So this is pure speculation, but I think we’ll get new toys and gadgets to equip with our towns clothes. More costume brawl? Would love to hit someone with a teddy bear or a candy cane.
…there are no 6 or 8 actions bars cluttered on the bottom and the side of my screen.
Sure, you can outrun a centaur… but you will never outrun a deer. And if you do, you would be so traumatized to tell about it.
There are so many !
One favourite is when a small guild group was following a huge zerg into green keep as they were taking it, and managed to get up on the Vista above lord room, holding it off up there for about 30-45 minutes as the zerg desperately tried to get to us
Or the other night as about 15 invader players were attacking Hills inner wall with cata’s on one side up on the breached outer wall, and us on the other side with cata’s.
There was some confusion as the wall went down, but we waited patiently and as the opposing group ran in to lord room, we just followed up and took them out from the back, capping Hills in the process
Nothing like decimating your foes from the rear! /boisterouslaugh
I can’t believe no one had said it yet.
Whenever I stub my toe or hit my shin, I would yell out in my Charr voice “MY LEG!!!”
I am missing only the southern vista in Yaks Bend Garrison on their BL. A couple of days ago we (Tarnished Coast) held their entire BL. I was running around trying to get the map completed.
I ran into the Garrison to get that last spot, and as I ran in YB took down the walls and charged into their garrison. I ran as quickly as I could for the vista. The YB defenders were enraged and wanted blood. About 10 of them saw me running to the garrison door and gave chase. They caught up with right outside the garrison and proceed to fill my body with arrows. I died about 30 steps from the vista.
I am still missing that vista, and it is the only WvW spot I am missing on map. That vista is mocking me.
The beauty of a woman (or man) cannot compare with the beauty of the land. Men, and women, die to partake the calming sight — despite the flying arrows and clanging armors that draw near you.
I raise my tankard to your bravery sir (or ma’am)!
We were being pushed out of Anz, and the inevitable happened… the gate was busted in and the keep lord was felled. Our band of defenders jumped from the walls and ran towards Speldan. I can see my allies fall one by one behind me, not fast enough, or didn’t have the blessings of a Thief or a Mesmer.
We took a stand in Speldan: ten of us against the horde of Red bee-lining towards us. Then I said to everyone around me, “Gentlemen, it was a pleasure fighting alongside with you all.”
The last thing I remember was a Twilight sword slicing through my body.
Maybe adding a fee on representing a guild could curb the guild hopping. If you stand down from a guild, you won’t get penalized or charged for a fee. But once you represent a specific guild, you get charged a fee, and that fund goes to the guild bank. The Guild Leader and the Officers won’t lose any money since they can withdraw from the bank, but the newbies and the normal members would think twice by standing down from a guild. And the Officers can set the amount of how much they can charge.
How DARE you enjoy this ghame!
It makes sense that they dont want us to farm story missions. No need for any source, just common sense.
Man, I thought Steel Tide was some sort of DE, but learning that it’s a story quest… HA! Nerf bat was appropriate.
The only two current viable formations that seem to work well right now and ARE effective to certain degrees are ‘Stacking’ and ‘Portal Bombs’. Both unique to GW2 WvW.
Man, I would like to see a playbook of GW2 WvW Formations and Maneuvers… like a Sun-Tzu Art of War type of thing.
Last night, we were pushing back and forth between a supply camp and a keep. We were doing great holding the camp, but somehow we got scattered. I noticed that they encircled us slowly and pinched us in. Which then goes into… Maneuver Warfare
Maybe a stupid question, but I’m wondering if Tactical Formations are viable and applicable to WvW. Any guilds, commanders out there command a troop to do a formation?
Maybe have the Daily Variety activate once you reach level 80? I can understand that while leveling, the initial Daily Achievement will complete while doing your hearts. But as soon as you reach 80, the Daily Achievement becomes a routine.
