I found the place most toxic people gather

I ran across this a few months or so back. Same thing, map clearing and leveling an alt. I didn’t know what they were doing, so I asked one of them, and they never responded.

I asked out here, and some people responded explaining what they were doing. So I alt-tabbed back and finished up the heart on the little island staying away from where they were playing. Never did hear back from the person I asked in game about it, but they never harassed me nor I them.

No point of my post other than to document a different experience where everyone got out OK.

Did you leave a really long time ago? Before the wardrobe and the new player experience? The latter explains why you have to buy or quest for traits. It’s possible all the cultural armor that you bought are all skins now that can be applied to any existing armor with transmutation charges (the other two types are gone).

If you are returning from a really long time ago, there are a few new systems to get used to.

The reason it’s needed is because there are options in the right pull down menu that you might use that are right next to block. A tiny tiny movement has you blocking someone instead of say inviting them to the guild. I’ve accidentally blocked friends and didn’t realize with with the current system.

On a related note, this is why they need to have one on the “oh my god what did you just do to my bags!” button (or maybe it’s called auto-sort or something?) that I sometimes hit depositing all collectibles. And then I get to spend the next 20 minutes putting everything back to the way it was.

As a side general comment, it was a really nice idea for a weapon skin for that weapon. They could do a lot of fun things with focus, torches and shields that are non-traditional and fun. If they ever give us a whip, they’ll have to make ‘something’ a chair.

Love it.

Don’t really use focuses, ATM, so haven’t bought it yet, but still.

Exactly where I’m at. Makes me consider maybe changing someone so they ‘do’ use a focus. I’ll probably get it for sure if it ever goes on sale just to have the skin around.

the portal for beta

That’s why I haven’t participated, and why I approached my legendary weapon in a fairly ‘hands off’ way. I did a few pro-active things, but at the end of it all, I didn’t end up thinking about it too much and grinding up T5 to T6 and that sort of thing until I was about 90% completed.

When you are selected, also subjected to RNG, to participate in a beta from a pool of people, it’s a nice surprise. Like when you wake up one day and realize you are 90% of the way done with your Legendary.

If you have a chance at being selected, also RNG, but only if you actively go out and try to roll your own number, it might end up being really disappointing, because the RNG is in your face.

The problem for us is there is no way to get a ‘nice surprise’ invite.

Having said that, their approach might yield them (and I stress…might) better testers, as sitting out there for hours a day trying to be Charlie and get in the factory demonstrates you at least have the time and drive to possibly knock about in beta more.

In my case, it’s probably good that they weed me out of being selected that way, because in all honesty, I wouldn’t spend that much time there and probably wouldn’t be a good tester like I was in the old days.

So instead of players taking an active role to get a closed beta key, it is better for them to RNG emails from a list of potentially dead accounts? Access that could have gone to active players instead?

I’m sure they have a way of telling if you are active.

Getting an email as the result of RNG takes no effort on my part. This seems a bit more like the Hunger Games.

while I’d like to see the animations return, I do NOT see a reason to attempt and elevate this above the “annoying” status it deserves. If it truly effects your “game play”, then there are other personal issues you may need to consider addressing.

Asking what the status is (without the demanding, petulant tone) is certainly acceptable.

I wonder where the line is that makes elevates stuff above “annoying” and i also wonder if we shouldn’t just play with stick figures since that would also not be game breaking and it would not affect game play eh?

Seriously, these things are part of the “living, breathing” blabla they said they were trying to create. And if “small” things are not affecting your game play then why even bother?

Besides, most of the demanding tone comes from the method they’ve handled this “issue”.

Also… i’m sure that you are not the authority on what passes for more than “annoying” and what does not – for everyone else. Or what is acceptable.

The line is very definite and obvious. When it actually changes the game, in a tangible way, it has crossed that line. This is not that.

But isn’t that the great irony though? If idle and running animations don’t affect game play, why was the former was turned off at all (either on purpose or, as we’ve been led to believe, as a bug) and the latter purposefully modified to something entirely different, presumably spending a fair chunk of person hours there?

