Nope…you either use it or you don’t. Everyone complains about Dreamer, I own the thing and even I wish it wasn’t so constant or maybe a different pitch to the sound so it wasn’t so ear piercing. It didn’t used to sound like a dying horse coughing :/

I find Marauder’s works better on my Ele than Zerk…sure I lose a touch of power but the make up of 4k HP as a good buffer for when I can’t dodge or heal and have to eat a hit. A dead Ele is of no use so I’d rather keep myself upright than be full on glass and just break in a stiff breeze.

Totally do not agree with this at all. This game is based on fashion completely at end game and to take away from the full experience just to make a handful of people feel superior isn’t right. Fashion for all I say!

Sometimes this community is amazing (see the thread about players gifting other players things) and then threads like this pop up and we get to see the speshul snowflakes come out of the woodwork and try to defend time-locked skins with the idea of ‘you weren’t there so you shouldn’t have them’ attitude.

I’d love the idea of them implementing those skins back into the game somehow…maybe a ‘defeat Teq 100 times’ achievement for the wings…same thing with the Shatterer. Make it hard but but not bonkers hard like the prec farm is. Or kitten, even just sticking them in a PVP track reward would be fine. This game is all about the skins and to lock some away because someone didn’t own the game the time needs to be changed.

The only hard part is Subject 6 and if you have people who don’t understand the shield mechanic. The rest of it is fairly entertaining and so long as you know the bomb/laser part on the boss you should do fine. Best if you have reapers/druids in the party as their minions/pets can take the bomb and the laser and gives you more chances to get your larger attacks off without having to move so much.

Tools vs Defiance Bar in fractals?

I take a staff as my secondary so staff 5 will help. Or you can just go warhorn for the daze too. Reaper shroud 3 when pressed twice and skill 5 will also help. You don’t run Flesh Golem as a Viper Horror Reaper so forget about him. The wiki has a list of the conditions that will eat away a defiance bar: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Defiance_Bar

Either female human or female Asura, depending on your preference for armors. I love the voice acting from the female Asura and their minion summoning sayings are amusing. However, the female Humans some gorgeous armors and look good in most everything. It’s hard to ‘dress up’ an Asura sometimes.

Ranger PvE, Fractal build?

in Ranger

rabidsmiles.5926

I think he means use the staff rather than the longbow? Druid staff is good for filling up your CA bar fairly quickly so if you are interested in running more healing in fractals you use it at the expense of your own damage output…honestly though, groups aren’t bringing you for your damage so you aren’t sacrificing much to get that healing.

Profession recommendations

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

Rangers/Druid tend to be more wanted in more content if you are a PvE player. Their heals are nice to have in fractals and necessary in the Raids. You shouldn’t be kicked or turned away for playing a druid (so long as you stay away from camping longbow and always using a bear). There’s a bit of equipment juggling at the moment for the profession, depending on your group…you might need more healing or more dps/utility buffs.

Engies have a bit harder time being accepted, as most of the community doesn’t know what they do exactly and they are more of a jack of all trades but master of none profession. They can easily be replaced by an Ele and not be missed at all, where as the same really can’t be reversed.

Open world reaper build??

in Necromancer

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

It’s not a open world build, it’s a raid and high level fractal build. It needs time to ramp up the damage from the conditions. It’s going to take longer than a pure power Reaper to kill things because you are relying on second by second damage to add up over time.

Condi Reaper runes?

in Necromancer

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

Quick question…I run high level fractals on my Reaper and enjoying it immensely. I’ve been wondering if the Berserker runes are really the best option or should I get the Thorns runes or use the Nightmare/trapper set? Sure the power is nice and all from the Berserker runes but not really that useful…so would the condi duration from the Nightmare/thorns or the set 6 bonus from the Thorns be more useful than the 5% condi damage?

Sorry if this was previously mentioned but this thread is long and sort of old but had they been smart…they would have made these only cost 1 scrap, rather than a whole ticket. Rather than the few who spend a lot, they would have gotten more of the non spenders to buy the kitten things. Since they can’t be traded, why price them at a whole ticket? Don’t get greedy Anet, your community obviously is watching your cash grabs and are getting tired of them.

