philosophy on raids?

mulch.2586

TBH GW2 is lack some big dynamic type PVE content. I would like to see some sort of raid type thing in game. Dont have to be dungeon type raid. Just something you can do as a guild working in a group.

I dont even mention wow clone. Not interested. Raids are good for teamwork and guild work.

I feel like all the people in this thread have never done one of the metaevent chains in Orr. These things REQUIRE 20+ people to get done, have multiple stages, and massive endbosses.

Stop complaining b/c it’s not in an instance and there aren’t lockout timers. If you want to raid go to a game built around raiding. If you want to find raid-like elements in this game, they’re THERE!

I have done Orr temples. To me a major difference is the scope and simplicity. If you want to beat them easy, they’re zergable (cept Balthazar, which I’ve only won because it bugged but seems not exactly zergable). Just like with Tequatl and the other dragons, if you have enough people, it’s too easy to be fun because they don’t scale.

Player Names and Titles

mulch.2586

But… none of the titles show, not just yours but anyone else either, unless you target them. I think they’re meant to be something minor, not of sufficient importance to put on the screen.

Heaven’s knows, they have enough trouble with culling and whatnot just getting the basic stuff….

I agree should make a suggestion, but based on what the devs have done so far, I’d not hold my breath.

I’d like content tuned to 10-man groups, or possibly even bigger groups, if it gave the same rewards as 5-man. But I’d only like it with an appropriate interface, showing health/boon/conditions of the team.

Disparity between Profession traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mulch.2586

For a profession that has a massive health pool and is known for big aoe farming, I actually think Vamp Precision is a good trait (concerns about stats/gear aside).

Seriously, it’s more functional than a single target damage-only 45s-cooldown trait.

Definitely better examples listed…

With this, I think the first priority really needs to be getting the traits to actually work as they’re advertised as working, before getting too concerned about which options are OP/UP.

We have so many options, you should be able to choose something that suits you with a little bit of thought. ANet will be able to see which ones aren’t good because no one selects them, and adjust accordingly. I’d wager their stats show Vamp Pre is fairly popular.

Even a small fee will suffice to discourage many from chasing wvw prowess.

Legendary Grind (500 badges of honor)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mulch.2586

I think they did well to give pvp-phobes a way to get their badges without having to fight other players.

Note that badges are account-bound, not soul-bound, so you can run characters to map-complete the wvw maps and do the jumping puzzle all to serve the character working on its legendary.

I think it’s fine. It’s one of the few non-eBayable parts of the legendary process and has its place in the game. It’s unfortunate that wvw isn’t better, but it is enjoyable with the right crowd.

Opinion about Fotm vs normal dungeons.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mulch.2586

mulch.2586

I think there’s some interesting encounters in the explore modes. Not all of them, but ya know that’s true for fotm, too. There’s definitely a tendency by the dungeon/fractal design team to put way more health on a boss than is needed to make it a challenge. If you’ve proven you can handle the fight, making it last longer doesn’t make it more fun, only proves you have endurance to press the same buttons. If my elite skill comes up 3 times on the same fight…

But the Dredge fractal, after the last boss my fingers are cramped from so much running, yet I’ve never seen it wipe. So what I’m sayin is, I think there’s a theme of making fights last longer than they need to across all of the content. Not that GW2 is the first game to do it.

Why no story behind those legendary.

Call me weird. But Caithe is my personal choice. She’s a plant, I know. But…..

See, I keep thinking Carys…. Not my usual type (personality or plant) but she does have this adorable Ditzy blonde kind of thing going.

I’m not saying her personality. Irl, I’m into more…alternative…girls (I’m a guy, btw), I’m not much a fan of the ‘barbie doll’ that most guys seem to droll over. It’s why, although I always play female characters, I only ever have had one ‘human’ female (a Frost DK in WoW). I usually go towards shorter races, because their personalities have more substance than their looks. And there is something sexy, in an odd way, when you think how smart a female gnome, goblin or asura is.

Caithe just stands out. I’m talking more the pre-Sylvari-revamp Caithe. When she looked more elven than plant-ish.

Course, personality, gotta go with Zojja. Any girl who names a golem ‘Mr. Sparkles’ not only is smart as hell, but has the sense of humor I like.

I like Caithe quite a lot, too, altho she plays for the other team. Actually I don’t know, maybe she’s a switch hitter.

There’s no reasons they’d necessarily have to charge gems/$$ for it, except that they’re a company that’s s’posed to make money.

I don’t think it matters what wow did or didn’t do. It makes sense because we can get sex-change from the gem store, which is weird with no name change.

In this game, since everything is account-based, rather than character based, there’s no reason not to offer name changes, as anyone could still send you mail, friend-list, etc.

mulch.2586

Gear in GW2 doesn’t matter nearly as much as in most MMOs. But, if they do it at all like other games, with a bump in the level cap, you’ll get new gear.

If they bump it to 90, I’d expect the gear difference to be about the same as the lvl 70-80 gap. I imagine they’d give new sets to the dungeon, badge, and karma vendors. I think it’d be nice if they’d again do a slow rollout of ascended gear at the new level cap.

All of this presupposes that they can get the game running to a point that it’ll have longevity and player-base to merit an expansion.

No and No. Fix and balance current classes then make new bug bags.

Oh yes, quite, indeed. They’ve far more essential things than reworking the game.

I just think they missed an opportunity. Our characters have so little connction with the world or culture. Male/female, same race/long standing hostile race, everyone is boy-scout good, even the thief and necromancer… Feels rather shallow.

