I think it’s a good start, and better than nothing.

I’d be willing to pay them to design an outfit out of pieces I used to like to mix-n-match. How about that too?

Suggestion: player camera improvements

Requested Features List:
(Please note this does not mean that any of these things will happen, won’t happen, are planned to happen, and or not planned to happen)

  • Increase max dolly (camera distance) distance
  • Decrease min dolly distance
  • Automatic camera height adjustment on /sleep emote
  • Look at camera
  • Free orientation movement
  • Fix automatic camera height so that the over the shoulder camera works as it would be expected to work
  • Look acceleration toggle
  • Keep drawing mouse cursor when right clicking toggle
  • Keybind toggle for holding right mouse down / click once to toggle option
  • Keybind for look up and look down
  • ‘selfie’ mode
  • In and Out of combat camera differentiation
  • First person camera
  • Transition smoothing when spectating in PvP
  • Manual FoV adjustment
  • More finite dolly control
  • Manual camera height adjustment
  • Stop ‘random snapping’ from happening

Here’s the current list of things to address with the camera changes.
(Please note this does not mean that any of these things will happen, won’t happen, are planned to happen, and or not planned to happen)

  • Optimization to Camera
  • Camera Head Height Consistency
  • Underwater Vertical Slider Behavior
  • Fov on Login Reset
  • Fov on Pvp Map Load Reset
  • Engi Kits, Aegis and other effects do not hide properly

On the ‘/sleep’ one, I’m assuming that would include things like /sit and /kneel as well (which might actually need a higher tripod than sleep)?

Not sure if there is one there for more vertical control range? I’m OK with what is there now, though without the above one (changing tripod height based on standing, sitting, kneeling, sleeping), it would be more important for me. Having said that, if I ended up getting the auto-tripod with emotes, I could see others maybe wanting to drop the camera to the floor (temporarily) to film like a running scene from that perspective.

Awesome stuff, thank you for the changes and presence on the forums!

I’m reluctant to change too much to start, as I really wanted to do two things that were important to me:

1. Do I still need -useOldFoV? So far the answer is yes. Whatever it is that’s different about that, it means the camera gets closer to the character (before 1st person) and it gets more out of Zoom Sens.

2. Zoom Sensitivity: This is what I was waiting for. I was either staring at my back, or seeing my character from an ‘Earth Rise’ photo taken from the Moon. Ok, hyperbolic, but that’s how passionate I was about getting a more fine grained camera dolly.

So far, so good!

I see people with their FoV sliders all the way right, and that makes the world look really, really weird to me, but hey…that’s why we got lots of new sliders, because everyone is different.

ACCH [off] is key for me. Not sure what that was supposed to accomplish, but all my humans are as short as they can be and that launches the camera tripod way too high.

My hope is that they do two things:

1. Make ‘vertical’ work with far more extremes (tripod height)

2. Add a toggle for ‘Adjust Camera to Character Position’ (for lack of a better term) which would adjust the tripod height between standing, sitting/kneeling, and maybe even sleeping. It should honor the ACCH setting, so for those with it off like me, it would be lower than for people that have ACCH on (admittedly, I still don’t really know what ACCH was to accomplish, but I have it off.

First – bravo! Very excited about the changes, especially ‘Zoom Sens’, which was my only real need. It’s nice to play with FoV, but found I like the default.

-useOldFoV: I still use it! I tried without, but it’s still necessary, at least for me. I don’t care for how the game looks without it, and the camera doesn’t get close enough to a character without it, which then limits how flexible ZS is. So (hopefully) please keep!

Vertical: Much, much more. I don’t know how about ‘high’ it should get, but it should literally drop to the floor. You can’t kneel or sit and get a nice close up of you and a pet, for example.

Adjust Camera to Character Height: I thought maybe this would adjust dynamically depending on whether you were sitting or standing (as your ‘height’ relative to the floor is very different sitting and kneeling), but it doesn’t. It just seems to move everything up a half an inch or more. I resigned that this was made to solve something entirely different for other people, which is fine, and leave it off for myself.

Having said that, besides having more vertical control ‘lower’, it would actually be nice if there was a setting (but not lumped in with ‘Adjust Camera to Char Height’, b/c I don’t like how high it moves the camera up) that would “follow the character relative to the ground (sit, kneel, sleep) independently, but respectful of the ‘ACCH’ setting”, if that makes sense. i.e., let the camera ‘follow you down’ as you do those things keeping the same parallel plane to the floor based on what it’s focused on for either the ACCH on/off.