I love my Ele/Tempest…so useful! I run Marauder’s armor with a Marauder’s Amulet and zerk trinkets (depending on the situation, I can swap out the earrings for the zerk/valk ones for more HP if needed too). I went full zerk for awhile but I kept dropping like nobody’s business, some random projectile would knock me on my kitten. A dead Ele is useless so I swapped in the Marauder’s stuff and it’s made the profession that much better for me. I have a cushion for swapping to water for a heal or getting an Aura up where I didn’t before. The trade off is a bit of a damage drop off but honestly, I think because I stay upright more now, the trade off favors my Marauders set lol

Love the profession…takes skill to master!

Wish it had that ferocity buff that Rev got for some reason…or just anything to help a party out so there was a more want for the profession other than ‘ok damage’. I’m strictly a PvE player and I find myself more on my Ele these days as they are far more welcomed in groups.

Advice for new Ele in dungeons/fractals

in Elementalist

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

1. Might stacking isn’t as big of an ele job anymore like it used to be. If you are dropping your fire fields and can blast, by all means do it but for the most part…you don’t really worry about it. I mean you can go through the motions but really, it’s not necessary anymore. Fractals are a frantic place and the higher level ones, when the mobs pull those might stacks off of you it hurts

2. Either…carry both weapon sets, the only trait you have to change is Bolt to the Heart to Fresh Air. Staff is great if you can keep the mobs in your Lava Font and can take those meteor impacts. Also the water fields are nice to have. Dagger/Warhorn is better for the targets that move around. For fractals, either works…just depends on your preference.

3. Aftershock or Feel the Burn can replace Ice Bow if you’d like to have another quick and easy aura. Ice Bow isn’t the be all end all anymore. If you need more survivability, maybe Arcane Shield. It’s really a free slot though to play around with as the other two are standards for an Ele to bring.

Should I be using shield in Fractals?

Thanks for the advice! Wish more groups would take the Chronomancer’s need for everyone to pile on the boss/mobs in order for them to get my buffs. Nothing like having a party member standing off messing up mechanics and not getting buffs /sigh

From a fashion standpoint, the shield bugs me…hate how it hides my legendary back piece but I’ll start giving it a go to see how it works properly in a group.

I really haven’t done much with my Chronomancer since it came out but I’d like to get back into it as it really is my favorite profession. I’ve been following the metabattle build for DPS utility pretty well but I keep seeing people talking about the shield phantom. I usually use a s/s and s/f…should I swap out the focus for a shield? Is the extra alacrity worth the dps drop and the projectile defense? Or should I just ignore the shield and continue running my focus?

Also, it should be 2 swordsmen and one Warden up correct? If it’s shield, should it be 2 swordsmen and one Avenger or another mix of the three? I can never remember the right mix of phantoms to be up…trying to be a better Chrono

Thanks in advance!

I also like using the Princess Doll tonic and equip my broom…though I really wish the tonics could use the flying carpet. Usually it’s the light armorer Human female running around…or the ‘meta female thief’.

I have both a female Asura and a female Human for most of the professions I play, mostly because I cannot choose between the two which I prefer to play at any given time. There’s only so many times one can hear ‘I can outrun a centaur’ before you want to strangle yourself with your headphones. And the two professions I enjoy playing the most, the Tempest and the Reaper, are both shouty professions now…and I tend to prefer the Asura voice over the Human one. There are days where I just want to see the pretty armors on the human though…

I usually run around with LB + Staff since I can throw the initial burst from LB with +10 vuln, and then keep building CAF up.

So I’m not going to get the ‘WTF staff??? /kick’ if I bring one to a party then? The community can be so weird about weapon choices and lately the s/a and lb has been the meta. Is it ok to let the sw/a go for fractals then? Not like I am a real damage dealer to a party anyway…

Here is a handy dandy video that explains the awesomeness of healing on a Druid…

Thank you for this video link! It was super helpful…now I have an idea of the things I should be doing.

One more quick question…can I replace the LB with the staff? Never been a fan of LB much and would rather keep my melee set of s/a or s/t

How does one 'Druid' properly?

in Ranger

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

Druid has just completely baffled me and I think it’s mostly because in other games, when you play a healer…you PLAY a healer, not a damage dealer who sometimes gets a heal off. So Druid is confusing the kitten out of me…how do you Druid while in a Fractal or a dungeon?

Do you try to get into the F5 as often as possible and stay or switch in, use a skill and switch out? The metabuild guide says use skill 4 but then how are you heaingl teammates then if all you are doing is using one skill? The Glyphs? Is there something I am not seeing? A rotation maybe that I could follow to start learning the Druid and get more comfortable with it?

