The beginning of Metrica Province is a good one too, always something going wrong at the lab or the inquest will try to take over one and release a shark into the water.
We all know about the incoming sword clone porting to the target rather than the glitched out running they used to do. Was there any notes about Deceptive Evasion and the sword clone? Will they remain the glitched and buggy original clone, with the kitten pathing problems? Dunno if this was answered before…sorry if it was!
I am rather fond of Blink…for the pure reason that I get to blink forward and when I arrive, pink butterflies fly off into the air. Those stupid butterfly effects are one of the reasons I love the mesmer profession so much.
I don’t understand why they can’t just reconsider the torment add? The community as a whole has only been screaming about that. Change it to confusion, as confusion is one of the conditions that is considered ‘mesmer’ or slap another condi onto it if the devs are too scared of confusion being out there. This nerf is heavy handed and not warranted. We are glad that the devs pay attention to the community, this time though I don’t think they really understood what was making everyone upset.
The PU nerf was ok in my eyes, and I agree, the might could be removed though. Having to cycle through with swiftness through the boons is enough of nerf.
Hmm, if it’s working as intended might have to buy one after all. Not a fan of the LB snot-ball looking animation…
I think a lot of us are upset because they were touting this as helping our utilities and sustains. All they did was add 1 sec to a useless heal that no one uses and reduced the cooldown of one utility skill. They added a mindless DS add to the mechanic that could potentially hurt the player, as most necros would rather die and come back with a full lifeforce bar than nothing because it was computer activated when we didn’t want it to be (good thing this add was on a GM hardly any one uses). Sure we got cleave on a dagger and a few axe animation speed ups, but most other professions got this and more. And now we can do all the things in DS that everyone else can without using their core mechanic…something we should have been able to do from the start. Still can’t be healed in DS though.
Basically they were playing at knowing what to do with this profession and in the end, they did nothing. Will it help? Sure, but buffing all the other professions while hardly touching this one hurts. It seems like this go around, they were trying to work with WvW/tPvP and since Necros excel at WvW…we got the short end of the stick.
Maybe if the devs didn’t start out with buzz words and lies, it would sting less. I know I shouldn’t have had my hopes but…but one can dream.
First off, I don’t think anyone should go spouting off rumors about things if they cannot 100% back them up. You shouldn’t post them, you shouldn’t refer to them and you shouldn’t try spreading them. Bringing those old rumors up only continues to foster the weird animosity that the community is having against TTS.
TTS is not going to hack anyone, all we want are clean and simple Teq/Wurm kills. If you find yourself on a map we are advertising that we are running a raid, join us! You get your Teq/Wurm kill for the day and we get helpful bodies for the kill. If you don’t want to join and don’t want to listen to our spam of joining teamspeak, you should make the choice to switch to another map. You don’t even need to use your mic, just press the mute mic button if you have one and listen to instructions. We aren’t trying to be malicious when we ask you to be on TS, we just want to make sure that the 70+ people it takes to properly kill a Teq/Wurm can all be coordinated. They made these kills hard.
I don’t understand why people get so kittened off at TTS when we happen to crash into your map. If you don’t want to join, take yourself out of the equation. Don’t yell at us, don’t come here posting about how bossy TTS is, don’t try to spread lies to get people to distrust the guild. We cannot choose the maps we find, and our leaders do their best not to take over a map that looks like it is organizing. It’s really easy, you press the B button and head off to one of the WvW battlegrounds. You then Press the exit the mists button on the bottom of the screen, most of the time the TTS map will be filled and you can go about on your merry non-Teq killing way. Makes for a nicer community when we all get along.
(Sorry if I am sounding rude or bossy here…I am just a bit tired of seeing people complain about a guild who is getting the hard bosses killed on a regular basis and doesn’t exclude the whole map)
(edited by rabidsmiles.5926)
Good job community, you managed to nerf a profession before the patch even hits. /slowclap
(edited by rabidsmiles.5926)
And another patch will go through without any meaningful changes to this profession. Awesome. Whoop-de-doo…we get cleave on dagger and now our DS will activate itself occasionally. We get the ability to do what everyone else can while in DS except use our heal. Why do I even bother with this profession?
