Compared to the other MMO that shall not be named, GW2’s Halloween event is better and more engaging! I personally like the scavenger hunt, and I would love ANet to do something like this after this event.
I am going to fall out of my desk chair and die laughing the first time I see a stampede of 30+ players chasing a Skritt with a sack tossed over his shoulder across a field, followed by everything they aggro-ed in pursuit.
Hopefully I’ll be able to Fraps it, set Black Betty as the background music, and have youtube gold.
Imagine. You’re minding your own business, harvesting a node. Suddenly a skritt passes you by, unaware that it had treasure on its back. Then you see this mob. A giant mob with other mobs behind it. And its chaining a massive army or skale, drake, harpies, centaurs, Inquest, pirates, Zhaitan, Thrall, Hello Kitty. You can’t move. You’re like a deer caught in headlights. The next thing you know is respawning to the furthest waypoint, further than Orr. You ask a nearby NPC where you are. They respond, “In Alderaan my son. Where’s your lightsaber by the way?”
Alongside BLTC, there’s another company that does auctions strictly (White Moa Auction House?). No buyouts or anything, just pure bids on items and bulk items. I think with an auction house, you can try to get items for cheap, depending on how the bids go out. And if you get it for cheap, you can either sell it back through BLTC. Also, this would help out special items like exotics, rares and legendaries that don’t have a lot of volume on them.
Thoughts? Or would this new auction house destroy Tyria’s economy?
PS: What they can do is not charge a listing fee upfront so it encourages people to post rares, exotics, etc. They do get charged for the tax and fees on the back-end once it sells.

How about Red Dead Redemption style treasure hunting?
Here’s my thought/idea on this:
Some mobs will drop pieces of the map, let’s say three or five. Once you complete it, you combine them to form a treasure map. When you double click the treasure map, it will open up a sketch, something like RDR’s map.
So when you solve the treasure map’s puzzle, you get to loot amazing stuff plus a piece of the next map to keep you going.
The solution for character scaling on Asuras are high-chairs, complete with food tray and bibs.
LOL. I admit that it irks me that we can’t sit on chairs. Hopefully it gets implemented in the future. But hey, at least we can RP based on our Armor and dyes.
A friend told me about it, and it sounded promising. No sub. Equal PvP. And the clincher for me was “NO GEAR GRIND!” And I expected that this game was nothing like WoW or SWToR.
I compared this game to my all time favorite which is Fallout 3 (weird right, I should have said Skyrim but I haven’t played that yet). With the open world, with the things just happening out of nowhere, this was my new MMO world.
BTW, Asuran ears are so cute. When I rolled one for the first time, I loved how the ears would flip up like a cat’s when they unsheathe their weapons.
It’s a good idea to have Armorers, Leatherworkers and Tailors to craft Towns Clothes. The towns clothes should be crafted using a mix of low-tier and high-tier mats, just to consume the surplus/abundance of low-tier mats.
Or if ANet wants to control the towns clothes market so they can have income, they could sell a component mat for it in the gem shop.
I’m liking this idea. I would like to have a Tuxedo. A real Tuxedo with a toy pistol. Shaken. Not stirred. /queueAdele LET THE SKY FALL!!!
But before that, I wish they would let us sit on seats so I can do some RP.
I actually envy those who QQ’ed…
I can’t get enough of this game. I think the main addiction for me is finding the right build and the most efficient build and playing around with my build. I throw my money everyday to the respec trainer just to mess around with my build. I’m currently tweaking my thief… so don’t get me started with another toon.
A modest suggestion. This keybind was part of SWToR and was a godsend when I used to play it. It would be great if ANet implemented this as an option for targeting.
Never is such a strong word. But GW2 does have esports potential. Spell animations can be limited or simplified. But since the match ups will be 5v5, spell animations will not be that overwhelming.
It’s true that imbalance will cripple the game, but with dedicated teams of ANet on the esports side, the future of GW2 is safe. Maybe.
