1. Healthy and Appropriate
2. Trinity
3. Involuntary Inspection
4. Remove all open World Bosses
5. Put all future content and World Bosses into 20 man instances
6. Remove organic non-party party from the open world. Whoever does the most damage should win. Sometimes I’m ‘late’ when I see a newbie killing a cow, but I want to make sure I’m the one that gets credit and the loot.
7. Resource nodes should be first come first serve.
8. Things that break my immersion should be removed (I’ve heard people say that’s subjective, but not the things I pick. Everyone would agree with mine. I’ve been playing MMOs for a long time.)
9. Collision. If you are trying to mine a node, my moment when I come riding up and hit you should bounce you out of the way so I get the node instead.
10. It’s hard to remember people we’ve helped in dungeons that were terrible. I don’t want to accidentally help them again, so it would be nice if there was some sort of in game, black list of players that aren’t as uber as me that we can share with everyone. You should be able to put yourself on the list if you just know, so save ourselves the trouble.
11. Mounts and Flying Mounts.
12. Guild Halls only. If people want a house, they should join a guild and follow my rules. Did I mention I have played lots of MMOs?
13. Anything worth value should drop in my new 20 man instances, and that should be the only place you can get it. We should be able to use trickle on economics to sell those things on the auction house to make more money.
14. What people really miss from a hard day’s grind of being trickled on, economically, is to come home and continue that experience in a video game. I see people posting about unwinding, but that’s not what a video game is supposed to be. At least, not the AAA titles that have lots of money behind it. Those should make the ‘Little America’ games I want to play, and the poor companies should make casual games where people get along with each other.
15. This one represents a moment of silence for the ones I can’t list because they’ve already done them.
16. Two words: Corpse Runs.
Playing Oligopoly’s Advocate (The Devil isn’t all that scary any more), sometimes people make assumptions to fill fact voids. Much, not all, of people making assumptions about things could be quelled by providing facts.
This is a general statement, I don’t know anything about that game or the developers, but often times we don’t get a clear idea of what a company believes in. Random changes with no patch notes. Silence when asked why. Silence when asked if it will be changed back. It’s too easy to put a tin foil hat on and assume, “They changed that because of [pressure from silent group A] and they won’t tell us that’s the real answer or whether they will change it back, because if they do that, then some of us leave, and they’d rather string us along as long as they can and hope we buy a few more things from the cash shop before it’s all over.”
When, they could just be brave and say, “We did that to make American safe for NASCAR!”, or whatever the reason may be, and we can decide whether we believe in that or not. There are lots of products I no longer buy after getting a clear picture of what the owner’s and/or operators believe in. No need to assume anything. “Oh, they believe that.” And then that works for you and you don’t post assumptions any more, or it doesn’t and you leave.
What do you have running in the background? 8 GB should be plenty of memory unless you have a memory hoggy program like iTunes running (which is poorly written for the PC) or Norton AV (or any of the other major AV programs – Kaspersky, comes to mind). Make sure you have the minimum programs running in the background.
Also AA is done in Cry3 Engine, which is a bit more portable than the GW2 engine.
Yeah, I have a lot of things running.
Overwolf is a separate Windows program that provides you with a in-game overlay. In order to use Overwolf apps, you have to first download and install Overwolf itself. Afterwards, you access its appstore from within Overwolf, find the app you are interested in and you should see an “Install” button.
All those apps are Overwolf apps, thus you have to install and use them from within Overwolf, no others browser in the world will be able to run them
Finally figured that out, thank you.
Now I have a new problem. I play windows full screen. When overwolf is running, the game starts and my character gets into the world, I hear the world sounds, but the area loading screen is still there, and the progress ‘circle’ in the lower right is frozen. I hear the equipment I’m standing near, hear the NPCs.
This happened to me once before after installing Skype for Desktop. Uninstalling didn’t fix that, had to restore from a Symantec back up. Very nasty. This I can at least close.
Also happen to be running Archeage as well as 4 instances Chrome each with 8-20 tabs each. Yeah, I know.
I’ll keep futzing with it. Thank you again.
It could be that ArcheAge is messing things up, can you try closing that and just running Guild Wars 2?
