As a whole I think the chatters are ok, but:
“Eat my dust!” <— Have to agree, wouldn’t miss this sentence!
“May Lyssa confound you” <— I want this back!!! cries
I think the fact we already have not just me but a lot of players with a huge amount of hours spent in game is a success to ArenaNet and Guild Wars 2.
That’s ten hours a day…
Seeing some of the numbers in this thread, does this seriously not bother some of you guys? Because if I looked back on two years and noticed I logged 10 hours a day on a computer game I’d probably throw myself off the nearest bridge.
Maybe I’m just old-fashioned but being plugged-in for most, if not all, of your free time just seems like you’re avoiding the awkwardness that can come with real life, spontaneous interaction.
Thank you for your wavering concern regarding the amount of hours I’ve spent on Guild Wars 2, and of course, for the state of my mental health.
If it’s really important to you that I must clarify why I’ve managed to spend so much time in the game without throwing myself off a bridge, it is because I am a full-time carer for my disabled wife who needs my care during the day as she suffers from more than one disability.
Sometimes I have to walk away from the game to administer her medication, so there is some AFK time there. Some nights during the week, I engage in RP with my guild mates. Mostly Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Also, on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, my guild and some of our friends hang out in Divinity’s Reach listening to one of our guild member’s radio shows.
As for actual gameplay, I first spent a lot of time levelling alts, then after so many I decided to see how many I can get to 100% map completion. I’ve done eight so far, working on character No. 9.
Some people choose to play and interact with video games instead of watching TV all day. Not everyone is a Game of Thrones fan!!!
I hope this puts to one side some of your concerns, and that I can assure you that both my mental and my physical conditions are at the moment, quite stable and I have no plans in the near future to go throw myself off a bridge.
Being the voice of reason here, as Roleplay is not something I really understand. I imagine it to be like kids playing with toys, just virtually.
Irrespective, there is one very simple solution to your problem. Go to a private Instance with your team.
There are Home Instances, the Eye of the North, Personal Story Instances, Living Story Instance and Dungeons. Which makes up for a lot of area’s where you will get zero interruption from other players.
Hope that helps
Incorrect. Not helpful.
You are basically suggesting that players who are playing the game in a way that they enjoy, and do not harm other players should be confined to one space. This is not right on any level.
Well you got 2 choices then. You can either go with my suggestion which gives you the option of 5 Home Instances plus Eye of the North and 8 Dungeons. Along with the possible story instances equally anything between 1-100. (so no not confined to ONE area at all, don’t over exaggerate).
Or your other option is to carry on as you are and see that you are the one with the problem of “troublesome players” but refuse to take the steps you need to avoid it.
End of the day that’s your call. I’m just trying to give you solutions, if they are not acceptable to you then i’m afraid it a case of “put up and shut up!” May seem harsh but if you’re not willing to, why should anyone else be?
Sadly you’re the one being unreasonable now!
What you are suggesting is that the roleplayers who may for example, roleplaying Ministers, to go somewhere other than where lore-wise Ministers would do their duties.
What you are suggesting is that roleplayers should be the ones to change the way they play the game, when it’s anti-Roleplay trolls that need to change their behaviours.
Roleplayers have as much right as non-roleplayers to use /say chat and /emotes as long as (just like non-Roleplayers) they are not using it to maliciously cause hurt or upset in accordance with ArenaNet’s ToS. Which at least as far as Piken Square roleplayers are concerned, it rarely if at all happens.

