I suspect the reason for the lack of noise yesterday was because 4 July landed on a Saturday, so it was possibly a Bank Holiday Weekend for the US. I couldn’t tell for sure as I’m from the UK.

Ranger gets staff, thief gets rifle

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

That looks to me like a Rifle.

Ok to settle this once and for all, look at those 2 pictures, if you still see a rifle, a spear or wathever else than a staff, you’re blind and I feel sorry for you.
Or you’re just a troll.
And the preview show the staff in game.

Yeah I don’t get how people can possibly see a rifle in what is quite obviously just a stick.

There is no stock, barrel, muzzle, trigger or any sort of mechanism on that entire stick. How could it possibly be a rifle.

It’s clearly a rifle. It’s just a magic rifle that doesn’t need a stock, muzzle, trigger or bullets.

penelopehannibal.8947

It’s doubtful thieves will get staff since rangers are already getting the staff. It’s also counter to the theme of thieves to use staffs.

If anything thieves lack long range weaponry and a rifle would round out the thief class in that manner.

ArenaNet never said each weapon will be unique to one elite specialisation. >.<

Even if they did implement a kit where you can change your race (unlikely) – it would probably be cheaper or the same price to purchase a new character slot anyway, given the price of an Identity Repair Kit.

I have a thought.

Based on other data mining, there is some pretty good evidence that thieves will get kits with their specialization. So maybe thief will get rifle as their new weapon, and get staff as one of their new kits.

Aye, that’s one possibility.

OR

The other way round too – Staff main weapon, rifle kit.

Fair enough.
I was going by the other pick as it does look like a (cut off the pic) blade at the end.

How so? From a logical point of view, it makes far more sense than staff because of all the reasons I listed originally.

This sounds to me like what you’re saying is “My point of view is above everybody else’s and only I have a logical opinion”.

I’ve already said earlier that the thief already has more ranged attacks than melee. So in my opinion, it makes more sense for thief to get staff rather than rifle.

Anything can happen though, even with the picture of a specialisation background, that’s clearly a thief holding a [&C6EXAAA=], anything can still happen. Thief could end up with a focus yet. Imagine running around as a thief with the Inquest key-shaped focus!

Because they’ve seen it so many times from people they know are friends, that the text has become part of the ‘furniture’ perhaps. I know I don’t read that bit every time I get the mail.

Edit: There is nothing wrong with a player coming to the forums seeking reassurance just to make sure – please don’t treat players badly as if there is!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

penelopehannibal.8947

Second, and more importantly, thief has plenty of melee options,

Thief has melee Dagger and Sword. Sword has three melee skills, dagger has 4.

Ranged skills a thief has are Shortbow & Pistol skills. Shortbow has 5, Pistol has 5, plus 1 dagger throwing skill. There’s already more ranged skills than melee skills for thief.

(Underwater it’s 50/50)

Edit: Other than point and shoot, what other moves can a rifle thief offer over the fine martial arts style of a melee staff? A staff can offer both good ranged, melee and magical skills for thief that we would have never in the past have even conceived.

Hi,

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed this, but in the Norn story line “A Weapon of Legend” there is a continuity error in the script.

Firstly, you receive a letter which says:

“Hail, Slayer of Issomir! I heard of your victory in The Great Hunt, and Eir Stegalkin herself recommended I contact you….”

But later in the storyline, Beigarth the Blacksmith asks the player in the cut-scene “Have you ever heard of an Eir Stegalkin? She travels with a big black wolf” – The blacksmith should know I have if I came recommended by Eir herself!

What actually makes a player a ‘veteran’ player anyway? How are we measuring this basis of calling someone a ‘veteran’ for comparison, and at what point does someone have ‘the right’ to be called a veteran?

Its usually measured in “back in my days”.

I personally use an “envy meter.” The higher the envy, the more unworthy the other player is and the more veteran status is removed from his account.

Both are very good answers!

But further to my point is, how can ArenaNet measure who is and who is not a veteran player? It seems no matter what ArenaNet does lately, someone has to call “It’s not fair!”

They can give priority to streamers and you tubers where people who didn’t get an invite can still see the content. Is that so bad? Apparently so, it’s bad for ‘veterans’.

If they gave out invites to dedicated WvW guilds, someone will cry out “This is not fair on smaller guilds!”

If they gave out invites to people who played since Day 1, someone will cry out “This is not fair on people who played less days, but put in more hours!”

If they gave out invites to people with a certain amount of hours according to /age, someone will cry out “This is not fair on people who don’t have time to play the game as long as they do!”

If they gave out invites to people with a certain amount of AP… well, you get the picture I guess!

Welcome Back to Guild Wars 2.

Many changes have come with the interface and such, but since it’s been two years, I’ll mention there was the April & September Feature Packs (April & September 2014) which introduced a few changes to things like how dailies are done, dyes are now account bound, you have the wardrobe system for unlocking weapon & armour skins, and costumes replaced town clothes.

Basically, log on with every single character you have for the above reasons to make sure you unlock everything you’re owed.

Thief Elite Spec

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: penelopehannibal.8947

penelopehannibal.8947

What you guys think the new profession mechanic for thieves will be?

I was thinking earlier today “What could possibly replace ‘Steal’ for thief?” and then I realised that a thief would no longer be a thief with the Elite Spec anyway – so whatever replaces F1 & F2 would probably involve perhaps Shadowstepping to the foe, and doing some sort of Hand-to-Hand flurry, maybe then Shadowstepping back to safety with F2.

I can also kinda see the specialisation being able to do some Quasi-Magic Shadow manipulation too – like surrounding in a black aura perhaps, that absorbs or blocks damage.

The beauty of the thief profession is, by it’s very nature it’s all vague to start with – so a lot is up for possibility.

And to the OP – I support a ethereal/goth band on Patreon. It’s a pretty solid way of supporting an artist. Anet is too big for something like that, besides they have a robust cash shop full of juicy items we don’t really need yet purchase anyways.

The point is you didn’t need to correct their spelling. It was quite rude and condescending towards the OP, isn’t nice when it happens to you, is it? Besides, how do you know the OP wasn’t using a phone either?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Because there are so many questions about the Wolf fear and Taunt, I decided to log my Ranger and test it. The Taunt goes off instantly while the fear has a somewhat long cast time. What happens is the target gets taunted first, attacking the pet. Then the cast time finisher and the fear goes off.

Quite an interesting and fun reaction and this will make sure your AoE fear goes off because the taunt is instant. Unfortunately the long cooldown on the fear makes this very gimmicky.

Thanks – I’m going to have to load a ranger and charm a wolf from WvW now just to try it! It does sound fun!

Aye, as the guy with the red tag says:

You should block the account and then make no further attempt to interact with them directly or through a 3rd party (i.e. having a friend send an in-game mail).

The minimum system requirements section of the HoT Pre-Purchase states:

“The Mac beta version of Guild Wars 2 runs well on the below machines or better. Your results may vary if you’ve upgraded or changed your Mac hardware or are running on lower hardware specifications.

iMac 21.5", 27" (Mid-2010)"

This small army is getting to the three veteran renegade leaders and killing them quite quickly, making the event much too easy now – it was nice little challenge for the area before.