I’ll try that and report back. Now, overwolf worked great in AA running in a borderless window (using BLAA, I think it’s called), it just wouldn’t let me start GW2. When I exited OW, I could start GW2 with all that other stuff running. I might just be at a breaking point and pushing up against my mere 12 gig of ram. That would not surprise me in the least.
But I’ll try it nonetheless shortly and report back.
Edit: It’s running fine. Trying to start up GW2 after OW, Archeage, 4 Chrome browsers, each with 8-20 tabs, and all the other system things I’m running in the background, just too much for my 12 gig.

went to overwolf > TS | GW2 contest > daily doly > install
I don’t see that (screen shot above).
Is this like one of those things like the old Curse client where you had to install things through a central manager and I need to download the central manager?
Edit: Ah, that was it. Never mind.
(edited by notebene.3190)
hey! i’m downloading from overwolf it’s been “installing” for some time now… there is no progress bar ><
May I ask how you are downloading it? I don’t seem to have that option when I go to the page.
Hi,
All the awesome apps are already available on the Overwolf appstore, just look in the “TS | GW2 Contest” category.
The one shown in the tweet is called “Daily Dolly”, the app I myself made is called “GW2 Monster Hunter”, and there are plenty of WvW focused apps as well, just try them all and see what you like
Do, you have to use a special browser or not chrome?
I asked this question before too, and didn’t get an answer.
I see no big download button when I go there, just 3 images you can click on. A date, a version number. That’s it. It’s not clear how to download it.
I’d post a link, but it seems to be some sort of one time unid spun up when you go there, as you get a 404 if you try to copy that link and go back to it.
Very confusing.
Edit: This is what I see. Now what?
(edited by notebene.3190)
I’m not really understanding where I download this from?
http://www.overwolf.com/apps/tsgw2_contest
I’m feeling pretty dense.
When I apply a wardrobe skin to an item (in my case, I put a new skin on my shoes), the mini is unchecked, and the mini choice is reset to empty. You have to re-select what mini you want, and then check it on.
Very minor. Interesting, but minor.
While it also stands on it’s own and has meaning, I think it’s similarity to the Star Wars Galaxy NGE (New Game Engine) is a bit of a(n unwarranted) jab.
Thank you! Seems to be working much better. In the event that something happens in the world and they do need to be hidden from time to time, hopefully you are working on (or already fixed?) a better process to un-hide them without zoning once you move away from congested areas and/or people move on from a zone.
So now, many of the new features are great, especially popping the pet back up when you get out of the water (which…is a fair enough compromise, though I don’t understand why the puppy can’t swim when it’s probably the same frame as the mini lions).
Two quality of life things:
1. If would be nice to have a hot key that would toggle show/hide the mini. There are lots of times when I jump up on terrain where the mini can’t follow, and I used to just open my bag and un-summon and summon him again. Now, you have to go hunting in paper doll menus, and I usually keep mine on the equipment tab.
2. Speak of the equipment tab, it would be nice to have the same little icon and toggle on that tab, even though we can’t change it there. Check/Uncheck, and if you click on the mini box, it takes you to the mini tab.
Note: I think these same two recommendations would go a long way with outfits as well.
And another post-panic thank you.
“Guild Registrars no longer provide access to the Guild Vault.” No clue why but found it here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates/September_2014 under “Guild Wars 2 Wiki Notes”
Ah. ‘Vault’ and ‘Registrar’. I was searching on ‘bank’.
Thanks!
Yeah, that’s too bad. And then post a Guild QoL.
I thought of one!
Putting the bank back in WvW would be nice.
As would putting one by the mystic forge, like we used to have before LA fell.
And maybe not contesting the closest way point to the one we have?
Actually…why doesn’t that any NPC that you walk up to that has bank access (banker; crafting table) have a dialog or tab or whatever that can also access the guild bank?
Was there a patch note as to why it was removed after 2 years, or did they move it to another corner and I don’t see it? Old player experience?
Do you have any specific issues to report? It’s difficult to escalate bug reports, without details on the bug(s) you are experiencing and how it’s affecting your gameplay.
I have one. Where is the guild bank?