Flipside, I’ve run into some really kitteny RPers. I will hunt them down to add them to my block list, /cry nearby, and otherwise be a dumbhead when they pollute the most public areas of the game with their drunken CW-worthy blather.
If you are truly serious about this, then it’s you that is the problem and not the so-called “kitten-y” RPers as you put it.
How you think this would help anyone, including yourself, is beyond reasoning.
but meh when i have 3-10% on my other toons it doesn’t feel as good.
This is the problem with ‘Power’ levelling.
People who ignore map completion as a way of levelling and go to EotM or wherever else have made rods for their own backs.
You can easily get 25% – 40% map completion if you’d levelled via map completing instead of the popular, ‘short term quick fixes’ to levelling.
I enjoy map completion.
I’ve almost completed my 8th character with map completion. Just got Cursed Shore, Hoelbrak & The Black Citadel to go.
Farming in the open world has always brought about toxic chat, such as Queensdale Champ Train, and the Coil “Fail the Event on purpose” Train in Frostgorge Sound. Mainly because everyone claims “entitlement” to the mobs. Luckily these two examples got dealt with.
I think the best way to resolve this Maize Balm farming issue is to simply add a few ambient creatures in home instances, and make the bags only work in your home instance. Thus, only party members can take away your creatures, so it would be controlled.
People trying to do weapon master will also have their own place to go too.
I’m not sure we can class last week as a ‘break’, since I don’t recall it being official that it’d be 1 reveal per week, every week. In fact, someone from ANet said on either their Facebook or Twitter that they will only reveal profession specialisations when they feel it’s ready.
ArenaNet troll players. Only invite a few thousands for beta and tease all the others. Good job ArenaNet.
“Only” ?
Remember it’s Beta Testing, not a free trial!
You could always roll Guardian and make him go all Nelo Angelo
Why are we (including myself) bumping this thread? :O
Hello,
Did you sign up to the newsletter using the original email address that you sign up to Guild Wars 2 with?
I’ve changed emails since first playing Guild Wars 2, but because I’ve not ‘officially’ changed the original email with ArenaNet, I had to use the first email to sign up to. I got the email straight away after the announcement of the date of the closed beta came about.
Also, check spam folders, especially directly through your browser as oppose to using an app for reading emails, as sometimes your email provider (depending who it is) blocks emails before they get to your email app.
That’s working as intended I’m afraid, so I doubt they’ll get rid of it.
I personally think it looks fab on my thief.
Fellow EU players: Whilst the times are a bit awkward, remember we will be the ones having fun whilst ArenaNet will be on the other end of the line at the same time as us working – not having fun time!
If getting into the Beta Test was so important to you, you make sure you’re there by hook or by crook. Heck, I’ll be there at all three time slots!!
Energy drinks at the ready!
So for the Netherlands (GMT +2) that would be?
20:30 – 22:30
00:30 – 02:30
04:30 – 06:30
Yep spot on for NL, DE & DK (Sadly I don’t really know 100% other EU time zones only yours & London time)
The REAL special anncmnt is here! BETA!

40 hours of farming, no portal, too bitter to care.
My same attitude.
You both might still get an invite if you’ve signed up to the Newsletter (I believe you have to use the same email address as what’s connected to your Guild Wars 2 log on though)
:)
To be honest, I don’t think there are as many macro users when it comes to musical instruments as you might think there are.
I know many Piken Square players (particularly from one particular musical based guild who are actually anti-macro) who play their instruments beautifully without them.
I can’t say for most other servers, but Piken Square server (I’m talking both pre and post megaservers here) is definitely one of the most if not the most friendly servers you could ever be on.
19:30 – 21:30 BST / 20:30 – 22:30 CEST
23:30 – 01:30 BST/ 00:30 – 02:30 CEST (Running into Wednesday Morning)
03:30 – 05:30 BST/ 04:30 – 06:30 CEST (Wednesday Morning)
BST = British Summer Time
CEST=Central European Summer Time
Hope This Helps
Only the story is in said ‘time freeze’ – the rest of Tyria is still living.
It’s a bit of a brain-teaser though I agree – as a Piken Square Roleplayer in my mind I consider that Living Story happened – but the news of the disaster of the Pact Invasion of Mordremoth hasn’t reached the rest of Tyria yet.
Others may disagree though as it is a very grey area
Yehhh 1,000 day
You realise you’ve played this game 7,4 hours per day every day for the past 1000 days.
every day…
EVERY DAY!!!
Wow!
I dare not show you mine then!

Have you guys tried guesting other servers? That usually helps if there’s one particular megaserver of a map that’s stuck.

Forced name change....... after 3years ???

