Character stuck loading into zone

in Account & Technical Support

notebene.3190

I have a character that was moving from Black Citadel into Plains of Ashford and got stuck on the loading screen. I had to force close the game down. I restarted the game and played another character for 20 minutes. When I tried to login the other character after that, the PoA loading screen showed for a second, then it flipped to BC for a second or two, then ‘back’ to the PoA loading screen, where it’s once again stuck.

The game doesn’t show ‘not responding’.

As I’d like to play the character again some day, soon, and the complete loss of an actual place to track tickets makes that option unattractive (still waiting on a response to a ticket from 6 days ago), I was wondering if anyone has had something similar happen, and knows of any procedures to follow to get that character unstuck?

Edit: Covered in zones not loading thread. You may delete me.

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

If I recall correctly, this was a hot topic a few months ago, but the consensus was that 2 of 5 was too few, 4 of 5 was considered too many, and 3 of 5 would be just right. (Why does “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” come to mind here? )

Wouldn’t have been a very interesting story if the three bears vote kicked her before she invaded their home.

4,774 and got one precursor maybe 5-6 months into the game? It was on my first character and shortly after I turned 80. Was just learning how to do Claw, and I’m pretty sure ‘Storm’ dropped. People were linking exotics so I linked mine and (thankfully) someone sent me a tell after people were offering to buy it from me and explained what a precursor was.

I ended up selling it (which I’m sad about now), and for only 75g. Very different market back then.

But I saved up money and maybe 14-18 months in, I bought ‘The Legend’ for about 700 then slowly picked away at collecting the other things without focusing on it too much, and eventually got my one and only legendary.

Not sure if I’d do it a second time, or will have time to do a new one when the expansion comes out, but I’m interested in it.

I’m not sure if this is covered by ‘Manual FoV Adjustment’ on your list or not, but it would be nice to ‘not’ lose the “-useOldFoV” switch if any of these happen. I liked the original FoV and use that switch when starting the game (and thank you for providing it) and would hate to lose that in the process (unless that is what ‘manual fov’ means, to be able to set it to ‘original release’ mode).

kitten not coughing up Chest

Today, I logged in where I had logged out the day before, at the chest (I usually get the big chest after the event, leave the bonus chest unopened, and log out quickly to login the character at either Maw or Wurm, depending on the time), about 5 minutes before the event.

Like usual, there were lots of people waiting. I flipped my horn in, ran to the place to the NW to sell, and then ran out the zone portal into Iron Marches to the West of that, just in case, zoned back in, and ran to get ‘on station’ for kitten.

Did kitten, usual rotations, yada yada.

No event completion.
No bonus chest.
No visible big chest to loot (though the icon is on the mini map).

This is clearly some kind of bug, and it’s annoying. I don’t have this problem logging out characters near a world boss and logging them in once a day to do a world boss, just this place.

[Suggestion] Change auto-stowing weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

If they do this, they should make it a setting, because I for one would not like, and would love the reverse in many situations (like having to draw my weapons when I use a ‘speed’ power for travel).

While I’ll probably never see a solution like that, to meet your needs, they should put something in options that defaults to 30, which is the number of seconds to stow weapons. If you pick 0, then they never stow. If they can’t do that, then just a check box.

Too many times they ‘meet a need’ by taking things away from other people, and this is another instance where they could easily meet a need without changing how it operates for other people.

Just don’t use them. Simple. There are people, like me, who use them to save time on days when game time is minimal. On days when I want to feel the immersion, I have the choice to not use them.

That’s mostly how I play. Occasionally I like to get places quickly, but for the most part, I’m happy running, swimming, climbing wherever I need to go. Mostly because I’m that stingy.

Certainly seems like if it’s an issue of immersion for someone, they can just choose not to keep up with the Jones’ and just forgo using them. Everyone wins.

This may be helpful: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Personal_story#Navigation (Open the ‘Hide’ option to see all choices)

Good luck.

Thanks.

That’s what I was using, and I’m just now starting to write down all the heading information from each of the story steps in each character’s journal, which is tying nicely back to some of the information in the wiki.

One place that seems to not work out so well is Chapter 3 though. There isn’t enough detail there to make out what all the choices were and which I picked.

