Is there a gated item this time?

16 Days.

There’s something that takes 16 days to complete from the time you start/initiate it?

Other than daily map currency gating, I don’t think there is anything.

Okay, thank you. Barely scratched the surface of the new map and story, going to take a break for today and get back on it tomorrow.

If you’re asking whether people have reason to return to Siren’s Orr? Yes. Plus reason to return to the other five maps, too.

I guess I just meant like that Druid thing from Flashpoint? Where there was an item that you eventually find out about and it takes like 21 days to complete the whole thing, because you can only get so many things in a day? Is there anything like that?

Specifically for any sort of achievement or time gated item? I mean, anything that you buy from a vendor (I have ‘barely’ just arrived at the island, and haven’t finish the story, was thinking about stopping for the day, because I’m getting kinda tired) that requires you to go do other things in other zones or collect magic or zone currency, that’s one thing.

I guess I meant more specifically like that back piece that you have to grow and it literally limits you to how much progress you can make in a day. Is there anything like that?

The short question…
Is there a time gated item achievement/reward this time, like the back piece for Flashpoint?

The longer version…
I just did “Where’s Waldo” (will have to go back to get ‘Block’, knew what I had to do, but messed up the first one b/c I wasn’t awareshe always casts from the same place).

I was hoping to take my time, and do a little each day (was thinking about stopping for the day), but when I did that last time, I heard there was a 21 day (14?) back piece Druid thing (Flashpoint), so felt compelled to push to get that done as soon as possible.

Whether rational or not is not the point (my reasoning is I just wasn’t sure what the steps were going to be, and if it involved needing lots of help, there is always the concern that everyone else is going to burn through it quick, and realistically, how long are you going to have help for, yada yada, one thing led to another, nudge nudge, know what I mean?…), but if there “isn’t” anything like it this time around, then I think I might just do a bit each day, take my time. If there is a big time gated thing, then I’d like to pick up the pace.

This is the 2nd time in a week, 6am PST where Sh. (trying to find an abbreviation that isn’t kittened, I’m not going to type out ererererererer every time, but will gladly stop and type all this out in hyberbolic exasperation at the sillyness of not being able to abbreviate his name without ‘erer’ on the end) has not started after doing the collection and escort quickly.

Someone mentioned that if you don’t escort the collection NPCs all the way back to town, it won’t start? If that is true, that is kinda crazy. In our 15 min windows, it just takes too long, it’s dead space. That needs to be fixed.

Im not sure i get your drift.
There are only two raid tabs, one for individuals looking for a group, and one for groups looking for more people.
There are currently 13 bosses spanned over 4 wings, 3-3-3-4.
But some bosses require sharp attendance, like Xera and Matthias, theyre mot often queued in the LFG tool since they require a lot of coordination

Oh boy…

Squad, sorry! Not raid.

Are all squads advertised in LFG? Or can people make squads and hide them?

I’ve been back long enough I should know this, but have been using LFG to find squads to do things like Shatterer, and I’m realizing that maybe there are hidden squads out there maybe that are doing things in other instances of a zone, but you can’t see them to join them?

Gamebreaking: Shields hide back items.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

notebene.3190

You can’t have the shield hidden when stowed, because it’s silly to pull a shield out of nowhere every time combat starts,

That is entirely subjective. We makes thousands of suspensions of disbelief in games so we can actually play a game and have fun doing it. When I stow my staff, it floats in the air behind my back. Whether it’s suspended because of a choice to make the game fun and enjoyable, or whether it’s a limitation to keep development at a reasonable cost in both dollars and turn around in time (any game could ‘fix’ the stowed floating sheathed staff problem, it would be extraordinarily expensive and time consuming), we come up with wonderful explanations after the fact to explain why things are the way they are, but it’s still about suspension and keeping a game and game.

and inconsistent with game design being that weapons should be visible on your character at all times.