We got the rock, we always get the rock.
I guess the cleave was a nice hand out? /shrugs
Ah…so these numbers are for dungeons. So two sets of armor to carry around, my poor mesmer’s bag is going to be so full. Well, at least I know what to use for dungeons now
Wow, great number crunching…thanks for taking the time to pull these! My stupid question (and I am sorry for it being stupid) is:
So the two best runes sets for a mesmer are either ranger or scholar then?
I still can’t make up my mind what set to use on mine, I don’t want to waste gold and everyone loves to talk about the runes of Strength or Traveler’s runes.
I have to admit, part of the reason I enjoy this game is because it doesn’t present itself all in one go from the beginning. You didn’t have your hand held though the process and sometimes you were forced to remember how to use Google to look up answers. I like a good challenge and if I wanted something kitten easy to play I’d go find one of those MMOs made for kids. Lets not dumb down our GW2, if downed state is too hard for people to understand, I don’t think they should be playing this game.
^ He’s talking about Dark Matter, which is used in Ascended crafting.
Salvage research has shown that BLSK’s do have a slightly better chance of returning Ectos and Dark Matter when compared to Master/Mystic Kits, and they also have slightly better chances of returning inscriptions/insignias. Since it’s not really worth using BLSK’s on Rares most of the time, and Exotic drops are likely to be few and far between (unless you do a lot of dungeon running), that’s why I suggest using BLSK’s for Exotics. (Of course, your decision will depend on how many BLSK’s you have stored up, and whether or not the item in question is worth it. An Exotic trinket with no upgrade, for example, is probably better served using a Master/Mystic Kit rather than the BLSK.)
*she’s talking about it (not everyone around here is a dude ) but yes that’s what I meant. Thanks!
Since I don’t buy BLK, I tend not to want to waste them on an exotic that doesn’t have a sigil/rune worth removing. If you are swimming in BLK, by all means salvage away. I just found that I almost didn’t have a kit when an item with a Superior Rune of Strength finally came my way because I had salvaged away almost all of my BLK on very exotic. I have to be careful with my BLK stash so for that reason, I tend not to salvage all of them.
For the exotics and BL Salvage kits, use it only if you need the next step up ectos (I forget what they are called) and if the sigil/rune is worth the cost. If not, just use the Master or sell it on the TP.
P.S. If it looks like we beat you while we were playing mindlessly. It just means you were very easy for us to predict and isolate. And at that point youl be ripped apart by our swarm
^This.
It’s all about control. People like to complain about AI builds because they know their opponent has little/to no control over their AI and the computer will do what the computer has calculated as being the ‘best’ for that moment in time. So neither player has any sort of real control over the situation with an AI running around.
A mesmer can throw around a few clones or phantoms and the only way you can escape from them is to kill them. Which takes resources away from killing the mesmer, to which they can just keep churning out more. You lose the control over the situation the longer you are in battle, so you get frustrated with the situation and blame the mesmer for doing what a mesmer does, create AI. A mesmer cannot get away from producing it’s phantasms, it’s the nature of the profession.
A ranger can send their pet off to distract you, to actively damage you while sitting back and happily trying to take you out with ranged attacks. Their pets have CC that can severely hamper your playstyle and wreck your day if you let them. You again, lose control of the situation and it makes you upset.
AI builds are innate to certain professions, there is no getting around it. They are far from mindless, you just can’t see as easily what goes on with an AI build as you can with a non one. It’s just easier on the ego when you can say that a player actively smashed your face into the ground than it is to say that the player’s AI did.
You aren’t the only one who as asked this since the Ready Up. I would have preferred to see confusion added back to the scepter, not sure why they went with torment. Confusion was the mesmer condition, until everyone in game got their grubby little paws on it through the perplexity runes and them adding the condi to skills. The necros can keep their torment, give us mesmers back our confusion!