As an example from two different characters:

Character 1
The Orders of Tyria
Mortus Virge
Track the Seraph
Speaker of the Dead
The Queen’s Justice

Character 2
The Orders of Tyria
Brute Force
Track the Seraph
The Sad Tale of Ravenous
The Trap

Some are the same, some are different. I can’t tell which is which, and on some that are the same (like ‘Track the Seraph’), if it was a non-choice step that everyone gets or if I happened to pick the same one for those two characters, you know?

And then there isn’t enough information to be able to make sure I pick the right thing ‘on the fly’ so as to not mess up (messing up being missing the opportunity to pick something I haven’t done yet). If I’m in the middle of the story step and it’s asking me to pick, can I just ‘leave’, and then login the other characters to see if I can match up what my choices are with the logs at that point?

Probably a lot more work than it’s worth, but I thought it would at least be fun to make sure I’ve seen every course of action I can with the human race and the factions as I’m doing the story on some of the other characters.

Personal Story - Reverse Engineer Choices

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I have a few existing characters, some 80 and some younger, that I haven’t gotten very far in the personal story with yet.

While they are all human (except one, I know, boring), I was hoping to mix up my choices as much as possible with respect to the orders they are joining and the side missions and ‘advice choices’ (before you actually join an order).

Some are pretty cut and dry, like picking ‘nobility’ or ‘missed opportunity’. Others aren’t as clear to me as to what I picked. I’m reading through the Chapter 3 text on a character that had done it, and it’s not clear to me what the options were at each stage and which I had picked.

So I was wondering if there was a good way to somehow ‘reverse engineer’ the story journal such that I can figure out which choices I selected, and then some place I can go in the wiki (or elsewhere) to match that up with the choices available, so I can see what I’ve done so far, and then pick new options I haven’t seen yet?

I was looking at the wiki, and it doesn’t seem to have the detail ‘inside’ Ch 3 with the different options along the way (2 or 3 different things I remember doing)?

I was looking forward to that for my ranger until they changed how the short bow worked.

But did it really change THAT much in the scope of things?

The distance was kinda a big thing for me, as I really liked the sling shot.

But at the end of the day, I went GS + Sword/Horn with the ‘occasional’ swapping in of the long bow for the great sword if it’s a place it’s just safer to stand around and pluck from a distance, so really not so much for me now.

Always thought it would have been nice to keep the SB 1200 and go bigger with the LB, rather than reducing SB to 900.

But you are right, other than distance, it wasn’t a big change.

But what would be awesome is if we could use SB/LB skins interchangeably.

Well, the problem is – most players leave the map after Vinewrath. This results in near-empty maps where you most likely will land when you enter the map.
a) you wait till some players get the courage to capture the outposts and fill the bar, little by little. Very frustrating.
b) you look in the LFG system for groups like “SW XX%” (saying the current bar fill progress for their silver wastes). Those groups fill pretty fast!

Once you’re in a map with bar filled >50%, it will get rather fast, because many players will taxi in and help on the events.

I saw those, but didn’t know what they meant. Thank you!

I haven’t done much of anything in Silverwastes, save the story, some exploring, the jump puzzle. Haven’t spent much time with the achievements, per se (like I did with Dry Top), and have stumbled through a few events, but never really learned how to do it.

But now I’m at a point where I’d like to participate in (presumably) this but not really sure how to get started? I’m standing around where I think it might start, but I don’t know when it starts, and now I’m thinking that people might be ferrying people to special instances for it, and I don’t really know where to start or how to get involved.

I tried looking at the LFG tool, but honestly, other than maybe joining a fractal once or twice, I never was comfortable using it, or learned the etiquette of when to advertise, what to join, all the acronyms, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

I was frustrated with this fight for about 30 minutes of trying the final ring event until I finally, by accident, figured out how in the heck to finish it. Right after you run through the ring to get the fire, you hit the little shadow dudes (kill ’em in one swipe) and then run and light the fire. After I figured that out, the last part took me about a minute.

If I understand you right, the problem is that you won’t get the chest + bonus chest every day?

Because I’m doing exactly the same as you with some char (one at shatterer too) and I get each day the big chest an the bonus chest. I don’t move that far away as you and I don’t log in other zones.