At the current, we have these four activities to complete our dailies:
- Kill 60 Hostiles
- Kill 15 Varying Hostiles
- Gather 20 Stuff
- Complete 5 Events
I don’t mind these, but I do want some variety in them. Maybe have new stuff to do every other day so it won’t feel monotonous. Here are my ideas:
- Complete 2 Jumping Puzzles
- Complete 1 Meta-Event
- Complete 1 Dungeon
- Kill 20 Hostiles of the same type
- Kill 15 Hostiles by Underwater combat
- Salvage 20 Materials
I will hand a blank check to Anet if they put in a rifle that looks like a candy cane and shoots tinsel as the particle effect….
You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!
I’m for Free-To-Play ONLY for sPvP. F2P users can only access the Heart of the Mists. If they want to play WvW and PvE, they would have to upgrade their account.
This would be good if ANet is building their eSports viability in the future. As of now, they can’t compete with the level of LoL’s eSports scene because LoL is F2P. They might get in the level of SC2, but the current offering of GW2 PvP is lacking (no ranking system, no spectator mode, no replay videos).
Saw this on reddit:
Jingle bells, bookah smells
Rytlock laid an egg.
Snaff mobile lost its wheel,
and Logan ran away.
HEY!
The halloween was pretty much a human event. This one is asura. I hope we get an event with Charr as the focal point.
Us Charr can make up our own event. Why don’t we celebrate Caturday!? Everyone plays on their Charr toon on Saturday!
I would love to see an event where Tixx’s toys go haywire and cause havoc in Lion’s Arch. But instead of destroying the toys, Tixx asks you to zap them with a special rifle that drains its batteries. Once you subdue them, you return them to Tixx so he can give it to the kids.
I hope by the end of this week we’ll get the name change from BLTC. The makeover kit was totally unexpected for me.
I wanted clarification regarding the Ascended Gear and the “Legendary Wall” that was stated in the blog. So I wrote this in the AMA.
I’d like some clarification.
I never understood what was meant by the “Legendary Wall,” but after reading your answers, I somehow got an idea of what it is.
To craft Legendaries, you would need to devote a lot of time in dungeons, exploration and WvW. Along with this is the RNG or the wealth you have accumulated. Basically, to have a Legendary, you must be a jack-of-all-trades in this game.
With the Ascended tier introduced, players who do not want to be the jack-of-all-trades can acquire Legedanry-esque items, which are the Ascended gear.
So if a players just wants to wander around Tyria and explore, they can get an Ascended gear. If a player just wants to WvWvW, they can get an Ascended gear. In short, Ascended gear is open to everyone who don’t want a Legendary, but want something that is equal to it.
Am I understanding it correctly?
And his response.
Yes like many other types/rarities of item in the game the players would be able to get the Ascended items by playing the aspects of the game they really enjoy doing. And in the interim keep working slowly but surely toward their Legendary.
I think this is great, and it quells my pessimism towards Ascended gear. Currently, the only way to get Ascended is through FotM. Hopefully, down the road, more options are given to get or craft Ascended gear.
Thoughts?
After the patch, I have been apathetic to the whole Ascended gear kerfuffle. I’ve read the arguments from both sides, and I think there’s a compromise to assuage both parties concerned.
Instead of adding a new tier of gear, they could add a consumable item that would add an infusion slot to a selected gear. You can call it “Infuser Stone”. There will be three types, which are the Defensive, Offensive and Omni. This way, we can keep Exotic gear as the highest tier, but also add a gating mechanic for the hardcore dungeoneers.
Thoughts?
When you observe the WoW forums, you’ll find that there are a lot of disgruntled players because of CRZ and Daily quests. I assume that ANet is banking on grabbing some of these disgruntled WoW players by implementing gear progression. Also, around this time, some annual passes are expiring. My SO’s annual pass expired last month, and he unsubbed after it expired. So, in ANet’s eyes, what better time than now.
But after reading some of the posts here and thinking about it more and more, ANet should have stuck with their guns and not try to grab a chunk of the market now that WoW is teetering. GW2 should remain as a distinct MMO with no gear progression or a semblance of it. Instead of expanding their reach, they should have bolstered their core. The Ascended gear and the uproar it caused is a good indication that the players are pessimistic.
