RNG and grind are two of those necessary evils in MMO games… they’re an easy way to make content repeatable, and content in an MMO pretty much has to be repeatable because there is no way a company can make content as fast as players can consume it.
I think players know that and understand that; the issue tends to be the degree and scale of RNG and grind.
I love farming and grinding. But you have to be able to OBTAIN these items, not farm gold to buy them because RNG is soooooo bad that there’s no other way… If I could go out and say have a 50% chance to get 1 (ONE) of the 250 (TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY) of a single PART of… ugh, you get the idea… If I could realistically farm these fragments, sure… But kitten buying them all… zzzz.

The real question is why do players who like the trinity, and have access to multiple games in multiple genres that support that play style keep bothering us with this tired question.
If you want trinity-based play go to a different game. This isn’t the game for you. It’s ok to not like it, but not liking it doesn’t mean you have a right to annoy the people who DO like it with your inanity.
As far as the zerker argument goes, that is a player issue. I’ve been here since beta, and not once have I done a full zerker run in a dungeon. It’s not even remotely necessary outside of the community that likes that sort of thing. Even IF it were, despite what a vocal bunch of idjits say, there is no one way to play this game, and that’s what makes it wonderful. There is no, “We can’t do X without Y,” beyond needing a certain number of bodies, there is only “What do I feel like doing today?”
I happen to think there is nothing wrong with the current group combat dynamic that couldn’t be fixed with better/more plentiful combo fields, and drastically better encounter design. I don’t think even ArenaNet had a firm grasp on what the lack of trinity would mean for boss fights. That theory is supported with how static bosses were at launch. They’ve obviously learned a lot since then as the encounters have steadily improved.
I’ve also explained this. GW2 was announced WITH a trinity, but the eye-catcher was a SOFT trinity. Meaning it’s less “omfg, we don’t have x”, BUT the idea would have been you’d do BEST with a mix, utilizing each role. Instead, we ended up with singularity and NO use for other builds in PvE that are IN the game already, they’re just useless. If the game had no support trees/stats I wouldn’t argue, not a bit.
Also, that’s a very lame question because, I like the mechanics in gw2 if it would have stayed true to its word. The soft-targeting system, being able to attack without a target (with cleave moves), the fact that weapons cleave like they naturally would and you’re not only hitting the “hard targeted” person, various other aspects makes gw2 a revolutionary game taking steps to get away from the traditional hard-targeting system used by practically all tab-target mmos. So the answer to why is, I LIKE gw2, but mostly for what it was supposed to be/was advertised at, less on its execution. This isn’t a difficult concept. It’s the same reason most people buy a product that sounds great but ends up being less than ideal.

It’s not as bad as people thought, and in fact many people think it’s just thieves who the bug pertains to, but that’s not the case. The real case is that most stealths are so short that the illusions don’t try to attack in that time frame, and don’t die. This happens pretty frequently still even against thieves. You can, however almost bet on them dying if you see either a shadow refuge, or black powder HS combo (assuming he does it twice).
Clones attack more or less constantly, so they will die even with a very short stealth. Phantasms might live, depending on the stealth and how lucky you get. The swordsman will almost always die due to a fast attack cycle. Same with the disenchanter.
No, this is true, some last longer than others. Warden actually rarely dies.

To have the absolute best in slot you need full ascended with omni infusions. Now full ascended you guys probably have an idea about what it costs. The omni infusions are around 120-150g/piece and you need around 16 of them. Do the math. Say it’s not grindy.

Yeah…the dishonesty and misrepresentation used to defend this game and developer decisions is just staggering. Fact of the matter is that in order to be on a level playing field in PvE or WvW you need to endure a hellacious grind. Which, of course, could be made a bit easier by spending a little cash at the gem shop. ::wink wink::

Well if we still get no sympathy after you can taste it, good riddance, I hope this bug lasts just as long as the moa one did. Also you can stealth cast moa, so it’s not always predictable/noticeable. Also, clones don’t die when the target stealths, they die when they try to attack (time counter) and the enemy stealths, so they don’t always die, mostly to thieves because their stealths last longer. I guess learn to deal with it like MM have to. >_>
Using one of the few stealth skills available (taking all 4 stealth skills is generally unnecessary) to cover the cast of a long cooldown elite is smart play.
I’m with DuckDuckBOOM on this – unless you’re 1v2+ or more mesmers all with moa, I don’t have much sympathy with necros on that, given how easily they can melt mesmers with conditions.
However back to the topic, that seems more interesting with illusions dying because they don’t have a target when they attack. Still worried about playing shatter vs thieves (or PU mesmers) now, but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve tested it myself.
Make an MM I bet you 100 bucks I can get you every time with moa. The other thing is, in tpvp you can stealth before being seen and moa them. Do you even use your brains to think about REALISTIC scenarios? You can STEALTH cast a doom spell on an entire build. No sympathy, really? Just goes to show this entire forum is greedy “I don’t want counters but other people can be countered by me, no problem. It makes sense”. You people are childish and ignorant.

