I sure as hell hope not. Everyone would take Thief as 2nd class to run around with a perma-stealthing Guardian.
This is not an official reply from ArenaNet on the concerns raised, but it is an official announcements of what will happen with guild content in the upcoming content update:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/march-2013/
Relevant quote:
“New Guild Bounty Hunt Targets
More fugitives are on the run, and the Tyrian authorities need your guild to bring them in! Prepare yourself for a challenge, because these three new bounty targets are more elusive and menacing than ever. Bounty Hunt Training missions are perfect for a new or small guild looking to work their way up to bigger challenges.”Could these “bounty hun training missions” be a solution for small guilds? We can only wait and see.
(also, I’m plugging this again:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-Missions-merged/page/14#post1522077)
1) Let’s wait and see how much influence a guild needs to spend to unlock the training missions. And what it’s really made of. Tier 1, killing 2 NPCs isn’t that hard. The tracking is the hardest part.
2) Are they kitting us? Shouldn’t be thaaaat hard to make a small post about this in this very topic. They sure didn’t start developing the training missions just yesterday. They could have cooled all of this discussion down with a small posting that wouldn’t have taken longer than a coffee break to write.
900 rare staffs in and still no Legend. Guild mate got 4 precursors (2 dawn, 1 dusk, 1 frostfang) within 1 month and using about 60 rares in total. Talk about luck….
Thanks again for all the constructive feedback. It matters.
Thanks for a post like that. Would it be too difficult to post a comment like that in the Guild Missions thread? Maybe 3-4 sentences instead of 2? That would be MUCH appreciated.
You are aware that Bobby is a writer, right? He’s not a game designer.
He can pass it on to the designers. A posting like that doesn’t take long.

It seems like almost every interview the last few months have offered some excuse about relatively straight forward things they would/could/should be doing, but can’t because of a lack of coders. It’s not always that direct, but it seems they really do have a serious lack of coders and if you have a serious lack of coders and that lack is threatening the potential of the game’s ongoing financial success, you go out and get more coders.
I agree. Anybody else ever wondered why the “ANet is Hiring!” ad has been up for months now on the gw2 website? It doesn’t seem to be that simple for them to get the actual coders/artists/writers they want.
As to “we got this all for free”. Well, some of you are getting it for free while some of us are actually paying for it via gem purchases, often to sums greater than a typical monthly subscription fee. You might say “that’s optional and if you don’t like the ongoing development, stop buying gems”. Well, that’s really what my concerns all come back to.
The business model for the game relies on people making optional cash infusions to the company via the gem store. I have to seriously question their priorities and productivity when it comes to providing ongoing content needed to maintain and drive ongoing gem store revenue.
I’d still argue it is for free. I, for one, have also bough a dye pack, a key, or similar non-essential stuff out of my good-will to support the game. However, in the gem shop, I still only get what I pay for (a dye pack, a key, etc.). Halloween, more PvP maps, the karka slideshow
, guild missions, and so were/are available to anyone regardless of their participation in the gem shop. This IS content for free. If the monthly releases also encourages players to buy an additional bank slots/whatever, then this is great for ANet, but it is still optional. If I don’t like the current months release, then no harm is done, and maybe I will like the next month’s release.
Of course ANet should make it’s releases as good as possible to keep people interested in playing (and, as a side-effect, in spending). Yet, I still cannot understand the attitude of some people who seriously now feel entitled to a monthly “DLC’S worth of content for free” (to use a CJ-like description) and are not ashamed to complain rudely if they are not completely satisfied. (Again, this is not necessarily directed at your post, but I have seen enough posts that fit into that category.)

Well, it’s good that they are hiring, which means that things are hopefully running well and that they need to expand. But judging from the type of bugs they have, they seem to complete lack automated testing and bugfixers. Some of the bugs (e.g. bugged achievements [which could’ve been caught by automated testing]) seems like a shout out to developers that are test and quality oriented. They seem to lack this kind of stuff.
I don’t know their code base, but it seems that there are a hell lot of things that could be eeeeeasily fixed within a couple of days/weeks.
You look forward to hearing WHAT !? There is a 2000 thread about guild missions being crap and you don’t even respond to that.
My team and I are primarily focused on the Living Story aspect of the game right now. We support other teams with writing and VO (WvW, Guild Content, etc.) but don’t have a big hand in their process. Unless the bulk of the constructive feedback on Guild Missions is based around the writing or characters, I don’t really have anything to add to that discussion.
Do you seriously believe anyone still takes you seriously?
Some do. Some don’t. I do the best I can but don’t lose sleep over it.
The few Reds that I’m believe in are on the Dungeons and Support teams + John Smith, love that guy.
They’re a great bunch and deserve all the support and respect that people are willing to give them. They, like everyone else at ArenaNet, work really hard.