There are clutch moments on the capture point maps. In my opinion, the current maps would be watchable and easy to understand from a spectator’s POV. Team play would be interesting to watch depending on their skill and teamwork.
Yet again. I speculate. But I’m excited.
@ Crazy
With some tweaking, spell animations could be limited to make it watchable and not be overwhelming. But with 5v5, I don’t think it would be a big problem since you don’t have 10 or 20 players beating down on one location.
And it would be accessible enough because of the skill animations. For the uninitiated, a warrior twirling around with axe in hand is obviously not a good thing for anyone around him. But the caster’s job is to get into details and specifics.
GW2 sPvP needs to get GW2 back onto the front page of Twitch. Twitch is basically the de facto benchmark for popular E-Sport games. If you’re not the front page, you’re not relevant. It’s also a great way to get publicity for the game and get ArenaNet more sales. F2P sPvP would probably help increase Twitch viewers and streamers.
Sure, paid games like SC2 have an easy time maintaining front page status because — face it — it’s Starcraft and the game has a legacy. GW2 however is still largely unknown.
I agree. The problem with the current streamers is their credentials (ladder rank/grade). Also, the lack of spectator mode limits the kind of streams available.
But, GW2 is still 2 months old. Who knows when they’ll go full eSports mode. And I don’t think they’re not running out of time. Those who had stopped playing will eventually come back if they want to play competitively. But it would be great if a large player base, coming from F2P-PvP, would come to make it even more competitive.
In Queensdale, there’s a cave that has a sign that warns adventurers to stay away. So I enter the cave, and there’s nothing but harmless grubs that won’t attack you unless you attack them. But in the middle of the cave was this idol that you can pick up. So I did and wouldn’t you know it there’s a gigantic troll running towards me.
So I run out of that cave still carrying this totem. I threw it at the troll, hoping it would leave me alone. Nope. It was hellbent on catching me and calling me dinner. But out in the open were other adventurers. They came in and helped me subdue this fiend. But we fought the troll near a farm, and this farm was suddenly under assault by bandits.
So we all fought, fought our hardest and mightiest. Around us were bandits and in front of us was a livid troll. We eventually killed them off and was victorious.
Most memorable moment. Ever.
In my opinion, if they open sPvP as F2P, they’ll cast a huge net for apprehensive gamers and competitive players. Who knows how much they’ll get with this model? And think of the possibility of the F2P players purchasing the game for PvE and WvW.
From what I remember and had read, the SC1 scene started when South Korea was in the slumps. SC1 was released around that time and was a cheap entertainment. Eventually the competitive scene was built from there since everyone was playing it and everyone knew the mechanics of the game.
I had followed SC2 earlier this year and the year before that, and its crowd was bigger than LoL. Nowadays, LoL has overtaken and the audience is larger compared to SC2 (caveat — my opinion/observation). Why is that? The barrier to entry is free or cheap compared to SC2.
It would be interesting what ANet will do from here on out regarding their road to eSports. I haven’t watched an SC2 stream for a while, and the current state of HotS is disheartening. I scoffed at LoL since it didn’t make sense to me on my first time viewing… and it was cutting in on my SC2 barcraft.
Once again, this is pure speculation.
Yes. Limit it to sPvP. PvE and WvW would require purchase of the game. If they don’t want that, they can only have 1 or 2 char slot and would require purchase for additional slots.
Regarding players who bought it for PvP, I’m not sure how they could assuage them — if they get kitten’d off. I bought the game because I also wanted to PvP after hitting 80. Currently, I’m just wandering around the world and making alts left and right. But I would like to see where the eSports, or competitive play, is headed for this game.
It would be a boon for current PvP players too since game servers will be packed and long. And hey, once the custom arenas are implemented, a PvP community may potentially grow from there — from dueling, scrimming, trash-talking.

I’d like to start a dialog regarding the esports potential of GW2.