Or is it that a few people wanting them off/changed is game breaking and affects game play, but the people who enjoyed the original design concepts and intentions from launch wanting them back are only asking for something that is a small annoyance?

How does the one thing get to be two different types of things depending on the side of the fence you are standing? Is that how we end up with some old guy bringing a snow ball to the office to show us why global warming isn’t real? O.o

I think you’re misunderstanding. It was turned off because that was easy to do, since it isn’t a priority, but does still need to be fixed (I guess.) Whether it’s on or off, though, it’s just an annoyance, it’s not something to get bent out of shape about. It just isn’t worth it. If it exists in the game it won’t change your gameplay. If it remains out of the game it won’t change your gameplay.

They decided they didn’t want it to play during cut scenes and they made that be a thing. While it’s off it doesn’t play during cut scenes. They’ll get around to it eventually (probably, maybe.) Until then, get on with your life. Say you think they should turn it back on, and get on with your life.

If it’s just an annoyance, then leaving it on and ‘not’ flipping the switch until they had a clear path to do everything in one shot would have been an even easier option.

The fact that they did, meant that it was really more than just an annoyance, at least for someone.

If it’s all just an annoyance, why does the person that said it was ‘immersion breaking’ (and I won’t get started about all the things in any video game that are immersion breaking, it’s all just a matter of degrees and opinions) get the upper hand? Why does there annoyance out weigh me now being annoyed after 2.5 years of being perfectly happy?

If it’s all just an annoyance, then they should have responded to the person who, apparently, was bent out of shape enough to get it changed, by saying, “Yes, we can turn it off, but many people enjoy the idle animations and have for 2.5 years. It’s on our plate, and when we can get a real plan about how to solve it all in one shot, we’ll be sure to get it in. Thank you for understanding.”

You are making my point by blowing this entire issue SO far out of proportion….I support the animations being put back in (we want the same thing), I just don’t see the NEED to be rude and obnoxious about asking where Anet is with doing so (or with other players that question why being snotty is a requirement to ask the question).

I guess there’s the first part of your original comment and the second part.

I suppose we can all agree that whether something is a game play issue or simply ‘annoying’, we should probably not be rude regardless. Certainly something that is a game play issue doesn’t warrant a little extra rudeness leeway?

More to the first point, my response was directed at that, not the rudeness comment.

And it wasn’t in rebuttal to your comment, so much as a great opportunity to maybe dig a little bit about why it was changed, because it seems a bit related, at least possibly, no?

“I do NOT see a reason to attempt and elevate this above the “annoying” status it deserves."

That was my whole point. If the idle and original running animation are, as you saying, simply of ‘annoying’ status, then they didn’t warrant the attention that was put into removing the former, and spending labor altering the latter. As they went out of there way to change them, it seems that perhaps they are, to someone, whether internally or through some quiet communication stream (I’ve said this before in other threads regarding this, I totally missed the 1000+ post “Thread O’Outrage” that usually drives a change like this), more of a ‘game play’ or ‘game health’ issue (I’ve seen the terms healthy and appropriate come up before, though with respect to the outfit vs mix-n-match system, but it’s all related).

Now, they responded to the idle one, I suppose. Told Gaile to tell us it’s a bug, but low priority. After they ripped it out. You know, I remember after the last big patch, we had small patches every day for 10 days fixing some little annoying things like hearing other people’s voices. Didn’t affect game play, just annoying.

They have ‘never’ said anything about the original running animation, though I suppose someone will throw out ‘clipping’ at some point and wash their hands of it. And talk about annoying vs game breaking. I’ll refrain from a screed on the ‘clipping’ camp. More harm than good.

So, I completely lost my train of thought, because I’m writing this and alt-tabbing out to read and respond to some other things.

Oh yes! The intention of my thread wasn’t in rebuttal to your comments at all! It was a nice spring board to say, “‘Annoying vs Game Play’…yeah you’re right! And if that were true, then why did they bother to begin with! Hmmm”.