What the scrub is going on???
Oki so I was here at the release of GW2 and I played my Mesmer named:
Tree kitten since then!
I have had that name for 3 years then I recently paid for a name change and moved the name to my ranger Main ready to play Druid… this was done about 2-3 months ago… and was all fine! How ever I log in today to find that a name I’ve had since the day the game went live is now no longer exceptable?
I want my name back
any feedback of advice to help me reclaim my name would be greatly appreciated!
Surely I should get my name back or at the very least get the £8 a spent on the kitten name change???
Firstly on the three years part: If you would have used the offensive name originally as your main alt, it would have been reported by a player a lot sooner than it has been now.
Secondly: The £8 – you lost it yourself I’m afraid. It was your choice, not ArenaNet’s that you chose to use your £8 to break the ToS. I very much doubt you’ll get a refund.
Thirdly: The name change contract: Since you’ve actually been forced a name change contract – you’ve actually got more value for money, since indirectly you’ve had two uses of the same contract when most of us only get one!
Just try to be more careful next time – swear worded and naughty names will always get forced a name change no matter how long it takes – and some people get a ban for theirs, so at least you only got the forced name change!
The Above!

So in a game where I can commit animal cruelty for achievement points this is unacceptable? It wasn’t against the ToS when I created the account, ToS at the time pretty much only covered genuinely hateful names such as ethic-cleansing, racial slurs .Besides anyone can get offended over anything, someone somewhere is going to get offended. I’m pretty sure theres a number of homophobes(lot of those here in North America) out there that completely lost it when the main story featured a lesbian romance.
The game was certified with the certificate (12+) it was given with ‘slaughtering’ animal creatures in mind. Had the game featured NPCs with names such as yours, it’d surely have been given an 18+ certificate. 15+ at a push.
Killing ambient creatures and in-game violence that is within the certificate parameters are not an excuse for poor choice of words/names. Just take it on the chin instead of hooping up your thread!

The reason why you’ve gone so long before it got changed is because unlike character names, account names are seen a lot less often – usually only through Guild or Friends List rosters. Or this forum, which I suspect in your case is where your account name got noticed.
I’m sure some of your friends found it hilarious when you mention that some people liked it, but had it been a character name, you would have got reported by someone a lot sooner in-game, because it’s not a nice or clever name to have.
That said, look on the bright side. People have received 3 day bans in the past for less offensive names – so be grateful it was only a forced name change.
Hi,
I came back playing GW2 after long break and what i first saw was login rewards, with the last chest containing permanent bonus to account find gold.
My question is, is there a cap or any control of bonus gold find. I know that people who play regullary should be rewarded but not with things which
gives permanent bonuses making then more advanced that sunday players.
All you have to do is log in, get the chest, log out. You don’t have to play the actual game to get the chest.
^^; Look at his character name and the items in the gem shop/bltp…
Doh!
/em goes and sits in the corner, being quiet…
It sounds to me that you’ve been hacked – so first of all I recommend changing the password to both your game log on, and also your email address password too (And make sure they are both different passwords too as compromised accounts are usually due to compromised emails).
Then, submit a ticket by clicking support above the website. They might be able to do a roll-back, but you will need to prove ownership of the account when they ask.
I’m sorry to hear of your loss, but hopefully ArenaNet will sort it out for you.
If you’re a role-player you can do this anyway, don’t see why we need a system just for this :s
I’m not sure what a Genesis is, (other than a Phil Collins band) but I’m guessing this is a real bit of bad luck.
Perhaps try to submit a ticket about it? Maybe they can detect you had it dropped for you recently and it can be re-inbursed. But it is only a maybe, and seems like a terrible does of bad luck.
Edit: I am really very sorry if you can’t get your drop though – as on reflection to get it re-imbursed would be difficult.

Specializations (confirmed and speculative)