I haven’t played LOL, but from what I read, Lol is free to play with a cash shop available to soup up your character. This model gives easy access to gamers who wants to get in on the competitive scene or play the game for entertainment.
When you port to the Heart of the Mists, it really feels that ANet may have a plan to open the heart for F2P. If that’s the case, it would help GW2 get to the right path as an esports title.
I’m just speculating, and I’m aware that GW2 has a long way to go since there’s no ranking system in place yet. Thoughts?
EDIT as of 21:47 10/17/2012:
So here’s an idea, a hypothetical, of what F2P offers:
- Full PvP Access
- Gem Shop Access
- No PvE Access
- No WvW Access
- No BLTC Access

When I used to play Starcraft 2, the official forums was total garbage. Everyone was QQing, raging and trolling. But thank goodness for Team Liquid’s forum. If you think the mods here are heavy handed, check out the mods in TL.net.
I actually like how the mods handle this forum. In my experience, I try to stay away from the official forums because of all the QQ and whine-threads. If you want to check other forums, you can go to guildwars2guru.com or reddit.com/r/Guildwars2
@Major
I understand. Somehow I don’t have a complaint yet so I’m not fazed or irked by it. At least Colin shows that he has a sense of humor. Sorry if I went Chris Crocker on your kitten… LEAVE ANET ALONE! ;-)
@Alex
@ MajorMelchett
It’s a kitten Saturday! He’s probably enjoying his weekend you know?
I was in Blazeridge leveling up and just exploring. I was in the southern part of the map. Then I heard a dragon’s screech. I turn towards north and saw the dragon pass through the purple sky. Floored by what just happened. It was an amazing experience just seeing it. I was too late when I ported nearby the event…
From Galaxy Quest: “By Grabthar’s hammer, what a savings…”
From random vendor norn: “By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!”
Sylvari gardening minigame sounds fun, not.
Grow your own boyfriend/girlfriend.
Jellyfish is actually tasty… the edible ones I mean. Slather some garlic sauce on it and some salt and pepper, and BAM! your stomach would want to marry you.
I’m actually interested in this Polymock thing. But what I’m really excited about is the implementation of more mini-games in the major cities. Asuras would get Polymock. Humans would get the carnival and pub games. Unfortunately, I have no idea what Charr and Sylvari cities would get…
Would you compare the attainment of a legendary weapon to attaining the “Insane in the Membrane” achievement in WoW?
I haven’t gotten that achievement personally, but I wanted to, but it was literally insane. Like truly insane. So I want to know how attaining a legendary weapon compares to an “Insane” title.
If this was my first MMO, I would be addicted to it, same way as I was with Ragnarok and World of Warcraft. I stopped playing RO since I had to move from Asia to the US, and I stopped playing WoW since I was tired of the gear treadmill.
I’m more of an explorer and an RP’er. GW2 fulfills those. And if I’m PvP hungry, I can just log in for some sPvP or some WvWvW.

It would be great (probably ideal) if they could also integrate the drops to meta event bosses. That way there are three avenues to vie for a precursor: Mystic Forge, Explorable Dungeons and Meta Bosses.
+1
I’d like an alternative to the MF, but i think there already is. I’ve heard talk about someone finding precursor in big reward chests in the Temples of orr Events, aswell as those of the 3 big dragon events.
I’m not sure how much of this is true though.
Man, we have to find those claims so we can at least assuage everyone crying about precursors. But the dearth of info from Anet makes it like a hunt… once someone discovers it, the mystery is unveiled.
I agree that random drops should be included in the options of how to get a precursor. If there was only one path on attaining this, it would really turn off some people who don’t enjoy slot machines.
Thanks for the tips! I have been salvaging my rares, so I’m deeply losing out on cash on that end. But I sell all of the exotics that I can’t use.
I see legendaries as a long-term goal. I log in everyday just to chip away at the huge block of requirements.
Thanks for the feedback all! I’m about to venture in the realm of dungeons.
