Toxicity in PvP - here's why.

“If you are playing PvP casually in a happy-go-lucky way you should not be playing in leagues.”

Thanks op, great advice. What about the “pro players” who premade an troll soloq unranked? Keep the filthy casuals away from leagues right? Fine! Personally I wont ever step a foot in there but who’s going to keep unranked fair hmm?

Arenanet laid the foundation for what is deemed toxic behavior. Alea iacta est. The PVP aspect of this game went to kitten far as this paying ex-customer is concerned

Bruisers and healers shouldn’t exist..

O rly? And why is that? Because Arenanet said “no trinity” ? They’ve said some other stuff that also feels outdated you know. In reality a rpg needs its class roles whether you like it or not. I’d love to be able to build a real tank who may be unable to kill anything but would also be nearly impossible to kill in return. On the other hand everyone being a berserker/condi spammer is a problem.

So uninstall this too – this game is balanced around the idea that Elite specs are the new thing and if you’re not going to pay you’re going to be underpowered. Your team will rage at you and for good reason.

Almost all ( if not all ) elite specs are clear upgrades over the classic core classes – so you’re holding your team back if you don’t have elite specs.

So what exactly does your comment mean? Its not helpings the OP’s cause and it surely aint helping the game’s cause.

And while Im at it, holy crap at the number of toxic posters on this thread who pretty much consolidate the op’s point. Do the forums have ‘ignore’ too?

This is precisely why WOW is in the state that’s it in. Too many complained about things and so Blizzard dumb stuff down to point where people can faceroll content and get epic loot, and then there’s garrisons; a facebook game. Basically if you keep complaining Anet – in an attempt to keep people from leaving – is going to naturally dumb down the difficulty and then you’ll have a game WITH no difficulty.

Please don’t be that guy.

Difficulty as in a real challenge to your player skills you can find only in PVP. Dumbing down the jungle wont affect this one bit. Want it hard? Want to die? You can do that anytime in pvp.

Atma.4175, dont beat yourself up over the jungle. Play your characters in core Tyria, have all possible hero points unlocked, maybe even craft an asc weapon or two and after you feel strong with a class and his (partially unlocked) elite then try HoT again. While I tend to agree with people who dislike the jungle for my own reasons, it is not impossible to play solo there. You still can do it to a degree but its imperative you find a play style you like that also works there. Forcing yourself to play a certain way/build/class because of meta or whatever will not work and will only lead to more frustration.

I am a solo player mostly and I currently have 3 of my characters with fully unlocked elites and 2 other are on the way. Honestly tho, once I have enough hero points I dont go back to the jungle. This in itself is quite indicative.

L2P - I did HOT Why can't you?

I didn’t find any of it to be really “hard”, but there was plenty that was annoying. I am also more of a “solo” player if I am doing PvE, I can’t have my WvW friends knowing that I am doing PvE so I must do it alone.

Kidding aside, soloing a lot of those hero points was either a major pain or just impossible. I did require help from map chat or from friends to complete a decent amount of the hero points from HoT areas, but I suppose it encourages group play and meeting people, which is what MMOs are traditionally about anyway.

“encourages group play”

Does it really? How many times after you called people to help with a HP did you remain in a party with said people for more shared activities?

I’ve called people for HP help too and after its done we all type a “ty” in chat and go about our merry way. There is no such thing as forcing people into groups, it doesnt exist. People either get together because they want or they dont regardless of content being easy or hard.

L2P - I did HOT Why can't you?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

pepsis.5384

I am an experienced casual player. 13K APs, 950 WVW rank, Closer to the Stars, done dungeons, raids, crafted ascended gear etc, etc. I’ve read quite a few honest postings about frustrations with HOT, and the trend in responses has been to respond to the OP by saying “learn to play better” or “I did it just fine, there is something the matter with you.”

I personally find HOT uninviting as a solo PVE player. It lacks the difficulty progression structure present in most games. It demands group (zerg) participation for individual rewards. It requires the development of mobility masteries to effectively access map areas efficiently. It loads the player with an ocean of inventory filling currencies or keys. It creates an unprecedented level of grind for goals.

I’ve completed the HOT personal story with a rev, and moved partially through with 4 other characters.

I’ve completed the new specializations with all classes. I find them fun and interesting additions to the game (imo the best part of the expansion) – getting HOT HPs pretty annoying of course. I must admit, I turned in some WVW credits to unlock some HOT HPs.

