Was the Queen’s Jubilee just that one time, or does it recur? I know the wiki says it was ‘temporary’ content, but I didn’t see anything about whether it was a celebration that shows up yearly or not.

Been awhile, and I can’t recall much about it. I have 205 tickets to the Gauntlet, and wonder if I should just delete those.

I’ve never thought of buying them because I still have stacks of Black Lion Salvage Kits (never bought them, they just piled up from somewhere), and only use them on Exotic+ armor (usually sell weapons I don’t need, unless the weapon has a shiny sigil) or for the 100% extraction if I’m upgrading/changing weapons.

Closing maps

Thanks everyone.

On bigger things like the AB meta, Teq, Shad (though there is often no taxi for him when I play), DS, I always look for raids/taxis.

I think this was the first time I ever showed up for a little WB and, albeit early, and it told me the map was closing, but I saw a few people there waiting. Wasn’t clear if it made sense to just wait, because the map might fill up again, or go ahead and go. Didn’t help that I was the only person in the new map until just a few minutes before it started, but everyone ended up flooding in as they do.

Just made me curious as to whether it actually marked a map to not accept new people, or if it would ‘change it’s mind’ and start letting people in.

How would you fix dialogue?

I like the old style and the new style. I wish they would mix the two together from time to time.

My biggest problem with the new system is sound. It’s all over the place with my surround sound system, and unless I’m looking at a character ‘just right’, I can hardly hear them. I have to look back and forth at people talking to make sure I can hear them, which is a bit of a pain. I also spend a lot of time re-reading what they are saying in the text in the chat box.

The original system didn’t have that issue. Everyone was nice and loud in ‘center channel’, where they belong.

Closing maps

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

If you are on a map and were told it would be closing in an hour, other than joining a raid and using ‘join’, are other players assigned to maps designated to be closing when they travel to the map, or are they redirected to maps that are healthy enough to remain open?

The scenario I’m thinking of is logging in an alt to do a world boss. I’m about 20 min early on this boss, but usually just login and go read teh intratubes for a bit. Today I logged in and within a few minutes, it told me the map was closing. I ran out to where the boss would spawn, 2 other people standing there. There was no WB train advertised, or any other ‘central tyria’ raid.

So do I leave that map, because it won’t be letting new people in it anyways (unless some super popular person makes a raid on that IP and gets everyone to join him/her there), or should I stay on that one, because it will repopulate, or take the free ride, assuming all the population will go there?

FWIW, I took the ride, and like no one is here, and I have a bad feeling I chose poorly.

That’s not a bad idea. Wouldn’t hurt to ask. Haven’t used it yet.

Though I might have used up my one ‘good will’ request a few years back when ascended jewelry came out and I accidentally bought two of a ‘unique’ item, not knowing what that meant, and they said that was my ‘one time’ fix. :/

Thanks. Looks like Crusader and Marauder are the only two that I can pick with 4 stats. The rest are all the older ones. I guess I’ll just pick a 3 stat condi one for maybe a beserker warrior.

That’s what I get for not checking to see if I new the recipe first.

I bought an ascended longbow recipe, as I was going to make a bow for my Ranger, and realized I already have the Beserker recipe (must have been working on it before I took a break last time and forgotten about it).

So now I have this unused ‘Ascended Longbow’ recipe, and was wondering if there was another stat combo that might be useful for another (this?) class that I might want to consider in the future that I could pick, so the recipe doesn’t go to waste? I know the Guardian gets a bow at some point, maybe they use a different stat combo?

Thanks for the Super Cloud Glider!

I’m mixed, I like them both, and, I guess we still ‘have’ both, depending on what part of the story you are playing. If you never make a new character again and play through the story, you won’t get to see it moving forward, I suppose. I do like the old side-by-side. It had a neat style about it.

My only struggle with the new ‘in game’ cut scenes is the dialog volume. There’s something about how my Realtek 5.1 audio works with this particular game, or perhaps how they chose to do their dialog, that makes it hard for me to hear them unless I keep turning to face each of them. Don’t really have anyone to help me figure out if there are settings I can change to make that work different. Most games that have 5.1, if I’m not facing someone, it’ll just come out loud from one of the other speakers. This game doesn’t work like that. It moves spatially, but then the volume drops off quite a bit.

@Kumion, both aren’t small enough, but a lot better. Dreamthistle is interesting, and if it weren’t for the big flower part on top, gets closer to just a skinny rod I’d like to see.

I like how Plasma grows, but it’s about twice as big sheathed as I’d like to see for a circle, and would like to see it more like a transparent little circle that grows into a big transparent circle. Like Mist weapons, but without the smoke, and maybe not purple/pink but a white/blue? I specifically made a Vision of the Mist for my Mesmer way back when so I could find my character under the surfboard.