Well, I am going with Dreamer because I use SB as a secondary…also, I like the idea of murdering things with Unicorns
Hello, I am in need of another invite. I left my game running a few weeks ago while we had some children-like guests over and one of them decided that it would be fun to play with my guilds. So if someone wouldn’t mind sending me an invite again, that would be great
In-Game name: Phevva
Server: Sanctum of Rall
Role: Scholar
Playtime: When I can get on, which is most days
Playstyle: PvE/WvW
This is the change I am most excited about. Saw the scepter and knew everyone was going to QQ over it, meaning they’d leave my IE alone. Yeah we get it, torment is a ‘bad thing’ and mesmers will be the dummy profession that everyone plays PU scepter with. Never mind the staff clones that are going to wreck your day. You can easily dodge that last scepter hit to not end up with a clone attacking you, heck you can even side step the thing if you pay attention to the slow animations but staff clones, so long as you are within range of casting…you are going to be eating Winds of Chaos. Makes me giddy to play Mesmer again.
It’s fine, people are over reacting over a change they haven’t seen in game yet. As long as they don’t go after my Illusionary Elasticity…been waiting for that fix for a while now.
The problem with the turning off auto attack is now you have to keep pressing the 1 key and sometimes you can get yourself stuck in the attack chain just as much as autoattacking can. You have to learn what the 3 steps look like individually and remember not to spam the 1 key and it can make killing things tedious and slow.
No, the site is down for other reasons. TTS is alive and well, join us on the teamspeak though it’s .net now because of the crashed out website
They should just fix it so it behaves like the guardian’s swiftness, in that if you run over it you pick up the swiftness should you not have any but if you have the buff on you already, it extends it for a 1 sec. I hate it when I use it only to have someone place the buff down and my curtain does nothing.
Clones – They are supposed to fool our opponents but they only fool newbies. I suggest having them mimic the exact actions of the mesmer that spawned them. They should run, jump, dodge and use skills when we do and have a fake copy of every boon that is on us but only have their auto-attacks actually do anything. This would be a lot more likely to fool enemy players, especially when we can swap with our clones.
This I have a huge issue with as well. I hate how easily it is to just tab through to find the real mesmer. There is no point to a clone (other than condi spec if you go that route) except to fool the other being into thinking one of them is you. Its stupid easy to find the mesmer that they might as well not have clones at all. Also, fix the kitten outfits so the clones are wearing them please!
Interesting that they’re focusing on torment and not confusion for Mesmer with scepter.
Yes, I do think confusion fits the profession better. Torment is the ‘new’ condi to add to everything though…better than the crud we got now though
Oh I like the scepter change…may have to switch to it on mine. Fixing bugs, while awesome though, not really a feature.
I tend to agree with most of it…but legendaries shouldn’t drop and they most certainly shouldn’t be able to be sold on the TP. That part still boggles my mind.
What?! I would say sylvari and human are worse when it comes to combat sounds. Falling charr male sound is the best! XD If you want to listen to “Eat my dust”, its your choice of course.
I will agree about the Sylvari (if I have to hear ‘This Rose has thorns and here they are!’ one more time, I am going to start pulling leaves!) and some of the female human ones are annoying but the female Charr I just can’t get into. All that weird grunting and random deep voice yelling, just can’t stand it. I am a girl gamer so my characters tend to run being girls. If it weren’t for the female voice actor I would totally make a female Charr, their fluffy tails are so adorable and have you seen one in the Winter outfit? Charr in a dress, my Dog that’s cute.
Condition are meant to be the thieves weak spot, similar to engineers and warriors (well warriors seem to get away with everything nowadays).
I am pretty sure condi were ‘supposed’ to be a warrior’s weak spot as well but we all know how that turned out. Can’t go claiming what is and isn’t a ‘weak spot’ because those devs of ours can turn on a dime, should their new favorite class of the year be something new soon.
