I think it’d be fine if they put a lvl 60 restriction on the karma orichalcum tools.

On the other hand, I don’t think it’d have a measurable effect on the orichalcum market.

Guild wars 2 uses the carrot on the stick event system in PVE. Theres no reason to have a commander tag in PVE. The game events circle the area of the event, and in many cases have NPCs that you are supposed to follow not a commander.

Let me give you a different application.

My guild hosts a number of events. Some in wvw, some in pve, even a couple in pvp.

For pve events, we’ll get a squad (often more than fit in a squad) of people going thru pve zones, hitting all the skill points, vistas, triggering the events, and so on. Of course any player who wants to do it solo could do it solo. Or in a small party. We have fun in big groups, too, and the commander book gives some support to it. We also do gathering groups and “Guild Wars 101” events where people can learn more about the game.

The commander for pve isn’t because it’s necessary. There’s no place in the game where a commander is needed. In wvw, the keeps don’t move and people could certainly do without commanders, just using chat or voip to organize. Commander makes it easier to get people involved, and organized on a larger scale than they would alone.

I’m actually more interested as to what name you were using that was ‘inappropriate’. Your forum name is in no way offensive, because besides popular belief, Lucifer is a common name an many countries, and flagging it as offensive would be an act of discrimination. I would seriously put in a complaint about that.

There’s no telling about what names get reported. I had a friend whose main was named for an Irish village, and was forced to change it. Rather than look at the actual name, they take the report itself as evidence the name’s offensive.

They’re not using the actual client. It’s much better to detect (or better yet, break) the bot on server side than to rely on observed behavior in the rendered game. I think Arenanet believes this, too.

Reporting of bots and people getting mad about cheaters — that aspect is a PR side of it. Getting them out of our game is a programming issue.

ArenaNet can get the bot programs just as easily as the bot makers can get the client. Then it’s an issue of who can reverse-engineer the other guy better.

Problem: Everypony love Twilight.

You ARE the problem of inflating price. Other precursors except dawn(another twilight) and the legend are below your 100-200g range.

This. Very few precursors are actually in the 100-200g bracket.

Some are as low as 20-30g. When people say they can’t afford a precursor, what they really mean is they can’t afford a precursor greatsword

The ones that are cheap are mostly underwater precursors.

I’m not sure why no one wants those, but I have my suspicions (they can’t be seen on land, so you can’t show them off in town to feel superior to the unwashed masses, which seems to be the reason most people want a legendary these days)

no its that most classes are horribly bad underwater and a legendary won t help….

They decided to make legendary top tier forever…so i decided to try to start to build an incinerator (i really hate the skin also -.- possibly the worst legendary….) i would never thougt of it if it weren t for at least having one less concern every major patch…

Btw i won t be able to get 250 gold for the precursor possibly ever unless i start farming orr like a bot…..if this is even still possible.

Do all the other gathering first. With any luck, there’ll be a new dagger legendary that’s not so goofy by the time you have all your tokens/badges/stack of mats/million karma…

wvw queue times have gone way down because wvw has been in dire name of fixes, yet the only dev attention its received is to take things away. There’s something wrong when the whole meta has revolved around exploiting bugs and glitches.

Do the math — there’s an average of over 40,000 accounts per server. There’s only room for 500 in wvw. 1/80th = 1.25% is the max wvw capacity, which means wvw players are about as common as autism.

Anyhow, today at noon there were 9 servers that were not full. It’s better to try during non-primetime. How many servers does your girlfriend need?

Wouldn’t more relevant to talk about the highest buy offer prices? Cuz I doubt anyone would save up for a dusk and then be too impatient to wait for a seller.

The buy-it-now folks are flippers, doncha think?

Edit: I checked it out, and 405g would make you the highest bidder for Dusk, despite its 510g offer. The top ten offers start around 300. It would appear not that many people have actually finished up the other Gifts.

Please explain the Server Population system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mulch.2586

mulch.2586

It’s baffling why server status is based on the number of accounts on the server in a B2P game. It makes perfect sense in a subscription game, because players would be stupid to consider paying for a subscription when they are not playing the game at least some of the time. But in a B2P game, there could be tons and tons of accounts that have absolutely no activity at all. And these accounts are preventing people getting on the server who would actively play.

It makes no sense at all.

Cheers.

