This is how I think this should have played out from the start

I know tons of people are not happy about the bad odds of the chests and the amount of mats it takes to make stuff in the forge yada yada yada. I am NOT one of those people. I played the slots and lost. I’m not sad or mad about it. It is what it is. I, however, AM one of those people that think things probably could have been handled differently.
What would have been a better idea would have been to take the four hour rentables totally out of the game and replace them with Karma/candy corn (or a combo of both) with permanent weapons that were not as cool as anything else you could get through more time and effort. Add a slightly better looking set (obtainable in game) as an extremely rare trick or treat bag drop. I’m talking like as rare as a black lion chest key. Lastly, have the best looking stuff come from the mystic forge using the same method as is currently in place (similar to legendaries). Not the recipes but the actual items and they should be soulbound. The alternet method for getting those extremely hard to make things (for most people) should be to buy said items as a skin through diamonds. Like around 1k of them.
Everyone gets at least something halloweeny that isn’t rentable and they can keep around. Everyone gets a good shot at something pretty cool, but not guaranteed. People can work very very hard to create the best weapon for whatever char they play as a main or…they can spend money and buy it the easy way.
In short.
Three sets of weapons, that are better looking the harder they are to get (unless you spend money).

Should I feel bad about spending real mony on gems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: prenavo.3926

prenavo.3926

If I could afford to buy them with real money, I would. The reason I would is because it helps to support the game and ensures that more content will come out in the future. As long as someone is either buying the base game or buying stuff off the diamond store, then the game is being supported. I wouldn’t feel bad at all about that. That’s like being a sponsor for the game imho.
I fully plan on spending money on diamonds as soon as I’m financially able.

This is why I have great faith in Anet. They DO listen to the complaints and concerns of players. While the game may be far from perfect I’d be willing to bet that over time the game will improve in ways that most people can’t even begin to think of at the moment. That is not to say that they will just listen to one majority or minority or whatever and adjust to every players’ whim. They will take everything into consideration and follow what they believe is best for the game. There are tons of things in this game I don’t like, but I believe the good far exceeds the bad, and I believe that things can only get better. The only thing we as players must do is have some patience with things.

I have three. The first was when I ran into an escort event with a raccoon named Chief Churpa (Star Wars). The second was when I was doing another one with an NPC named Muldoon or something similar and he says, “Clever Girl” (Jurassic Park). My favorite has got to be the Goonies themed Jumping puzzle. Totally cool that this stuff was thrown into the game.

Orr with my guardian was easy as pie. I rarely die and hunt ori ore solo all over the zone. Do people really find Orr hard?

not hard; supremely annoying. Some days, I feel like Orr is perfectly fine, then the mobs decide to play ping pong with my CC prone carcass, one knocks me back into range of another mob aggro so he decides to pull me which puts me in range of another. Then that 3rd one knocks me down/roots me, where the first mob decides he can play the pull game as well so there goes my toon flying back where he came from before something pulls me to yet another area.

I ended up dying because I couldn’t even cast my heals before I got another CC. that happened to me last night and all I did was spend 10 seconds watching my toon completely out of my own control.

Not hard, annoying.

LOL, I had this very issue just the other day. Wife and I were playing and went down to the beach I got chain pulled by the mobs five times and ended up all the way down the beach. It was annoying yet somehow funny at the same time. Those mobs that pull have got to be changed. They suck. That said, I’ve not really had too hard of a time soloing, but it can be hard in some areas. I’m sure that may change with better gear in time though.

What about asking the often silent majority?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

prenavo.3926

I’m pretty sure the so called “silent majority” are well aware of the forums. If they felt like they needed to throw their two cents in they probably would. As is, though, if there turns out to be something they don’t like in the game or that something needs changed and they don’t mention it, who’s fault is it really? There are links right to the GW2 main page right on the launcher.
Maybe the way to approach this is the next time you see someone who is complaining about something in game…direct them to the forum. Or someone who has a great idea…tell them to go post it on the forums. My guess is that if the people who are playing the game that never visit or post to the forums or make themselves heard they probably won’t take the time to fill out a survey either.