I was really looking forward to HOT, but am truly ambivalent about the expansion maps at this point – even with the nerfs.

I find myself now checking in, hitting the daily and getting out.

Pretty sure I won’t buy another GW2 expansion – especially if it follows the map design and skill progression structure HOT model. It’s a shame – I am a long time dedicated GW player – sorry to see the franchise pick this path.

My core point is, telling an OP that is frustrated with HOT to “L2P” or “I did it, what is the matter with you?” is missing the mark. There are authentic design departures here, and they are not friendly to the casual player.

HoT is not hard, not at all. If anything core Tyria is too easy. HoT is easy mode if you play a ranged class. My ranger face rolled through HoT in exotic gear with some green trinkets. I only got the HoT pets after I had finished the story. The hero challenges only really need 2 people to do them, I did everyone on AB with 2 others and they where really easy to do with my warrior. Some can be soloed. As long as you have enough room to move and your only fighting the one mob. With my other warrior I soloed the arrow head, king mushroom, chak blitzer. It’s also about what weapons you use also. Alot of fights are easier at range. Like I said if you have space the fights are easy.

Most peoples problems with HoT is they think they can face tank everything like they did in the core game. People are unwilling to change tactics. I used to be quite rigid myself. I wanted to play with the weapons I wanted to play with. Then I realised that they would not always be the best option for some fights. So I changed my ways. I tried different things. And I found things alot easier.

This I feel is the main cause of peoples frustration with HoT. There unwillingness to try a different approach.

Good for you! I on the other hand have adopted the “play it your way” motto long before Arenanet used it as a marketing tool. So, if a game denies me my playstyle with a certain class ( weapon, build etc ) I change the class. If that doesnt work I change the game.

If folks want to play melee and tank (with dodges and blocks of course) they should be able to build for it and play it. I have invested in gear making my War into a 25k HP, 3000 armor monster, so he should be able to fight almost anything with his GS. If not then Arenanet failed. This is how I see things, surely many people have different takes on the matter. Fact is GW2 shows a drop in profit according to NCsoft data. HoT aint so hot after all.

Revenant applying boons with zero effort? Wut? Got drugs mate? You do realize if the rev keeps those boons up they cant attack right? Because that energy bar will vanish. Clearly you’ve never played rev. Like most crybabies in this forum. Anyway…

Scrapper got nerfed to the point where long time engineers don’t touch the class with 10ft pole. Scrapper is an issue at low tier play.

Tempest being toxic weeeeeell … it’s pretty much the only viable build they have. Anything else cripples their team. Same goes for chronomancer.

It’s funny because people keep asking for nerfs on already nerfed into oblivion classes

I’m disappointed, I expected to see double moa.

A rev can comfortably pump out fury and swiftness all the time while attacking. Thanks to a trait we can also add a few stacks of Might to the above. So a smart Rev can provide perma Fury/Swiftness/Might to himself and party while still using all of his attacks. A rev can provide perma Protection and still kill you with AA while you’re wondering why his whole party is made up of tanks…

I main a warrior, and the sustain is real. Is it too much? Well, it’s a matter of perspective. If you believe that Druid, Revenant, Mesmer, Elem and Scrapper are okay, then the warrior is definitely okay, without a doubt. If you however believe that they’re too strong, then the warrior might indeed be too strong, and nerfing should be made globally.

By “too strong”, I mean cheese, i.e. an unreasonable skill/risk/reward ratio, provided by unbalanced skills, traits and/or utilities.

Agreed. My power Rev still feels more powerful than my power War being pretty much as tough if not tougher, having similar sustain if not more and doing more dmg with 1h sword than a War with 2h thanks to always critting and absurdly high ferocity via gear and traits.

Perma crit is usually a thing for rogues in most RPGs but here we see a heavy armor monster having access to it. Its interesting to say the least. My Rev for example while built tough (19k HP, 3000 armor with trait) has perma ~70% crit chance on sword and ~80% on hammer with 245% crit dmg. Imagine those Coalescence of ruin hits every 4 seconds from 1000 feet away.

Make Ranger Pets immortal

in PvP

Posted by: pepsis.5384

Pets need to have less health, period. As soon as you spend valuable time to focus down a pet and blowing your bar the ranger presses one button and another pet with 22k+ health comes out.

Kinda ridiculous. Pets already take 95% less damage in pve, reducing pet health would be balanced for the damage they do.

