So I finished up Ancient Magic (updated original post), but not really sure what would be the most useful to get now? I could just ‘open’ the next steps in categories I don’t have, but don’t buy them, just to move them along, and then save my last 20 points for maybe some new Ancient Magics they add to new Living Stories?

Basically just in the middle of the 3 Lores (Itzel, Nuhoch, Exalted).

Would that be acceptable to the OP? Or should I say, Opening Post-creator? Not to be confused with Over-Powered, or other game-related terms.

Opie?

Favorite Back Item?

Generally don’t like back items, but I use the Fervid Censer and Desert Rose sometimes on my casters, and the Sturdy Leatherworker’s Backpack on some of my leather and heavy wearers, depending on the rest of their outfit (though I wish that backpack was about 1/2 to 2/3 the size).

But generally I don’t show the back item at all.

Took a break 15 months ago (well, ‘left’ at that time, it’s a break when you find yourself back!) and I finished HoT and 3.1 and am doing 3.2 now, and am trying to get my bearings as to when each of these ‘landed’ this past year. I suppose it doesn’t matter, in the grand scheme of things, but just curious.

Really enjoying see hearts make a come back in 3.2! Not sure how the ‘infinite’ part works, are they daily? Also the salvaging items that have lots of mid-tier mats, that’s great!

Thanks, sounds like I should pick up those next two Ancient Mastery ones after I finish Ley Line. I already have Wallows and Poison (if it wasn’t clear, what I listed above were things I ‘completed’…except for Ley Line in Gliding, which I am currently working on).

If you’re going to spend any time on the latest 2 maps, Ancient Magics: Propulsion is a good pick.

When you say the latest two maps, do you mean the newest little maps that came with the Living World episodes?

I just finished the story with Bloodstone Fen, though have a few more things to hit for map completion. Haven’t started on the next two story steps yet.

I’ll go for that next, thank you!

Gliding: Ley Line
Itzel: Poison
Exalted: Acceptance
Nuhoch: Wallows
Thicket: Locked :/
Ancient Magic: Koda’s Flame

That’s as far as I’ve gotten. What are good things to do next?

I only have 20 points left, though might get 2 or 3 yet from Dragon’s Stand, as well as whatever is available in Bitterfrost Frontier (I just started that story). I could go back and start working on some challenges and such to earn more, but realistically not sure how many I’ll be able to earn.

Update: Always like me to post when I’m getting frustrated, then go right back in, and get it on the next try. Took me 4 rounds, but got it. Just ‘barely’, as he hit me with a rock and I fell to the ground just as the electrified floor went away. Thankfully my team came to help pick me up from being downed.

[Audio] HoT Story - My Own Character Vol

in Account & Technical Support

I can’t hear my own character’s voice very well during the dialog that happens when ‘not’ in a cut scene. The other characters are quite sometimes as well, but I always seem to be able to swing my camera around such that I can hear everyone pretty well. The only person who gets left out is my own character.

DXDiag Attached
Overview: Windows 10, Realtek HD Audio, DTS 5.1 Optical Audio

If there is a work around so I can hear better, that would be great. Even if I have to change audio settings before doing story steps.

Side Note: I very much enjoy the ‘hybrid’ old story/new story mode that you settled on. While I sometimes miss the old side-by-side cut scene dialogs with my characters voice, the real time mode (including voice over) is a nice idea and works well too. I just kinda like hearing my character again however it happens. I know that isn’t cheap, but the actors do a nice job.

BLT Set Buy Less Than Min Sell?

OK, thanks for the explanation.

I guess I’m seeing old ones that aren’t cleared out. They are usually those green armor runes that sell for nothing. Seems like there are always a few when you go to throw them on the TP (just to get them out of your inventory, and you aren’t near a vendor, but…money), rather than some defaulting to the right side lowest offer, it defaults to the highest bid, which you can’t even accidentally pick (though, 1 copper on like 9 wouldn’t matter much).