I really wanna get the achievement for this one, so if anyone would be so kind as to explain to me (in a book for dummies kind of way) how this works I would forever be grateful. A function on the UI that enables you to switch out between town cloths or regular armor without having to go to the hero tab. Perhaps put into options the ability to also automatically switch it so you don’t have to. Enter combat, your town cloths disappear and are replaced by your normal armor. Leave combat and they reappear.
That and of course more available town clothing.

Necro Pets

I like the pets currently as they are, but I would like to see a little more variety. I also love the way rangers get their pets. I’m think it would be cool to have a system put in similar to the rangers for Necros. Come across certain types of undead, give the necro the ability to enslave them and pick them from a list. to use in place of one of the current pets. More or less a skin as they could have the same ability as the current pets. Make the list that you can choose from in your pet browser be segregated by what pet it would replace in your abilities.

For example. You have unlocked flesh golem and come across a skeletal knight you like the look of. You enslave the knight and then look him up in your pet browser and see that your skeletal knight can replace your flesh golem in appearance. All of the skills for the flesh golem are still there, you just have a better looking or more unique skin for him. It’s more about personal customization than stats that way and nothing falls out of balance.

Are MMO players trained to play for progression...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: prenavo.3926

prenavo.3926

Of course mmo players are trained for progression. It’s just how it has always been in most games. I love gw2, but I also believe that some of the problem with mmo’s are the lack of social activities. Now, you might be thinking mmo’s are pretty social, but not all that much and not nearly as much as they used to be prior to WoW. I can still remember the names of half the members of the first guild I created in EQ1 all the way back in 2000, and quite a few that were not even in my guild. That is not to say that EQ1 was a perfect game by any means, but I think they had a formula that worked for the social aspects. Having to be in a group to do a lot of things was part of it. Long periods of being in one spot for hours with people was part of it. You tended to get to know the people you were hanging out with when you had to camp mobs for a specific purpose. I myself didn’t always like the wait time, but when it worked out, you felt like you accomplished something great, even if it was small by game standards.
Then there was the leveling. Back then there was no such thing as lvl 80 in a week or less. It could take well over a year to get to max level depending on the play time you had available. Was it a grind? Heck yeah it was a grind, but we all felt like it was worth it back then. Would I want to do the grind again? Not really, but it was one of those things that was just a means to an end, and while you were doing it you were making friends while waiting on spawn timers. No one really knew what hardcore was back then because everything about that game by todays standards was hardcore. I guess hardcore in eq1 back when played meant being able to raid the plane of time, but we didn’t really think in those terms. It was more like, “Wow, they have a good guild.”
Loot was mob specific. Bone chips fell from skeletons etc etc. Dragons had their own loot table that no other monster had, and when you went up against it, there was no guarantee that the loot that dropped would be for you. This makes people think like someone with a gambling addiction btw. It’s what made people want to play more.
Do I like how it used to be? I liked it then, but I can’t say that I’d like it as much now, although I do believe that the level cap should take more time to reach (even though in this game it doesn’t really matter that much) and more things should be added in (player housing, the rest of the activities, repeatable holiday events etc. etc.) And gear specific to the mobs it comes from. Sorry, I’ve just always liked that system, but I know I’ll never see it again.
I’ve played alot of games including eq, eq2, WoW, SWG, Rift, The Old Republic, Star Trek Online, D&D Online and a few others, I think that GW2 is the game I’ve had the most fun in since EQ1 and EQ2. Sorry if this was a long useless trip down memory lane from me, and probably don’t contribute to the topic at all, but I’m tired.

Aggro/Hate Mechanics

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: prenavo.3926

prenavo.3926

I primarily play a warrior. In a level appropriate zone I’ve gained aggro from mobs from the first hit to the last (Veteran/Champion). I’ve kited them around with my bow and have even attempted to break line of sight and lose distance. Not in every single instance has this happened, but more than not. I’m specced for defense in my traits. I’m wondering if the game takes into consideration how your set up with traits. To me traits define your character almost like the trinity. If you wanna spec tanky, you can…so maybe the game recognizes that and makes the mob go to the ones with more defense. I’m probably wrong, but it would almost make sense.