Just wanted to know what the benchmark is for a balanced build rather than a glass cannon build. So how many points should be invested on vitality/toughness to avoid a glass cannon build?
I’m throwing money at the screen, but it’s not giving me any whips. What gives?
This feature is great in PvP, so I’m not sure why this wasn’t implemented in PvE. This would be beneficial specially for Dungeoneers.
ANet, please include this in PvE! I would like to know what ability knocked me down to a downed state.
Thieves with a D/D and S/D set up aren’t screwed. Ranged DPS (relative to my thief) is low compared to my melee weapons. Also, one thing that I don’t like about using ranged weapons is that I have to kite around, which might grab aggro to a nearby unfriendly.
I don’t think forcing everyone to have one of each is a good idea. Everyone has their own play style, and they should have the freedom to mix and match.
I have a level 80, and I still love this game. Also I’m not playing this game to a point of indigestion.
When I play GW2… I’m reminded by this video from Alan Watts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERbvKrH-GC4
This is my story… well pre-made story, but that’s okay since that’s really not the full story.
Anyway, I think ANet should look into integrating SFM or something similar for GW2. Players who’s really into their character can make their own movie or comic, chronicling their endeavors post-Zhaitan.
Anyone agree?
Professor Gorr! Encountered him on two occasions in my story. My favorite quote from his was, “Well drop my gears and bite my ascertenium(sp?) chrondite!”
It may very well be FIFO now based on this response back in September 14th https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Last-in-First-out-Please-tell-me-the-TP/104484
I was playing with my little cousin. He asked me to help him out on Code Lyoko on the Wii. There was a dodge/block mechanic to it, so I was dodging left and right and blocking projectiles like a baawwwsss. He then said, “Wow, you’re already a pro!”
“Guildwars baby,” I told myself, “Guildwars.”
That is a tonic you can purchase in Straits of Devastation. After you escort an adult Quaggan back to the surface, he’ll sell you the tonics. The location is south of Squall Cusps near a cave.
What’s xfire? Is it like steam?
Yeah, the bugged DEs are annoying, and hopefully they would get fixed.
Funny thing though (I wikittenook a screenshot), there was a bugged DE in Queensdale where the crops in a farm were burning. And up a hill was an NPC sitting down and looking towards the burning farm. I sat down and switched to my towns clothes. We both watched it burn… burn.
I think they should implement a guild upgrade that would reduce the tax in Trading Post. I could see it now, a group of trader alts hanging out in a bar after a day’s trading — dem wit’ dey business suits an’ clean cut hair.
I log in because I’m having fun, I am so utterly sick of wow and blizzard’s direction I doubt I will ever buy another Blizzard game(still ticked off about the D3 fiasco), no I’m not 80 but I have at least 3 characters I want to get to 80.
And again to stress the point because I have FUN playing the game
I still love Blizzard, but WoW has really tanked for me and D3 was tttooooooo short… I’m looking forward to SC2:HotS. Oh boy, I can foresee the rage in league matches.
I was thinking that while my main wanders in Orr or Frostgorge, any crafting materials he picks up will be deposited to collectibles. Once I’m done adventuring, I’ll switch to my trader alt, withdraw the deposited materials and sell it off.
Also, any deals that might come up, the trader will buy it off and retain it on his own bag, not the account bank space.
Does that make sense?
Back in that “other game”, I had a bank/trader alt whose sole purpose was to buy and sell and trade with other players. He was also souped up with a tuxedo and a monocle to look the part, and I played along when other players RPed with me.
Anyone out there use their extra character slot for a bank/trader alt? Any tips? Or is a banker/trader alt a waste of character space?
I haven’t completed the map yet, and I’m still a rabbit in PvP. I’m not rushing to complete the content though, so I’m taking my sweet asuran time, preventing me to be burnt out from this game.
I actually want to slow down and login frequently since I need to get back on my writing. But I want to play a mesmer and a warrior complete the map save up for a legendary play the market explore wander kill maim cheer…
