were only able to provide detailed feedback once it was too late.

I think SW works cause the progress is driven by the players rather than the clock. TBH its almost unbelievable that they had found a good model for their event driven game and they ruin it with the xpac. It doesn’t like they foresaw declining population issues and what it would mean for the meta events or that the mega server tech is somewhat problematical.

Love the new maps and this is in T6. Once many guilds become close to completing their upgrades and the new shiny pve stuff begins to dull many people will return to WvW, just like before the expansion came out. The people that can’t seem to be patient for that have to vent their frustration on the forums but this is beyond old and overdone.

People are long past finishing the HOT PvE stuff and not returning to WvW. Yeah raids have just started but its not like players came back then started doing raids.

i am still wondering why players want a map that was also empty for 90% of the time back, and when had players was a karma train from the bigger server.

Does every one plays on T1 where their map was always full ????
All ic is complaining w/o giving proper info on what would make the new map better.

There has been a lot of informed feedback as to what is wrong with the maps across a few threads.

The fact that they didn’t foresee some of these issues has cemented many WvW players perceptions that ANet couldn’t care less for them. In truth I whiteknighted many decisions ANet made for a long while, but I just can’t anymore. I expect to be disappointed with their decisions, and have little to no faith in any direction they choose to take WvW.

Anet have a problem foreseeing many things, not just the WvW change but the population moving away from the HOT maps making them extremely difficult to play.

You’re not too far off on that basis.
Eir’s death is the official birth of the Dragon Hunter (lore wise).
Her son a well known Guardian picks up his mother’s bow and uses the death as a means and motivation to hunt the Elder Dragons.

Except he never used her bow after her death.

It made sense when there was a single map meta event (Clockwork Chaos) in the game at a time. People would go there for living story and for loot and for achievements. But now there are more than five maps that have full-length meta events, and some take more than an hour (Dragon’s Stand). Far too much of a spread-out population. With more people (apparently) leaving on a daily basis, the events will only become less and less populated to the point of either no metas succeeding or only one succeeding at a time. With the latter scenario, the other map events would need to be left to time out, which could take 30 minutes or more.

Yep and the situation should have been foreseen especially tying map completion into it.

Removing people from queue on map travel is a decent middle ground and should be easier than temporarily removing them from the queue. However, even teleporting within a map can have decent load times and hooking up warnings to every way you can leave a map, like Elwinson listed, is still a moderate feat.

The new player argument is obviously not an ideal one, but at the time was decent. I’d argue its more important now that we’ve removed the tutorial, but ideally should not affect where you can queue from once you know how PvP works.

The WvW queue behaves much differently from the PvP queue and cannot be used as an example or launching point unfortunately.

Increasing match accept times I don’t think is an effective or fun solution to this problem.

I would wager the majority of people think match accept times are too short. When we’re waiting for more than a few minutes and we go to get a drink or have a bio break we don’t have time to accept.

The issue is there’s very little to do in HOTM unless you want to practice on golems. If its too problematic to queue outside HOTM then give us stuff like crafting tables and a mystic forge in HOTM.

Hence why they have no strategic importance now.

What a.net decided to do in the desert maps is to make rampart much easier to defend by removing the treb shenanigans from north towers. So if one server is struggling, they could join on the home borderland map and try to at least defend their 3 main objectives (2 towers + keep).

The North towers gave defenders a platform to launch from and made it easier to take garri back, in all actually made it easier to defend the north section of home BL.

This change is a boost to defending objectives, which is a good thing. Unless people loved attacking only and flipping objectives constantly.

Funny with the way the BL is set up its made to flip objectives constantly even the north towers cause there are so many way to bypass the other servers.

Seems we must get use to it, that GW2 is more towards PvP and PvE (casual/raiding).

I believe GW2 is actually heading in the P2P (Pay to Play) direction. Someone correct me if I’m wrong —, but I believe you can now buy Ascended weapons and armor from Raid vendors? 20g each?

Can someone expand on this? Can we buy a vendor currency on the TP or something and use it to buy ascended?

The fact that you can’t treb from one tower to keep makes if much more easier to defend objectives which was a really big problem in the old map and in EBG. It’s not a matter of preferences if you like it or not, it’s about improving defense and giving an extra chance to the outnumbered server to defend their objectives.

Yeah thats what anet thought but its wrong. By isolating garri they have actually made it more vulnerable if people were actually playing on the map cause there is no support from towers. Plus it removes the towers as strategic objectives completely. As a strategic wargame map its utterly terrible. As people have been saying the towers actually should have been made more important as strategic objectives and that in itself would have better aided defence of the major strategic objectives.

Well I made an Insignia on my tailor, but how do I discover it?

If you are talking about crafting armor with the marauder stats I think you answered your own question.

You’ve made an insignia now you just make the specific armor pieces you want and then you combine them in the discovery tab just like normal crafting.

Don’t think discovery works for newer stats like that. You actually have to have the recipes drop.

Marauder is one of the new stats you can craft. The insignia recipe you can buy from the usual crafting vendors. The recipe sheets for the individual pieces are drops. The drops seem to be map dependent with Minstrel from Verdant Brink and Viper from Auric Basin. I haven’t gotten far enough to know the location for Marauder.