Not sure what storyline it was, but it was when the Asura npc who sets bombs to blow up the ship and has to swim out to his death because one of them didn’t go off. Going back to his wife and telling her that he was dead was probably the saddest thing I have seen in game. I keep thinking that our characters are like walking death magnets as everyone who comes in contact with us ends up dead (except that annoying sylvari, Trahearne, most of us want dead anyway).
And this is why we can’t have nice things…people gotta mess it up. It was such a lovely t6 farm too /sigh
But here we have pink butterfly effects :>
I think this is the reason I keep coming back to the profession. Those silly, purple/pink butterfly effects are so entertaining! Now if only I could put Dreamer on my mesmer, I’d be one happy mes.
But on topic, yes it’s mostly your level at the moment. Leveling a mesmer before the April patch was a pain in the kitten but after, oh my dog I can’t even imagine starting a new one from level one. This is a very, very, very trait dependent profession and I don’t know what the devs were thinking. Like someone else mentioned, once you get access to that Deceptive evasion you will start to get into the mesmer groove. Hang in there and remember, we have the butterflies!
Original poster, from your first post and all the ones you have posted from there seem to all be showing that you have no idea how a thief works and are here for the sole reason that a thief killed you in pvp so now you want to complain. I don’t think you ‘get’ the profession at all. If you have an open character slot, I’d suggest making a thief and you will find out real quick that without the mobility, the profession is kitten.
Your 10 weapon skills (more if you are an engi or ele) all run off separate cooldowns. That means that you have 10 different skills you can use and there is no way of locking you out of them except with chill. Thieves do not have this luxury, instead we are able to use a few skills a few times in a row should we choose to. Most of our weapon skills are utility, meaning they offer us something like stealth or the ability to clean off a condition or whatever. We don’t have a huge hitting 4/5 skill like most professions do, instead we have a mechanic that works based off stealth and we have to position ourselves just right or it fails. You on the other hand, can face smash your 4/5 skills happily from where ever and still be able to kill us.
Our initiative system works off choices and not spamming. A spamming thief is a dead thief. We have to carefully prepare and work out attacks off our little pool of resource. If we miss with our CnD/Head Shot/whatever, yes we can try again but after that, our opponents already know that we cannot do anything else for awhile. They know what the plan of attack is and can easily avoid it. We don’t get to switch weapons with a fresh pool of initiative and that’s what keeps the system from being broken or unfair.
Please don’t come here posting ignorant posts about a profession you know nothing about and try to get it nerfed into the ground over a mechanic you deem is unfair.
I’d give anything to have an Aataxe than that bag of flesh for an elite. I like the shadow fiend, I think he’s cute but the others are so ugly.
I will admit though, Charr are adorable in those feathered hats. But I can’t stand the voice acting and if I have to listen to my character fight and talk all the time, I prefer to enjoy it.
I would have to agree with the Charr…I don’t see too many of them as rangers. It struck me as funny when I saw one running around with a cat pet following it and there was a tiny mini following them.
I think you mostly see humans wandering around (as with most professions and not just rangers) because there are far less clipping issues to deal with.
T3 Human armor, stop. I am a figher, not a prostitute
Welcome to the world of games being designed by men for men. Ladies usually get bustied up and clothing removed the higher level you get. Level 1 you are a frumpy thing and by level 80 you are wearing a chainmail bikini that covers only what it is supposed to to allow it to still be a rated T game.
That human t3 armor…how I despise that armor. I just wanted to mention, that the human t1 pants are awesome. I have it paired with the Krytan armor top and some random shoe skin. I hate how many medium armors in this game are flowy coats. Just stop it Devs, we have plenty of these Neo-want-to-be armors, start making us some real non-female-objectifying leather armor pieces.
I don’t think the OP knows how the thief teleportation works. If the thief can walk there, without having to jump at any point during the movement and is within range, the SB arrow will move them there. Do you even realize the restrictions that places? There is no magic jumping from place to place, there is no skipping happily along jumping puzzles…in fact, most of the time it bugs out and it will move you to the very edge of the range but not actually where you wanted to go.
Learn about skills before you come on here and complain about them. It’s the un-informed who end up causing a mass panic about skills, which end up needlessly nerfed. Stop it.
