That was so annoying. We spent about an hour or so trying to retake RoF bay, broke through inner, rounded the corner to lord room and then WvW gets updated and kicks us out. We return to increased ros numbers and repaired gates. Sad panda =(
From what I’ve heard from a guildy, we (RoF) were also saved by updates a few times. Nice mathcup btw, would’ve expected higher RoS dominance to be honest.

Maybe it doesn’t drop aggro, but you can go into stealth when you’re really low on HP and become visible on full health (or close to it), don’t even deny that. I didn’t do that on my thief, but I sure as hell witnessed it more than once.

Well I had a look at the video which shows a zerg own other zergs. Of course they are organized, but it also comes down to people doing what they are told. Yes that is sort of being organized. Yeah being a commander of a 60 man zerg is maybe different. What I would’ve expected after the buildup was a 60 man zerg splitting into 3 20 man zergs, and while the other zerg goes in for the kill on 1 part, the other 2 shreds them from behind. That would have been amazing. Still not enough for me to consider moving to the higher tiers though. I’m a cheap b*stard and my pc can’t handle 30vs30vs30 SM lord room battles either. You say running in organized groups (prolly not a zerg if half of what you are saying is true btw) is testing yourself… well I don’t look into that kind of competition in my freetime playing a game. 5v5, 10v10, 20v20 is enough for me, and I also have the chance to have an impact, other than being Healing spring dude #5. You think 60vs60 is as epic as it gets, I beg to defer. A guild zerg appeard under Ruins of Surmia, that had roughly 50-60 players in it. I didn’t do the counting but based on reports it consisted of 50% guardians, 25% necros, 25% eles. Sounds like something people would do in t1-3 to me, sounds organized. But fun? Hell no. I like the chaos that a lower tier can offer. I’ll stay thank you.

On a more serious note, I’d like every thief to realize and/or admit how annoyingly, ridiculously overpowered stealth is in wvw. There is no counter for it, you cannot block it, you cannot interrupt it, you cannot destealth a thief. In return the games balances that by giving stealth buffs, and traits to make it even stronger?! Are you kidding me? There is no drawback for using stealth. I did take my lvl50 thief into wvw and know its a dangereous game to play a glassy thief. I know that thieves get stealth to make up for being so squishy. But I also think that stealth should be a tool to set up an ambush and deal high damge, and a tool to get out of a fight. Noone should be allowed to be in stealth during a fight, while also being able to attack and stay stealthed. And noone should be able to deny you badges of honor (while not the most important thing in wvwm it is a pretty big part of it) by using stealth with it being available in abundance. I’m glad to see some thieves offer tips to those that are not mindlessly yelling “NERF”, “OP” or a combination of those btw.

To be honest for a condi/BM build your condition damage is a bit low I think. You’d need around 1200 to get 100+ bleed stacks. Going for power, condition damage, and beast mastery with rabid gear sounds… I don’t know. It seems like you want the best of everything, and I don’t think that works. You could try a mix of rabid and carrion maybe if you’re more interested in power than crit chance although tougness is better then vitality me thinks. Increased condition damage from pets will raise their 43ish bleeds to 60ish bleeds. Not that big of an increase I think, might as well change expertise training for wilderness knowledge and try to squeeze QZ in your utilities. This will also help your pet hit more, give you a stun break, and a damage increase/applying bleed quicker with SB. I’d also change beastmaster’s bond for keen edges, or malicious training.

No. Just no. This game does not need Tim Taylor balancing, pets don’t need more stats. Adding more power to pets will break the ranger class, and it will be nerfed into the ground again. Rangers can already have a really tough pet, who hits hard – if it hits. In the meantime they themselves can be tanky.

It is, essentially, another WvW map. You can still fight each other, it will behave exactly like the JP used to, except you will be removed from EB so someone who wants to come in to fight for objectives will not be kept from playing by someone running the JP.
If I may ask, what was the purpose of continuing to allow people to fight in the JP?
I gave up on completing the puzzle a LOOONG time ago because I got tired of dealing with the fighting over it. All the times I’ve completed it, I’ve just been ported up.

Agreed, there’s 40 jump puzzles for people who don’t want to fight in jump puzzles and 4 for those who do.
I have the feeling the only reason people want to fight in the EB JP in the first place is because there are people in there who just want to do the jumping puzzle. I’m not sure what effect this change will have. Guys who want to do gvg in there can do that, its an interesting map for that purpose I guess. You could agree on some objectives to reach in there. Having said that the rewards should be removed from the EB JP, let pvp folks have their fun in there. But if you guys get what you wish for the miracle will fade away in a few months, and it will be empty and forgotten.