I doubt there is an internal mission statement that indicates one of their core, fundamental design philosophies is that no design decision should ever:

a) covet thy neighbors wife
b) cause weapons, when sheathed, to become hidden

Flying goes against design philosophy. Mounts go against design philosophy. We had mix and match outfits, now we don’t. All things change.

Making it a toggle would allow you to not feel silly, and allow me to look how I want. Choices and options.

I’d like to see an option to hide any or all stowed weapons. I’d also like them to add an option to automatically sheathe weapons immediately after combat ends.

I suppose it would be nice to have an option to set back item preference between a shield or the back item (or any other item that might come down the road, like a cloak or something else).

I think the unbound magic gathering tools, at least with harvesting, do it all in one go, if it has a bonus. So like sometimes when you get 2 or 3 pulls on a single plant? If there is a ‘bonus’ on that plant, it happens entirely on the first pull and you get it all.

Elementalist Attunement UI

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

notebene.3190

I seem to recall this was a bug a long time ago that was fixed. It seems to have appeared again very recently (either the last big patch, or a small post patch).

Sometimes when I zone, or login, or maybe come out of being transformed, or maybe other things, the UI does not indicate which of the attunements is currently active. If you switch to another attunement and back, it’s fine, until whatever causes it happens again.

I mean, we know because of the abilities we have, and even the ‘color’ of those abilities, just a minor annoyance, so I raised my hand.

Fighting cats in home instance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

Disclaimer: I suppose looking back through this, it might look like I’m making fun of you, but I’m really not. And ‘you’ is you and everyone else. I just find it interesting from the perspective of ‘what we choose to call things’ (like calling the ‘Estate Tax’ the ‘Death Tax’ to illicit a certain reaction, even though the underlying thing it references has not changed).

I wonder how much of this is just because of what they were called. ‘Fighting’ cats. If they were described everywhere as ‘playing’ cats, would you have asked about this. The animation isn’t super specific, they could be fighting or playing, but because they were called ‘fighting cats’ to begin with, that is what you see them doing.

If they renamed them everywhere they are described (including the wiki) as ‘playing’ cats, would that make a difference? Is there something specific about the animation that makes it look like they are fighting and not playing? Or is it mostly that you are ‘told’ they are fighting, so that is what they are doing?

I’m just wondering if they could just change the name of them to ‘playing’ (w/ and w/o snowball) and if that would fix it, or if that ship has sailed, and even if their name is changed, we’d see them as fighting because that is what we were told?

If a new person got them after the name change, would they post a thread that says, “I know they are called ‘playing’ cats, but it ‘really’ looks like they are fighting, and I wish they’d change it so it looked like they were playing”?

Add 3-4 daily repeatable hearts, an LW1 currency, some daily quests, maybe a few more events if needed, and put some of the old LW1 items like the Halo (which I have, and have no need to feel like a special snowflake) and maybe some ascended items like the LW3 zones have (I think we could use more earrings, if I’m not mistaken).

I thought of it because…I need more earrings, and saw a post about someone wanting an old Halo item, and this map coming up in the ‘worst maps’ post (simply because there isn’t much to do) and then hopping out there now to talk to the Pack Supply Network person and realizing … there aren’t even really any hearts or vistas or things like that.

Now that I know it isn’t really a bug as far as they are concerned (as it has been this way awhile, I just wasn’t in a position to realize it), I’ll stop pushing it as such, and I made a ‘quality of life’ suggestion, as it would improve my quality of life, and they can do what they will with that suggestion and I’ll move on.

Thanks

Technically this is two, but they are related:

1) No action or passive event should make you sheathe/unsheathe your weapons other than a) combat or b) binding a key to sheathe/unsheathe your weapons.

There are lots of things that do it, like the state you are left in sometimes after you use objects in the world, but more recently, obtaining the new unbound magic gathering tools. The basic tools you buy in the world and the first version of unlimited tools introduced in the game (which I own) do ‘not’ unsheathe your weapons. I’m being told that many of the other (all?) introduced after that time force the unsheathe.