Umm right, so who spends their “valuable time” focusing pets ? Im pretty bad in PVP but even I go for the masters ignoring the pets.

Let me ask you this – Are you a NPC ? Is your “ai” so bad that you see only the pet in front of you? Cmon people, enough already.

Man seeing the promo videos for HoT got my really excited about the Reaper. I made my first necro and even leveled weaponsmithing and crafted my very fisrt asc weapon – a GS – for him. The experience was great in pve and equally abysmal in pvp.

Finally I came to a point where hacking at pve mobs was starting to annoy me so I’d go more and more into pvp, trying to make the GS work. Well I couldnt, in fact I got so hopelessly stomped when facing good players that all my GS Reaper love turned to kitten. So now my asc gs is comfortably sitting on the back of my Warrior and my Reaper is a condi spammer who I dont play anymore since I dislike condis.

I fought berserkers post April patch and their healing is way through the roof.
I don’t stand a chance against them on my power reaper.
I can only win on my condi reaper with the constant poison uptime.
And in the words of a fellow fighter, you need to kill berserkers 3 times now before you can win because of double immune pain on top of the insane healing.

The berserkers themselves admitted as much that they are top tier now.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Berserkers-now-viable-post-April-patch

But my question is, does being top tier mean they need to get nerfed?
If yes, what areas need to be toned down?
If no, do you have any advise on how a power build with no consistent poison application can win them?

Healing aside Im pretty sure the power Reaper, as awesome as it can seem is actually subpar. And second Im not sure a power Reaper, still a light armor caster really, should be able to win vs the original power monster that is the Warrior. Aye I know there are supposedly no roles here but casters picking up melee weapons should lose vs heavy armor melee specialists.

And I guess Anet agrees with this considering their treatment of Reaper GS so personally I retired my power reaper, got tired of trying to make the GS work and since thats the weapon I like I went to the dark side and made my toon condi.

I think Arenanet’s “No trinity” model failed and is now backfiring. It sounds great on paper still but somehow falls short in actual gameplay. They know that too so they are giving us more and more options to build into one of the 3 roles. We can easily make a high dps toon or a heal/support toon or a tank/support toon. Only thing we dont have are officially dedicated classes for it although we kinda do since I dont expect to have a tank thief anytime soon.

They didnt want to have a holy trinity in thier game but what we actually have now is light armored casters being able to outtank a heavy armor fighters and this sacrilege is only happening precisely because we dont have classes designed around dedicated roles. I think this is one of my major GW2 problems. I mean sure give us the abiltiy to build a character in different ways but still If I i pick a heavy armor, sword and board type I expect lasting power and if I pick a light armor, staff caster I dont expect it to simply outtank and outheal everything thrown at him..

Anyway Im thinking GW2 is a pretty hot mess right now and im kinda tired of it

Playing with friends.

Indeed this is the most fun. Unfortunately it has nothing to do with this game since it applies to any game or activity that you share with friends.

I guess what I really like about GW2 is that it manages to make me stop and look around. Even something as simple as lowly Queensdale offers amazing scenery. That is the greatest GW2 success far as im concerned. HoT is yet to make me stop and look mainly cause all I see are either vines or charging mushrooms and jumping frogs.

I know I can have fun in PVP but my experience as someone who queues solo usually boils down to one sided curbstomps thanks to ‘premade vs pug’ matchmaking.

The story is the other thing I tend to enjoy but man is it stupid sometimes. SPOILER I mean I could have easily prevented the death of Warmaster Forgal Kernsson or Tybalt Leftpaw but the game never gave me the choice. This forced drama can get pretty boring pretty fast.

Bottom line, for me exploration is the strongest aspect of GW2 (except for the HoT maps)

What are we supposed to be trying to do here? Playing a game is not a complex activity and if you repeat it enough times it will become no more than a reflex. I hear what you’re saying but I doubt you’ll get a positive response from the majority of the forum dwellers let alone Arenanet. Imho we should be able to trade in ascended just as we are able to trade in legendaries. What if someone doesnt want to spend the time and gold to level up a craft? Look at the world, do you become an engineer and build a car if you want to drive it or do you go and buy one?

Personally I spent months focusing on farming mats and still like 300g on top of that in order to level my craft and make 2 ascended weapons. My sense of accomplishment was extremely short lived and I feel kinda burnt out on the whole crafting thing. I would have preferred to just buy the weapons.