Still, going to research how to obtain both of those you mentioned, thank you.

Don’t toss it. If Dire proves not so great for you, you can fairly cheaply convert the weapon to other stats via the Mystic Forge.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_weapon#Prefix_change

Just get an ori inscription with the new stats you want and use that. So what you have is an ascended weapon of any stats you want; choose an alt that needs one and customize it for that alt.

Keep forgetting I can do that, and didn’t realize how inexpensive it was.

I’ve lately been enjoying my Necromancer quite a bit, but other than my main, I tend to cycle through them all quite a bit.

Outside of that, I suppose it would make sense (assuming they are account bound) to get something that the ‘most’ people could use? Not super excited about the skins themselves, I like small and plain skins, so I’m sure I’d re-skin it anyways.

Shield is a real sore spot for me, sheathed shields are basically the WoW Shoulders of GW2 to me.

I really like your bracer shield idea, especially if it had a really small sheathed footprint.

Maybe a Tron shield type thing? A really, really (, really) [, no really] small disk sheathed on your back and when you equip it, it expands out with 2 rows of 4 quarter circles that hover away from the disc?

Or maybe just a small (did I mention really small, sheathed on your back?) rod and when you grab it to equip it, a translucent (bluish white?) shield forms around the handle.

When you are using something like a magic carpet or a flying broom ‘movement’ toy, the feature was added to make it ‘pop on’ when you start running around after a few seconds. Fun. I also noticed that if you take off to glide and you left that toy enabled, it will come on after a few seconds, making you fall to your death. Not so fun.

Bug (imo) aside, why not let it come on, but ‘not’ stop the gliding process! That would be pretty awesome to glide on my broom and carpet.

Flying Carpet and Broom

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I noticed since the last time I played (before my hiatus) that the broom and magic carpet have an interesting behavior since last I used them. They seem to ‘stay on’ until you use the item again, in that if you start running, after a few seconds, you pop back on the carpet/broom as you move.

I was in town, and forgot I had it on, and went to glide off a high ramp in DR down towards that gate to Ascalon, if memory serves, and while I was gliding, it popped me back on my magic carpet, almost killing me, before I popped my glider back on before I hit the ground.

I guess that seems like some sort of bug, or maybe, the potential for a feature or quality of life change, but wanted to check here first before posting about it somewhere else.

Is there a way to make the broom/carpet ‘play nice’ with gliding? To not let it try to kill you? Better yet, is there a way to make it so if you have the carpet/broom active, and you do glide, it just ‘continues’ to have you on your broom/carpet while you glide? That would be pretty nice.

I’m about to do the last step to obtain a Regrown Caladbolg weapon, but I can’t decide which to get?

I’m assuming they are account bound? Should I pick one the most characters could use, and get one that is the most useful across characters until I can settle on a home for it, like the Greatsword?

Or, should I get something my main could use, like the Scepter? I already have an Ascended Staff (2) and a Focus. Admittedly, it has been a really long time since I’ve done anything other than Staff with my Elementalist, and the Scepter might be wasted in that sense.

Don’t particularly care for the skins, just looking at it as a way to get another ascended weapon for my main or one of my alts. I have one of each class, all 80.

Context Menu in Sell To Tab
When you right click on something in your inventory, you are given a menu based on the type of item you have. Maybe it’s destroy, maybe “Item Collection” is in there, maybe “Sell at Trading Post”, maybe “Deposit Material” (or that one is greyed out).

For me it would be useful to see that behavior on the “Sell” tab at a vendor. Often times, it’s easier when faced with a lot of collapsed bags, and already being at a vendor selling off junk material (and tier 1 runes and sigils), to then just start right-clicking on those items you see in the “Sell” tab (which, is just your inventory) and be able to get the same context menu you would from your inventory, to perhaps sell an item on the TP, or deposit it, or destroy it (understanding that items with no value don’t show).

If people were talking in map chat on your previous map instance, you could click on one of their names in your chat log and whisper them to see if they could party up with you so you could taxi back over. If you happen to remember the name of anyone in that map, you could also whisper them that way. But if you don’t have any chat log from that map instance or can’t think of someone’s name, then you don’t really have any other option, other than leaving the squad you joined and trying your luck with relogging.

That’s a good idea, I’ll remember that for next time, thank you!

Is there any way to ‘talk’ to people on that IP and ask them to throw up a taxi?

And in the event anyone is reading, can anyone at Teq right now throw up a taxi that’s in the ‘healthy’ zone? ‘Not’ the IP:30 zone?

I swear, they have an algorithm to specifically make sure no nodes of the type required to collect for a particular zone or region (wood, herbs, ore) are near any scheduled WB for the zone.

