Stop making outfits!!!

Stop making outfits! We cant pick and choose pieces to match with our armor sets, it’s all or nothing, and LOTS of people don’t like that.

That’s nice and all (and quite honestly, I agree), but as long as there’s a market for it (as in, enough people actually buying the stuff) I kinda doubt that you can convince arenanet to just… stop doing it.

Best way is to vote with your wallet and just not buy the outfits.

The problem is there are enough people on the healthy and appropriate train out there that are perfectly happy with the new pieces, and were the catalyst for certain pieces not being converted to something useful.

I’m sure they are looking forward to the next piece.

i dont see any reason that speaks against releasing it as outfit + armorsets

Clipping issues are one good reason.

having the set as armor even if quite a few combinations would clip is still 1000000x better than not having it at all or not?

I never got the obsession with the (teh?) clipping. It never bothered me before and even if I noticed it, I can’t imagine being so retentive that I’d be happy that mix and match is gone because of it.

Is it Botting, or exploiting?

I’m feeling a bit dense and not understanding how you are auto-attacking without being at the keyboard?

I know what auto-attack is. When you enable it on a skill (1 by default on weapons), that skill will repeat so long as you have a target, but once the target goes away, you don’t just keep standing there swinging, no? Don’t you stop?

And if a creature comes by and attacks you, you don’t automatically start attacking it back, unless you either target it first then hit your auto-attack skill, or if you have auto-targetting on, use the auto-attack skill so it becomes your target, at which point you continue to attack until you (or they) are dead.

So how do you put on auto-attack and then just alt-tab out and do something else? Or are literally finding another mob, engaging it, then alt-tabbing out for a few seconds, the alt-tabbing back, finding the next target, etc?

@notebene.3190 – When these camera changes ship your current setup will not be automatically changed. It is up to you to opt-in to the new features you want to use.

@Torsailr.8456 – As you increase the FOV of the camera the more of a ‘fish-eye’ effect you are going to get. The maximum FOV setting that these changes are shipping with are a happy medium between increasing the amount you can see and being ‘fishy’

@Fermi.2409 – Sliders are cool. Don’t stress about the numbers too much, pick an FOV setting that feels right for you.

@caiomacos.1694 – I hope that the changes we are putting out to the camera continues to show that nothing is ever ‘off the table.’

For what it’s worth, really appreciate the extra time you spent with us out here. Read the blog post and it cleared up quite a bit. Thanks again.

1. Guild Wars 1 is basically a huge maze because of terrain blocking. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have that issue.

This was one of the reasons I didn’t make it more than a week in the game when it was launched, nor out of the first leveling area, and went back to whatever else I was playing. It reminded me of the old afx slot cars.

Well, to be fair, other than providing stats, none of them actually serve any sort of utility purpose other than appearance. I mean, none of the wings let you fly, and no one can come up behind your book and start reading, right?

Post Ready Up: useOldFoV

notebene.3190

Alright. Sorry that I wasn’t clear on Ready Up.

The current Guild Wars 2 System calculates the FOV at 50 degrees on the horizontal.
Originally Guild Wars 2 calculated FOV on the diagonal. (You can still get to the old functionality by using -useOldFov)

When the new camera ships. You will be an option to modify your FOV with a slider in the options panel.

Hopefully this clears everything up!

Thank you very much!

Then that raises the next question: Can you then use -useOldFoV in combination with the new settings? If I want the FoV to remain as it is for me now (w/ that param) but want to take advantage of other settings (like, moving the camera vertically back up a notch; you folks moved it down slightly awhile back) and then taking advantage of having a more fine dolly control moving the camera in and out (or even first person)?

Will the -useOldFoV param knock out ‘just’ the FoV settings, or does it knock out ‘all’ the new camera controls?

@Branden (well, it works in the MH forums…), I don’t suppose we could get a break down of what settings we’d need to use to put our game play experience to what it is today “with” the -useOldFoV param in place, so we can have that on hand come 3/10 to hit the ground running (should we just want to get things back to that point on day one)?

I guess what I’m looking for is exactly that part of it: “Like That”.

I’m trying to glean from the few off hand comments about “50% here” and “50% there” what settings I’m going to need to apply come 3/10 to put me at a place where I’m at today, which is everyone else’s default…plus the -useOldFoV.

Yes, I could just wait and see, but I hate when a change such as this happens (in any game, not necessarily this one), where it puts you in a place where you either can’t play, or are uninterested in playing or can’t function properly, until some kind soul comes along after the fact (hours? the next day?) with some settings and screen shots and guides on how to fix it, or put it where it needs to be, yada yada, etc.

They talked about it, in passing, in the Ready Up. They even through out some real numbers. Clearly, that guy ‘knows’ exactly what all the sliders and settings and doo hickeys and knobs and weights and measures need to be set at to mimic what we have today…plus the -useOldFoV.

How about a little ‘clarification’ post or blog with some of that so we can hit the ground running 3/10?

notebene.3190

They mentioned it quickly, and I didn’t quite follow what they were saying. Something about how, by default, the FoV setting ‘now’ is 50% (of what, I’m not sure), and then they threw in something like “…and if you are using the -useOldFoV setting, your vertical (or was it diagonal?) is also 50%…”. Something to that effect.

I guess I’m trying to wrap my head around what I’m doing to need to know in a week and a half to get myself to a ‘starting’ position of “what we have now + -useOldFoV param”. They mentioned when you come in your will start “as we are today”, and then you can start making changes from there. That presumably means “where we are today ‘without’ the -useOldFoV param”, since most people probably don’t use (or know or care) about it.

Is there something special I will have to know to adjust to mimic or restore what -useOldFoV used to do? Or, will the new system, in some way, still honor the -useOldFoV param at start up, and then let you make FoV and other camera adjustments in tandem with that?