Yeah, that’s the problem. Only seems to happen there, but it ‘might’ have happened once at SB.

I was told by a few people that it had to do with the Diminishing Returns code, which on the one hand is supposed to prevent botting, but it’s probably realistically more about artificially controlling the economy.

That is, if you stand in one place and kill mobs over and over again, they will stop dropping the nice goodies, unless you move for a little bit and go kill some mobs in another area, then come back and it resets. Not sure what all the mechanics are behind it.

If that’s true, and it is what is affecting my experience at Shatterer, then that’s just plain silly. The character logs in once a day to do nothing but that, so based on time, it should reset. It’s not like I’m killing him over and over again, every 5 minutes, for hours at a time. Once a day.

And, if it were true, then I’m saying it’s completely inconsistent, since it doesn’t happen at Jungle Wurm, where my character logs off at that Heart vendor every day, and pops in to just do the wurm. And that is much closer.

And it doesn’t happen all the time with Shatterer. It seems like it will go along just fine, then all the sudden ‘hit’, and the only way to clear it is to zone to the next zone to the west, and come back. If I do that, it clears it and it starts working again.

It’s annoying, and a bug.

If it’s ‘not’ a bug, and their intention is to ‘really’ have all the bosses behave that way, with DR rules annoying us, then it’s inconsistent, and they need to fix all the other bosses to force us to move.

Which…would be horrifying and silly, it’s got to be a bug.

Laurels.

In my quest to make my legendary weapon (which took me about a year and a half, by letting ‘most’ of it happen naturally), I found crafting the mystic clovers fairly easy. The only thing I had to go pick up from time to time were more obsidian shards, but always sitting on over 2 million karma, that was easy enough.

The laurels were great for ascended jewelry, and came in handy in my last ‘push’ to collect T6 mats (and roll up T5 mats).

Suggestion: Daily Reward Boxes UI

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

It would be nice if the box in the lower right looked different from the daily world boss boxes so we can tell them apart.

It would be nice if the interface to accept the reward out of the UI had one of those ‘open later’ arrows in the lower right hand corner, if we are in the habit of wanting to open all the rewards with a single character. You can get around it by logging out and back in, but not terribly convenient, and since the tech already exists…

Edit: To be clear, this isn’t about the daily UI that comes up once a day, which is a whole other need. This is just about when you complete a ‘step’, differentiating what the box looks like in the lower right hand corner, and if you click on that box, having the ability to ‘accept reward later’ (arrow) like some of the other reward chests have (like the AP rewards I think have it, as an example).

I have a warrior that has a nice set of ‘non-speed’ runes that I went with, and the only way I can go fast is to use a horn. It’s a bummer.

Having said that, I’ve lived with it for 2.5 years, I guess it is what it is.

Female human only has 1 animation now

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

notebene.3190

First, please don’t bump threads, Death.

Secondly, there isn’t an update on this right now. There are details in earlier posts (with the red flag) but, with regret, there isn’t any new information to share right now. I’ll check with the team to see if they have anything additional to add, but I don’t believe this has bubbled up to be at the top of the list quite yet.

But it was important enough to go to the trouble of turning it off? After working just fine for 2 years? Like the running animation before it, which someone went to a ‘lot’ of trouble to change. It wasn’t as simple as just ‘turning it off’, as was the case with the idle animations.

Respectfully, could you do two things for us?

First, could you ask ‘why’? In both the case of the idle animations and the running animation?

Second, could you ‘please’ pass along my idea to have idle animations and running animations be something that we each get to choose for our own character, like a hair style or finishing move? It would give everyone what they want for their own character, restore options that were in place for 2 years in the game (for those of us who enjoyed the old running and idle animations), and open up an interesting new thing for you folks to create and sell in the store. I bet a lot of people would love to add a ‘flipping a coin’ idle animation to their character (besides the issue with the human female idle and running animations that many of us miss).

Thank you very much for your time.

I agree from the standpoint that it was ‘too difficult’ for the year+ live team that’s in place to make old mix-n-match clothing to work in the new outfit system, because of gravity waves and reverse polarity, I’m not sure how they’d handle a new class of animations and getting them to work with existing outfits and armor?

