This is offical forum, most toxic and offensive part of GW2 community, what did you expect came in here.
Unfortunately this. So much complaining and unbridled rage, rarely for any good reason. People complaining when there is so much to do in the game that they will probably never accomplish for whatever pathetic excuses they come up with. Especially with raids out now, if you feel like there’s nothing to do, you’re freaking kidding yourself haha
Right. In case you guys missed it, you are both also here, also commenting, also part of this “toxic” bunch of people. Before you go generalizing the forum population stop for a moment, read and understand. There are plenty of well thought out and well written posts detailing exactly why so many people are displeased with HoT.
I play a Reaper while completing old Tyria. Does it count as playing the expansion?
Concerning this discussion, no.
Actually it does. You just gotta read between the lines. Obviously I purhased HoT but Im not in the jungle. So my reason to get the expansion was the GS Reaper. The jungle itself is a turn off hence I’m back to core content working toward map completion. The only reason to play HoT is to fully unlock my elite.
I play a Reaper while completing old Tyria. Does it count as playing the expansion?
When I look at HoT I see a mountain of grind in front of me. 5 only because of the Reaper, as for the rest of HoT.. Im currently back to completing old Tyria, that should tell you enough
What I see is that the raid is already deserted, few people at the entrance, and there’s not so much lfg announcements for it.
This. Problem with so called “hardcore players” is that they’re harcore only until they get harcore content. After that, they do it and quit or they can’t do it and also quit. That is why all those games with challenging content failed. And look at GW 2, the most casual game ever. For 3 years there was no expansion, people were doing all the same content and it still lives. Why? Because casual players are more profitable then progamers. They buy wings, minipets, gold etc. I, as casual player, don’t feel my self comfortable in this game anymore. I can’t do what I want whenever I want, because there’s timers for events. And it will be even worse with raids, because there’s so much elitists in this community and now they really have something to discriminate people that is why they’re so exited with raids and all the stuff it gives.
Had to quote this for its exactly the way I feel too.
It’s not the berserker spec that is bad, it’s the core warrior that is. Elite spec are suppose to build upon your already existing specializations to give alternative game play. The problem with berserker is that is tries to build upon a flawed core system. They need to fix the core of the class before any judgement can be made about beserker.
There have been tons of feedback about this for months but Anet chooses to ignore the problem.
The core warrior is bad? Ever played a Necromancer?
The op seems a wee melodramatic. Once I made a 3800 armor warrior for kicks and could literally stand there and facetank any of the test pvp NPCs while killing them with GS AA. The heal signet + adrenalin + armor kept me alive without the need to dodge anything. Now, in a real fight you also use your block, dodges, evasion, endure pain, hard cc etc.. Id say the class is fine
GS 1 – speed up a bit or add chill to all hits
GS 2 – 1 sec evade while casting
GS 3 – range increase
GS 4 – fine as is
GS 5 – make the pull 100% reliable
These are legit requests by the way
Reapper is kind of lame and too easy to play, but that RS spinning skill, chill dmg and RS autoattack burning are just too good to pass up.
“Low quality trolling since launch” – spot on my man
Necromancer with a Greatsword… nuff said
PS: actually I woundnt mind heavy armor too. Light just doesnt do the Reaper any justice

GS in PvP?
I saw a DareDevil, then I press2 with expectation of seeing a big red number but unfortunately that DareDevil just landed me 4 Vault which is equal to my dead. So I just dug my own grave. Very name fitting there.
Haha yea probably not the best choice vs a fast, evading class.
Yes, I also think more chill would do the trick. Perhaps on all 3 hits ( 1s on the first, 2s on second, 2-3s on third ) or at least on two hits. We need something to tie in all 3 auto attacks regardless if its more speed or more chill, in order to create an actually smooth attack chain. Now it feels disconnected
I’m with you Anubris.8591. I came back to GW2 when I saw the pre-HoT Necro greatsword hype. Even made a brand new Necro and had him at 80 for the expansion. Then I joined a beta test and saw how sluggish and unreliable GS AA really is vs people. Compared to other GS auto hits its in slow-mo. The Guardian for example swings much faster but we must be fair and acknowledge his AAs also do lower damage. Perhaps we just have to take it as it is and adapt somehow because even if I do want a faster GS AA on my Reaper, they’d probably reduce the damage in order to speed it up.
To provide some context on this change:
We felt that Blighter’s Boon was providing too much survivability, especially with the amount of boon output that Heralds and Tempests can provide. (This is especially true in WvW and large PvE Zergs). I did like the interaction this trait had with your allies, but boon application from allies is too broad of a category for us to reasonably balance in all modes of the game.
We considered a lot of other possibilities for this skill including adding an ICD, limiting the procs to specific boons, limiting the number of procs from allies, but the majority of these types of fixes ended up taking agency and control away from the reaper which we felt wasn’t optimal.
Ultimately we felt this change helped to make the trait more specific to some builds rather than the best trait in all situations.
EDIT: It seems like there is some confusion about the reasons behind the change. Even though I use PvE and WvW as an example, we think it’s providing too much in all areas of the game, PvP included.
Sound logic behind this. But now would be the time to undo any negative change you have done to BB’s interaction with YAAW