Honestly, I wish we just got that…that word over that way (<-) at the beginning…honesty. I don’t believe the bug. I don’t believe clipping. I think it’s closer to the healthy and appropriate words that were floated in the big outfit thread. So just come on out and lay it out. “The original designers made the game a certain way. We sent them to a special camp so they don’t do that any more. Our thetans are…uh…high? (I don’t know what thetans are supposed to do) now and we’re all healthy and appropriate so we don’t have to fight them over here.” Then I’d know who they are, whether they believe in choices and options or whether they are just taking it all away, and I can decide whether I would like to continue supporting them.

But yeah, you want them back, I want them back, no harm no foul. And again, not disagreeing with you, just taking your response as an opportunity to expound on my screed.

And hopefully I don’t get scolded again. I’ve got a moderator stalking me.

I can see it now: HoT comes out and animations are a gem store item…

Honestly, I’d be pretty happy with this. As well as my old running animation and the ability to pay $100 to have them stitch together an outfit out of a few mix-n-match pieces I used to wear and pick what the 4 color channels are.

Unfortunately, this isn’t about money. It’s not about choices and options either. It’s not about balance. That’s unfortunate.

I’m going to guess they become Mystic Forge scrolls. They will no longer be skill points and Mystic Forge currency together, but a new type of currency that will be used to buy the items that skill point scrolls used to buy.

Hopefully it’s just as simple as that, and if anyone isn’t doing homework and required reading outside of work to keep up with the game short of, oh, playing the game and logs in months after this goes live and has all these old scrolls, they can click on them to obtain the currency.

Short of that, they really need to consider gathering up all the “here’s all the crazy stuff we’re changing, and things you need to do before [date], so you better login and do it, even if you haven’t been playing much, because if you come back, you’ll be meow-mixed” information and just send out an email.

Tomes of Knowledge vs Scroll of Knowledge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

notebene.3190

So what should we do with them?

I never used the Tomes much, as I really enjoy the leveling process, meandering through zones, doing hearts and clearing areas. Fine, I’m a freak.

But the Scrolls of Knowledge were key to keeping in ‘specific’ mats for the mystic forge on an ‘as needed’ basis. Those items don’t go in collections, so I don’t want stacks of them littering my bank.

I’m still not really clear as to what we then use to buy all the things we used to buy with skill points?

Re-Dye Hair Accessories

I had an idea a long time ago for a sort of ‘stop gap’ means of doing it without having to do something really big (at least, I don’t think).

If they could check when you use a hair style or make over kit, what was changed, and if the ‘only’ thing that was changed was the color of the hair accessory, then don’t burn the kit after the use.

My main happens to have a head band and it’s been blue, since launch. My armor was the same blue, I thought it was a good idea, figured I could change it later. Now I’ve gone through all sorts of armor colors (and holiday colors), but that headband is always and forever blue. Would love to be able to change that when I dye my clothes. If I could buy one hair style kit from the store and then use it to only change that hair accessory color without losing the kit, that would be pretty nice.

Random Minipets option

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I would pay gems to have an option to cycle minis, especially if:

  • I got to choose which minis are in the rotation.
  • I would pay extra if there were several possible rotations, similar to area-specific playlists, e.g.:
    • No mini in WvW/PvP, since they make stealth far less useful.
    • Only minis that can swim, when underwater.
    • Ideally, different minis for dungeons and open world.

The OP’s idea is a neat idea, and while I most likely wouldn’t use it if it rotated ‘everything’, your first bullet is spot on. If I got to pick, for each character, the pool for the rotation (put checks on each one) that would be kinda neat. Would love for my pet to auto-hide in WvW for me. Would also love the option to pick a water pet that comes out, in the event that my land pet can’t swim (rather than a random rotation, just a land and swimming ‘alternate’ – but the original pet stays if it can swim…though why they made some that can’t swim that are basically the same frame as other pets is a bit beyond me, but I digress).

I like the new system overall myself.