That would presume a level of skill required to break idle animations into separate pieces that can then be applied to a character like a hair style or finishing move, though admittedly, it would have to work a ‘little’ different, as a reasonable consumer would want to buy multiple idle animations and then activate more than one on a character to randomly play from time to time, a pool to choose from. Best just to remove them all from the game.

Of course, they ‘did’ go to the trouble of ‘completely’ redoing a running animation, so there must be some level of skill there? Though, not enough to, again, add running animation as a feature that the customer gets to select for their own character, like a hair style. I assume they just took the old animation and threw the original developer’s work in the trash. That’s a real shame.

So I guess coming full circle, the question becomes whether or not they can make a new race that, when Jesus brings the Constitution down from Mt. Rushmore, does not make him weep for children and America?

Equality.

kitten not coughing up Chest

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I’ve posted about this before, and have been told it has to do with diminishing returns, and not ‘moving’ enough in between events. And yes, I can consistently walk to the zone, zone, zone back, log out, and be ready for the next time. That works.

The issue is kitten not always coughing up the chest and bonus reward as it should, or registering that I completed the event. Yes, I do enough damage, which is whole other topic of disgust which I’ll save for another post. Other’s have said it’s the DR code kicking in, and the only way to ensure it counts each time is to zone (sadly, a quick trip to WvW doesn’t count) in and out and that clears it. That method works for me, but is completely silly.

My problem is twofold if this is intentional.

First, it really has nothing to do with anything. I can see why it exists for farming the same normal mobs in an area, diminishing returns, love it or hate it, it has a purpose, and I guess it makes sense. But if they were ‘really’ looking at the activity of my character, it’s kitten. That’s it, for that character. It’s the character’s job. kitten. If their program looks at the activity, they’d see the character login, maybe chop some trees, log a few things, kill a mob or two over by the fort to the west, then run over and stand on the rocks and wait. Help kill kitten, run down to get the chest, immediately log out to login the character to do Jungle Wurm. Log back in after Jungle Wurm to run the warrior to town, sell, salvage, logout ready for next time. Hardly farming mobs over and over again for a specific type of loot that would warrant diminishing returns. Once a day.

Second, it’s applied totally inconsistently. I have characters that ‘sit’ near other places, just as close, in the case of Jungle Wurm, much closer.

kitten Route – this is the one that has problems, where I don’t get the chest every time, and yes, the daily reset has occurred. I do it usually at 6am my time every morning, or try to when it doesn’t stiff me. And yes, same amount of damage every time, yada yada yada.

Jungle Wurm Route – far closer, never have an issue with it not coughing up a reward.

If it were consistent, it would stiff me at SB after so many rounds, Jungle Wurm, maybe even Maw, though I ‘think’ that character runs far enough away (town to the SW) that it would count that as leaving the immediate vicinity.

So … yeah, this is, has been, hopefully not ever shall be, a real pain. Not shaking my fist at DR philosophically, but it’s picking up a type of behavior, apparently, that makes no sense to punish under DR.

Edit: ‘kitten’ is Shaterrerererer, but I didn’t feel like typing that out, and that’s also just plain silly.

You may want to make a separate combat chat tab if you dont already so as to not clutter up the other chat tabs. this will show the source of what ever is hitting you.

That’s a good idea, I’ll just set up a tab for that to see if I can’t identify it next time. Thanks.

I’m standing there now, and no flames are coming out of the ground attacking me. I’ve been there for 20 minutes. If it is those Foefire Flame things, they don’t appear every time. Like I said, maybe 1 in 10 times I’m there it happens?

I’m wondering of there is some sort of de-buff you get from doing one of those activities in another area that lasts for a period of time and draws them out?

Isn’t that those electric balls added with that past LS episode? Gee, I forget their name.

My money is on this. It’s probably like, Spectral Flame or something. They pop up out of nowhere and you can’t really do anything about them.

You guys mean this? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Foefire_Cleansing#Achievements

The areas covered by that don’t seem to cover where I’m at.

But, is there some sort of buff/debuff that people get on them that they ‘bring’ to any open event like that and anyone with that on them causes the things to appear and start lighting people on fire and knocking them down?