I seriously hope thieves don’t get rifle because if they did they’d have more ranged weapon skills than melee
what would you want them to get?
anyhow, its fairly likely it was a theif in the promo video with a rifle. It could theoretically be an engineer, but they dressed it in a style that is more thief like than engineerish
+ though they have ranged its all short range.
The biggest thing I would hope for, for thief specialisation is Melee Staff (like a bo) weapon. Perhaps the monkey king tonic is a teaser to it?
Secondly, probably greatsword.
Thirdly, probably axe if it’s to be one handed. Though that would also probably have some sort of ranged skill among there.
Hello,
I’ve noticed it’s been happening more often recently too – however, one fix I’ve found sometimes helps is this:
Minimise your game – don’t quit!
Go to Activity Monitor
Find and Quit the process ‘cookied’ (exact spelling)
It will re-load but this is normal.
Go back into game and re-load Gem Store.
Sometimes this helps, if not, then try quitting ‘cookied’ with game closed. But closing client usually not required. It has taken a few more tries than normal lately though.
Well, since you have the graphics set to high, with the resolutions set higher than 1080, I think you’re doing pretty alright there considering the Mac Beta is a cider wrap.
I run on Mid-2011 iMac with most set to medium and get about the same, but only at the 1080 resolution.
I’m not sure what you’re expecting, but it sounds to me like you need to change your ISP rather than it being a game problem.
There have been countless monthly updates since the game’s initial release, so I’m not sure how you’re expecting to have what was built only yesterday to be on the CD that was made nearly three years ago!
As it’s an online-only game, you do have to kind of expect monthly (if not bi-weekly) downloads, as well as usage of data whilst playing the game online. It’s not a game problem, its the problem of the way you’re using the internet.

This game needs Hammer-O-Tron. Trundles over to the char to be banned and then flattens him with the Ban Hammer.
lol Great Idea! Or perhaps call him Ban-O-Tron saying:
“You-banned. Have-a-nice-day.”
It’s just a shame Dhumm didn’t appear at the point where the character landed, but yes good work ArenaNet on getting rid of another exploiter!
"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

I think the new virtues sound pretty good. A bit unsure of the longbow with the limited information. But that name, I don’t really find it fitting at all.
The same goes for traps. They would be a more fitting addition to warriors than guardians. Along with the Dragonhunter name.
I was actually expecting Engineers to get traps!!
Hi,
Do you have post processing set? I’ve notice a big difference when I have it set to high compared to having it set to none.
Hi,
I’m on Piken Square and as others have said, transfer mostly worth it for WvW. We’re in a reasonable position with WvW at the moment.
It does still pose an advantage for RP if you’re natively in Piken Square, as you almost always end up in the ‘correct shard’ when walking through zones with your RP buddies. But to be honest with you, if you’re not really into WvW or you don’t have trouble finding friends to party up with to join shards, not really worth the transfer cost.
Piken Square is a great community though, so even you remain in Ruins of Surmia, as long as you’re RPing with us, you’re Piken at heart anyway, and I’m sure most if not all Piken Square players would welcome you.
Piken Square is more than just a server. Piken Square is the people too!
I doubt even ArenaNet knows other than about a week before it’d be out again for a promotional period. My best advice is to keep an eye on the Gem Store, and the Guild Wars 2 website for news. Especially Tuesdays.
As a prediction, I reckon since the Living Story gang (usually dubbed Destiny’s Edge 2.0) are a part of the Heart of Thorns story, they’ll probably do a longer promotional period of all of the character’s skins about a fortnight before HoT release. Just a prediction though.
Here is an extract from the wiki about PvE:
“Player versus Environment (usually abbreviated as PvE) refers to the combat and activities in the game which are not focused on competing against other players to succeed. PvE content is designed to be completed cooperatively with other players or as a solo player, so if combat is involved it is against computer controlled enemies. PvE is the opposite of Player versus Player (PvP) which focuses on combat against other players. In Guild Wars 2, PvP and PvE content are completely separate a character playing PvE cannot be killed by another player.”
I believe this is one of the fundamental building blocks of the co-operative community in Guild Wars 2 that PvE should always be co-operative.
We already have duelling anyway – in the form of Costume Brawl. A re-focus on the forgotten Costume Brawl concept is about all I will endorse for PvE based PvP. Other than that, no duelling please. Thanks.
Will HoT be out on Mac?
Can i please get a Dev confirmation! Thank You!
Since the Mac Beta is basically a Wine wrap, and the core game engine is already available and HoT is an expansion, I am more than 99% confident we Mac players will get to play HoT.
Are MAC users still in Beta?
Yes, it’s still in Beta, though the term ‘Beta’ is a rather loose term now since we don’t usually get any more problems than a regular PC user does.