<fifteen characters>Can we just stop calling them "elite specs " FKS (for kittens sake)!
They are alternate play style, they are no more elite than any other extra trait line with a new weapon. Continuing to refer to them as elite is a misnomer and propagating the fact is just getting asinine at this point. Unlocking them should be an accomplishment yes, but no more so than unlocking your other trait lines/weapons/utilities IMO.
Had to quote myself here.. if you want to call them elites so be it, but honestly they are just an alternate way to play the class otherwise you get power creep and PvP becomes VERY unbalanced.
Thank you sane person for the sound comment.

“Fade.5904:
Got Master Daredevil yesterday, played 3 days. Spend less time whining and more time playing – because that’s all i did, play the game (not grind)"
How many people in GW2 have that kind of time to spend “playing” ( grinding )? I’m willing to bet the real money spenders are actually the busy, middle class professinals who, you know, spend most of their week working, doing stuff with their loved ones, going out, going to the gym etc. These people are the bread and butter for Anet, the so called casuals who play for an hour at a time most days. When you market your expansion on the back of the Elite spec, make sure you go full disclosure on what exactly it would take to actually play it once it goes live. Anet did not do that and so now folks feel cheated. Pretty simple to uderstand no?
Actually like probably a lot of people i booked Friday off, Saturday was my day off anyway so i’ve had 2 binge days of playing, it’s not an everyday occurrence.
As hero points go, on the first map alone there are 9 hero points you can get with just gliding 1 and mushroom jumping… those take so little time to get if your joining in on events (ie playing) that’s 90 hero points right there out of your 400.
Presuming i don’t have a life or loved ones based on two days is, well…rather presumptuous and rude to be honest.
You’re still missing the point. You did the grind and enjoyed it, I dont do it and I certainly dont enjoy it even If I have all the free time in the world. And it wouldnt even be an issue if they made their plans known beforehand. But they didnt. I could’ve easily postponed purchasing HoT till I get 100% map completion and all 214 Tyria points. By the time I was done the expansion might’ve even dropped in price. Bottom line is they were hoping we’d pay for something now and at the same time they were fully aware we wont be getting the said thing till much later ( or till we commit to days of senseless grind ).
So sorry if you felt offended, wasnt my intention ’cause this post is really not about you. Its for Arenanet.

I see some awesome looking toons here, kudos to your creativity guys. However imo the game is seriously lacking in light armor variety. Like 95% of all clothing below the waist is some sort of dress/skirt. Where are the good looking necromancer themed armors?

I pre-purchaced HoT because I was really excited to play the new content and finish the old as a Reaper. What I got was that I have to play thru HoT in order to unlock the Elite, not play the Elite while completing HoT. Unless someone can show me an official message explicitly stating this was to be the case Anet has conducted some serious malpractice.
Also, sorry but giving every mob and their grannies the ability to knock the player back/down does not equate to enjoyable, challenging combat.