For example, if ACCH on is 6’ and ACCH off is 4’, then sitting/kneeling might be 1.5’ for ACCH on and 1’ for ACCH off.

Yay for Vertical Position, please more!

I need to compare some new and old screen shots, but does it seem to you, even with ‘Adjust Camera to Char Height’ off and ‘Vertical Position’ all the way down that the camera still seems ‘higher’ than it was before?

I could be crazy, I’m going to go see if I can prove it.

Update: Pretty sure I’m seeing something that isn’t there because I know something changed. Comparing zoomed in all the way with -useOldFoV (which still allows you to get the camera closer, so still useful to me) and UI off with the camera a similar distance from the floor and it looks like the distance between the top of the character’s head and the screen is the same in both. I think I’m using some ‘little bit more zoomed in’ options while running around, and it’s giving me the illusion that the character is even ‘less’ centered, which is true, when you are that close, but … well never mind. Nothing to see here. Please disperse.

Yeah, just came out here to comment on that. I heard ‘time to fight!’ just now, no one around me. Was in WvW earlier looking for a sentry to kill for my daily (easy peasy), and heard a ‘help me!’, or whatever someone says when they are down. Best I can guess, they were that group I passed a ‘really’ long while back.

Heh, and since I like to hear the game sounds while tabbed out, I just heard someone yell ‘assistance!’ Have no idea where they are.

I’m looking for herbs in Maguuma. If I hear ’I’m rich, you know!’ from Divinity’s Reach, we’ll know something is amiss.

I do wish you could get one or two more steps closer to the character before it collapses into first person view.

Or, with 1st person off, have the furthest you can zoom in get closer.

Update: Ah! -useOldFoV! Put it back. With that in place, you can get much closer totally zoomed in. Still very useful (hope they don’t retire it)!

My settings were the same after my adjustments and exiting and restarting, though my FoV is right in the middle. The only settings I really change are:

Adjust Camera to Character Height [off]
Rotation Speed ~25%
Zoom Sens – 2 notches to the left of totally right
FoV – 50% (I think the default is slightly right of center)

I haven’t tried that yet, but very impressed with the other settings. I went so far as ‘removing’ the old -useOldFoV switch (which I have been gripping white knuckled for 2.5 years, refusing to let go of it) to try out the settings without it. I like ‘Adjust Camera to Character’ [off], and my FoV is right in the middle, rotation speed is 25% (about where I had it before), but the real awesome change for me is getting to drag that ‘Zoom Sensitivity’ over 2 notches to give me a few extra places to leave the camera closer to the character. Perfect.

This is going to sound a bit passive aggressive, but at least know that I’m aware of it, and that’s honestly not my intention.

I have a 13th level Necro, that I think leveled to 9-10 and got the remaining 3 levels getting the WvW map done here and there over several months. I’ve been spending time finishing up some other characters, and doing some more map completion (4 finished now), but was hoping to continue on with the Necro (my 8th character, I have one for each class) after I finished up that map completion with the Guardian, which I just did a few days ago.

I hopped on today and realized it would be really nice to use the low level character to get settled in to the new camera as I’m finishing up Queensdale, and was a little sad about that, so I logged that character off.

I have other things to do. Working on achievements for weapons and mob kills and such, and other things. So, there was that. I think what made me think of it as I ran from the bank past the fish tanks to the center in Divinity’s Reach and remembered the stream.

Heh, oh well. Hopefully soon.

What part of this was aggressive? o.O

I guess as I thought of it sounded a bit like, “Well, I was going to enjoy enjoy playing my low level Necro while enjoying the new camera system, but seeing as it still isn’t out, so I guess I’ll just log out. Woe is me.” Figured I’d better wrap it with a little bit more ‘stuff’. I honestly just thought, “Hey, it would be kinda cool to enjoy a new character with the new camera changes, so I think I’ll wait.” That was all, I guess.

A new option like ‘block’ that allows people on a person by person basis to show them as a nameless, faceless thing in grey armor (like when there are way too many people on the map and people that are a little bit further away look grey) if you come across them and decide you don’t like how they look. That way no one would have to be offended by me, if they choose, yet I can see myself as I like. That way you wouldn’t have to block ‘everyone’, in the event you have a friend or family member that looks similar, because they’re just different (if the issue is really me in your immersion test).

