[Suggestion] Typeless Armor Skins

If it clips, don’t use it. Not all the armors will look good together but it’s each player’s decision to use what skins they want to. I’d be all for letting us mix and match everything…they’d probably get more sales of the wardrobe crystals that way anyway.

thank you for the feedback guys. I kind of feel tempted now to reroll as an asura – thank you for that
Furthermore, I noticed that Asurans have very tiny backpacks as oposed to humans. With humans it looks almost like they would actually fall over

The hobosacks are the reason I went asura for my engi. They are so ridiculous looking on all the other races and aren’t so offensive on the Asura (though I still would prefer to see my light of dwayna -.-)

I responded in your other thread:

I’d say try an Engi. They can be as chaotic as the Ele is or you can make it as boring as a LB ranger…and anything in between. They really are an all around can do a little of everything profession. You want AI to help kill things? Engi has it. You want to be able to stealth? Engi can do it. You want to might stack? Oh hey look, Engi can do that too. You won’t be able to stealth like a thief, or might stack quite like an Ele, and your AI sits around but you can always change your build if you don’t like it at any point. You aren’t quite stuck into a niche like some of the other professions. There are plenty of buttons to push and it’s not boring at all. Also, you have constant, permanent swiftness thanks to the Speedy Kits trait (so long as you are swapping kits every 10sec you have swiftness).

Warning though, starting Engi can be rough. You don’t get access to helpful kits until you are higher levels. Once you get Bomb kit…things get a whole lot better.

Need advice: Mesmer or Ranger?

rabidsmiles.5926

Do mesmers in general have a hard time with condi cleansing? This is important for me as i know hate getting locked down or burnt to death. – I don’t find I have a hard time with conditions but I always run the Mender’s Purity trait and have Null Field on my bar.

I can adapt to kiting and abusing LoS but does it require too much practice to make succesful combos and deceiving your opponent? (I play d/d ele s/d thief and d/p thief, how does the skill requirement compare to them?) – If you have Deceptive Evasion (trait that lets you spawn clones on dodge) it can make things more confusing but by now most good players know to auto target the mesmer and they can still find you.

I do not have lightning reflexes so cant react to everything. Would this be a huge problem for a mesmer or is it something that develops naturally? – I found it developed naturally and we have a few defenses to help you stay alive. Learn not to spam Sword 2 and learn to use the F4 distortion!

Lastly how is both in and out of combat mobility compared to ranger? (especially in wvw) – Mesmers are slow. You get used to it though and if you want to use your rune slot to slot in traveler’s runes it gets better.

I am not a fan of torch myself, I usually slot in focus in the off hand. It’s a little clunky at first to get used to but focus lets you do so many neat things with curtain and the phantom isn’t as useless as the iMage is. Sword/Sword is another way to go, you get a block and an awesome phantom too!

I find I enjoy the mesmer playstyle better than a ranger. I don’t have to micro manage my pets. Also, who doesn’t love seeing their armor/character another 3 times?

I too almost picked up the lovestuck sword back when they weren’t achievement points and were actually affordable. I do agree that the huge, weird looking swords need to go and we need to get nice looking skins.

For now, my purple misty sword is just perfect.

Stop Unisexing Charr and Asura

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

Problem is, I can see why it is this way. Lacking breasts, the male design is slightly easier to copy over to the asuran (or charr) models, and this way there’s less work involved in creating armor.
Design once, copy&paste on Norn/Humans (I think they design on Sylvari, seriously), then copy&paste&adapt for Asura/Charr. Total designs needed: 2.
If they were to change this for a unique style for Asura (and I guess Charr), that’d be 4 total designs.

Still, stop giving me copy&paste implementations of bookah armor!

Here’s the problem with that theory. Most of us are asking for skirts. Boobs have nothing to do with skirts

I’d be happy and right as rain if I could have the male version of the winged bottom for my human female. That way I could use the piece for both of my female characters and not have one look like a stripper. Since I can’t, I’d like to have just one skirt to use that will make my Asura look nice and my human look nice when I swap armor over.

The other hand…I’d like for my female humans to have more options than dressing like a stripper. What functionality does that winged bottom have, with one half of the woman’s bottom sticking out for all monsters to gnaw on? Why does a mesmer/ele/necro have to look like she’s some pretty pretty princess doll? More than half of their armors are either too little or look frumpy.

Wish they’d hire designers who didn’t think about boobs and butt and put some thought into what characters will be running around their world in.

What frustrates me the most out this situation is having one set of ascended armor that looks awesome on my human mesmer female but if I switch it over to my asura mesmer, it looks like a 5 year old tried playing dress up. So I can’t have my winged leggings (which I do like for the asura) because I don’t want my human running around looking like she should be standing in the red light district of Divinity’s Reach! I don’t have the resources to make another light ascended set just for the fashion look (because that is crazy).

I don’t want boobs slapped onto my Asura, what I would like is more than 3 skirts in the whole fashion wardrobe to pick from! And no, the half pants half skirts do not count. I don’t want my Asura to look like 3/4 of the human wardrobe…as that’s a whole different topic about objectifying the woman form that this thread doesn’t need to delve into. I just want another kitten skirt! And one that looks decent on ALL the character models.

Yes but they could have easily went the other direction and said that ALL asura dress more like how we humans would describe as being ‘girly’ but this game is made by mostly men and is for mostly male players (its a MMO…we all know this is true) and the majority of them wouldn’t play an asura in a dress. So they still made the decision based off how we perceive maleness and femaleness.

3 dresses? I think you are being generous. When it comes to light armor, a female asura has at most the winged pants for a ‘dress’ look. There are a few others but they are either half dress and half pants or just don’t look nice.