Considering I have no more than 1 or 2 hours to play per day I’ve decided to just not care about ascended armor and completely disregard legendary gear as if it doenst exist. Id rather spend my limited time not thinking of what grind i must endure just to obtain a new shiny.

Karma gear is one option, the other is to spend around 20 gold on the market ( a sum easily made in a few days by selling materials ). Take your time to browse the market and pick the cheapest pieces but keep in mind what stats you are going for. For example if your class has easy access to critical chance boosts you can go with more health/armor, high ferocity, average critical stat and still do good damage while being more tanky.

You got it right. Now the only thing that remains is to asnwer one question for yourself – Is it worth it? For me it isnt. If Anet wants to establish GW2 PVP as a competitive esport they need to take these steps asap and continue from there:

1 – create a separate pve and pvp build in regard of all class abilities
2 – have soloQ vs soloQ and premade vs premade, not mix and match
3 – do their best to balance the classes for the pvp build ( pve is way more forgiving )

Until then pvp will be more of a hot mess than the actual hot

Took me awhile to learn my lesson regarding pvp in mmorpgs. I was stuck in Neverwinter for longer than i care to admit, perpetually chasing the next tier of pvp gear and the latest top enchantments just so I wouldnt be at a disadvantage when I queue. I was blind to the blatant class imbalance and the intended inequality that the devs imposed on the players in order to boost sales. GW2 doesnt sell you gear, Arenanet’s goals are more complex and their actions more subtle. Still they refuse to aknowledge class stacking and the fact that pemades stomp pugs way too often. This tells me the pvp in GW2 is heading in a bad direction and I need to gtfo. So thats what im doing.

I feel left behind as a player

Posted by: pepsis.5384

pepsis.5384

Whenever I log onto to play PvP these days, it’s just a blowout. Match after match of getting just shredded by coordinated teams of players using the most meta of meta builds they can find. Even when I win, I don’t get that feeling of satisfaction. I generally don’t know why we won, and usually didn’t contribute to the win.

Basically, I love Guild Wars 2. I’m not a fanatical player. I play when I have time, and I tend to stick with PvE, but in most other games, I love PvP, and tend to be able to hold my own. However, I feel like this game’s PvP was hard to understand before Heart of the Thorns, and now it’s just completely beyond me. Nowadays, I log in, and spend most of my time dead. I don’t even get time to figure out my mistakes because most fights end with me blowing up in half second, and I don’t even have time to decipher which of the 10 ridiculous particle effects killed me. Readability is a big issue for me.

I’m willing to invest time into a game, but generally that game has to be fun on some level first. I keep giving this game’s multiplayer a shot, because my friend and I were big fans of Guild Wars 1’s PvP, but we both feel there is no place for the casual player anymore. The point of entry is too high. There’s a mountain of mechanics to go through. The game is blinding fast, and requires incredible reflexes and precise dexterity to hit combos.

If I could log on, and have an even match where I felt my opponents and teammates were at a similar level of experience, I could slowly get into this. Did anybody else really love GW1 PvP, but hasn’t found any enjoyment from 2’s?

I know this is whining, but honestly, I just miss having a Guild Wars like game to play PvP in, and it sorta feels like all of the people of average video game ability have been sorta waysided in favor of this small, dedicated fanbase. Great if you are one of those people, but I wish for the days when Guild Wars was more inclusive, and I feel there is room for both audiences to exist without sacrificing in quality for either group.

Also, advice is always fine. My friend nor I never last long enough to ever figure out anything beyond how to wait for the death timer to come back up.

I happen to know exactly what you mean and how you feel since what you described has been my experience as well. I tried a few matches this past weekend, soloQ, faced organized groups every time. At this point the best solution is to just say F it. You dont owe anything to this game, you dont have to train yourself, you dont have to brainwash yourself into only thinking of what button sequence to press, you dont need a 100 euro gaming mouse. Basically if the game requires any of the above from you just so you can enjoy a certain aspect of it ( pvp in this case ) then the game is worthless. Artificially pushed into a mess of mechanics and inequality. Three major sins exist in the pvp aspect of online games – gear inequality, class imbalance, team compositions. GW 2 has the gear covered but is guilty of the other two. Here you will find class stacking and premade vs pug most of the time.
So let it go. They dont care about you, the casual player. They want to enforce hardcore pvp to fuel their esport bs. Let them. Dont bother yourself with something that was designed to frustrate you.