The only thing I don’t care for is some of the pairings. I wish there was a dungeon/fractal category for people that enjoy that, and the general one had ‘no’ fractals. I always hate the days when I login to see as the general choices:

1. Fractals
2. Mo Fractals
3. Be a fract-hole! Do a Fractal!
4. Mystic Forge

o.O

Now, I manage to get around those days by doing some WvW, some of which are very easy, even if you fail heinously (and make yourself a nice snack for roamers to gnaw on between proper meals). Getting a guard count or securing a flag are pretty easy. Killing one of the vet monsters. Buying that last thing on the last page for the big spender. They make great fillers. Often times I’ll do some extra WvW steps even to avoid the specific zone event clearing tasks (which…would be nice if they were ‘regional’ like the gathering ones rather than zone specific, but I digress).

My concern is that the new “WvW Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome X-Game Mtn Dew Kek Pew X-Treme (now with Retsin, and Doppler 9000!)” will make those harder to do, and then I’ll just not get to do those days.

And is it me, or on days where you have to gather resources in a region, they are suspiciously ‘really’ far away from where the world boss spawns for the lowest area (i.e., SB in Queensdale on a Kryta foraging day)? For once, I’d like to see SB yell out as he dies:

“My…only…regret…was…never…becoming…a gardner!”

(plants 4 onions really quick and dies)

Now that would be something.

Happily pay to have that back as something I can re-apply with a makeover kit. Or better yet, we buy different running and walking animations and activate the one we want.

Bonus: I don’t see my staff clipping anything. Stowed 6 in in mid air above my back like every other game.

3,4,5. Clothes and emotes!

Bonus: Giant candy corn I mine in my home (which, isn’t my home, it’s really some Norn’s home, I think, and we all have the exact same homes and family) in case anyone wants to talk about running and emotes not being realistic.

notebene.3190

I do not have a problem with the running animation but removing the idle animations was unnecessary. The way it’s been handled ever since speaks volumes.

I do have a problem with the running animation change, and if it was all really about people being offended by the run itself, they should have gone the route of monetizing running as a character trait, sold them, problem solved. Everyone gets to run how they want.

One may not like how they run and choose the other, some of us would choose the original. Would anyone object to letting people pick which they prefer? They are both still there. All they have to do is make it something we change, like a hair style, and we’re off to the races. Skipping Asurans. Could be fun.

Same could easily be done with idle animations. Make each one a separate thing we can activate and deactivate in the random rotation of idle animations a character has. Like picking a mini or a finishing move, but you get to pick many, and buy more. Flipping a coin? Could be fun.

I don’t see why any of this has to be either or, a pendulum, a see-saw. Everyone can get what they want and choose what they would like to see.

The strange thing about the running animation was, that two-handed weapons behaved oddly (staves bugged into the skirts and greatswords span around the right shoulder).
They tried to fixe these bugs (stowed two-handed weapons still don’t look good while running in the “new” animation) but did not restore the running animation itself.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/2handed-wepons-clipping-characters/

But what’s odd about that is they could have ‘just’ focused on placement of the items themselves. They did that with storing single handed weapons at our sides (they used to be nice and close, they moved them out), they could have done the same with the other.

And the whole clipping thing. I just don’t get it. Never bothered me to the point it seems to bother some folks. People love to talk about clipping. See it all the time in other game forums too. Never bothered me seeing the staff through the skirt.

They won’t consider fixing it unless it is more trouble for them to leave it the way it is.

Post on other popular forums and rally support. They won’t fix something that isn’t causing them to look disorganized or lazy on a massive scale. Constant exposure will be your best bet since the latest update we have is that we have no update.

If that’s true, then why did they put the effort into changing the running animation? o.O

They did not “change” it. It’s just the male animation. (^.^)
Just like the male norns now use the female longbow animation (and still no fix).

But it took some level of effort to do that, when it was fine the way it was, and they could have literally spent ‘0’ effort in both cases (running animation; idle animation) and everything would be fine.

So, it would seem for, shall we say, certain types of things, no level of effort will go unspent.

Usually you see a change after a 1000 page post about some great hax or sploit(zors[kekpew?]?) affecting ‘teh balanz’ or ‘teh meta’…

I don’t remember the 1000 page outrage post that led to the human female running animation being changed? I’d still like to know what that was about, they never said. They gave us healthy and appropriate taglines in some of the responses to the outfit system, maybe that’s the same answer for the other?