Of course this is just a theory/tin-foiling.
Someone made a comparison of the Dutch arriving in America and Tyrians invading the Lost Shores… So I think us Tyrians have mimicked Thanksgiving in someway.
A home… so I can use the wood I chopped from Kessex Hill for my fireplace. Invite people over for a roast pig from my Chef outfit. Get everyone drunk and have everyone brawl it out since everyone got coal for Wintersday.
For me, GW2 is my number one MMO.
Unfortunately my overall number one videogame is Fallout 3, followed by Chrono Trigger. So GW2 is number three in my overall gaming life.
I’m wary about how open the survey is. Why not have the survey pop-up in game like in the beta weekends? Also, why not have an incentive for taking the survey? After doing it, you get a free something (keys, gems, special items.)
Didn’t buy those chest. I learned that from the Halloween event… actually I didn’t buy keys to open those chests.
The thing I bought from the Halloween event were the mini-pets. I was disappointed that this event didn’t have an option to buy mini-pets. They could have sold the weekend event mini-pets that were uncommon, and then have rare/exotic mini-pets in the consortium chests.
At least give the consumers the option to buy directly without gambling our money.
There’s a lot to like about this game! If we make threads about those great things individually, it will be marked as spam and would overwhelm the front page.
Granted there are some flaws, and one issue is standing out. But the great things about this game trumps the flaws, and those flaws will eventually be fixed. And the best part? No sub fee! I can login as I please and just enjoy the game as is.
I enjoyed the one-time event. Although it was problematic at times, overall it was an epic experience, which is lacking on other MMOs currently. So after everything was said and done, I check the forums. I see all these negative opinions on GW2 and all the rage-quit posts. I’m tempted to respond, but I know I’ll branded as a fanboy.
Maybe I am a fanboy. I want to defend this game since I’ve finally found my home. It’s like I’m a Tyrian patriot.
But what do I like about this game? The possibilities, the great great possibilities, that this game will release in the future. Four months in, and the game has a lot to offer without any subscription fees. Talk about bang for your buck. The combat system is amazing. Some say it’s not, but in my opinion is the best currently after the four-bars, eight-bars of skills that are overwhelming and annoying when UIs get changed and whatnot. And the customization that goes to your character. You want him to look cool? You can give him skins that appeals to your taste!
But the negative opinions in here do matter, and some of them have valid points. For me, if ANet (gods forbid) decides to implement the trinity system, I will definitely be disgruntled and perhaps leave. The current issue now is the Ascended items, which at first glance is the beginning of a treadmill, which I abhor.
But it looks like Ascended items are like Legendaries for armor. If ANet decided to implement legendary armor, the “Legendary” wall will be prolonged or even exacerbated. Instead, they gave us another type of Legendary, which are called Ascended.
Guild Wars 2 is a team game. In PvE you may team up with a stranger or a group running around doing an event. In PvP you’re grouped with other players to become the victor of the match. In WvW everyone is working together to conquer a tower, a camp or a fort. And in dungeons the group must be well informed to make it through the run.
When you’re in a team, communication is necessary. Text chat is not effective under tense situations, and in tense situations, communication is a must. When a cap point in PvP is under attack, a lone wolf or a duo needs to use all their fingers to activate skills, kite, move around, dodge and target. Stopping to chat for reinforcements will get you murdered. Also with dungeons, crucial seconds are wasted on stopping to /say “sTEP AWAY FROM THE BOSS!” or “Move away from redcircle1314512adwswaadawasda”.
In PvE, the need to connect with a random stranger is strong. Once again, stopping to make friendly chit-chat takes away precious seconds of DPS. There are a lot of occasions where I would like to say something more than “hi” and “ty”. In WvW, map chat is a good tool to communicate any incoming armies. Guilds and teams are formed, and most groups use a third-party program for voice chat. But as soon as everyone converges on one contested area, you have a mixture of teams that have their own voice channels, and you also have the soloists who just follows the leader and whoever.