Is that really an average thief, and an average ranger? To me it seems like a good ranger against a bad thief. Maybe its just wishful thinking because I would think that between equally skilled players a thief has a better chance of winning unless they are both highly skilled. In that case a ranger might win with the right build. What I’m certain of is that this is not the kind of thief I run into in wvw…

Play any class, if youre a zerger, every class has survivability.
Dont even need to learn the class, just know where the number 1 button is and the “F” button to res downed players.

Runes of undead are pretty cheap (even the superior ones), and will give you some more toughness, but as your build is not a condi build, probably not the best for you. Get some major sigils of air, pretty cheap, and with the cirt chance you got, 20% chance to do lightning on crit is not bad.

Yes, I did some solo caping on my ranger with traps on Saturday, great fun untill you run into 2 palyers or more who know their class well.

To be fair, devs have said repeatedly that they want players to be identifiable when you see them on the field. That’s one of the main reasons why you can’t wear armor appearances outside of your class of armor.
I don’t get this. When I want to know what class someone is, I will tell by the buffs they have, or the skills they use. When you see a big group of players, you will first see them in the stand-in manakin model until they get loaded anyway. The choice of wearing different class armor than yours is purely cosmetic, it has nothing to do with wvw. It would also increase transmutation stone sales…

I believe you missed the part where ANY SIEGE standing inside a defending AC range is unusable,unlikely to get built at all or survive more than 5 seconds to deal any damage.

Besides that there are a number of places i’ve found where u can build an AC, hit in front of a gate and be absoluty safe from anything that might even come close to hitting it.

They can build 3 ACs and clear the wall of siege, that’s what they can do. Everyone is concerned about attackers. Well here’s something to think about. A group outside of a keep can spread out. Defenders on the wall, not so much. Wait till zergs find out they can build ACs as well for attacking.

Well it looks squishy. But since its sPvP you can go and try it withouth spending anything. If you look for burst Rampager amulet might not be the best choice, try Knight instead. Condition damage seems a wast, and you’ll need more hp with toughness below 1k. I’d also swap axe/warhorn as it has 0 defensive skills, I’d take greatsword, has nice defense/utility, and still deals decent amount of damage. You won’t need the warhorn to increase your crit chance further me thinks. Companion’s might is a big let down for me, only gives 1 sec of might so it won’t stack much. You also seem to have no condition removal options, which will make you even more squishy. Superior sigil of energy sounds good, I’d use 2 of those actually, although devs mentioned in an iterview that they are looking to nerf sigil of battle, and energy.

I hope you’re joking because spirits are still garbage, BM viability didn’t change, neither did trapper or bunker, and signets was always viable but the buff is welcome.
I think that having 10 seconds of protection uptime on a 13-15 sec cooldown on pets is viable (or do I suck at reading tooltips and traits). You think BM is not viable in itself? That is not the impression I had. With the new buffs, you will need to concentrate on cats now. I have 20 in BM and sent my Lynx after 3 guys in WvW yesterday and got a bag, and had a good 1-2 minute laugh. We can argue about skill of those players all they, but it probably shows that BM is viable, and pets are not useless.

Wow look at all this whining. Robert Hrouda said this patch will be a step in the right direction. And personally I think that’s what happened with signets and pets, and reduced shout cooldown. If you think pets should still hit moving targets, and take less aoe damage you need to wake up. If pets with their curent hp/toughness would reliably hit moving targets everyone would roll BM and they would be pretty much undestroyable. Pets would become unkillable homing missiles that hit like a truck while you pretty much outheal everything and are unkillable. That is what a good d/d ele was like before, or a good shatter mesmer, or a good thief. I don’t want that to happen to rangers. We (pets included) are not perfect, but I think its a good first step. Now they need to sort out the mess that is our traits and we should be good. The 2 next changes I would love to see is longbow autoattack getting a buff of some sorts (cripple proc/speed buff/damage buff) and lighnint reflexes removing chilled, crippled and immobilized.

If you just want to run around and stay alive, yeah pvt is good for that. But I don’t think you’ll kill a lot with that should you come across small roaming groups. I’d go with carrion/rabid and a condi build. You can also try the roaming regen ranger build, seems pretty solid.

Interesting…The only siege that was “deadly” before this was the ballista if you got hit point blank by a spread shot since that would deal enough damage to down any player but that has obvious challenges that the new AC doesn’t.
I didn’t say they are ok, I said that before they weren’t an issue if you only got targeted by 1, and that they should be deadly. Having said that 1 AC still won’t cause as much problem against a zerg, but at least more of them will be useful. At least I expect them to be.