Which just makes me wonder (besides not jumping on amazing opportunity to make running, walking, idle animations, emotes things you can buy and ‘add’ or ‘activate’ on your character and monetize it) why not put a setting in the options menu:

[ ] I don’t like things that upset me.

Then you can see the man running animation (if that’s what that is) and no idle animations and it will hide anything else that is bad and show you something else. If that’s too broad, and there needs to be more categories, then by all means, make more categories.

Mine will all be unchecked, and I’ll still cross my fingers that they either give me my individual clothing pieces back some day, or let me pay them to take the 3 pieces I want, along with 4 channel color suggestions (plus a possible 5th static one), and make it into a new (old) outfit for me.

Zergs out of control?

In fact that might be the best solution, a chat command (or even a button on the Menu) to switch between servers to find one better suited for you (like when you get stuck in a SW instance with people farming chests and you want to do the meta-event.

That’s sort of an interesting idea. What if they had a place they could put some meta data that defined ‘something big was going on’ for that area. Could be that the zone is tagged for the entire day as something that needs to have events completed, or it’s around the time of a world boss (+/- time around the event). During those times, it makes some different decisions about closing empty instances and asking you to leave. Rather, we all have a setting that we can set to indicate how sensitive we are to zergs in outdoor areas. Two (three?) settings. If you don’t care, then you get what we have today. If you indicate you are sensitive, you get an indication that the map is breaking your threshold, and would you like to move (reverse empty instance message). If you select yes, anyone in your party can then join you, if they choose, or disband.

They’d have to come up with some threshold numbers. There might also need to be some sort of ‘escape’ rule to not spin up way too many instances if the entire player base says they are sensitive to zergs. Though, that would be some interesting information (I actually kinda like all the people myself).

I suppose there are hardware issues. I’d be curious to know if mega-servers allowed them to reduce hardware or if they ended up having to add hardware. At any rate, something ‘kinda’ like that might be an interesting way to handle it. I wonder how many instances are fired up now at each WB at peak times as it is now? I wonder how many more would need to spin up to handle a setting like that?

For what it’s worth, that worked as hoped. Not being terribly picky about what they are called, I selected all the existing ones in explorer and renamed them ‘a-gw2’, which produced ‘a-gw2 (1)’, etc. Took some new screenshots and it started over with ‘gw2001’.

This way I can keep my background set to use that folder, and it just keeps adding new ones into the mix.

I was using them all as my background in a slide show. I’m not sure if I can have one ‘set’ of backgrounds in two or more locations?

I wonder, if I mass rename them all to something else, and keep them in the folder, if the new shots would come in? Is it just looking for ‘gwnnn’ with the biggest number and trying to add one to that and bailing if it’s 999? Could I call them all ‘y2knnn’ and then it would start over?

Guess I’ll try that.

Ugh, I have 1000 screen shots.

Don’t suppose we can un-Y2K screenshots?

Has anyone experienced an issue recently where they are taking screenshots but not always getting them? Sort of hit and miss?

Edit: Now that I see what the problem is, it’s now a suggestion.

P.S. – Hope I don’t get another infraction for this.

Excited, especially that the last step will be soloable.

As for the section about “you just complete it in the next 8 weeks or something bad will happen to you”, that’s really confusing. I don’t suppose someone can throw together a little web page in the wiki or something that lets us plug in what the name of a story step is that we’re on, and it explains what is going to happen to us with that character?

I have maybe 3-4 characters at various stages in the middle of 6 and 7, few that are very early on (and probably won’t be affected), one completed (did the dungeon with a party), and one where I stopped at the last step because I didn’t really want to do that again (but now excited to). For the few characters in the middle of 6 and 7, it’s not clear to me what is going to happen to them.

But being social and asking them, and telling them how amazing they look could make them feel special. :o Don’t be shy.

While I’m not opposed to the OP’s idea, I always just ask, since it’s about the only social interaction I get in the game. Always happy to talk about mine, but I’m rarely asked.

