Out of curiosity… Does anyone know if it is possible to get a pre-cursor by sticking in 4 different level 80 rares? Like shield, sword, dagger, and staff all level 80 rare?

I know doing this, you can’t control which pre-cursor you would get, but could you still get one?

@Torqueblue: Mystic Coins jumped because a lot of weapon recipes have recently been discovered on the mystic forge, and those recipes use mystic coins… sometimes up to 100 of them.

As to the OP, Have you tried to see if Basic Transmutation stones can even be put into the forge?

@Charrgirl: you don’t need the items to participate… I am beginning to believe that you totally misunderstand this event.

The event, all the new content being added to the game, the whole holiday is free.

The only things that you would have to buy are full Costumes, Mini pets, special tonics, or gamble for Weapon Skins from chests. None of which are needed to participate in the event.

There are already tonics in the game that turn you into Orr monsters, that you can get pretty easily. The TP price on them might go up for Halloween, but knowing ANet and GW1, I’m sure some food items and tonics will be added as special monster drops for the period of the holiday.

-edit: Oh and @Sousuke: The promo details never mention the costume being given out by the BL chests. The costume(s) will most likely be sold like every other costume on the TP. Only the 6 weapon skins will be in the BL chests.

-edit2: honestly, I should have read their promo more thoroughly myself… maybe I won’t be opening the BL chests… only 6 weapon skins? I only wield daggers… how much you want to bet that there won’t be a skin for daggers… and I bet you one skin will 100% for sure be for the Great Sword… so unfair to other weapon users end rant

@Charrgirl: Well, if my methods for gaining gold aren’t fun to you, then find a way that is fun for you. I didn’t once say to grind anything.

I love gathering, and make a decent amount of money from gathering each night for an hour after work. It’ll probly take me 2 months to get tier 3 cultural, but that is my goal… I’m just not going to use my hard earned gold for Halloween when I can get gems with my extra hard earned cash.

It’s purely optional. Just like in GW1, you get a free hat for Halloween. The whole Halloween event and content updates are free. Yet you’re here angry because they decided to also try and make some money with some new, purely optional skins/tonics for Halloween… There is nothing wrong with what they are doing.

They promised they wouldn’t force you to buy gems to get max stats or to be fully and equally competetive. They can’t control anything related to grind because people misuse that word and most don’t even know what grind is anymore.

Yes, GW2 has been worth all $200 that I have spent so far, and I intend to spend more in the future to continue to support ANet :-D

It would be really cool to have a /sitchair emote where your character “summons” a chair that he’s able to sit in… but would strict RP’ers be ok with that, I wonder…

I use an AMD Radeon HD 6850. I play with near-ultra settings on 1600 × 900 resolution since I play on a 40" TV that is 10 ft away anyways, also having the icons a little bigger is nice since I still click the icons for skill usage :-P

Windows 7 64bit, Core i5 2500K at stock settings still tho, have an SSD for windows and 2 hard disks, 1 for games/data and 1 for backing the other 2 drives up.

This computer plays GW2 amazingly :-) I’m very happy with it.

While I agree that I don’t like many armors, I like many armors as well… The previews stink though because it’s very important to see items dyed properly. Dying an armor can change what it looks like drastically.

I have 4 armor sets that I want purely for looks for my female Sylvari Elementalist. I have the 1st 2 already:
Exalted (400 tailoring exotic crafted)
Shadow (crafted or karma vendors.. a lower level armor but looks awesome, transmuted the masquerade rare magic find stats onto this skin)
Tier 3 Cultural
Vigil

Still haven’t decided if I want to buy the Vigil armor now and postpone the Tier 3 by a week, or wait on the Vigil to get Tier 3 slightly sooner, because I want the tier 3 more than the vigil… decisions decisions. :-)

I’m so gonna buy gems with RL cash. I haven’t decided how many yet (either 800 or 1600). It’s fun to gamble, why do you think so many casinos exist??? And supporting ANet while having fun? What’s better than that!