You save up to buy your dream car. You buy it primarily because it has features that are much better than your current car. Three days before you receive your spanking new joy ride the manufacturer contacts you by email (well after the refund date has expired) and tells you that several of its best features (the most desirable ones) will only become available once you have driven it for 20K miles. I would totally understand why those customers were not happy with the manufacturer, or indeed the car.
Ditto
sadly what ppl fail to realize is this game is about fun. why argue about x vs x? go have fun with w.e weapon you like. this game isnt all about dps, the community made it about that with try hards and “speed runs”. smh
so /flameon, since i know its coming.
Absolutely right you are. It is about having fun in whichever way works for you. Speedruns/metas be kitten ed
The sky is falling threads already ? Don’t you have other things to be worried about ?:P
@pepsis, GS isn’t weaker than Dagger unless all you compare is AA and even then GS has greater range/angle and hits 3 targets and not 2. It’s not worse at all.
It should be better and if it really is thats good. I admit I was getting a bit disillusioned about the GS after reading so many forum posts claiming its subpar. From my own testing during last 2 betas, I can say the 3rd AA hit is way too slow and thats the one thing I feel needs addressing.
Nerfs? If anything the Reaper needs more buffs. You can’t have a massive greatsword with less dps than a measly dagger. Daggers can do high dmg when equipped by assassin type classes. In conventional hack and slash, which is what Necro/Reapers do with the dagger/GS the GS should come on top. I dont know what is it with devs and the Necro class. They seem very reluctant when it comes to improving a class with blatant need of improvements.
I have a lot of ascended: multiple weps on six characters. Full armor on three and pieces on two others. I am definitely a filthy casual, playing maybe an hour and a half a day, if that. Go figure.
So its doable then, good. I work a 45 hour week, got gym 4 times/w and a ton fo other stuff beside gaming. So 5-8 hours a week for games is pretty much what i get. No asc gear yet but I also started fairly recently.
Im no PVP expert but that wee devil seems to be running with 4 boons most of the time. Wouldnt Corrupt boon/condi sending be much mure useful vs him than the wurm/well of suffering ? That would force him to try and cleanse rather than do anything else. Also wouldnt a scepter be better vs such a nimble target than a staff ?
I’m almost ashamed to admit all that forum talk about how bad the Necro/Reaper dps is and how they lack team support and how they will not have a place in high end pve etc, nearly made me stop playing the class.
Then I remembered that I play games to have fun and that Im having fun playing a Necro and soon a Reaper. And thats it
First I’ll admit I’m far from very skilled in this game. Got my 1st toon, a Necro, to 80 a few weeks ago. That being said I dont think a build as the one described in the op is possible. It sounds like the op mashes together the strongest aspects of at least 2 different builds and I just dont see this invincible reaper actually working.
PS: If such a build actually exits please share it
During the weekend I tested the build in the op. Blighter’s boon seems to work best as a healing tool in RS with Spite
Well now,
The good:
- overall the Reaper feels and looks great
- RS is awesome
- GS 3-5 are great
- Chilled to the bone is my new fav elite
The bad:
- GS 1 (auto attack) is too sluggish and the final swing is even worse
- GS 2 while having great potential has a huge tell and is way too easily avoided
- outside of Elite shout use Chill is unreliable
- The stun on RS 5 might be bugged as in not working, im not 100% on that
- GS 5 is pretty unreliable ( but great when wai)
Suggestions:
- add a bit of Chill on all GS 1 hits
- share Shout buffs with teammates, as it stands the Reaper remains the class who only buffs himself
– Rise can give Protection to allies
– YAAW shares the Might with allies
– YSIM can share healing with allies

For those still having the issue I found a fix that worked for my on the Guild Wars 2 website
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
I found that the 3rd IP on the list worked best.
Hope that helped at least one person
What he said^ plus this:
1) edit the shortcut like this “E:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80
2) then keep trying IPs from the list http://gw2status.de/
3) wait for the patcher or play

I have the same issue. 1 file remaining. I tried ‘-repair’ and forcing the client to different patch server. No dice
UPDATE: "-assetsrv 151.249.90.138:80’ – this particular address gave me back my 4mb/s download speed and that kitten remaining file was finally patched