That’d be a nice happy birthday.

I was drawn in by the openness of the game. No mob tagging, no resource node tagging, non-group grouping (everyone around doing the same thing is effectively a group, since there’s no monster tagging and you don’t have to do all that much to get loot, at least under normal circumstances).

I liked the heart concept very much.

I was drawn by the toons. They are a big part of whether I enjoy playing, if I enjoy how they look. Sadly, that’s been whittled away at over the past year or so, but I’m still hopeful.

I fell off a vista above a town with NPCs in it. There were lots of players there, finally someone came to rez me, but figured the NPCs could be trained to do it, because the last thing I’d want to do is disrupt someone’s day.

You do realize that waypointing within any city is completely free, right?

Not in a city. In a small ‘town’ or ‘fort’ out in the world. I was approximately 5 body lengths (in my dead state) away from the portal in town. Still costs me nearly 2 silver. But it’s not even about way pointing in that context as there I am, dead, in a safe little camp, lots of NPCs and humans standing around. Apparently they were either AFK or just couldn’t be bothered to rez me for whatever reason. So what if the NPCs could do it?

that all being said, AI in trinity games like Rift and WoW, still are far more challenging than any Mob AI in GW2.

In fact i would go as far as to say that Mob AI is more predictable in Non-Trinity MMO PvE than it is in Trinity PvE. We see a clear example of this by looking at GW2’s PvE content. The Bosses are very predictable, and the Mob AI is easy to exploit, which is the reason the glass cannon Zerker has been the PvE meta all along. GW2 Pretty much proves my point. ???

If that is all true, then why wouldn’t you want to go play those? Rift is only 4 years old, this is coming up on 3? It’s a very good game, I played for about 10 months or so. Even FFXIV bent to the will of the military industrial “we must have jobs!” crowd that were irritated with the clkitten, mix-n-match, UO-style ‘throw together and wear whatever you want’ types, and the managed to move that away from a more organic game to a rigid one in ARR.

Isn’t that the whole reason there are lots of different games, so everyone can find one that fits their play style the closest?

I’m assuming this is all just a rhetorical discussion of whether a trinity leads to more challenging AI, and not a literal call to change the game, even if it alienates myself and many other people that have grown to love a trinity-less type game? Especially when there are AAA titles that have that already which are very good games and not very old? I even think SWTOR fits that bill, no?

There’s always PvP? See how challenging that AI is? Fairly unpredictable?

You are deflecting now instead of addressing the debate. Thats somewhat trollish imo. Instead of doing that, how about you stick to the topic of debate which is trinity in regards GW2 improvement?

It doesn’t deflect it at all, if the question is really just an organic “does it improve it”. It does not for quite a lot of people that like how the game is built, and don’t require the AI to be just a little bit more unpredictable because the trinity is introduced. The trinity brings along a lot of other baggage with it that some of us are happy aren’t around, and are willing to have a little less challenging AI.

If the question is, “Will it make AI more challenging for those of us that want it”, yes, it may at that. Do I think it’s ‘good’ for the game? No I don’t.

I get sad when someone ports out on me trying to rez them.

While I agree with your proposed suggestion, I have to say that if you rez me and I port out on you it’s likely because you should be focusing on the battle at hand and not spending valuable time rezzing dead players.
For non-timed fights this is not an issue, but for timed events like Teq or Vinewrath, it is crucial that dead waypoint out and not waste other players time.

A simple fix for this issue would be for Arenanet to implement event credit for rezzing dead players. There would be people who go to events specifically to “rescue” the dead at that point.

I guess what’s funny is given no context for my statement about when I rez someone until they are naked, you assume it’s one type of situation. That type of situation that everyone gets all bent out of shape about. The context of my example of rezzing someone until they are naked is quite literally someone I just happen upon, they probably are AFK dead themselves, but I don’t know that, so I rez them, only to be back by later and see that person dead again, only this time, with one less piece of armor.

And the ‘port on me’ example is often where I see someone downed just fighting trash out in the world, I run as fast as I can there, don’t quite get there, they die. Might be a few mobs around, maybe I have to finish them first. Start rezzing them, and they are gone. Now, I ‘suppose’ it’s possible they had the map up and were looking around trying to decide where to port to during all that, but it sure seems to happen a lot.