It was removed from the WvW map? If this isn’t a bug, can someone direct me to the patch note that states it and explains why?
Added to:
There’s only one in Lion’s Arch.
Then they contested the way point by the build bank, to make you run to it a little.
It’s not any where the mystic forge, in the event you store some things there to merge in the forge.
I’ve told a guildie of mine to post on the forum but he won’t so…
He says he is having problems now with the mini pets and being able to play. The game is lagging for him now whenever he goes to a high population map, to the point where he is threatening to quit playing and find another game.
Possibly an option to hide everyone’s mini pets would be a good idea for people without a good connection.
Here’s my problem with this.
We had mini pets, for two years. They sold them to us, those of us who liked them bought them, we were probably very happy with them.
I presume that your friend was able to play for 2 years before the patch?
So why did they make a change that not only killed the enjoyment for mini-pet aficionados, but also cause new problems for people without mini pets?
We had them for two years, they were fine, why did they have to change them?
Also, since mini-pets are skins, and we pay for them or work hard for them to show them off to the world, in all fairness, they should add an option to replace every giant, surf board, flaming, legendary skin of kitten with newbie weapon skins.
I’d turn that on, and leave the mini pets on.
Person: Cool dog, does he have a name?
Me: Yeah, ‘Sink’.
Person: You named your dog ‘Sink’?
Me: Yeah, because he can’t swim.
Good times
To fans of the “old” running animation (still think the “new” one is just a bug):
The animation is still in the game. Every human female NPC uses the “old” animation. And if your character is infight and their weapons are holstered, she also uses the normal, better looking animation. And two-handed weapons behave much better too.Did some videos a while ago to show the difference. I admit they are not the best ones, but enough to see the difference.
new animation: front
new animation: hammer
new animation: greatswordold animation: front
old animation: hammer
old animation: greatswordI really miss those animations. I think I will report this in game, you should as well and maybe link those videos. Considering the animations are still in game, it is without a doubt a bug.
Which either means the animations we had now were in the game at one point, and they used one set over the other for launch, and the bug is that they inadvertently hooked the other animations up during a patch 10 months ago and don’t care to fix it, or, some one (or more) quietly complained about it, it was never mentioned or talked about, and they assigned someone to specifically spend time changing the animation, yet it was never a patch note or discussed with the community as to why it was changed.
I posted an idea months ago which I thought would be a neat money idea for them, though, it would also be work on their part, which might make it unattractive.
Why not make running the running animation (and now I see idle animations would fit nicely in here too) something you get to ‘pick’ for your character, just like your hair, body type, skin, face, etc? They could make ‘animation packs’ (running, walking, idle) to sell us in the store. Imagine a skipping Asuran? Maybe you want a limp?
A nice start would be letting those of us who would rather have the original running animation have it. You could change your running and walking animations using full make over kits, which would increase those sales.
The idle would be more tricky, as we have several. That might be something where you could ‘add’ new ones to the rotation, but I can’t think of a good way to turn them off, unless they add some sort of UI to the full make over kits to ‘pick 4’ or something?
Working as Intended. I must not have done what I thought I done, or had one of those “no chest” experiences where you don’t go far enough away before coming back and don’t get a chest even though it’s the next day things without realizing it.
Of course, I’d argue ‘that’ behavior is a bug, but that’s a whole other topic and probably been doing that since the dawn of time, possibly tied into the DR system, so I live with that.
I’m only level 4.5 on my new Human Necro, but I’m rather enjoying it. I’m about to go learn to dodge.
Funny thing is, I remember when I was starting out and how much trouble I had with my staff Elementalist with some of the early story steps, and a lot of it was not knowing how to move and fight, and yes, dodge.
Never played a necro before, so it’s kinda fun watching my skills unfold, and getting to try them in rotations before getting new ones. When I found a new knife I’d never used, I had 3 skills unlocked on my axe, and I immediately knew the 3 skills on the knife. I could read them and get an idea as to what they might do, but then jump right in with it without having to learn each one. Yes, that mechanic had a little bit of charm to it back in the day, unlocking a little as you go, but trying to look at it with new eyes, this way isn’t horrible either. I think the ‘learn as you go’ mechanic would have worked better if the game was ‘totally’ organic and level-less, but it’s not at the end of the day, so maybe this fits better.