I never cared for that extra ‘warping’ of the world (as I see it), and I guess I’m just used to the old way of doing things (plus, I had gotten used to the FoV as it was before they made that first change way back when and added the -useOldFoV param). All I’m really interested in is more finite dolly control (which, they didn’t really demo or talk about, but that’s ok, they covered the big 3).

[Suggestion] Scout Tooltip

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

When you mouse over a heart, you get a tool tip that tells you the level of the heart. It might be nice to add a level or level range to the tool tip when you mouse over a scout to get an idea of the level(s) of heart(s) covered by that scout, in the event you are presented with multiple scouts progressing on a map and aren’t really sure which way to proceed.

I’m always reminded of this when I’m doing map completion (or a character on level) and I’m in Snowden Drifts. When you come in from Wayfarer, you are presented with quite a few scouts as you move in after the first heart, and it’s never clear whether you should go up or down first (assuming you are looking to do the zone in a level progressed order).

First person camera coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I’m excited for the change (mostly having more dolly control), but I’m concerned about what the ‘default’ setting will be. Presumably, there will be some way to set it to what we have right now, like ‘reset to default’.

Beyond that, I’m one of the few (only?) people who might still be using the ‘-useOldFoV’ switch to start the game. Some months in after release, people complained about the FoV (I never had an issue with it myself), so they made a change. For people that liked the original look of the game, they gave us the ‘-useOldFoV’ param, which still works today.

Now, if they ‘strip’ that out, then a ‘reset to default’ on all the camera options would, presumably, reset it to how it looks ‘without’ the -useOldFoV param, which then becomes problematic for me.

I took a couple control screen shots in my home instance. I don’t know if where I stood and faced and what I tried to use as control landmarks in the image are going to suit me well if on 3/10 I have to spend hours trying to get my screen back to what it looks like today with the -useOldFoV param, but it’s something I’m concerned about, and would really love some feed back on.

First person camera coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: notebene.3190

notebene.3190

I use the -useOldFoV switch to start the game to ensure it behaves as it did when it first came out, before the FoV change a few months in, which I didn’t care for. It’s not clear to me what the “default” is going to be on Mar 10th, and I don’t expect it will be covered tomorrow.

As such, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I might go about taking some control screen shots that I could then use as a guide to restore my game to looking how it does today with the -useOldFoV switch.

I love how everything looks now and wouldn’t want to change a thing, and would rather not be struggling on March 10 trying to restore it. I’m just interested in the finer dolly tracking for zooming I and out.

Though, it’s that way with a lot of weapons. After some of the beginning weapons, they start becoming Popeye’s forearms and fists, surfboards and med-evil floor lamps. Gaudy, I suppose is the word I’m looking for.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Am I the only one around here who doesn’t want those animations back? During the stretching animation, the textures looked stretched around the armpits. During the head scratching animation, half of my hands disappeared in my brain… They were very ugly. If they do give them back, at least fix these issues… Yuck…

If they made idle and running animations character traits like hair, and let us apply them, then you could not have them, and I could. We both win. They could also make new animations (flipping a coin, flexing, etc) that people might buy to apply to their characters. Or, purchase running/walking animation variants.

That would be OK, right? You most likely are watching your own character, and wouldn’t be upset to see someone else’s character stretching, even if it made textures look off (never noticed that myself)?

Well, they said they would fix it when there is enough developer time for it. Now apparently there isn’t a single developer who has time to set a variable to “1” instead of “0”.

Another option is that they lied, which is not something you should do when you are a game developer.

But they will use developer time to completely change the running animation?

It’s not about developer time, and that’s fine.

My only issue is there are ways to solve this so that everyone can have what they want, and they could make a little extra money on the side with more cash shop items.

Unfortunately, it’s being looked at as a pendulum and not something to be balanced or put in a state of equilibrium, where everyone has choices and options that suit them.

Yeah the “attent 2 games” achievement should be replaced by “win 2 games”…that way ppl would actually put a little bit more effort to it.

I’d be fine with that as long as there was another ‘third’ option. There’s already a wins option for people that like that level of challenge, and you don’t really have a lot of control over whether you will win or not (at least I don’t), so that would be take me several hours to luck into two wins.

The only time I suicide (or offer to) is if there are like 2-3 people there and not really any sort of game going on. Or, I join a game that’s 320-40, and there are two people on my team, and I’m one of them.

If it’s the beginning of the game, or I join a game that’s less than a 200 point spread, I try as best I can, usually trying to shadow someone else. I’m not very good at it.

Either solicit suggested combinations from the player base or go back to the (now archived?) threads with pictures submitted of town clothes to get ideas for looks people enjoyed having.

On top of that if it’s possible to hide shoulders and gloves on outfits, or at the very least sub in whatever headpiece we want, that would go a long way to restoring the old freedom of appearance. Not all the way, but still worth the doing.

As someone who played ArcheAge for a few months (before throwing in the towel after trying to carve out a PvE niche that would be fun, which ends up not working so well if you’d like to do a ‘little’ PvE content beyond 30), I had the initial frustration of not being able to just fly forever (learned that one the best possible way to learn it, it’s really quite funny when you hear yourself spontaneously let our your best Darth Vader imitation), but afterwards.

But soon after, really began to appreciate the mechanics of it, planning how far you can go, how much altitude you’d need to land, considering how much fall damage you could take if you might not make it, moving from mountain to mountain, etc. There is a lot more ‘flying’ with gliding than flying in something like, say, WoW, which is really just swimming in the air.

I’m looking forward to their implementation (and twists) on how that will work, and am excited to see how a very vertical zone will work out. Get some use out of those map layers other than The Grove.