Yes! This dragon battle was awesome…frustrating as he kept spawning extra stuff other than the tendrils but I was really pleased with it. It had me thinking and reacting, rather than just bashing the dragon down. Well done devs…well done.
I know this is a stupid question but I am going to ask anyway. I stopped doing EoTM when I got to 80 on the current character. I opened my bags and didn’t bother to notice the mats I got. The Wiki says powerful blood/gossamer/hardened leather (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Embroidered_Belt_Pouch)
But…the other day I did a few WvW champs and opened the bags I got and I ended up getting a few armored scales and a vicious claw. Is the wiki wrong, as these are not listed under what can drop? Is the karma train a good place to be getting the t6 stuff? FGS is getting old and I am getting so bored with karka shell farming to buy the t6 stuff -.-
Oh, no…I wasn’t trying to make a profit off the dust. That’s a fool’s gamble and I am no fool. I just don’t want to pay for dust if I don’t have to And no, I don’t buy ectos to salvage, I’d be using the ones from the rares I pick up…I am far too cheap to be doing that.
So for personal use, for getting dusts it’s not a bad idea then. It’s still a choice that hurts though.
(edited by rabidsmiles.5926)
Yes, that is a good point and I do see the cost of the precursors are always rising. Gold farmed for precursors vs mats is the same gold no matter where I stick it. I just hate farming mats o.-
Forgive me as I did google, however I try not to get answers that are more than a year old. Old data tends to be worthless in the real world…
It’s completely frustrating when you have a group of people who are all trying to organize to get the event done and the map ends up being full. All those who take up the needed space end up making it harder for the group to complete the content (especially with the Triple Wurm) So much coordination goes into making those events successful. Why should someone get their feelings all twisted in a knot if asked politely to relog so the group can try to get more players in to help? It won’t hurt those who are mapping Sparkfly or Bloodtide. As long as the group running the event asks politely and won’t go about it in a rude manner.
I know in the end, players will do whatever a player wants to but if there is a an event running, you should try to join it or relog to make it easier for that event to succeed. Nothing more irritating than to go on a Triple Wurm run and fail because we didn’t have enough people.
Yes, I know it hurts to even bring up this topic as the very idea of salvaging this resource isn’t a nice one. However, crystalline dust doesn’t exactly rain down from the sky. Is it worth it to convert the Ecto into the dust or should I just sell the ecto and buy it? Last time I checked the TP, sometime last night, dust was selling for 22silver or so and ectos were 41silver.
There is a chance I can get higher from the ecto salvage but the thought of getting 1 for 1 sucks. Does using a higher salvage kit get you more dusts or is it up to the RNG again for this?
I am having this same debate with myself. I have a good chunk of the mats but I am still about 200g away from being ‘safe’ to buy the precursor (don’t want to spend all of my gold at one time). I find it hard to trade in those t6 mats because I know I have to farm those again and it’s not fun. I am holding onto the t5 mats and converting the harder to acquire t6 but that crystalline dust hurts.
I think for me, because it’ easier to farm gold than it is to farm t6 mats, I am holding onto the mats and just farming my brain out at the karkas/FGS.
It’s something to do and I adore The Dreamer’s skin. Also, shooting unicorns is awesome, I don’t care what anyone says!
Balancing a profession around PvP and neutering it for PvE is a terrible way to go about handling this one. I really wish our Devs would understand that the majority of our playerbase needs to learn how to use the mechanics of this game and not be standing around in the circle of blindness. Instead, they let the stupid be stupid and hurt the PvE thieves in the process. Awesome.
Those of you complaining about the OP of Blinding Powder…why do you stand inside it??? It’s mostly used as a forced movement skill anyway and a quick access to stealth. You see a thief use it you move, you don’t just stand there being stupid.
And the SB nerf…stop killing our one ranged attacking weapon please. It’s been neutered enough and if you want us not to be able to use 4 and stealth, don’t give us a tiny amount of damage to compensate.