It actually does make sense, in the same sort of approach that gives principled procedures to know how big a 911 switchboard should be, or how to configure telecommunications switches. The load is determined by concurrent and potential users. There actually is a mathematics & science behind this stuff.

For what it’s worth, there’s one fewer open servers today than there was yesterday when I looked. The sky is falling.

When is chest loot determined?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mulch.2586

mulch.2586

Th definitive test would be a lower-level character who earns a chest without leveling, then kills another mob or two sufficient to level.

Low-level chests contain loot up to the character’s level. If there’s loot in the chest from the character’s new, higher level, that would be evidence that chest loot level is determined when it’s looted, not when it’s earned.

I don’t care enough to try to get those data.

The other stuff about non-random RNG… Systematic dependencies can/do happen with digital simulated randomness. However it happens in GW2, I don’t think it’ll have anything to do with the superstitions surrounding it.

You’ve never gotten loot a couple of levels above your own?

Only since Mad King, not on the previously-existing pve content’s chests.

In any case, I don’t find it an interesting question. And I’m someone who’s thrown years of work into some obscure questions.

Dude, don’t be mad. I ‘conveniently’ left it out because I hardly play WvW and thus did not consider it. But on reflection, even the boosters there hardly matter, it’s one big zergfest anyway. Nonetheless, I think they should make the boosters work only in PvE (not WvW). And conveniently then, your whole point about the Gem Store is moot, which it already largely is.

People that buy boosters with RL money can run dungeons quicker

Doesnt matter that a lot of people don’t, the fact is that it is possible.

Honestly how are people even arguing the gem store doesnt give any advantage to those spend real money? Like I said before, you can argue how much of an advantage it gives, but it does give an advantage.

It doesn’t give an advantage because you could buy that same item with gems you got from pvp or bought with gold instead of real money.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mulch.2586

I was always disapointed with Arenanet when I found out about the gem store, and it got worse the more I went into it. They originally said no player would gain any advantage from the shop, it would be purely cosmetic. Well what can you buy in the shop?

- Extra bank/inventory slots (useful when farming/crafting/collecting, the default space is not much, if I have to carry several stacks of tokens on my character with limited slots, I can hold less loot and will therefore be at a disadvantage to those with more slots)
- Boosters, making the game easier for the cost of money, it doesn’t matter that these items aren’t that popular – the fact is gems give a direct advantage of some sort to people spending money
- Gold/Cash, speaks for itself, buying gold with money straight from Arenanet, gives a direct advantage to those spending money.
- Black lion keys, which gives black lion chests, which give black lion salvage kits, which give a higher rate of ecto drops, which gives that player an advantage for buying stuff from the gem store, yet again.

And the total laugh of it is, all these things that give players an advantage, are not what people want to spend money on the gem store!! They want skins, costumes, quirky hats, funny mini pets. Which seem to be less of a priority in the gem store, compared to things that give players an advantage over the none gem buying customer.

The gem store is completely wrong in what I thought it was going to be, and only hear people talk about how there is nothing worth while on the gem store.

GW2 needs to look at the LoL store, I have spent more money on skins and have never touched IP boosts, and I am sure people only buy champions if they are desperate – they dont do it every new champion thats for sure!

None of those things give you a direct advantage in PvP, nor are they that much of an advantage in PvE.

They need to keep the game profitable, and I’m glad they do it this way as opposed to a subscription. Most of the things you can buy are purely cosmetic, and the other things kinda make the gameplay easier, but not better.

I noticed you conveniently left out WvW, those boosters give clear advantage over others – speed/regen boost anyone? An advantage is an advantage, doesn’t matter how you try and spin your words, you just make yourself look like a goober.

They said from the start that if you want a fair playing field, they have that in spvp.

WvW is supposed to have buy to win aspects to it, and is not intended to be balanced. If someone comes with lots of Paypal gold, they can bolster their team. If you have a server ventrilo. On the other hand, boosters’ effects are pretty small.

Note that absolutely anything in the gem store can be purchased with Paypal or with gold. So if you want those boosters, you can have them without spending real $$.

Yeah, once it became clear that vertical progression was here to stay I stopped purchasing gems. It really makes no sense to chase the next step on a treadmill with RL currency. At least the WoW treadmill is a free ride. I was wondering whether there were others like me out there.

I’m way out of the loop. I thought WoW was monthly fee.

I don’t see in principle why/how RL vs in-game currency is a distinction that matters for gear upgrades.