With that said, Guild Wars 2 needs a voice chat. No need to hit “enter” to type a response. It will make PvP more organized for teams and PUGs. It will make dungeons more manageable and less annoying. It will make PvE more sociable and fun. It will make WvW more engaging and thrilling. Voice chat will be limited by proximity. If someone is yelling from far away, you can only hear a faint voice. And If you get near him, you’ll find out why he was yelling in the first place clearly.
But with the listed benefits, there are drawbacks — annoying and offensive people spouting out obscenities; people who won’t shut up and who continue to sing Call Me Maybe; kids and man-childs who won’t back down on name-calling and mom-insulting. There is a solutions for this, one of them is the “mute” button. If that’s not enough, there’s also the currently implemented “report” button. Another concern would be noise. If voice chat is implemented, Lion’s Arch will be noisy with people talking over people talking over people, which becomes “rhubarb, rhubarb, peas and carrots” times a hundred. If this is too much, you can turn off voice chat to save your ears.
This is wishful thinking, and I’m not sure how much of an undertaking this will be. World of Warcraft took three years to implement voice chat, and that was still unused and broken. But Guild Wars 2 has an advantage over WoW — GW2 is instanced so chat servers can be separated. If voice chat is implemented soon in GW2, it will change how we play with one another. No doubt that Guild Wars 2 is a team game and a very social game. But currently, its potential is severely hindered by the outdated chat box.
I actually have a theory that agony/infusion will only be limited to Fractals of the Mists, and there will be no future dungeons that will have agony/infusion.
Basing on how GW2 is dynamic with their events and world-changing events, FotM will also change. Next month or two, we might get to save Tybalt or Forgal, or we may travel to Orr before it was destroyed. Or how about they change one chain in the FotM that reflects the current Holiday. Maybe there’s a chain where you get to see Oswald before he was cut to pieces.
Am I the only one who is not concerned about the Ascended gear? I shrugged at it, and I was more excited about the new map and the new event. Anyone else unfazed by this new tier of gear?
That caught my eye as well. I speculate that it is going to be an alternative to the TP.
Could it be an auction house?
Just to note that not all monster attack rely on LoS. In CoE story mode Kudu(or whatever) the asura boss that one shots one can still hit you perfectly fine behind a pillar.
I saw he was targeting me, got behind a pillar thinking – what a great idea. If I can’t attack him maybe he can’t attack me too. And then I was dead.
Oof. Thanks for the tip.
LOS double-pulls and L-shaped two-player pulls will both work to split larger social groups in two.
LOS double-pull: stand near edge of LOS and shoot the marked target from extreme distance. Backpedal even further beyond the LOS. When entire group leashes, hit the marked target again and run towards it slightly. In most cases you’ll retain only the marked target and maybe one or two from the original group. Prime example: Lt. Kohler in any of the AC exp paths. You can get him alone and his two adds will leash back up top.
L-shaped two-player pull: Player A shoots at anything other than the marked target in a social group and drags them horizontally across the rest of his party at a point about 1200 out from the party. Player B in the party shoots the marked target as the group passes in front of the party, while Player A curves away from the party. Net result? only a few near the marked target will split off towards the party, and the rest will leash as Player A continues running, and will then ignore the party as they leash back to their origin point.
Great tip! Thanks! I didn’t know there were more than one type of LOS-ing.
I have to say, Zhaitan should have gone down faster than the current. Spamming the cannon attack button was boring. Although the serpent tentacles was a good aside, I think he should have taken more damage from each cannons.
It was cool to see him clutching on to the pillar, and it was great that I have to shoot him down! But it took too long.
I think Okami has the best final boss fight. <Spoiler Ahead for Okami> You get the final boss down, but then comes back for the final phase. The final phase was the best since he was going down fast, and each hit was a big in-your-face! feeling as you mowed him down.
All in all, good dungeon though. But it dragged for me.
I learned LOS from the game that must not be named. Basically, you position your group in a corner, which is out of sight from the mob. Someone pulls the mobs then hides in the corner with the group. Once the mobs reach the corner, they’ll be clumped together. Everyone then unleashes their AoE.