Granted, it’s early, and maybe I’ll be frustrated by the time I’m 15, but we’ll see.
And, putting my “I’m new and don’t know anything yet” hat on, one thing that occurred to me was you get to buy 3 accessory karma items early on. Now maybe I missed it, but once you get the third one, and want to sell the one you don’t want to use any more, it’s not really clear as to why you can’t sell a karma item?
I would actually like to finish the sentence:
“, but we could be.”
I don’t know if it has been mentioned, I’m sure it has.
Since we can be a member of multiple guilds, it would be nice to either be able to set your guild chat to a guild you are a member of ‘other’ than the guild you are currently repping. Or even better, a channel for every guild you are a member of so you can join all the chats at the same time, and color code them and/or have each chat preceded by the short guild tag so you can tell what guild the chat is from.
No one said ITT there would be white chocolate and a puppet show.
That’s too bad. I relied on paid runs of Arah to help finish my Bifrost. I’m not in a guild, I don’t know many people, and I’m not super awesome, so would never get invited to a real run. I was very grateful to the folks that sold me runs, at a reasonable price, and was surprised at how reliable, honest and respectful they were. Was never taken advantage of, and one time the person finished even though they couldn’t get a full group, so as not to make us have to wait.
And I never thought of it so much as selling as the reverse of me asking in a global chat if anyone would be willing to give me a slot in a group if I paid for the help. I’m not sure why it gets a bad reputation. Doesn’t really hurt anyone else.
I’m sorry to hear they made tools that make it difficult for you to continue. I followed the link and read his post, and that borderline ‘encourages’ people to do that to you. That’s a shame.
I guess they could call it the “George Thorogood Rule”?
If you have a private bank guild and you’re representing that guild, you might try “/g” for guild chat.
That’s the method I use.
raises hand
Where does the America part fit in? :|
Instant cast would be fine, but even then, it kinda breaks into your rotation.
I was hoping it would work the way Ranger’s ‘F2’ skill works. You can hit it as part of your normal rotations, and it in no way impacts the queue of your ‘10 skill’ bar.
Other than that, I like the idea, and I use it quite a bit, even though I realize I’m probably taking a DPS hit sneaking it into my rotation.
Criticism is unfair now? Fantastic, I AM in the Twilight Zone!
Not the Twilight Zone. Airplane!
I have a few characters that are effectively parked at certain world bosses, and their job is to do them each day. It’s a little bit sad for them, but I digress.
Now, my warrior does kitten, every day. Because the wurm in Caledon starts ‘right’ after that, and I like to try to get in a prime instance, I’ll always run down to the big chest and hit F with my warrior to loot the blues and greens and then logoff immediately (with the little shaky bonus chest in the lower right hand corner for the rare item still there), and bring my Guardian in to get ready for Wurm.
The next day, I log my warrior in, sometimes not until right before kitten, and collect the bonus chest (still flashing in the lower right hand corner), run to the fort up the hill to the west (near the way point by the next zone) to both do some buying/selling, sell or salvage my rare, etc, and to make sure I’ve moved far enough away that I don’t get hit with the “you are lazy and don’t get a chest today” bug for not having moved far enough away. Has been working great.
This morning when I logged in – no bonus chest was still there from the day before. The blues and greens were in my bag, and I was standing about where the big chest was, I had completed it, but the bonus chest had disappeared.
Is there a new time limit on how long you have to collect those now? Is it possible the process of getting small patches ‘clears’ those?
I’m going to test it again today (won’t know what happened until tomorrow, will come back and report), but wanted to get this out there now in case anyone does anything similar and there really is a problem.
Well, I had an experience this morning at Maw that made me decide to at least ‘try’ to put a calm, rational hat on and see if I can’t think about it in terms of how they implemented it, what they were trying to achieve, and see if there’s a ‘meet half way’ point.
At Maw today, there were a lot of people around before it started, and I could see my pet! I start at the big town to the SW and run out to the pole, skipping the grawl pre, and my first ‘event’ is breaking the pole, then I sit there and skip the vets/portals and wait for the big show.