But you did ask!?!

Clearly (as also stated by others in this thread) that bow (as a SB) is less than optimal for what you are planning. You are not open to persuasion and this is therefore nothing more than a validation thread rather than you seeking any serious advice. You have clearly made up your mind long before your OP in fact.

I’ll reiterate: “Do whatever you want, it’s just a game.” and add: don’t be so touchy, it’s JUST a game.

I was asking for a build. Do I already know that SB isn’t optimal over LB? Yes. Do I care? No. I was asking for a build for SB. So why would I want to be swayed towards using the meta when my OP obviously states that I don’t want to use it?

It has nothing to do with validation. I don’t need that from this community. I gave a reason for wanting to use SB, because I have Dreamer. It’s a pretty big reason for wanting to use a weapon type that goes against the grain of Meta…so I figured it was worth mentioning.

I don’t think you read my post?

I’ve been using this in open world a lot lately, and the name rings true. it’s a lot of fun, and i have played around with it a bit, even swapped in a gs and dual axes.

All those wasted hours of grinding just to make a MLP-Slinger?!? No serious ranger would ever dream of using such an abomination. Seems to fit your attitude perfectly then, so why did you ask in the first place? Desperately needed some validation of your choice of virtual empowerment?

Do whatever you want, it’s just a game. IF that conflicts with the “do whatever you want” of an/other player/s, adjust your own “do whatever you want” accordingly.

I hardly think your opinion of the bow is of any worth to this thread. Some of us actually like the skin…so try to keep your opinions of such matters to yourself unless asked ok?

All I was asking for was a build that can use SB. Not for you attack my choices. If you have no well meaning for a thread and nothing useful to say just don’t say anything at all.

I made the one legendary in the whole game I truly wanted to make and I’d like to give the other profession who can use it a better try. I am mostly on my thief to use it and I love murdering things with unicorns. However, I don’t see many builds using SB outside a few in PvP (and I don’t PvP much). I mostly run in PvE situations, dungeons and fractals and what not. Seems like the meta builds run with LB and SW/D/Axe but LB is so boring and has that knock back that all Rangers get lumped into using.

Are there any semi-viable builds that use SB as a secondary? I run dungeons and fractals with my guild, and I try to avoid the elite groups who only want the meta run. I don’t mind running spotter and frost spirit for the usual dungeon meta…I just would prefer to be able to use the expensive legendary I put all the time into. Would I get kicked out of PUG if I used the SB instead of the LB?

I don’t know ranger too much, I started one a while ago but it fell into alt/mule land and I’d like to try it again.

Scholar runes for light armored?

I love my light armored professions. I mean I love the 3 professions so much I have two of each.

Now, I am making my ascended armor and I would like to be able to swap the set around for all 3 of the professions. I am making it Berserker’s as I run a power necro, already a zerker ele and it’s a good set for the mesmer (right now my mes is in assassins). I am used to being squishy so won’t be a change.

So my basic question is: are Scholar runes the best over all rune to use for all 3 of the professions? Or is there a better one I should be looking at to stick in there? I have a set of strength but not sure how well that would fair for the necro or the mesmer really.

I have a human and an asura ele both 80. I find that the armors for female humans are amazing and there is a lot of variety to them to suit anyone. Asura animations are by far the more entertaining to watch with any profession, and with an ele they fly through the air and murder things to amusingly! Yes their armors are a little more plain and hard to see (if you make them the tiny size) and the males and females are both clad in the same outfits, but you can find one or two sets/pieces that can look great. In the end though, it comes down to whatever race you can stand listening to the attunement swapping over and over again.

Ok so I should stick the strength runes on the ascended set and keep the scholar berserker’s set I have been using for the lower level dungeons then. Darn, was sort of hoping I could sell off the scholar runes but might as well hang onto them then.

I was considering getting a set of Soldier’s armor and placing the scholar runes onto that, as the higher HP pool might benefit more with that rune set. I tend to run staff with the scholar runes, and am working on getting the pacing down with scepter (trying to wean myself off staff lol). So, was thinking that for staff maybe the soldier’s might be a bit better? Or maybe Valkyrie? Or should I just leave them as they are, on the berserkers?

Thanks guys!

Sorry…I know this topic has probably been talked to death but there are valid points to both rune sets. Here’s the deal, I have a full set of both runes (the forge spat out the strength runes for me over time) so it’s not like this a cost issue.

My Ele is purely PvE. I run dungeons and fractals with the very occasional WvW if my guild runs a havoc run. I have no interest whatsoever in PvP. The ascended armor I am in the middle of crafting is Berserker’s for that reason.

Seems this forum is divided on which set is better, some say Strength and some say Scholar. I am using the scholar runes now and that 6th bonus is sort of a pain to have to keep up, but it’s manageable. Would I miss that ferocity bonus from the scholar if I switched over to Strength? I’m leaning more towards the Strength, as the 6th bonus doesn’t require me to be at almost full health. I find I am always with might so it’s not hard to keep it up. But I have to admit, that gold price of the 6 strength runes is really tempting!

Should I just suck it up and stick the strength runes on there or should I sell them, as they aren’t really all they are made out to be?

I was maining a thief…then a mesmer…and now have settled on Elementalist. Ele is so much fun, and more than the average spell caster. If you want to be an in-your-face attacker you can go d/d, you can might stack to get the most power you can and then smash things with a lightning hammer, or you can equip a staff and mash things down with a meteor storm. You have easy access to condi clears and healing, so many boons you can apply, auras and lets face it…light armors are some of the loveliest skins in the game (imo of course). Also, this profession teaches you how to play, you have to learn to dodge properly or you face death. And dagger 4 makes map travel a breeze