I dont feel we got nerfed, however the elite shout needs to be tweaked. Similar abilities from other classes have lower base cooldowns. For example Jade Winds performs the same way as Chilled to the bone without the chill, only it has lower cast time, super low cooldown, does higher damage thanks to the Heralds always-crit chance and high ferocity, stuns for longer and if you watch your energy level you can pretty much use it as soon as its out of CD.

Even with 5 targets hit and Augury the Necro elite shout is 60 seconds CD. Jade Winds can spam 3 seconds hard CC and high aoe damage every 5 seconds. Stability is a non factor here.

People want to play the warrior to be this sustain machine. As soon as they accept the fact that we have good, hard, reliable, cc and some insane dps we can put a ton of pressure on these “meta” classes, the better off they will be. I personally have never had an issue in spvp, even versus meta classes, I mean I down necros and mesmers fairly easy, maybe they are bad? Maybe I’m just better?

It takes work, and situational awareness to play warrior, you cant just mash buttons and win most times, but it can be done.

We just have a bad stigma.

In my experience the percieved status of a class usually does not reflect the actual status of the class. People start saying class X is bad and suddently everyone acts like that’s true without actually having tested the class for themselves. There were plentry of Wars who kicked major kitten even while their class was deemed the weakest in the current meta.

Premade vs non premade....is it fair?

pepsis.5384

So many people here just don’t seem to get it or more likely don’t want to. I’m guessing those who don’t want to are part of the premade groups hunting solo folks in unranked.

Its simple really. A person who goes solo in a match should be auto-grouped with 9 other people who went in solo. This is important for at least two reasons:

1) all the solo guys get to make mistakes and learn from them in a more forgiving environment. Thus, if they keep at it sooner or later they will become better pvp players and move on to party queue and ranked

2) it avoids massive, one-sided stomps which are bad because newer/solo players just die without learning a kitten thing about playing their class better and more importantly because it avoids frustration. Believe me when I tell you this level of unfair in pvp matchmaking leads to the kind of frustration which once accumulated leads to dead pvp. Ive seen it happen in more than one game, latest in Neverwinter where queue waiting went from very short to 15-30 minutes when most players got fed up and simply gave up. You don’t want that happening here if you truly enjoy pvp.

On the other hand if the only thing you actually like is pug stomping, if what you enjoy is to appear superior over total strangers thanks to unfair party advantage then by all means continue to defend a bad situation thus making it worse.

I know what you mean op. The new maps tend to create this feeling as if the world is closing in on you. ArenaNet’s weirdly narrow field of view doesnt help either. But if you zoom out in the jungle you lose sight of your toon and surrounding at times.

HoT monsters need a serious review. Right now they are balanced illogically and unintuitively and this is me politely stating how kittening stupid the current HoT mob design is. You have a massive veteran creature that looks like the xenomorph queen, you expect it to be a big threat but very soon it becomes clear you can basically stay in front of it and AFK auto-attack it to death. Its not a threat at all. Then you have these tiny mobs like the pocket raptors eating away 600 to 1000 hp with each bite.

Yeah because size is the most important criteria to judge an enemy.

I mean everybody knows that cows are a hundred times more dangerous than venomous snakes because they are much bigger. ;-)

Really? What would hurt more, a cat scratching you or a tiger rending flesh from bone with his claws? Ingame – a giant creature that looks like it can snap a Charr in two or a tiny lizard that looks like it could die if you step on it?

Sorry man, your attempt at a humorous reply is ill placed, Im genuinely unhappy with Arenanet’s design choices.

It’s not difficult though in open world. It’s just annoying.

Dark Souls is difficult. Dark Soul’s difficulty is painstakingly crafted to be fair and to provide multiple ways for players of different styles to beat the content.

Heart of Thorn’s difficulty is not. It’s just the same simplistic AI with the damage turned way up and no thought to all about balance or fairness. Some mobs are ridiculously over tuned while most others are incredibly trivial.

There was clearly no thought as to whether or not some of these over-tuned mechanics could be handled fairly.

It falls it the category of “We’ll just randomly one shot people during Dragon Stand to create the illusion of things being really really hard”

This guy gets it ^

ANet did this for Orr and I don’t think it worked out best for the game. It’s nice that it’s easier to navigate Orr, but it also means that there’s little interest in going there except for event (or tree) farms.

Similarly, people complained about Dry Top and Silverwastes being too difficult to navigate.