Comparing a base profession mechanic (illusions) to an optional profession feature (minions) makes you sound laughable. I literally could care less about Necromancers, the cheesiest profession to deal with right now in sPvP, complaining about anything. Ever. Period. No just stop really.
Transformations are going to kill your summoned allies. It’s the one hard counter anyone has against that terribly handicapping joke of a petting zoo build.
Says a Mesmer a class BUILD around stealth and literally confusing the enemy. Talks about cheese. At least I can’t stealth behind my AI that looks just like me. Get over yourself.

Waiting sometimes hours spamming “LF1M Healer to go” if it is anything like GW1.
I’ve explained this. The game doesn’t need a hard trinity. It could have had a soft trinity.
DPS (power dmg, some ccs, no conditions/limited self boons. Bosses would lose defiance, and gain perma stability, but when they charge, now unblockable/evadable, power attacks it would go away so dps had to interrupt power attacks as their added role)
Support (Easy aoe boon access, better access to aoe protection, regen, might stacking etc)
Enfeebling/utility (Poison, chills cripples dot damage)
Then make dungeons in 2 parts. Free for all, you can have 5 of any of the 3 and do just fine.
Then Legendary modes where you’d need all 3 (any amount of either, but probably 3 dps 1 enfeebler 1 support) to complete with better loot rates and maybe even a unique currency to get Legendary-MODE skins you can only get by doing Legendary mode.
Right now, we have no trinity we have dps who can “support” themselves and go town. Most dps can even enfeeble just fine. Support and utility (both original gw2 trinity fields) are covered just by DPS builds. Their own design ruined what they had going for them.

I just wanted to say, they don’t die when the enemy stealths. The issue is that they are not retaining their targets when the enemy stealths. If someone stealths and comes out of it before they try to initiate an attack, they will get their target back and not die. As soon as they try to attack (aka their attack is NOT already being used, only when they try to initiate the attack) and they have no target, they die. As such, a Phantasmal Warden using his ability and someone uses a 3-4 second stealth, they generally won’t die. Shadow refuge however, or any stealth stacking can pretty much always kill them all.

We have raised a fuss lol. We’ve even had red posts suggesting it was a bug. Every 2 months or so, people beg and beg, it dies away. Anet doesn’t even comment on it anymore…

If I ever see one, and on that rare occasion he fails to block, dodge, or blind my moa attempt with its lengthy animation and excessive cooldown, I might stop and think of you.
The day I see a Mesmer try to moa me without stealthing and waiting .5-1.5 seconds after stealth to start casting to almost guarantee that it’ll land unpredictably I’ll stop and think of you.

I’m getting really sick of thieves, their mechanics are so overpowered – not in the sense that they can kill easily, but nobody should be able to go that invisible, evade that many times and regen their health like it’s nobodies business.
Oh god more whining about thieves… They’ve already nerfed nearly every skill the thief has (even though thieves were never considered OP in beta and received no buffs after that) and put a WvW item to completely disable stealth, what more do you want?

I like it. Most classes can have their signature abilities made useless temporarily by one or more class. No reason for Mesmer to be any different. Not like its impossible to keep someone from stealthing (including, like I mentioned before, a purchasable item to do so in WvW maps)

I’m sorta indifferent. Logically speaking, they don’t have a target anymore and generally of they got casted they attacked at least once so… Idk, I could get behind it. I was just making a point that mesmers have defended their moa bug killing minions for a long time and show no mercy, so I guess I’m a little vengeful. I’m happy to see them get a taste of their own medicine. XD

It’s a noted bug that has persisted since release. :P (Also, self transformations such as lich and plague kill minions for the same reason/bug. Ranger spirits, turrets etc do not de-spawn when moa’d…)

and charr are notorious for having fun.. i think you should seriously consider the gravity of distributing such an armor, it would seriously downgrade the uniqueness of the charr race and such an item would need to be recalled..
Our sources say that the fun will be significantly enough different from any race-specific amounts of fun to justify it as its own unique entity. Once people buy it, however we will probably change our minds and give you Maim-God armor, instead which of course rhymes with Lame, so everyone will be satisfied in the end.

Also, this bug hasn’t been around since release. I remember fighting Leon Harth. He was a mesmer that just stealthed and popped illusions. I remember distinctly using my D/P to stealth for 9 seconds and his iDuelist did not die. He just stood there until I unstealthed. That is fair. For a thief to do as I did and stealth to kill illusions is gayyyeee!

I support this change. Moa kills all minions, stealth kills all illusions. Minion’s don’t have a “master”, illusions don’t have a target, I mean. Fair is fair! It’s okay to have hard counters against mms, but Mesmer’s aren’t allowed to have one?
Just kidding, being a vengeful kitten . I feel for you. Just remember this though the next time you moa a Minion master.

Only the chest. It’s not a full set of feather fire stuff. (Missing chest and gloves. Gloves are very boring anyways)

I really think it would have been cooler, had they used the Winged Armor. It would look awesome if the designs on the clothing looked like they were etched in fire. =)
No, the wings don’t come extended on males. Would look terrible.