Why are you allowed to put up something for sale that is less than the minimum amount people can sell to you for, based on the items value and taxes?

Just as it stops us from selling to you at a price below a certain point, you should not be allowed to ask for a price below that.

HoT Story and LW3 vs HoT Map Compl

notebene.3190

Kinda related to this, I guess, because of how everything is interconnected?…

I left like 15 months ago, short of logging in every day for a freebie, and recently [other game] was down for a few days due to [reasons] and was bored and picked this up again.

I don’t know if it’s been simplified or made more solo-friendly or just taking a step back and putting fresh eyes on it, but I’m having a blast again, and kinda sad I stopped playing 15 months ago.

But, it’s still here, so I’m back and pushing on, for as long as I have time. Cleared the first map, nearly the second map (I need poison lore and exalted, I think, so finish two points in that 2nd map), and I’m in the third now. I’m taking my time, paralleling the story and map clearing and stopping to get caught up in all the events with everyone.

Tooling around in my Nature’s Oath and HoT glider, looking to blend in with the local vines.

Yeah, I quit for a few months too but I came back after the April patch when they reworked the rewards, made playing in the HoT zones a lot less painful and removed a lot of the grind. It really had to be done as HoT at launch was pretty terrible, IMO.

Anyway, not that you asked for it but I unlocked the masteries in this order, it seemed the best way of making sure that I could use the various travel options as soon as possible:

Gliding:
Glider Basics - 1 Mastery point
Updraft Use – 2 Mastery points

Itzel:
Bouncing Mushrooms – 1 Mastery point

Nuhoch:
Nuhoch Hunting - 1 Mastery point
Nuhoch Wallows – 2 Mastery points

Exalted:
Exalted Markings – 1 Mastery point

Then I went gliding to the end. After that I just started finishing off the lower level ones in a fairly random manner. It might have made more sense to finish things in a different order (I’m still finishing some of the HoT collections, and some of those require different masteries).

Thanks! Kinda doing the same thing, but got Markings before Wallows. Working on Wallows now.

I was confused as well cuz I seemed to have somehow jumped from killing Mordremoth to Bloodstone Fen, and there’s these NPCs talking to me about stuff I don’t recall ever seeing. As far as I can tell, I supposed to go to the raid, Forsaken Thicket, before Bloodstone Fen?
Anyway, now I’m in BF and can’t do much cuz I never leveled up my gliding. Ah well!

No, the raid is completely unrelated to LS3. Everything they talk about there happened in the HoT story.

Edit: Now that I think of it most of what I remember is from HoT but a lot of the background to the LS3 story happened in GW1 (Mursaat, bloodstones, the White Mantle and so on). Even more is in the human personal story (Noble origin and Missing Parents) and the Caudecus’s Manor dungeon. There is some more background in LS1 and LS2 so it’s quite probable that some of it may be in the raids too as that also deals with the White Mantle.

As for masteries, you only need gliding, updrafts and bouncing mushrooms. (Higher level gliding is very useful though).

HoT Story and LW3 vs HoT Map Compl

notebene.3190

I haven’t played (really) in over a year, and was finding myself tooling around the past few days, including spending some time in Verdant Brink in HoT. I originally started the LW3.1, and (spoiler) and I was a little confused. So I followed the story until it ported me to a new area, and I started to think that maybe I need some more HoT skills before I proceeded.

So I started spending some more time in Verdant, both working on some map completion, events and the story (through HoT.6), and now I find myself in Auric at HoT.7.

So my question is, do I need to completely ‘finish’ things to a certain level, or ‘train’ to a certain level back in Verdant before proceeding with HoT.7, or is the story such if I wanted to push finishing the HoT story, and whatever zones it may take me, I can follow it along to the end, and continue on through LW3, without having to complete all the maps?

I have Glider Basics, Updraft Use and Bouncing Mushrooms. Real close to getting Itzel Lang. Exalted just opened in Auric, but of course, I have nothing in that yet.