I want new zones to be progressively more difficult because my sense of progression is how well I’m able to get around. I think the game would be duller if Magus Falls was nerfed down to the difficulty of other zones.

They have JPs for your target group, HoT however nearly turned the game into a giant platformer. Thats a no-no for me

Then you have these tiny mobs like the pocket raptors eating away 600 to 1000 hp with each bite – from a character with 2800 armor – and they bite really fast. Or the rolling devil, a small, not even veteran mob that can hit for 2k non crit on a tanky char. That is major kitten right there. Trash mobs capable of pushing me to the brink unless I fight them seriously? But im supposed to be this epic hero of shaemoor! Remember? Im here with a good build and great gear, I shouldnt be pushed around by trash.

Next are animations. There are these smaller, bipedal , non-veteran lizards ( sometimes solo, sometimes with a mordrem rider). They, like almost any other HoT mob, can knock your char back or down but the animation is plain wrong. So what the lizard basically does is circle around in one place and your toon is knocked, the timing is such that once knocked the lizard charges you for another knock just before you’re able to recover (without poping a stun break). Attacks that disable or are dangerous need to be telegraphed better. EDIT: Kinda like trolls, they look around and you’re dazed, what the heck is that?

Next is the short mob description under the name. Example " poisons, bleeds, evades " and you prepare for condis and missed attacks but then the first thing the critter does is knock you down. Really Anet? The lil kittener can disable me but you didnt think it prudent to list that in there? Dont get me started on the excess of CC in HoT. The expansion mobs are nothing but unimpressive critters with CC slapped to almost every move and damage modifier turned up to 11.

Does all that make the xpack unplayable for me? No, I played thru it with 3 different classes, mix of exotic/ascended gear. Its quite doable once you get the hang of the overabundant cc. But it is still as kittening annoying today as the first time I set foot in the jungle.

So, if the goal with HoT was to keep a player annoyed, then job well done Anet.

Warrior needs to be a main Tank again.

So as the title states, I’d like to see the warrior a Viable Tank again like it’s predecessors in Guild Wars 1 use to be. Now to those of you who argue Warrior was never a tank in Guild Wars 1 can take your Perma Shadow Form Assassins and just leave now… Cause I’m not discussing Meta Tank Builds any further than this post.

After reading and listening to the current Meta, I’m disappointed to see that two of GW2’s Lightest armor classes are the best tanks (Chronomancer and Reaper) and what for? Cause they deal the most damage wile tanking… I don’t quite understand it, I’ve run an all Defensive based Warrior since the beginning of the game currently sitting in full Nomads armor (Laugh if you want I don’t care) Shouldn’t the heaviest classes be the best tanks? Or has Arena Net forgotten that little detail.

All I see and hear on this forum are “WARRIOR CAN’T DEAL ENOUGH DAMAGE!” or “NERF WARRIOR DAMAGE!” Excuse the caps, but to me it’s gotten rather old… So I ask why can’t the warrior, guardian, or even the revenant, be a successful tank in the Mainstream? Heck I wouldn’t care if an Elite Specialization in the future would fix that but as it stand now, Defensive Gear gets no love in “Berserker Meta Wars 2” And the Devs seem happy and content not utilizing all the armor set types to the fullest potential.

Now don’t mistake this for a mad rant complaint post, I am just generally upset over how this mechanic never seemed to ever appear despite the options to do so given to us in the game through stats, traits and upgrade components. So simply put I would like to hear what others have to think of this subject and maybe a response from a Dev ( doubt I’ll see that). So lets just have a calm and collective discussion here if you please. Thank you.

Im definitely with you on the whole " High armor classes should be tough, cloth classes should be squishy " theme. It makes sense, however Anet never struck me as logical. In their quest to be different they mess as much as they get right.

Well good thing then that changing a build is as easy as 1,2,3 here. Cause you know, some games, when they patch a class its done. No going back

PS: Esp. loved how the first berserker got owned in the video posted by Hoaxintelligence.4628. Although I dont know how will that warrior fare against someone who returns conditions. Also why is that build not available in pvp? Apothecary amulet sounds awesome.