SWtoR had that feature where stuff would stop dropping from mobs after so many kills. It’s not a big deal as long as they start dropping again eventually. So far I’ve noticed nothing different, but my play time is erratic due to me having to log in and out several times a day for RL. I do agree a little clarification on the subject would be nice so everyone is not so in the dark.

Crash/Black Screen Issue (NVIDIA)

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: prenavo.3926

prenavo.3926

I used to have the black screen crash.

Im playing since launch on a Intel core 2 Duo so i suffer an evident cpu bottleneck. Anyway, as the cpu was working at full capacity, i played a bit with the in game graphic options setting them a bit higher than default.

A couple of days later, i got the black screen of death with the music playing on the background but everything frozen. No alt tab or alt f4 worked.

Also, getting back to the lower graphic settings helped me playing a bit more, maybe 30 or 40 mins more but always crashing with said black screen. With higher graphic settings it crashed just at logging at the game world.

Today i have tried to underclock my gpu a 10% (nvidia gforce 9600m gt) and give a try the solution someone posted above here. The result is a 100% no black screen with 10 hours of continuous gameplay. The temps are ok and the fps are intact (no real decrease with that 10% underclock. I used msi afterburner).

Hope this can help someone.

P.D Sorry about my english, it is not my native language.

I took this advice shortly after making my original reply to this thread and it seems to have cured my problem. That said however, unless you know exactly what your doing be very careful if you attempt this. While underclocking your card is probably safer than overclocking it, bad things can still happen to your card and your system if you make a mistake. Please read all the documentation for programs like msi afterburn if your unsure about anything you see, or better yet, find someone who has experience doing it. You can also use a stability testing program like furmark to check the temp and overall stability of your card just to be on the safer end of things.
I still believe that this is an operation that shouldn’t have to be done and that Anet really needs to get a handle on this problem. No one should have to underclock their card to make a game where the min/max required specs are met.

put ur char up against a wall and ur golden

Yeah, don’t work for me. If I’m in a cave or underwater, I blackscreen until it crashes with the driver error. don’t know how many times I’ve been killed due to this nastiness. I do know that this should be one of Anets top priorities because I suspect that there are probably scores of other people having this issue that just haven’t spoken about it yet. I’m afraid I’ll never see the inside of a dungeon because of this problem. I shouldn’t have to custom craft my own solutions for something that is really looking like it’s not a hardware issue as much as a game issue, especially considering I can run other games with no issues at all.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this game, and will continue to play where I can, but really guys, Anet should be figuring out a fix for this as it is a game breaking problem for many people. This isn’t beta anymore (which is kinda sad considering the game worked like a charm when I was in a bwe).

Make mounts only as fast as the highest and longest lasting speed buff. Make them totally cancel out if you go within the orange borders of a dynamic event. That way you don’t have a ton of people riding around on mounts blocking your view as you try to complete the event.
mounts could also be used as a money sink (unless you’ve earned a permanent one through a particularly hard event/dungeon) in that you could have rent-able mounts for all levels that move a slower pace than the earned ones. It could be a good replacement to the higher quick travel fees as a money sink.

Yeah, those were the days.

If I looked at a big cave with many places to fall and die in real life….I’d better have a really good reason for doing it other than to have an achievement, otherwise, I’d be risking my neck for nothing. The question is logical. Does the reward at the end of a jumping puzzle warrant the risk and time involved? In the case of most jumping puzzles the answer is sadly, no. I think we should at least get a some coin and maybe some karma for repeats.

I’m running into an off and on black screen with eventual graphics card driver crash as well. It occurs most during indoor cave exploration and underwater. I’ve tried multiple fixes to no avail and can play for extended periods of time without issue. It does eventually happen though and it is very frustrating. I still love the game, but this does make it a bit on the lame side, especially when I end up dead because of it. Because it happens in caves most of all, Any chance at going into a dungeon is pretty much nixed until a fix happens. Here is the kicker though, and makes me believe it is the game itself and not a hardware issue as much…My wife has an identical computer as mine…Same card, same drivers. She has no issues at all.