I’m not a very big WvW player (though, there was a time a few years back where I did get into it a little bit, but was never very good at it), but I’ll do those sometimes instead of PvE ones because they are either fract-holes (which I like much less than WvW), or even some of the “4 events” ones are kinda a pain, and take longer than some of the WvW ones. Pretty easy to kill 5 guards or a caravan or a sentinel.

But I had a really funny experience today. Again, 4 events in Brisban. Blech. If it were Wayfarer, no problem. I did the mining one, that left Brisban, and something else, maybe today was a fractal day? At any rate, caravan and sentinel were there – perfect!

Head into EB, there is an opposing sentinel position just up the way. Ran up, engage the sentinel. Just then, 3 opposing players come and kill me. Oh well, happens. Not a big deal, find another flag, try again. As I was dusting myself off…shhpling!…completed! I got credit for killing for securing the position which I didn’t secure. You don’t normally get it until you stand in the circle for a bit, but since, apparently, I contributed to the ‘other’ team now getting the flag (they weren’t the same faction as it either, it was green, they were blue, I am red), I got it.

So there’s that.

Found a dolly around a corner, killed it, left.

Now to be fair, they did show us how to easily search for a term like ‘crafting’, you can easily do…

crafting -site:forum-en.guildwars2.com -r+m/2 method ^ max &alta-vista -grep -gnip -gnop #poundnothash -nowallys -someonewhouseselipseswaytoomuch

…which is pretty much the same thing.

Is crafting broken?

My first character wanted to ‘live off the land’ as I went, and I did it. Some thoughts on what it was like.

It took me awhile to get this when I first started, but gaining experience crafting is all about ‘discovering’ new things. You want to grind out raw materials into finished product when you can (logs to lumber, cloth to fabric) when they open for as long as you can get experience, but after that, you will get the most experience discovering a new combination of things to make. Discovery. Yes, there are guides out there for ‘crafting to 400’ and ‘crafting to 500’, but those are targeted more towards rich folks who are already at the end and are looking to catch their crafting up to make ascended. I’ve used the guides to help some of my alts finish up their crafting between 400-500.

As someone that was really interested in ‘living off the land’ with my first character, this game is a bit tricky with respect to that, being able to keep your crafting at your character level, so to speak. I did it, but it ended up dictating my play style a bit, as I’d out level zones. What I ended up doing was matching my armor upgrades with the zones I was doing without regard to my character level (as it ended up getting ahead of where I was questing as crafting provides a fair bit of xp too). If I was finishing a 30-40 zone moving to a 40-50, and my gear was only 30, then I might stop 3 levels before the end of that zone and grind out killing for materials to catch my crafting up to make my next gear.

That’s how I did it, it was fun for me. In hind sight, totally unnecessary. It’s probably more efficient to live off drops, karma rewards (caution: don’t put nice things in items you can’t salvage, lest you have to sell your first born child in the gem store to remove it), and the AH, and save mats until your collection is full, then sell them. You can then just use one of the guides when you are rich and famous at 80 to catch up the crafting and start working on the ascended gear. Even buying your first set of exotic from the AH isn’t all that much at the end.

But I did it on that first character, and no, it was never designed well to be used ‘as you go’ like in other MMOs I’ve played, where you can stop progressing your character at various times to catch up the crafting, make your next items, then continue adventuring.

[Suggestion] Town Clothes into Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

notebene.3190

I think it’s a good start, and better than nothing.

I’d be willing to pay them to design an outfit out of pieces I used to like to mix-n-match. How about that too?

You mean like, an item that allows you to stuff a regular set of skins into it, and creating an outfit from it?

Woah, that’s crazy interesting.

I just wanted to send them an email with 3 pieces I used to like to wear as town clothing and ask them to make an outfit out of it.

Edit: I mean, they made a tonic out of one of the pieces I wore as my outfit, but matched it up with a space suit for the chest piece and fishing waders for the boots, which isn’t exactly the look I was going for. So I wouldn’t want that tonic as an outfit. I want what I used to wear made into an outfit.