And speaking of sheathing and weapons…

2) It would be nice to be able to have a setting to hide your weapons when sheathed, as well as the ability to toggle that setting via a key bind. Additionally, when the setting is enabled to hide weapons, whether or not to show a small UI indicator (somewhere) indicating which set of weapons you currently have equipped (as…we would not be able to see them if set to hide). Although, that is less necessary, as you can bind a key to ‘sheathe/unsheathe’ and just toggle that quickly to remind yourself.

This happens with other tools, too.

Really? It doesn’t happen with the standard tools or the first set of unlimited tools we got (which are the only tools I have experience with).

That’s a bummer if it’s true, it’s really, really annoying. So like robo-tron, fireflys, all the other types, force your weapons to unsheathe?

At any rate, still happens after 6/20 patch.

On a serious note, I think they’ve been treating the symptoms and not the disease – that certain skills (engie turrets, necro minions etc.) not only allow but encourage idle play. How about making these skills more active? Beefed up, mannable turrets for point defense? Controllable minions and ranger pets that reward micromanagement?

Interactive Guardian spirit weapons might be too much to ask for, however.

/twobirds

I wouldn’t be very excited about changing those two classes so you had to manage those things more closely. While I’m not a turret Engi (except my healing turret, and the occasional elite turret…thing (I forget what it’s called…the box of surprises), I do use two minions on my Necro, and would hate to have to play busy body with them.

I think they should make turrets and pets stop doing damage and attacking and drop all agro if there hasn’t been any input in 30 seconds.

What’s weird is the past few days, I have hardly seen any Necros loitering around berry trees when I do my berry run with my Ranger.

I kinda miss them, as they made the run a little bit easier, as I like to clear out each area before picking my berries, rather than training mobs over everyone, which seems to be the way many people do it.

Now that you made things like Winter Berries things that can be stored in collections, you need to give us a way to see how much of each of those currencies we have in the wallet. So we don’t have to drive to Arkansas to check the collections in our bank.

Clicking on an item that requires that currency (in the vendor buy window) will show you down at the bottom how much you have of that currency – I think it is on the left side and the price being on the right side by the “buy” button.

Thank you. I guess I knew that, just making the point that it’s not very convenient when some items that are currencies are not in the wallet and others are. It wouldn’t be terribly useful if there were no wallet, and there were no indication as to how much gold you had accumulated in the game, unless you found a vendor that would sell you something, and then clicked on it, to see your total. Which, is why I thought the quality of life would be greatly improved if there were some consistency in the wallet UI, showing the total of all currencies you have accumulated.

Edit: Anet said they were going to remove facial expressions?!? What? When? Why?? I miss the movie dialogues (they were well done), and I miss my characters showing emotions via facial expressions. Please, don’t remove those!

My test was a Guardian at Camp Resolve. Tried my Necro because of your comment, the lighting was a bit different, I guess there is a very subtle change to her expression, but nothing like the OP was suggesting, which without a screen shot of what they are seeing, I can only speculate is the crazy smile that you see when you ride a broom (or at least, what it used to look like when you rode a broom, haven’t done it in quite awhile).

I was thinking about this just the other day, but more from a developer creativity point of view, wondering if it starts by looking at the map in the tool itself, or is it more born out of running around in the world after it’s largely created, things like that.

I really like the angle you are thinking about it from, however. I’ve been watching a bunch of Wooden Potatoes on my Roku before bed as of late, mostly the lore videos, and think it would be funny if there were a lore character associated with them.

And of course, I use a lot of seasonal ones like mini ghost and princess doll.

For example, if you want the location in Bloodtide Coast, dial “VIII”, then dial “VI” on the Rift Stabilizer “telephone”. Coordinates credits go to Tim.

Click on the green circles to “check off” that location. The connecting lines are just to make it easier to see the locations, you don’t have to do it in that order.