(Disclaimer: I haven’t done this in dungeons yet, but I have done this multiple times in PvE)
Hi all, I haven’t done any dungeons lately, but I’m planning to do a lot this month in the wake of the monthly achievement and the new, upcoming dungeon.
In PvE, I use LOS a lot especially if I aggro a ranged mob in a tight space. I would shoot them, hide in a corner and grind them up with my daggers. Will LOS be as effective in dungeons? And should newbies be aware of this little tactic?
Can we have an “Inebriated” effect that stacks? You get this effect when you drink alcoholic beverages. Here are the stats:
Inebriated
+2% Chance to receive random boon
+2% Chance to receive random condition
(2 minute duration, stacks to 25)
Add/suggest more about “cosmetic” effects!

You know… I have this wild idea that I want to share.
So down the line of development, ANet will release a new class called Chronomancers. These Chronomancers are master of time, manipulating present, past and future. There will be a personal storyline that will give you an opportunity to alter the past, and one of the options is to save Tybalt or the other guy (not sure who he is, but my SO did the Vigil one).
So we go back in time, back to Claw Island. You can’t reveal yourself to your past-self since it will create a paradox that would bend and break your mind. So you disguise yourself and your Chronomance companion as the undead. As soon as Tybalt enters the gate and closes it behind him, you and the Chronomancer jump in to save Tybalt.
But the undead is just too overwhelming. So you retreat, and the Chronomancer is having trouble with opening up a time rift that would bring you back to present time. You and Tybalt fight side-by-side again, steam-rolling waves of undead. Finally, the Chronomancer opens the time rift, and you jump in — together with Tybalt.
<inspired by Chrono Trigger>Argh! I’m at work!!! I want to see this place!
Totally worth it, and more to come this November I heard. Can’t wait.
For everyone else, they get instanced housing. For the 1%, they get non-instanced housing. That’s something to grind for.
So if you have non-instanced housing, you have to pay a weekly upkeep for it, or else you’ll be evicted — helps to vacate the house if said player stopped playing for a long time.
1. No. Will not buy.
2. Yes.
3. Yes. 500 gems seems fair for towns clothes and skins.
4. Yes.
5. Yes.
6. No.
7. No.
26 here! GW2 is the best! Looking forward to what ANet have in their sleeves.
@krojack
A friend and my SO recommended SWToR, so I hopped in. I admit that game was great with storytelling and immersion to the Star Wars universe (but I hear SWG was the best-est). What killed the game for me was PvP. It reminded me why I gave up on WoW — you have to grind for the better gear, and if you don’t, you’re screwed. I can’t emphasize enough of how happy I am with GW2’s PvP system.
@Sarthersis: There’s also SWToR which is a clone to WoW. But then again, maybe you’re getting tired of MMOs in general.
I’m not a WoW expert or anything. I began playing on WotLK and stopped around Cata. WoW has established their system and their gameplay, and for those who enjoyed their game will continue to do so. Yes, they have set a standard, and companies risk if they make radical innovations that shy away from the MMO standard.
It’s hard to get out of the mindset of the Skinner’s box. I did struggle when I first started my few weeks in Tyria, but I eventually got weaned of the “uber gear” and “uber pwnage” mindset. But in the horizon, there will be more MMOs available in the market. Some will cater to your want on an MMO, while some will irk you for the things they lack, for the things that we deem should be standard from launch.
And this becomes a cycle. I hopped from WoW to SWToR. And when SWToR didn’t satisfy me, I completely stopped playing MMOs. I returned to StarCraft 2, and boy was that a rage-fueled fall and summer of 2012! MMOists is hard to satisfy. Try as the devs might, there will always be a cacophony of anger and rage and disappointment. Why? We expect too much, comparing a new MMO against the champ of MMOs.
We will never be satisfied.
There’s ArcheAge in the horizon and Wildstar twinkling in the future. The Secret World sounds good, and I like that modern setting with a horror theme. We’re all looking for an online home. It’s out there somewhere, but I found mine here in the lush greens of Tyria.
TL;DR — TIL I’m a fanboy…