1. I saw my pet (and others, and not terribly close to me) running from town all the way out there.
2. I saw my pet (and others) while breaking the pole, through the vet/portal event, and it wasn’t until shortly after we could start attacking the main man, that the message popped up and my pets and everyone else’s vanished.
3. After the fight was over, still no pets, and then I started running away ‘back’ to town, leaving that big group of people behind, and my pet never came back. Never came back all the way back to town and at town while I was selling and getting ready to log out and login the 2nd character I use at FE.
I logged my second character in at FE, and ported to the waypoint at the north end of the zone closest to FE. I had to turn my mini pet on (buried by itself in a screen I never use, it’s much harder to fire up your pets now, I thought the idea was they should always be on, if we choose?) As soon as I did, I got the message, and it vanished, well away from everyone else. It seemed like it was far more sensitive than at Maw.
So, assuming the system is here to stay, and I won’t get my way and have mini-pets treated ‘exactly’ like equals in the culling rules, and they will be demoted earlier, here are some thoughts.
1. I can’t imagine there would be much argument on this, you should always see your own pet.
2. Assuming (1) is done, do we really need the system message?
3. The experience at Maw was perfect. When it decided to drop them out was pretty ‘late’, it waited a long time. I can’t explain why just showing up in a zone to do FE would shut it off. Seems like that experience needs to be normalized, and be much more forgiving, like the experience I had at Maw this morning (and there seemed like there was a lot of people there).
4. There is nothing to then ‘turn them back on’ as you move away from congested areas. It seems like it’s being applied across an entire zone rather than using proximity checks, like the other culling rules? As I ran away and left the crowd at maw, my pet should have become visible to me on the way back to town. And, assuming (1) is implemented, let’s say I was running back with a friend or a stranger, while I’d always be seeing my pet, as we left the crowd, ‘their’ pet should have re-appeared to me (if they had one).
5. If the check is supposed to be to keep the pets always out, even across zones, it’s not obeying it. I had to turn mine on when I went to the FE zone, after just having it on earlier. Or, I did walk into a personal instance, maybe that shut it off?
6. Bonus: Assuming (1), it would be a nice benefit if by extension, you ‘always’ see any minis of ‘any people in your party’, if that would be possible.
So those are my rational thoughts on it, for whatever it’s worth.
(edited by notebene.3190)
I like that they are there, and wish there was more done to point them out. I love world bosses, but missed the one in Queensdale as I was leveling up the first time, and wasn’t aware of them until much, much later in the game. I think the first one I ‘saw’ (using the term loosely, as it died as I was walking by, but got credit for the chest) was Claw, while I happened to be doing the map clear.
Hey everyone,
While this is currently working as intended, it’s definitely something that we’ll be working on and tweaking in the future. We want you to be able to enjoy your minis so hang in there!
Appreciate you coming out and braving the storm and at least saying something. Wish I could say the same for the developers and designers who don’t really seemed concerned.
Please pass this single idea back to them:
The fact that this was all working for two years aside, if whatever the issue with your servers is now is such that it decides to not show me another player’s mini, then it should not show me the player, or the player should be a grey shell. My pet should be visible to me all the time. I’d rather see the mini of someone two feet from me than Skippy VonMcLeet and his flaming surf board. And where was the CDI on this topic.
Again, thank you for weathering the storm.
This bug has been reported and is currently under investigation. Thanks for your reports, everybody.
I have a question.
What was the human female running animation change 10 months ago? May we know what problem that solved? Some of us asked, no answer was provided.
OK, I think I found it. R1C2 is now R2C1. I don’t know if that is the only switch or not, but that seems right. Everything else, at least that I had marked down, like my favorite face, hadn’t changed.
I created a new necromancer. Have been meaning to, thought it might be interesting to try out the new leveling experience before I most likely, regretfully and sadly throw in the towel.
I have documented from two years ago, and used as recently as a few months back, maybe a little more, the default settings for body type, skin, face, etc (varying hair style/colors and a few other things) that I used R1C2 (row 1; column 2) as my type.
I selected it today for the character, and it’s not the same as my other characters.