Sure, I try to rez someone that’s dead in a fight, but never something that is so dramatic that my lack of participation brings the whole thing to it’s knees, like an easy world boss I’ve done a million times, and know when to avoid getting killed, but can pause to rez a little here and there between telegraphs until I get them (never something like Teq, but fear not! You won’t have to worry about me, I won’t be there! :p) Because I see that dead person and think, “Hey, maybe they just ran in and got killed and haven’t done the fight before and haven’t even tagged the thing yet.” My first impression isn’t to assume they are some mean, lazy person and I’m going to teach them some sort of internet gaming life lesson that they’ll flash back to at a critical moment in their life years from now (“I’m sorry! I should have used the way point!”)

Assume all the rezzing I’m talking about is passive, non-combat situation, non-l33t d00dz content, non military industrial complex, non-NASCAR type healing, if that helps provide any context of when it might be kinda nice to have an NPC rez me because people are either really AFK or can’t be bothered with my dead self.

On a side note, I am a bit perplexed at this. I honestly figured it would just roll right off and I hoped that a red person reading said, “Hey, that’s not bad, I’ll write that down for the dev team to mull over years from now.” It didn’t occur to me to preface this with some sort of “this isn’t about the rezzing and way pointing you all get mad about” disclaimer, but I guess it should have, I do read what ya’ll are talking about from time to time.

I guess even I was a bit narrow in focus when I posted, as I was lying there dead in the middle of a small town with nothing else going on and lots of people standing around and no one would just walk over and rez the dead person. Though, by the time I alt-tabbed back, someone was working on me, but I did wait a good 10 minutes watching people meander to and fro without even glancing over (not that you can actually tell if someone was glancing unless they emoted that, which would have been really insulting).

Another thought just occurred to me as I was reading some of the other responses to this thread: imagine the forum QQ that would spawn overnight as people demanded that healers and tanks get priority on full maps (ie at Teq time.)

“We keep failing because too many DPS and not enough tanks or heals can get on the map. There should be priority queuing for these needed roles for events. QQ.”

I remember the last time I played WoW, which was about a 10 month stretch a year into WotLK (which was a really good time; not what this is about) and the first two characters my friend’s helped me bring up were my Pally (they didn’t have a reliable tank in their little guild, or no one else would do it) and my Priest (which, they also kinda wanted because all they wanted to do was DPS and see how big their… numbers were).

Never much of a dungeon person (in any game), but eventually got really comfortable in those, uh, can’t even remember what they were called…one was like a harder Frost run or something and there were lesser runs? I got pretty good with my Tank and Healer with my friends to the point where I got comfortable queueing up alone. Always zipped right in.

Probably end up with a queue like that for dungeons. They’d probably have to yank something like Teq out of an open world setting to let raids of people queue for them. And then it would just be…WoW. Which…we have already.

The third I brought up was a Druid which I went DPS with (though had a healer spec too, but it wasn’t as good as my Priest). Went to queue one day…holy smokes. Zipping right in – not so much.

Because people don’t so much. I mean, completely out of combat, nothing at stake,

I rarely rez defeated (not just downed) people. More often than not, they are people who went defeated in the middle of content in which they should have used a waypoint to get back in the fight, but instead continued to uselessly lie down in the ground while other players carried them. The kind of thing that happens in Vinewrath, for example, and is one of the main reason that event fails.

So no, if you didn’t fell to death – if you rather fail to death – IMO, you should be kept dead or waypoint.

I fell off a vista above a town with NPCs in it. There were lots of players there, finally someone came to rez me, but figured the NPCs could be trained to do it, because the last thing I’d want to do is disrupt someone’s day.

Sorry my falling off the vista no where near whatever elite content you were doing made you only get a white champion box. I guess I wouldn’t rez me either.

Because people don’t so much. I mean, completely out of combat, nothing at stake, just…lying there dead in the middle of a town. People standing around, suppose some could be AFK. But not everyone.

I always rez. I rez AFK people until their naked. I get sad when someone ports out on me trying to rez them.

Yes, it’s less than 2s to use the portal. And repairing is free, and heck, I’m dead because I fell, so it would have been free under the old system. But that’s my 2s.

If I’m already playing (presumably, I have the Heroic edition, but don’t recall ever getting a free 18 slot bag), and buy the Digital Deluxe for 500 gems, I get 2 18 slots bags too? I don’t see that information when I mouse over it, or in the wiki (I don’t think)?