Other than that thanks for at least talking to the community, you’re one of the few that actually do that. The January patch was my favorite patch up till now.
You’re welcome.
I know you are on the Story Team and I know Guild Missions aren’t your responsibility, what I wanted to say is that ignoring such topics speaks bad about the ANet team as a whole. I really overreacted here and I apologize.
Once again thanks for being so open with us. Kitten you even replied to my trash talk.
A thousand times THIS! It’s the same story over and over again. So, if a Red is reading this, I’d just say that it’d be a good idea to hint the respective colleagues towards the guild missions thread.
They seem to holding off all the good stuff until an expansion or something. Meanwhile we get Living FedEx Story.
Considering that all that stuff (buildings, NPCs, etc.) has been there since launch, that’s an almost pathetically stupid decision to hold it off that long.
Thread Necromancy is a forbidden spell nowadays RedStar.
Lol, even still it’s interesting to look back and see what direction the devs wanted to take with their content a few months ago.
…and then didn’t. As usual ^^
I hope they cry everytime they read this thread.
I get the feeling that it’d be more likely that they’re laughing.
How about some coment from Anet on this problem?
I get so sick of posting on the forums and never getting any feedback. They say they read these but I have my doubts.
Thank you, you just made my day. I can’t stop laughing….feedback…on this forum….
Does anyone know if there’s work on localizing into other languages(personally interested in Japanese)? Only posts I can find referencing it seem to say it was planned for at release, but seven months afterwards I haven’t heard anything. This isn’t meant to complain, I know localization takes a ridiculous amount of time/effort but I guess i was spoiled with guild wars 1’s frankly crazykitten range of languages. They need to bring back bork! bork! bork! if nothing else :-P.
They should enable Japanese chat first. Kanji do work, but the font doesn’t include Hiragana and Katakana (which would be veeery easy to fix….)
I found the article about gw2 today. It was posted yesterday March 12th and addressed multiple concerns. One of them was guild missions.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolpinchefsky/2013/03/12/has-guild-wars-2-become-too-complicated/
Cool. They respond on Forbes but not on their own forums. That’s just hilarious.
Here’s a possible good midway point for the small guilds being to small to do it vs big guilds being to bored with it. Scale the content to the total number of members within the guild that starts the mission? I know I mentioned most of this previously but hey, here it is again.
So a guild of 5 would have bounties at 5 times their strength, a guild of 500 would have bounties at 500 times their strength (regardless of how many people are currently active). Alternatively just scale the start cost based on the guild size – 5 man = x5 influence cost per run. 500 = x500 influence cost per run. Easy.
Also for the love of god, don’t make bounties be wandering the whole kitten place until they are activated! If killed or time runs out make them despawn/turn invisible.
When activating a bounty check to see no other guilds currently have them active. If no bounties are available then just fricking say so. 15 minutes is not a long wait.
Also who decided that guild things have to be unlocked in order? Stupid call whoever you are. Go eat a flaming cat (flame legion are tasty).
And even if you ignore everything else I post, can ANet please respond here instead of on various other sites that are totally unrelated to GW2? Sure forbes and reddit maybe hip or whatever but you know where people look for GW2 stuff? On your own kitten webpage. Lyssa confound you.
I too find it frustrating and a bit disjointed to have to dig information up from other sites. Please use the forum if nothing more than providing a link in the forums to interviews such as the one on Forbes.
This interview addressed concerns about currency and guild missions. Both of which are pretty hot topics — especially the latter.
I wholeheartedly agree. And it gets more and more stupid. They just don’t learn.
I think every single argument as been brought up so far. What we need is a response, not repetition of arguments that already exist.
Our guild did the level 1 bounty this evening.
Our first target was Bookworm, which we killed no problem. Our next target was Tessa in Frostgorge Sound. With 10min on the clock left, we all ported to our targets location only to be moved in to the overflow map.
Because of this our guild didn’t get the reward for killing both targets. We also lose influence because we used influence to queue it up and we didn’t get the commendations. This is something that definitely needs to be fixed.
This makes it look even more poorly though out, not tested and just done in a rush. They used to do a better job on Gw1
Today I came to the conclusion that my small guild of 10-15 people is a lost cause. We need 40K influence to start these missions. We cant recruit because no one wants a small guild that doesnt have these unlocked yet. Believe me we have been trying! We cant get the influence because the few members we do have active are joining and repping other guilds so they can do the content. Ive played with some of these people for 3+ years and have formed friendships that now mean nothing because we cant get anything done as a group.
So either I accept the fact that Ill never get to see the new content and just keep mapping with all my alts til I quit the game from boredom or I join an impersonal, mega guild of people I dont know and cant get to know anyone because its so big and where Im just a number to fill a roster requirement.
This has really killed my enthusiasm for the game so Im leaning more toward just uninstalling and finding another game. Thanks alot Anet, you really know how to ruin a good thing.