I understand some people can’t afford the gems, so I suggest figuring out how to make gold in GW2 to get gems that way. ANet has given everyone a way to get gems… not only the people with the extra cash on hand. You can easily make 2 gold in an hour just gathering materials (ori and ancient logs) each night and selling them on the TP… do that this weekend and you should have enough gold to get gems for 5 keys or a costume. If you have extra time, farm Orr events in Magic Find Gear… you get a lot of gold items that way. and don’t forget the peach tarts ;-)

While you were complaining on these forums you could have made 20 silver more in GW2…

Where were you? There are Master Jeweler vendors that won’t sell me anything and I am a level 400 Jeweler myself lol. Certain vendors are glitched. I’m pretty sure Ebonhawke is one of the places where I had major problems.

The only item that I have seen that uses these skulls in the mystic forge is a Skull shaped focus… I don’t think any other recipes have been discovered yet. I’ve always wondered what else could be made though, I just don’t have the variety of materials needed to check myself.

It’s much easier to get mithril, 3 crystals, and 3 ecto than to get orichalcum, 5 orbs, and 5 ecto… and the stats aren’t extremely different from rare to exotic.

But yeah, I do see your point and I have only ever crafted 1 piece of rare mithril jewelry and that was to level my Jewelry crafting from 380 to 400. I have crafted many many pieces of Exotic Jewelry, and sold all but 5 that were for my own character.

The odds using rares are about 1 in 1000… not 1 in 60 to 80. I haven’t seen someone with a big sample size of Exotics try it yet, but I’ve heard the odds for exotics are significantly higher. Maybe using Exotics would get you your 1 in 60 chance?

It’s still RNG tho… totally random. You could throw 4000 exotics into the forge and still never get Dawn or Dusk.

I’m unsure on this one as well… It hasn’t yet happened to me with golds, but it’s happened a couple times when I put greens into the forge… I assumed it was part of the “gamble”, but then I remember someone posting it in the bug forums and a Dev replied to it and it sounded like it could very well be a bug (Though the Dev wasn’t very clear on the matter)

I bought some keys (with gems) when the game first launched and got several BL kits from opening Black Lion Chests…. I’ve put away one BL kit for strict Rune removal, but was using the other ones to get more Ecto from salvaging golds…

and No 25% chance from Mystic Kit and 50% Chance from BL kit are not “equal chances”…

I’ve only got that one stored BL kit now tho, So I’m using Mystic for my golds now Was nice getting at least an ecto from almost every single salvage for the first 1.5 months after release.

Why do people say there is DR on things where it doesn’t exist? Just like there is no DR on the Mystic Forge, there isn’t DR on salvaging.

DR exists only in farming. Whether you are farming for gold, drops, karma, dungeon tokens. Those are where Arena Net’s DR system could activate.

Just because you had a bad luck streak just after you had a couple good salvages doesn’t mean that there is a DR system in place >.<

So somewhere around a 1 in a 1000 chance… maybe slightly higher… Thanks a ton for all that information Mr. Spooky. That’s a really nice sample size :-) Nice to know the odds of getting an exotic are around 1 in 5 :-)

You can tell from andybmcc’s post that the simplest class is the warrior… hardly needs an explaination :-) lol
I’ve also heard that ranger is pretty easy because the pet takes most of the damage and you can kite just about everything.

But just remember that easiest class to get into, might not be the most fun. I play Dagger/Dagger Elementalist, because being the squishiest class at near melee range is thrilling and fun!

I am at 12 ectos from 6 gold salvages since the patch.
More specifically
8/3 with my last salvages of my BL kit.
4/3 with my Mystic kit.

It’s been a very lucky salvage ratio for me, normally I get only about 1.5 per on average using only a black lion kit. So I can tell you that your bad luck probably has nothing to do with the patch changing anything…. RNG is RNG. It’s a gamble trying to get ecto out of any gold. Some weeks you win, and some weeks you lose.

One thing to check is this: Is your inbox full? I wasn’t receiving messages from friends either, but thats because I hadn’t deleted any of my old messages and my inbox had filled up. (Mine stopped receiving messages even when the inbox said 9/10 too) Try deleting some old messages that you have received from other players and see if that helps :-)

Yeah, when transmuting, like in your picture, before hitting the transmute button, you first need to click on the icon for the skin that you want, and the icon for the stats that you want. After that the transmute button should highlight and you should be able to combine the items :-)