PS2: Im actually glad this aint possible in pvp. This war heals like the wolverine

Why is there no Anti-Condi stat?

in Warrior

Posted by: pepsis.5384

pepsis.5384

Imho, it’s because condi isn’t that strong. In the vast majority of classes, the meta build is a power build, despite toughness and condi not having what you are proposing. There’s a reason for that. I am not a strong number-crunchy guy when it comes to that stuff, but it’s really hard to burst with condi, but it is practically cake to do with most professions with power. And from what I’ve observed, most of pvp comes down to getting off that burst to knock the other guy to downed.

Edit: I’m specifically talking about condi damage btw, since that is what the stat is for. The condi damage stat has no effect on non-damaging conditions, like vulnerability. Those conditions aren’t stat dependent at all, and thus I’m leaving them out of consideration (since your question was based on the power/toughness model.)

Very well put. Id like to add something more to it. I main a Reaper and Im one of those stubborn ones who play power. Anyway most people complain how strong the condi reaper is and he is indeed strong. But think about it, the match starts, the condi reaper goes to a point. He starts applying his conditions: poison, bleeding, chill, torment and.. and nothing. Even if he hits you with signet of spite on top of all other condis he can not burst kill you. He can gradually wear you down, in some cases faster, in some cases slower. At the same time he started that same match with zero life force and a competent power build cat eat thru his 25k (merc) or 19k(rabid) health in no time. Bottom line is a burst dmg power build with some condi cleanse should be able to annihilate a condi build. But you cant go into a match with no condi cleanse skills and expect to just sit there and power kill everything.

Since this is a warrior topic originally I can say this much. While on my Reaper I have faced warriors who I can scrap with in close combat and kill quite handily ( reaper shroud included). Ive also faced warriors with gs who do so much damage they make me not want to stay in melee. They put such tremendous burst pressure on my reaper that when the fight or flight response kicks in I want to fly. I want to run away. Again, like most things in this game it comes down to the specific encounter and the skill level of both involved parties.

In a perfect world every class with every build (that has some sort of synergy) should be able to kill any other class with good enough mechanical knowledge. Things like hardcounters should be ridiculed on. That’s what makes a balanced game.

ANet balance team disagrees

I wonder how league of legends does it

Who’s to say a perfect world means that every class with every build kills any other class/build? Thats completely illogical imo. A light rogue should not be able to kill a heavy tank. Ya sure, Anet said no holy trinity which is also bs anyway. You cant walk away from class diversification. You have frontline melee fighters who absolutely must have high hp, armor, damage negations in order to survive and fulfil ltheir role. Whats all that mean? It means in any sort of remotely perfect world we would have unique classes with unique strengths and weaknesses who might be able to counter each other to a degree but mostly a certain class/build would be a hard counter to another class/build, while a different class/build would be incapable to do squat against yet another.. You know A>B, B>C, C>A.. There is no such thing as equality in class balancing. We cant all be superman with super strength, super speed, super farts, super everything

Sooo let me get this straight.

You guys mind been hit for 8-9k by precision strike

But you are perfectly fine getting shot for 10k+ by true shot on similar cooldown by DH?

Makes kittening sense yo.

Also before complaining about revenant, try playing one. See how many kills you make and how many times you die. You are bad on it and you are bad against it.

Just facts of life.

P.S: Necromancers are a lot more powerful than revenants.

While I agree with you generally your last statement in the PS is BS. In the most crucial moment of a match, the beginning, necromancers are crippled thanks to empty LF bar and usually end up focused and killed, after which they start again with empty LF bar. Revs on the other hand are able to put forward their full power from the get go, they can burst like a nuclear bomber and block damage like a tank. Even if we assume and its a big if, that equally played a Necro with full LF is more powerful than a Rev, you’d still start a match with an empty tank as a necro and that balances things out.

I have to argue a few points, in your own post you talk about how warrior could do alot better with a minor sustain buff and other classes getting nerfed.

Thats alot to happen

You also mentioned certain weapons needing nerfed and damage reduction. I posted about warrior DPS and my complaints about it. Do you realize that that guardian DH bow skill 2, rev sword skill 2 and enchanting daggers and staff 5 and etc etc etc, a number of other skills does more damage then warrior beserk great sword skill F1?

I posted about how i did less then 2k damage and everyone said warrior dps is fine. Cute, when other classes do more damage and dont have to set it up its a problem.

Gun flame does a ton of damage but do you realize what you are shooting into? Eles magnetic aura from a shout-overload-warhorn 4 and a personal from focus. Not including mesmer reflects by trait, engy has a ton and its crap, warriors shield.