Sup carts can now hit for over 1000 damage (was taking around 2k a hit) and that is just one. Overlap a couple of carts and nothing will survive in it.
Deterring attackers is one thing, but these new carts create instagib death zones.

Well you’d need a group (i.w. 5) rangers to remove conditions that cause problems, like when necro pressures you its not 1 condition, and as far as I know shouts remove just 1 condition when used. But you could remove a good amount of conditions with emphatic bond, signet of renewal and a shout every 13-15 seconds. But you’d sacrifice lot for that and its not on demand. In team setup maybe it would be useful, on its own… I don’t think so.

Even after the nerf, confusion from glamour traited mesmers is still top dog for condition damage… I dont feel bad for mesmers at all, they don’t have to respec they just have to get use to being mortal like the rest of us.
This makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Except they will most probably kick my kitten… but whatever. As for PI it was preeeeettty strong for a 1 skill point utility. So yeah, there you go.

Heres my issue with with pets in WvW. Arrow Carts. Try being productive in taking a keep/tower now with the damage and distance of arrow carts. The distance exceeds even a traited LB ranger. Pet dies immediately. I use to be able to send my pet into a zerg and get a couple hits on a piece of siege/player at least before dying. Not anymore.

Gee, what an intelligent response, idiot. So genious tell me how rangers, who are forced to keep pets out, going to keep a pet alive if for example trying to take a tower with the new arrow carts. Again with the new distance buff on AC, it now pushes a traited LB ranger out of range. Your pet usually stops a distance in front of you, so its not like you can place your pet behind you. So be more constructive instead of the pathetic L2P response.
Pets have 22k hp now, I think all of them have so much or more even. 1 arrow cart shouldn’t be able to destroy your pets more than yourself.
Even the tankiest guardian gets turned to chum in an AC choke point.
Which should be the case btw.

If you’re lazy to do the math on this (like I am) you can have a look at this. Pretty self explanatory. 1200 condition damage will get you 100 tick bleeds and 200 tick poison as well as 628 burning. It also is useful for condi builds to get on siege. 1500 for most stats (apart from heal I guess) is pretty nice and gives a well rounded ranger. 1500 condition damage is a lot of you use some condition weapons like axe/dagger/torch/shortbow.

Nice vid, glad to see you having fun. But there are those days when you come across a good d/d ele, or thief, or mesmer, or any combination of those, and that is no fun. And that is frustrating because the no fun part in that is mostly not down to your skills/build. Lets hope tomorrow’s patch gives us a fresh breath of air, and more rangers will have fun.

Here’s my Charr. The build is 0/30/20/0/20 all exotics except crappy back piece. I like to switch around utilities and traits. This is what I ran last night to harass people on sieges on walls. I tend to swap SoH for Poison trap once I’m in range, and use entangle too. But charrzooka aoe is really nice with condition damage, IF you hit anything with it that is.

Spike trap, muddy terrain (not a trap really), and frost trap are great for slowing down the enemy. You won’t need to invest into condition damage either if you want to use them for kiting. If you’re crit heavy you could get the trap grandmaster trait which increases the condition duration as well. But you should get some defensive utility as well. Lightning reflexes is great unless you’re immobilized.

Thanks for the links, the best ones would be Fire God’s Vambraces, also my char’s ink is bright red. Sadly I don’t have GW1. Buying it for this skin would be… well I don’t know… Hopefuly Anet will consider making transmutors that allow for different type of armor skins to be transmuted i.e. using leather/cloth on a guardian.

I recently started a norn female guardian. She has awesome ink on her hands/forearm. I was thinking about adding a low level cloth glove skin when she hits 80, but it seems that is not an option. I was hoping I could get a cloth skin on her gloves but as fare as I know (I tried) you cannot have cloth skin on chain gear. Anyone can suggest a chain glove that reveals as much of her tattoo as possible? Any help would be much appreciated.

Greatsword just don’t fits the image I have of a ranger, which is a hunter, beast tamer. Sword – yes, axe – yes, torch – yes, dagger – yes, greatsword – no. But like people said, melee ranger gets appealing when it starts working, as opposed to running after people for a good minute waiting for them to die of bleeding when using a bow. At least with a melee ranger you have something to do while you wait for your opponent to drop dead or make a run for it.

I had fun leveling my ranger, but doing wvw or dungeons will be a bit tedious if you’re alone or with pugs. For leveling you can go with longbow and greatsword I guess, at least for the early levels for sure. Later you’ll see how awesome shortbow is, and maybe try out sword+dagger/torch/warhorn. Use some tanky pets (bears, devourers, canines) until you feel confortable with them, and you can use felines/birds once you get the hang of ranger to get more damage.