It never fails. Today, mining in Shiverpeaks. Not a single node of ore between the WP and the tents on the hill in Frostgorge waiting on Claw. Every other day, there’s the rich mithril node on the north side of the platform, Orchi and other Mithril everywhere, always that one on the south side too. Today, nothing. Oh, except one mithril I saw you had to fight to.

Happens with trees between the WP and going to Fire Elemental all the time too.

I swear, they do this on purpose.

I’m not going to dig it up, but eons ago, I had the suggestion of adding different walks and runs and idle animations as things we could just buy and enable/disable on our own, like a glider or a mini pet (though, with idle animations, you would could turn on multiple and it would cycle/random through those selected).

It spawned out of them changing one of the character’s old running animations and removing a bunch of their idle animations, and would allow people to set what ‘they’ would like to see at their own discretion.

I have a ‘kinda’ related issue, not sure if I should make a separate post, but I’ll risk posting it here in an effort to streamline the forum, and I suppose support your post in the process.

I play in 3rd person, and in some situations, I play relatively close to my character, like roughly the old default distance behind your character? There are some fights where it’s handy for me.

My issue as a staff elementalist is the long distance, ground target spells, and at certain angles, and being that close to the action, it’s hard and nitpicky to see if I have my cursor on the ground as ‘far’ out as I can. I usually have to sacrifice by not being close enough to the monster when rushed.

Taking a side step for a second, my spells have a red line under them if I’m targeting a part of the monster and I’m too far away to use that spell. Also helpful for me to re-target a different monster appendage so I’m in range, where I’m standing, so I can continue.

Now, when my cursor is away from me out on the ground and I press an area spell, I get an error message, and it won’t let me cast. My question/suggestion (quesggestion?) is: If it knows it’s going to refuse my cast where my cursor currently is away from my body, why not tell me that by putting the little red indicator bars under my spells? As I move the cursor away from me, there will be no red bar, until my cursor gets too far away, then it shows the red bars under the spells.

This would allow me to know that max distance in real ‘busy’ effects and chaos situations without having to actually see where my cursor is, relatively to identifiable things on the ground in front of me.

And maybe to cut down on the calculations, maybe make it only come on when you have something targeted and are auto-attacking with any of your other abilities? Wouldn’t want it having to recalculate that if I’m just running around not really attacking anything.

Not quite the same as yours, I know where my cursor is on the screen, I don’t know exactly where it is more precisely in the world, if that makes sense.

Edit: Oh, +1 to Donari’s suggestion. I tell people about that all the time. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than not knowing about it.

There’s actually already something like what you’re describing. Hit F11 to open options, scroll down to the bottom.

There’s two options there, one is ‘Lock Ground Target at maximum Skill Range’ which literally makes it so that even if you’re mouse is way off in the distance behind the target, at most a ground targeted spell will show up at the maximum possible range.

There’s also ‘Snap Ground Target to Current Target’ which literally just makes ground targeted spells cast on your currently selected target. (Assuming it’s within range, of course.)

I had no idea, thank you!

Going to give that a try with Golem today!

Update: Okay, I remember that ‘snap to’ setting in hindsight, and I didn’t care for that. I just tested to see what the ‘lock at max range’ would do, and this is going to be perfect for my needs, thank you!

Another that would be nice, and I can’t seem to find the screenshot (I have 1000s) is the human female repair NPCs. They have like some sort of overalls on with a short sleeved shirt I believe? There’s one in the area by the tavern close to where you start as a human. That would be a fun outfit.

I found this to be a nice quick way to finish up an elite spec on my older 80s I haven’t played in awhile, as well as when my newer Revenant hit 80 a month ago.

The wiki gallery of shield sadly says, no, but maybe you can find something suitably mechanicalish for your taste?

Also, I’m sad that shields are not more of a thing, because some of those skins are amazing.

While it’s not my taste, isn’t there one that’s like a wheel from a ship? Maybe on that vendor at the end of the pirate jumping puzzle in LA? I didn’t see it on that page?

I wish there were some really small shield options, like little frisbee or Tron type things that then grew when you equiped it. Kinda like the Zenith one grows, but even smaller than that when stored and just a plain circle or something.

Shields are our ‘WoW Shoulders’ for sure.

This isn’t a complaint, I don’t know enough about much of anything when it comes to combat numbers and min/max-ing and things like that. I’m sure my build is pretty lame, but I get by. I do ‘notice’ how Meteor Shower has changed, but for the content I’ve been doing, and my build, I don’t think it’s going to have a huge impact on me.

What I’m trying to figure out, and not seeing in the patch notes (it didn’t jump out at me) that anything changed with Barrage for Rangers, what the difference between the two are that Meteor Shower would get the 0.5 seconds, but not the other skill? They kinda seem the same to me, just from a damage perspective?