Im seriously tired of people posting ohhh ive had success but yes there is problems. This class has the worst sustain in the game and even when fully geared out in either condi or damage gear/runes/sigils it still does less damage then other classes.

Thanks for constructive comments. I think we are on the same page. I fully agree that the lack of sustain is the biggest problem of the warrior. The sustain is scattered all over into so many trait trees that if you spec all into sustain, your DPS will be really laughable and your sustain is still going to be worse off compared to top meta specs. On the other hand if you take all the offensive traits of the warrior + DPS weapons + DPS/burst sigils/runes, the DPS is actually pretty good, but not the best, but the sustain is just horrible. You will die against better teams for sure. I feel this is so wrong, warrior should be da man, able to last in combat, instead of being a hit and run profession. That role is mainly for thief and I don’t want warrior made into 2nd thief.

I forgot to include one buff to warrior sustain: increase the base heal of shouts by 200. It might not sound much, but if you make a full shout spec and the “To the Limit!” get its CD reduced to 25 (20 s traited), then we could get once again a bit more sustain, about 34 hp/s more. “On My Mark!” and “Fear Me!” could be have their CD lowered slightly e.g. from 30->25 s and 60->50 s (traited CDs would be 20 s and 40 s).

If you look at my post history, I have also asked Arenanet to nerf Dragonhunter longbow #2 damage. It is simply way too high for a piercing 4 s CD skill. Dragonhunter traps, at least the elite, should also be made more visible. Dozens or more DHs stacking traps in WvWvW makes the combat not fun at all. Revenant has multiple problems, but since my experience on playing that profession is so small, I don’t want to comment it too much.

Even I have spent most of my time playing an engineer and I currently play a scrapper engi in spvp, I agree that engineer hammer needs to be nerfed. A simple 20% CD increase for skills #2-5 won’t be enough as it would still be selected over rifle or pistol/shield. I don’t understand whey they gave engi hammer skills like #4, shock shield, which does good damage and blocks at same time. It should do either, but not both. The sneak gyro elite is also too powerful and needs to have an activation time, instead of being instant cast. At the same time I really hope Arenanet doesn’t nerf the core engineer. Core engineer isn’t really all that powerful compared to the rest of the meta or scrapper. And engi has skills, which would need some love (medkit and and most the gadgets outside slick shoes, which is powerful).

I am for Arenanet nerfing/toning down all the other elite specs. If they don’t do this, I am afraid even all of my suggestions won’t bring warrior back to meta.

Regarding engi/scrapper. Of course the hammer would be picked over pistol/rifle etc. Its the weapon of the new spec. It has all that utility and dmg because the class itself doesnt have 2 weapons sets (I dont think kits count, they’re like an ele’s attunements).
Why would anyone want to buy HoT, unlock a scrapper and still use a pistol? Do you want the fate of the reaper for the scrapper? I was so excited man, greatsword for reapers! Heck yeah! Then it came and it was so awesome.. in pve. In pvp they laugh at you for even trying a gs and rightly so. It doesnt work. The scrapper’s hammer works in pve and pvp. Good job on that one Anet. Now if only you could make the necro GS work the same way. Bottom line, the hammer scrapper build offers those of us who like the melee approach, a new way to play an old class… and it can be countered just like any other build.

PS: You do realize the hammer build indicates more or less melee combat style right? Range, as in rifle and to a lesser degree pistol, provides its own layer of extra defence, i.e. you attack from range. And if a kit was to be the scrapper’s ranged option.. Sure try to stand 900f from a ranger/dh and exchange shots, see what happens. I see the engi as a long range initiator and mid range specialist with all the utility he has access to. I see the scrapper as a melee specialist.

I dont hate on warriors. In fact hating on a person for playing his class of choice is extremely stupid. In fact hating on anything in an online games is extremely stupid.

What does annoy me though is the severe discrepancy in skill level between opposing teams. It happens way too often for comfort. It would be OK if once or twice you end up with folks of low skill level, heck I wouldnt mind being grouped with them all the time because I acknowledge my own skill level as low. But when a team of such players is repeatedly pit vs folks who are obvious experts with the class they play. Who know how to focus someone down while your own team runs aimlessly, who know how to use the map to their advantage while your team is lost on the way to the points… That simply put, sucks. People of similar skill should play together, make mistakes together and gradually learn how to rotate, what to use and when. They can not learn while being stomped in seconds by heavy focused fire can they?

Matchmaking is so bad.