I could envision a game where only Asura were golemancers, only Charr were engineers, only humans were dervish, only Norn were shamans… Perhaps in that game the stats for the races wouldn’t be the same, different run speeds, and things like that. I played a different NCSoft game that was structured that way, very different from GW2, a pvp-based game… Well, even Warhammer was built with distinctive races.

What is the point of glass cannon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mulch.2586

mulch.2586

I havent seen a single comment from the anti GC crowd that has any real proof that the GC specs are bad. Every comment in here falls back on the subject of bad players.

There’s no consistent sense of what GC amounts to. The one person who specified above was not actually running a glass cannon (able to take double the hits of a true GC, with a bunch of healing).

In terms of proof, it really depends on how they’re actually doing it. IF GC means no helpful boons, control, or conditions, then it’s not hard to show that GC is hurting the group’s performance. But it seems like a lot of people thinking they’re GC still have “Grants Might to nearby allies on crit” and use weapon sets with cripples, blinds, etc. Which to me means they’re not the “selfish” version of GC.

Actually GC has a very clear meaning, the same meaning it has had for years. It has nothing to do with avaiable support spells or not.

GC = A class dedicated to dealing optimal damage while being fragile in return.

This doesnt imply they cant use support utilities etc. Even if they do they are still GCs. GC doesnt mean selfish, thats something someone has made up. GC refers to the structural design of a spec. High dps instead of high staying power.

The game also gives the GC more room, since dodge is something even a GC can have plenty of thus avoiding damage, actually a GC usually has more dodge options than a “tank” due to high crit, traits that proc vigor and passive regen from dps trait lines.

Weapons, armor, spec and trinkets should define if you are a GC or not, not utility skills, since they are just that, utility skills and most arent centered around raw damage or raw defense, most are group centered.

So aslong as a GC player uses his dodge he isnt a liability to his group. If he doesnt hes just as much a liability as the tank not dodging and trying to face tank the enemy. This isnt a trinity game so trinity rules does not apply.

No spec is weak, only some players are.

I don’t disagree. Just that the only actual GC build I read posted in this thread had +200 toughness and +200 healing on a warrior. Note that an entire exotic armor set is 763 stat points. So the only claimed GC build posted here can take at least 3 times as many hits as a true GC ele, for example. Over 20k health, over 1400 defense… this is not a GC, but is being considered as one.

If Two People Stack Bleeding...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mulch.2586

mulch.2586

In cases where you go over 25 stacks of bleed or the other conditions that stack (confusion, vulnerability, weakness?) if you’re hitting the cap, the fight is going to be a win, regardless. So don’t fret about it, just ride on the coattails of the other people.

Or, make a build/carry a weapon that doesn’t depend on bleeds.

It’s even worse for burn and poison people, cuz those you only get one stack of. All you can do is make it last longer. Most boss fights, it seems the corpse would burn in a poisonous cloud for an hour after death… :p

Things that require a group/team

mulch.2586

Almost all of the game is solo-able.

One of the best ways to ensure that people are available to group up for group activities is to make sure they can not be soloed. Cuz anything that can be solo will soon have solo as its default.

More help in grouping. A party interface that actually works. Being able to rejoin after the game crashes on you. Finish guild functionality. etcetera

There’s lots they could do to help. But a player should recognize that most of us playing this content are doing these activities without having troubles finding a group. We start with our friends list, then ask in guild. By then we’re usually full. In worst case scenario, we ask in map for someone to join.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

mulch.2586

The decision to limit pvp to capture-point style only makes sense if they’re attaining esport status. But the game’s still not ready for serious play and probably has irrevocably lost whatever esport interest it used to have.

The maps aren’t all exactly the same, but might as well be. We only use 3 of them for tournaments, anyway. Adding in ToSS just for hot-join did nothing to help pvp, what a waste of resources. The spvp team at ArenaNet seems confused and disjointed about its goals.

Is pvp supposed to be for people who actively engage other parts of GW2? If so, why isn’t there any connection?
Is it an esport? If so, get with it — it’s still not ready for launch.

Holiday pvp — what’s the point? If it’s meant to pull people into spvp, why aren’t these connected — get glory and skins for spvp, have snowball and day of the dead tournaments, something… Putting this content out (ToSS, MadKing, Wintersday) shows me they’ve already given up on spvp in anything more than a diversion.

It was especially bad to be not-ready at launch for pvp because there was no time cushion of people leveling to 80.

It’s still not at all ready for esport, and most everyone went back to LoL, SC2, etc a while ago.

I recently did a google for spvp stuff. Most of it was pre-launch. Nothing on the first 3 pages was newer than mid-October. Gamebreaker gave up on their show, so many who were posting builds and videos gave up… Just a few stalwarts remain.

It’s a shame. Maybe someday there’ll be good esport in mmo-style game. I still feel like no developer has given it a chance to succeed yet.

An active WvW server doesn’t mean it’s not also active PvE (altho I question if any server has active open-world zones). Only 1.6% of average server capacity can be on WvW at a time, regardless. So even a server with 4 full wvw queues has room for an active pve community.

At the game developer’s workshop, it was revealed that ArenaNet collects a lot of data, and gets statistics on players’ experience. An example given was a graph of average frame-rates across a zone map. If they care to, they can certainly get stats on drop rates, time to D.R., and other metrics. I don’t expect them to share the results with us. But I really doubt data collection on your own would benefit the cause.