Hi

It’s been a ‘really’ long time since I played, and was wondering if someone could remind me what a simple, cheap, easy (one or all of the above) thing to create in the Mystic Forge would be to complete the daily?

I used to do it without thinking, and I can’t remember what I used to do when this one came up. I tried looking through all my old posts, in case I asked the question before, but couldn’t find anything, at least under ‘mystic’.

Thanks.

Why did they make Maguma so hard?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I find it hard. I really enjoyed the first three years, but knowing that the story now, and everything else moving forward is going to be behind this second, harder game, it’s disheartening.

I’m getting my login reward and doing some of the old world bosses I used to like to do and trying to get the daily done (though that’s harder with a few key WvW options being broken, and I … just don’t do dungeons and fractholes, never have, except to get my Mawdrey II, but it was enjoyable), but I’m not entirely sure ‘why’ I’m bothering to do that. Before HoT, it was something to do while awaiting the next big story pieces. Now with HoT not being very enjoyable, it seems like there isn’t a ‘next’ for me.

And, perhaps that is fine.

Plus I gotta get some more tokens for pet furniture and get more cats, so … yeah.

I consider myself a fairly decent player, and I just find it hard. There this one frog person I can’t even fight because he evades all my ranged attacks and I’m a staff elementalist spec’d for water, arcane and air…because I like it, and it’s fun, and that’s what I want to be. It reminds me of the original Orr, which I couldn’t stand, and ran through as fast as I could for map completions and never went back. Orr is a lot better these days, but it’s still a depressing place.

I’m only in that first jungle place in the new world, and it’s just confusing and tedious and bothersome and just not really fun for me.

Not to say there’s anything wrong with it, if everyone is having an awesome time and enjoying it, that’s great, but let’s not pretend it is not a ‘vastly’ different experience than the original game, meandering around from zone to zone care free, completing hearts, stopping on vistas high on peaks to get awesome screen shots from the snowy peak looking down to a town on a lake.

Well, I digress. I think at this point I’m going to knock out bothering with the daily 10 AP points (I mean, they run out at some point, not sure why I’m pushing it every day, and they don’t buy me any masteries or anything) and just get my login. Still looking forward to playing with the holiday stuff, though I don’t suppose there will be any fun outfits to my taste. More money to set aside for outfits where I find myself spending more time these days anyways.

I’d posted in someone’s “are you sad you pre-ordered HoT” thread that I ‘kinda’ was a week or so ago, and now I think I’ll adjust that to maybe ‘pretty much’. I’d love to have some sort of epiphany with HoT, but thus far it’s just not happening for me. Which is sad, because I liked the core game, and will miss my characters, especially my main.

I don’t know whether it’s a bug or some sort of intentional effort to make playing in a new area not confusing for America and NASCAR and new players but you can’t see the SB pres while standing near where SB spawns any more. You have no idea how the events are going, if they are being cleared.

Further more (and I don’t think SB is the only one that has this problem), SB’s event window with his health bar (that you can click on to target him) doesn’t come up. I think Maw might also have this issue.

At least, I really hope it’s a bug and not blah blah healthy blah appropriate blah immersion blah blah new player experience.

It has to do with two things. Shaders and the Mouse.

With the mouse, when you hold the right mouse button to look, the cursor doesn’t disappear like it should.

With respect to Shaders, with them on ‘High’, the ground is all black. I have to set it to ‘Medium’ to see things.

I would be happy if ANet could just make Common Clothing Tonic into Common Clothing Outfit (Cultural Outfit?).

If they do it for one, they can do it for all.
No half-hearted efforts!

According to the wiki, there’s around 17 tonics that could be converted.

The problem with tonic conversions is they created a ‘terrible’ one for the gatherer shorts. It has like giant moon boots and a big ugly shirt. Which…was what was so great about the mix-n-match system.

I’m offering to pay them money to create an outfit out of 3 old pieces of mix-n-match I had put together.