Were some body types removed and/or replaced, or did they just get shuffled around? Is there any way, if they weren’t deleted, to get information on what R1C2 is now so I don’t have to spend a few hours creating and deleting the character until I find the right one? Or, in the event it was deleted, to just add it to my private ‘list of reasons’ and not bother?
I tried to create a new character to try out the new leveling experience, and noticed the body options have either moved around or, god forbid, have completely changed.
I used to use the human female row 1 col 2 body (documented 2 years ago and I believe used as recently as a few months back when I created my engineer). That choice today is not the same choice.
Could I get some information on how everything moved, if things were added/deleted, and if nothing was deleted, which row and column number option is now what R1C2 used to be? So I don’t have to spend hours re-creating my characters and checking them in the login screen?
Edit: Well, R1C2 is now R2C1. I’m not sure if those are the only two that changed and they just ‘swapped’, but there you go.
(edited by notebene.3190)
This just comfirms that people will NEVER be satisfied whatever anet does. This kittenstorm of profanity comming their way just because they removed human female idle animation? Are you serious?? That’s why we can’t have nice things.
What problem did it solve? While demoting mini-pets from being something we show off to the rest of the world to solve their server performance problems (albeit, not mentioning any of that in the ‘unveiling’ developer blog count down post), and disguising the entire thing as a feature, and hoping no one noticed that the 400 gems I spent on my mini-pet skin to show off to the world did not have the same value as the gems you spent on your weapon, armor or outfit skin, at least in hindsight, while a terrible solution to their problems, and an unfair solution to their problems, at least it is a solution to a problem.
What does taking away a human female idle animation solve? Server load? PvP balance?
What did changing our running animation 10 months ago solve? Learning to dodge? Not being overwhelmed with weapon skins?
What did not putting the effort into asking us before the wardrobe change what sorts of old clothing we’d like to see converted into outfits so we didn’t lose so much, rather than just giving up and throwing some techno-babble at us about layers and flux capacitors and the zero effect solve?
I guess I don’t understand why it’s not about choices and options. If these are the results of changes that are quietly asked for behind closed doors, why isn’t it about ‘adding’ choices for those people that don’t like the default options, while retaining the other options for people that enjoy them?
And why doesn’t someone come out here and talk about these things? Two days in, why don’t we know exactly what the issue is with the mini-pets, what things were intentional, if they are going to offer refunds, why they felt it was fair, what if anything they’ll bother fixing? Why wasn’t the running animation change talked about? Why was it done? Where did it come from? This idle animation change. Who asked for it? Why did it have to change?
Well, no idle animation, but here’s one with me and Elsa. Would have loved the sturdy leather backpack to finish off the look. Oh well.
I just wish someone would explain why we can’t have those things. Also have a few old stills of the old running animation. It doesn’t really do it justice, but you can’t ever duplicate them.
That is hilarious, expected, and very sad.
Doesn’t meet the healthy and appropriate philosophy, I guess.
Things we’ll never see in the game again. Sadly, I don’t have one with my lion mini-pet out in the world with me to put a bow on it.
Nevermind, I found it. It’s the Sturdy Leatherworkers Backpack.
They were small and looked like leather backpack purses?
I wish I could think of where I saw the posted pictures. Hmm, maybe I commented on them and it was in these forums? I’ll go see if I can find them.
What mini?
Oh you mean that one that vanishes every time I am in Caledon yet somehow never in Lion’s Arch?
He’s right there in the screen shot of me standing in the world?
C’mon, show me the mini!
Screenshots of you and your pets in the world! I’ll start. Here’s my Thief with her favorite puppy (who can’t swim). It’s a ‘bit’ hard to see, but we’re above the jumping puzzle in Queensdale.
Someone posted a month or two ago all the back packs that were in the Chinese version, and there were some negative and positive comments.
I see many of those in the game now, but what I don’t see are the 2-3 that I was kinda excited about. Did we not get those, are they perhaps drops somewhere or for future gem store release?
I’m going by this and I suppose there is a chance that it’s just incomplete, but I was excited about the few that I did like and am sad I don’t see them.
Off means no arrow.
Hide events and personal story will still show you map completion stuff like vistas or points of interest that are nearby.
Oh, that’s actually kinda neat. Thank you.