most have more then enough Hero pts without being close to map completion
I really hope I hit 80 with enough points for reaper without map completion. I want to play the basic pve content with a greatsword.
I get the point that Necro/Reaper is all abut self buffing but is that so wrong? I mean why do we all have to be team buffers. Cant we be the enemy debuffing, sustain tanks instead? Does GW2 really have no place for tanks who, you know, actually go and tank the enemy?
Real questions btw since Im not exactly an experienced player.
:)
I actually started a Necromancer after my return to the game because I read they get to use a GS
Hi folks,
I’m running GW2 on pretty much max setting without any hiccups. That being said my mouse cursor sometimes freezes and then moves quite sporadically for a few seconds before going back to normal, smooth moving.
Anyone else had that? How did you fix it?
Intel quad core i5 3.5ghz
Radeon r9 series 2gb
8gb ram
Microsoft wireless mouse – yes I’ve heard wireless is not the best mouse for gaming but the mouse lag is not constant and it also happens with non wifi mouse.
One advice I can give is get a powerful CPU. Guild Wars 2 is quite heavy on the CPU.
I have an i5 with over 3.2ghz and it still sounds like its about to die while the game is running.
Hey there, whats the point of taking Blood Magic-Blood bond? How do you plan to apply 4 bleeds ?
Some really comprehensive posts above, I’m with the folks who gave the Necromancer a positive review. Like 2 weeks ago I returned to the game after a really long break. I bought GW2 back when it launched but never really played it. My one and only toon was a lvl 50 Guardian.
After coming back I wanted to start from scratch in order to re-learn how to play and after reading that Necros get to use a GS soon I was sold.
My Necro is currently lvl 44, I play with Dagger/WH + Staff with a mix of signets/wells and minions and let me tell you its the best fun I’ve had in a long time in any MMO. First of all this guy can solo things which used to down my Guardian. Champion elite mobs can be soloed with some good ability management and of course Shroud, veterans are a joke and even those toxic group events can be solo managed to an extent. Keep in mind this is all done with a fledgling Necromancer, build far from complete and gear is mostly from drops.
To summarize, I also read the forums and I saw all the negative posts about Necros, how they can’t be meta etc etc but thats beside the point. First, you gotta try it yourself before you listen to other’s opinions. There is a certain bunch of people, call them elitists if you want, who regardless of which game it is, always look for the quick and easy way to complete content. If you’re one of them you probably wont like the Necro. On the other hand, if you play rpgs because you like to immerse in a rich world playing the class that feels right to you, then by all means do give this one a try.
(edited by pepsis.5384)
Sooo, yeah. This bug is kind of serious.
Let me get this straight. A known bug will get a class spec nerfed? Where is the logic in that? Wouldnt they simply fix the bug instead
its working as intended. move along.
people complain about everything.
too bursty? complain.
too tanky? complain.you can’t satisfy everyone.
And what exactly do you mean by that? A ltp issue to be fixed by a nerf?
they are also quite bursty gravedigger hurts a lot when it lands (and i dont recognize animation yet so i keep tanking it with my teeth)

Why do they only have to pay $50 to play the full game with expansion but we had to pay $100. Seems legit.
You paid $50 to play for the last 2-3 years. The cost of HoT is the same for everyone.
You are absolutely right and we, who bought the game when it released, have to thank Anet for all their work.
However some form of appreciation to those of us who bought both would be quite welcome.
(edited by pepsis.5384)
Hello.
The 8k gravedigger (yes singular, ive only hit one so far in 5h) put a big smile on my face. So for pvp its pretty much safe to afk a game if u see someone wielding a GS.
But i ask poeple who know the PVE side more, is it same trash there? I heard the new mobs actually interupt, so rip necro and hi ele alt again?
Personally I would not take anyone’s word on something like that. I’d rather play it and see for myself
While I agree that the heal is a bit weak, the devs are probably wary about buffing it considering it can have a 13 second cooldown if traited. Everything about the Reaper is designed to be best when fighting multiple foes, and if the heal isn’t worth using when fighting just one, then the correct course of action is, of course, to just swap to another heal. You’re not locked into it just because you’re specced into Reaper.
I think this is pretty much spot on
A weapon, any weapon, being boring of exciting is extremely subjective. I, for one, love the slow, powerful swings of great weapons and I actually started a Necromancer just because they get to use a GS.
As I run a build that clears condi’s, even that can’t stand a Reaper’s shroud skills, my characters just are no match to the pure damage a reaper is doing and I find the reaper being just a little bit too much over powered.
Dang it, and here I’d hoped these ‘nerf threads’ were only native to the forums of crappy pay to win games like Neverwinter…
Like most of our guild members? XD Just joking, seriously, our guild is filled with very Awesome people
Ive invited you, but I’d like to talk with you sometime to get a feel for you.
Cya and stay Awesome!
Having a blast with the game and with you folks

..and now something completely different (hope so…)
very nice
I played quite a lot of soldier reaper last beta and, to be honest, there is not much difference from what you would usually run. Hoelbrack runes are pretty good to keep CC off of you, strength are great for might stacks, traveler let you stick to targets easier when in RS. I found my sustain/survivability to be good enough with soldier’s amu, so I did not go for defensive runes. Runes of the soldier are not worth it because you will not be running shouts, and you are much more valuable as a debuffer rather than as support.
Why wouldnt we run shout? They seem quite awesome, doing damage, giving buffs, debuffing the enemy and reducing CD based on # of targets hit. On paper at least they sound great