Well, to be fair, it was probably certainly what most people posting in those types of threads were agreeing on, but for casual players, they probably didn’t bother saying anything, figuring since the game to that point was really focused on casual play, the posts for harder content would just go the way of the 2000+ post threads on mounts or other things that wouldn’t likely happen.

I’m struggling with the new content as well, but I can’t really complain about it per se. I’m mostly just sad, so I’ll do what I can and if it becomes too frustrating, I will just stop, I guess.

You will need the first line of Exalted and Nuhoch (poss Itzl too, I forget) to progress the story.

Personally I got gliding 1 & 2 and mushrooms finished first before I did those. Updraft is more useful outside of story stuff imo.

There is no trick, although there are “farming spots” (HP trains, dungeons for Tyria Masteries). It took me a week to get to 16 with a casual mindset – ie doing early story on multiple toons and events as and when they came up, It only becomes a grind if you focus on levelling the mastery. If you just play all aspects of the game, you will quickly level multiple masteries early on.

That was my original plan, and I guess I’ll just stick to that, thanks.

notebene.3190

First, wasn’t the purpose of that forum to discuss (as the description said), the ‘upcoming HoT expansion’? Now that it’s here, it seems confusing to have two General forums, no?

Second, I do have a couple general questions mostly pertaining to HoT.

Q1: I’m going kinda slow, only M2 (I guess?) and was wondering if there was any way to use any Tomes or Writs or anything to help with that? Or do you just have to grind out the events? I didn’t start right away, but I am seeing people (2 weeks in) in their 20s, 50s and even 100s! Is there a trick to that?

Q2: Seeing as I’m going so slow, is there a ‘best path’ to follow in picking masteries as you are trying to find your way through VB the first time? I’m at about 36% complete is all. Did the story intro and then helped the frogs defend their home, waiting at ‘In Their Footsteps’, and not in a particular hurry to rush the story, but also don’t want the story to be the thing that’s slowing me down. I got ‘Glider Basics’ and ‘Bouncing Mushrooms’ with my first two and was working on ‘Updraft Use’, but then wondered if I shouldn’t be doing ‘Itzel Language’?

They most likely won’t do that because then players wouldn’t need so many transmutation charges which can be found from the gem store.

I remember complaining about what this would cost us when the consolidated the charges to one type and then only offered 1 per map instead of 3 of the old ones, and because of the additional ones they give as login rewards (and all my characters being 80 at this point, except my not-yet-created Revenant), I’m finding my charges going up and having plenty to burn on ‘whim’ changes (like using a different staff skin just for Halloween).

Having said that, it’s a good point, but they could do something like make it a ‘significant’ burn to create one, like 10 or more.

Move the key to somewhere you are unlikely to hit by accident. My walk key is the ] key at the far right of my keyboard. If you have to move your hand way over to start walking you’ll only do it on purpose and if you’ve forgotten, hopefully by the time you slow walk to a fight you’ll know it’s on.

Accidentally was just an example (it happens to be one of my many mouse buttons, for a reason, as there are some things I do where I actively toggle it as part of the encounter). There are occasions where I use it to position myself in a certain spot before a big fight, and I just plain forget to turn it off before the fight starts, and then find myself walking instead of running at certain points and it’s a … mild pain.

And if it takes longer than it took us to have all these posts, then it’s really not worth doing. Just, if it’s easy, and someone is already near it doing something else, or yada yada, it would be nice to have. Not making a “4th Gen Design” suggestion, just thought of something nice to have, if it’s not too much trouble.

I’m not suggesting they take 20 developers away from coding “Encounter At L33t D00dz”, just if it’s easy and someone needs something small to lump in with 20 other small things they are doing.

I find myself in situations where my camera is zoomed out as far as it can be and I’m in a big zerg fight and the FPS is low and I can’t really tell where I am in the horde when it would be nice to know if I had left it toggled on or accidentally toggled it on.

A little icon somewhere, like the little boon/condition icons, that let me I have it toggled on.

Unless it already exists and I don’t know where to look? :\