The link you posted contains all of the methods to get Ascended back pieces at present. You missed out on “Method 2.”

Really, though, more importantly- don’t worry about it for now at all. Easier methods are confirmed to be coming and the only stat boost is quite negligible at this time.

Not necessarily “easier” because that of course depends on what you do in game. If you’re doing fractals progression for the fun of it, you’ll get the pieces as you go.

Definitely the stats boost is so small (at least so far with what’s in-game) that even a full set of ascended represents no discernible performance increase in-game.

Rune of Divinity or Ruby Orb

mulch.2586

You may play any inferior style if you want to.

No offense, but who are you to judge?
What makes you so God-like in this game that you can belittle someone for what works for them?

I’m not really a fan of “everybody is right for themselves” philosophy. As I said, I have to be blunt about rune of divinity. It’s a bad choice, there is no other way to put it. You may like it, you may not like it, you may stick with it: but if you want to improve consider other runes and upgrade.

So I have to infer that you are a fan of everybody is right if they agree with you.
It’s the only conclusion I can come to given the fact that you did not answer my queries.
There’s blunt then there’s insulting and abusive, you are the latter.

So I’ll ask again: who are you to judge and what makes you so God-like in this game that you can belittle someone for what works for them?

One other thing, you chastise some here for “knowing better” than others, yet you are doing the same thing, hypocritical much?

Just let it go. Anyone who makes absolute statements about stats values on runes is misunderstanding character statistics and how they influence gameplay.

All that’s being discussed here is a percent or two difference in actual in-game performance. There’s no such thing as a “bad” choice when there’s no functional difference between choices.

I think the pvp system was the biggest blunder. The eSport that wasn’t. Launching with it not ready to play was especially bad because it only takes a few minutes to get into it.

At least for dungeon runners, it took some time to see the weaknesses there, because of needing level up and gear up.

I was searching for spvp stuff this weekend. Most of what comes up on google is from pre-launch. That’s rather kitten And there was nothing on the first several pages on google that was more recent than October.

It’s not quite true to say the whole pvp community moved on. But almost everyone’s left.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The point with a legendary is that they require almost every part of the game (just not pvp), along with a huge investment of wealth.

So necessarily if there’s a part of the game you don’t love, you’re not gonna love that part of the legendary.

I really wish wvw didn’t suck so much. But it’s not as bad as being “forced” to endure map completion in Lornar’s Pass and zones like that in a game with no mount (flyin or otherwise)

I feel like quitting the game due to Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mulch.2586

And once again, I’m left wondering why include the stat upgrades at all.

That’s the million dollar question, which we’ll never get a real answer to.

We all have a good idea why of course, it just doesn’t make sense, not to me anyway.

I thought this was discussed before? Is Ascended gear not to bridge the gap between the exotic and the upcoming legendary armors?

One of ANets lead devs did state something similar, but the problem is the statement is complete garbage. Bridge the gap? It extends the gap ten fold. So how is it bridging the gap? Have you seen the required mats for ascended gear? For a game marketed as grind free, I’d hate to see what they consider a grind.

It was to bridge the gap between acquisition of legendary vs exotic. I just hit 80 this morning on my ele, and already have a full suit of exotic armor, a couple weapons, and almost all lvl 80 jewels. And I haven’t even shopped the T.P. yet. :p

Legendary weapons are a huge endeavor, not everyone wants to grind it out, especially since it’s so $$ driven.

Ascended gear gives something to work toward if you want that’s non-trivial but not legendary in effort. The point is it’s time, not stats, per se

Illogical weapons pricing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If you are talking about the TP…prices are subject to as much as the market will bear and still give the consignee a sale. Sorry you think the prices are high…but you aren’t the one gathering, buying and making the weapons. Not to mention leveling the crafter. You aren’t, technically, paying for a Greatsword…you are paying for a service.

If you aren’t talking about the TP, why are you wasting coin buying the trash from npc vendors?

The pricing that’s under control of the game designers is what’s relevant.

This includes vendor weapons which really aren’t trash, not sure why you’d say that. I can see that not all of ’em have the stats you might prefer, but they work great.

The contentious pricing issue is that, for example, an ascalonian greatsword is 390 tokens, whereas an ascalonian scepter is 300 tokens. Similar for other options, invaders. And the reqs for crafting aren’t scaled for 2h over 1h (the diff is 1 ori bar or ancient plank for a part)

BLTP prices are whatever the market collectively decides.