Drops are pretty much all over the HOT maps and the ebony orbs can come from any ancient wood node but they are very rare.

There’s no reason to do dungeons anymore, with the sole exception of wanting a certain skin or rune. And if you want these, good luck getting a party to run them.

RIP home borderlands?

The Borderlands desperately needed redesigned, but they failed miserably. They went in the complete wrong direction and took away the minor bit of strategic layout that there was. The maps need to be designed from a defender’s point of view, specifically the layout. To do anything else is to actively screw them up. And you end up with the Desert map.

Whats funny (or tragic) is that their intention with the design was to help defenders. They clearly lack the design nous to properly build a strategic map and they didn’t seek advice from people with more knowledge in this area.

Its not just engi though, its all classes when I get back on I’m going to remove the graphics option to reduce visual clutter or whatever its called.

Not optional, the changes were global. Also not all classes, just eles, engis, and mesmers.

I know they were but isn’t there still the option to reduce particle effects?

HUGE Dishonor System Issue

The 15 minute timeout is for the first offense. The dishonor lingers on your account for much much longer, resulting in a longer timeout if you abandon another match.

Since you’re answering in this thread and not the other one about the dishonor system. There is the related issue that the time for accepting a match is too short and now if we go for a bio break or even just to get a drink we risk getting a dishonor for 15 mins. Is it considered reasonable we sit glued to the computer for however long a queue takes without leaving the computer at all? Even if the queue is long?

I really feel that their design philosophy of not sharing anything with us until its so far along in the development doesn’t work for wvw. Those of you that think you were actually beta testing on those beta weekends are delusional. They were promotional weekends to build hype. Sure maybe some minor things were able to be tweaked from feedback, but it was way too late in the development process to make any meaningful changes for HoT.

Sure as a beta tester I agree it was only for bug testing and hype building. However they did ask for feedback and feedback was given similar to many of the criticisms detailed since it went live.

My guild group killed the Vale Guardian last night. This was the build I was running. I would link a video but I’m not sure Brazil has one up yet.

Thanks Phineas I was watching Brazil’s stream but on a phone so it wasn’t clear. Why use perfectly weighted when you don’t run hammer? Just for the stab?

I also cannot stress enough how huge the function gyro is as a resurrection option. There are many times where the raid literally would have wiped if we did not have gyros at the ready to res people that got teleported and downed away from the raid. When a video becomes available you’ll see what I mean.

Just wanted to pull out this section for all the people that said engis had “no elite mechanic in PvE”, lol. Funny how that changes when we get difficult content.

People were criticising the elite mechanic even when it has clear uses in PvP and WvW, the fact that it has some uses does not change the fact that the elite mechanic is thin.

Are people reading the same patch notes? Nothing has changed. This wasn’t a balance update.

Its now less than 2 weeks before league starts, we were promised balance patches before every season and there isn’t the opportunity now for one before it starts. Which means no balance patch until next year.

The rest of us know nothing about the terms of the NDA. They very well could have been in violation of it with what they did.

The message from anet contains nothing about breaking the NDA.

ps. Nothing that is dropped in a raid, or can be purchased from raid vendors, should be sellable – it should all be account bound.

KILLED WvW Guilds

I don’t think they can fix it, I agree this was an absurd change though. Guilds should not have lost the upgrades they had EARNED before and there should not be a stupidly long PvE grind for WvW upgrades. Its almost beyond belief that they thought this was reasonable.

It doesn’t look good for Anet if the guild they gave privileged access to is trolling the community on release day.

No probably not but would have thought the mature reaction would be to talk to the guild behind closed doors. It doesn’t look like they broke the NDA or anything.

no, overloads are awful. the entire concept of slow-casting, easily-interrupted, melee-range channels was a terrible idea.

In all honesty, I can’t think of a worse mechanic for Ele.

It basically killed the class for me.

A little melodramatic, don’t you think? They’re no slower than some other skills, there are traits to prevent interruption, they reduce damage and control and they give better survivability in melee.

They don’t give better survivability, the only tempest spec to thrive is auramancer D/F and it relies on auras for survivability.

I think we’re mixing arguments here, and you may also be talking about pvp which I know nothing about. I’m happily running around with a s/h spec in pve.

On the subject of overloads, they do give better survivability. They break stuns and, using the appropriate traits, you get ‘massive’ resistance to various controls as well as stability, speed and might. Air overload is fantastic for clearing trash mobs and pocket raptors. I run into the middle of them, use air overload with fire shout and soon everything is dead. For bigger things, I run into them and overload fire. Earth’s overload is a handy means of escape. I’m by no means a great player but since getting into overloads the jungle has become an easier place.

And the best part is, they’re optional so you can keep playing the class without using them. If that still ‘kills’ the class for you, then.. I don’t know what to say.

So you’re talking about open world PvE, which is basically irrelevant in these sort of debates. I can do all of the above without overloads so survivability is not better.

Well it is a large issue, I just feel like they have a lot of other big fish to fry as well. Such as cc being out of control, bugs, terrible build diversity, too many face roll aoe abilities, too many blocks, blinds, and evades, ect.

Would think balance comes before any of that, well maybe not huge bugs but its not like they’re fixing a large amount of bugs either.