Edit: Well, I went ahead and bought it. Only got 1 bag. The guild and pvp xp was kinda nice, along with a few of the other things.

The bonuses are pretty meh. But if you’re a die hard collector mini Rytlock is pretty awesome. You can still get the Mistfire Wolf in game pretty easy and I never see anyone using it anyway… Banker is useless since the bank is practically useless, you can always run to town if you have to. Influence is irrelevant, as are the pvp rank points.

You can? I thought that was exclusive to buy those special editions?

Yes, the confetti mail carrier is today’s sale item (and it does have the timer on it). There was the finisher on Monday, wings on Tuesday, pig on Wednesday, outfit on Thursday, and then the mail carrier today.

Oh, forgot the finisher on Monday. That’s weird about the mail carrier. Could have sworn it just said ‘1 more at this price’ with no expiry.

Oh well, thanks again. Didn’t want to miss anything I might be interested in.

Is the mail thing today’s daily item? It doesn’t have a 24 hour timer on it? Was there supposed to be one today? Did I miss one?

Wings

Outfit

What were the other items this week?

How Do You Handle This?

Assuming your recollection of the exact chat wording was correct, what is more interesting to me is it says more about the GL seeing a double entendre where one does not exist. Could also be situation where this person’s own phobias and, let me see if I can get this word out without scratching my throat, values (reaches for a glass of water) dictate an entirely different guideline for lewd that, say, a rational person may have.

Doesn’t help you get back in the guild, but if it were me, he doesn’t sound like someone I’d want as my leader. Again, assuming all things are as they are.

Crystal Nomad Outfit in gemstore for 24 hrs

I like It. I would pay 1400 gems if it wasn’t an outfit. I just don’t like outfits. I’ve bought 1 and hated the lack or customization. Good style though.

I’d pay 2800 to have my old mix-n-match pieces turned ‘into’ an outfit (more if they’d bring non-outfit pieces back).

I would also like to remind people that the wings are not exclusive to this one-day sale and will, in fact, be back in the gemstore.

I guess that didn’t fit their narrative.

forget wings, it's all about the pigs!

He is such a cutie! It breathes, follows you around, even rummages with its tiny nose! Loving it. Hoping for more animals just as cute sometime soon again ^^

Could you do me a favor and see if it will swim with you?

the piggie is not afraid of water!

Nice. Might have to get him.

Does that mean on sale or leaving the gem store? It would be insane to remove them after a day – ppl can’t be expected to login everyday to know about these things.

Thats what we are asking for. An answer if after the sale period will be removed from TP or remain in a higher price. We need a Dev answer, no speculations…

Except that normally, when something has a sale price and a timer with the intention of the timer representing the sale price and not store removal, the price is orange.

The price on the wings currently is blue, with a timer, which would indicate that is the normal price for them, and the timer represents how long they will be in the store for.

This is freaking me and my friends out. Help!

I can’t resist, because I have a great example of this with a few in game screen shots from shortly after the game released in the Weyandt’s Revenge jumping puzzle in LA. The second is closest to what the color looks like in normal light (like say, Queensdale).

I think that ironically many of us who game didn’t find this surprising at all, as we’re used to being in environments where the balancing is forced on us.

Council Watch Faceguard
Sneakthief Shoulderguards

Flame Legion Leggings
Council Watch Boots

I like it with the APC. That came out great.

They could have made a lot more money off the mix n match. I believe I paid more than 800 for the gathering shorts, sleeveless hoodie and witches outfit (for the boots). I would have paid 800 each.

They could make a lot of money selling different running and walking animations. Maybe a limp or a skip. They can start by putting the old human female running animation in the store. I’d pay money to have it back.

They could make a lot of money selling idle animations and adding tech to make each distinct animation an account bound thing you enable/disable on a character by character basis. Maybe flipping a coin? Flexing? They can start by putting the human female idle animations in the store. I’d buy them back.

Sadly, it’s not always about money. There’s also the healthy and appropriate demon.

Or…they could add some more hazmat suits.

Interesting side note: Spell check suggests I go with mahatma instead of hazmat. When in doubt, Sanskrit.

Those are great ideas. Perhaps they could be incorporated into new Outfits? Say, certain Outfits you buy may allow for unique /emote commands!

No, I would want them to be independent things.