Am I going to get the blame, like in other games, if the party wipes? I mean, PUG groups aren’t exactly known for standing where they are supposed to to get buffs and heals.

Well…I like using it to mark bomb a boss before swapping to dagger/warhorn and then to shroud but I’m a PvE player so maybe it’s too boring for PvP/WvW? I like having a quick regen if needed, a poison/chill, a mark for removing a few conditions and then a simple one for helping to break bars. Is it boring? Reaper allows most anyone to survive the harder content as it’s very forgiving and the extra HP pool soaks up a lot of missed dodges. T4 that I would normally get my kitten handed to me on my Ele, is a breeze with Reaper.

Best weapon set for core Necro?

It’s taken for the daze to break CC bars and Locust hits 10x, 5 targets and cripples…so it’s not as bad as you think when you first look at it. It also has the utility of swiftness if you are careful not to use it in the middle of running through mobs. Mostly though, you’ll be using dagger to regain life force to go back into shroud quicker, your off hands on a necro are mostly for utility purposes and not supposed to be spammed like other professions. It’s usually better to just use the auto for damage purposes.

As everyone says…dagger/the-off-hand-you-prefer and staff works best. I like Focus because it gives me a reliable regen/vul on 4 and boon removal on 5 (helpful in those fractals where the enemies gain/steal boons). I tend to go staff as secondary for the sole reason of I made a Bifrost and want to use it. Axe/whatever works too for ranged but I find that I spam off the marks, swap to dagger and then just use shroud. Also if you use Soul Reaping you can take Soul Marks to gain life force from using the staff marks.

Not all of us enjoy having to slowly but steadily mash our 1 key in PvE to make sure we don’t fly past the target we mean to attack and off into the distance or choose to get stuck and no longer can dodge properly like one should be able to in a game like this. To lock us out of vital and necessary dodging on an auto attack was terrible design from the start. However, it was a gorgeously animated attack and the new one is so generic looking it hurts…but to gain back my dodging and non-finger-aching auto attacks without worrying about dying is awesome!

Most fun/optimal Reaper build for PvE?

in Necromancer

Posted by: rabidsmiles.5926

rabidsmiles.5926

I’m just running a simple power reaper because I don’t find scepter a fun weapon to use and nor do I enjoy a condi build. I’m slowly collecting up Valkyrie pieces to swap out with some zerk, as with Reaper so much precision isn’t really necessary anymore. I can go all the way up to level 100 fractals if someone opens for me…my personal level is 78 right now as I haven’t had much time to get with groups going higher.

This is my most basic build if I am the only Reaper in the party:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNAodWnMbCt0gdbCO2As3glcBbaIUCmCxTxu4YEKA0AWBA-ThRBAB4pvBgTBwV7PK/oU9nHeCAmpEEA-e

Hope that posted right…haven’t used that to build before lol

I will swap out Blood Magic to Soul Reaping (1, 2, 3 is each respective trait choices) if there is another Reaper in the party and they are already running the Blood Magic buffing trait. While I mostly follow what MetaBuild has posted for their Reaper PvE build, I prefer Augury of Death over Chilling Nova as I am running two shouts and getting recharge back plus adding a little damage and healing by using them is worth more to me than a few extra chill hits. Don’t underestimate having a Rise up again quickly in a fractal or getting your heal back just a little quicker.

I have staff as my secondary weapon set, mostly because I have Bifrost and I like seeing it…but if you don’t need the range, use a greatsword. Not a fan of the Axe myself so that’s why I use the staff. Basically it’s whatever you like using best, it won’t really matter because you mostly want to use dagger to get your lifeforce constantly replenished so you can go back into Reaper Shroud.

PvE Reaper is simple, press f1 and murder all the things

I saw it and I was wondering why they were showcasing a crimson lion skin in the video…then it struck me that it was the new legendary. Yeah no thank you…I’ll stick with my beloved unicorn shooter. The skin of the Dreamer is lovely where as that thing is just pointy, red and thorny. I had to look hard to find the tigers, which look like lions btw. It looks way too big to be a SB…and the drawn effects are very underwhelming from what it shows in the trailer. I mean the Dreamer gets the unicorn of rose petals and rainbow, the aura is a brilliant purple…maybe they didn’t show all of it but it’s not a nice looking weapon from the get go. It better shoot Tony the friggin tiger out of it’s drawstring to be worthy of being called a Legendary.