Your forgot to add “…and then act as if nothing happened, careless as usual.”
Ok, looking at the latest patch notes from 2 hours ago tells me: they just don’t learn and/or listen.
How so? Looks like some of the fixes I know were an issue on a technical level were put in.
. . . crap now I have to find the Ori and Ancient Wood nodes again.
Yeah, but no changes related to the pressing problem.
Ok, looking at the latest patch notes from 2 hours ago tells me: they just don’t learn and/or listen.
This thread is still being ignored ? Why ?
I doubt it’s being ignored. There just hasn’t been a response yet. My guess is ArenaNet is surprised at the massively negative response (like they seemed to be with Ascended gear) and are trying to figure out how to respond.
It still feels like ignoring. But I think they’re just sitting it out. Like they always do.
What people dont realize is that “overflow” is not really a seperate server, but rather one of the other servers that are not currently full. Overflow is just a title that you got moved, not an actual “extra” server as many would like to believe.
This information is actually totally wrong. Overflow are separate from the worlds.
Don’t comment on Guesting and how Anet is going to fix it. Just point out player misinformation, awesome.
So Anet is too worried about Living Story to fix the problem plaguing a multitude of servers atm is what I am getting from this?
Did you expect something else?
And I do agree. The guesting and the lag is horrible at the moment. Really horrible.
Yea, I expected a “Hey wer’re working on it, sorry for screwing up the game so bad!”
And the problem isn’t JUST guesting… It’s all the baddies who farmed Dungeons all day can’t do it now.. ( well they can just DR doesn’t reset until daily does also now ) so they’re out doing the events now, like Dragons and Maw and etc…. So that large influx of people who weren’t jumping from event to event now are a present problem. Add that onto the Guesting problems and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Idk why but Anet likes to punish the masses for the deeds of a few…. Like farming for items for your legendary is going to make you so much gold or something. I just don’t get it.
I’ve given up the hope of getting a response to the actual problem and not some willy nilly stuff.
Hey, we were told that the game is not about grind, so why fix something that totally disrupts your playing experience just because a massive amount of players is farming and grinding?

Another possibility here is that ANET is trying to formulate an answer after such a negative reaction to the new content. After they were sounding so excited with what they were releasing they may be wondering what happened.
[snip]
It can be fixed, but they may be thinking of that right now.
I think the quoted post explains their silence on Guild Mission issues so far.
The community backlash probably stunned them, since they did not expect anything of the sort. (Apparently, they were under the assumption that nobody played in guilds with less than 10-15 active people during weekends.)
The problem is that the system is in place, and it can’t be changed without further upheaval. This is not a simple balance issue that can be fixed with some code. This is a potentially huge balance issue that retroactively affects long-term sunk costs expended by players since launch, with a direct link to the game economy.
No reply from ArenaNet may mean a mandated silence on everything to do with Guild Missions, while the issue has been escalated higher up, where a full course of action will be decided on and a public response will be drafted.
I’m guessing that the first response by ArenaNet on Guild Missions will be an announcement by Chris Whiteside.
If they didn’t expect it, why open a thread about our opinions and concerns? (Let alone the fact that they opened it 4 days before the patch went live, which is just kitten stupid)
They better do some Q and especially ANSWERS on the forum.
I’m sure they will fix it, but it could very well be another 6 months.
Haha, good one
The daily is account wide. So you don’t have to do the daily twice. And laurels are also account bound. So yes, you can buy things for your ele with the laurels earned on your mesmer.
But that supposes that they believe there’s actually a problem to begin with.
What if they honestly think everything is fine with this update and that this thread is a way to keep the vocal minority corralled?
In all likelihood, if they were to respond at all, they would go out of their way to avoid saying anything that could be construed as an admission of culpability. The most likely response would simply be “Just to let you know, we are reading this thread and noting your concerns”.
This tells people that the thread is being read, yet allows the developer an “Out”, in that they are not offering an opinion one way or another. “Your Concerns” allows them to infer that the community’s perceptions are not necessarily ones the development team should be concerned with.
At least it would be a response.
And they still don’t react on it. I get the feeling that they are trolling us and are currently laughing at the thread. I certainly don’t get the feeling that they care and want to communicate.
I don’t think it’s that.
At this point in time, it would be almost impossible for them to respond to this thread without it blowing up in their faces. It’s a PR and marketing disaster just waiting to happen, so from that point of view, it probably seems that the most sensible thing to do is ignore it and hope it goes away.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets locked soon with the excuse that the discussion seems to have run its course and that nothing constructive is being discussed any more (even though it really is at the moment).
A few pages back I posted a way how they could respond without the thread blowing up in their faces. Here:
I think most of us don’t expect them to come up with a solution right away. What we do expect is some sort of life sign. A simple “Hey guys, we’re actively reading all your suggestions and concerns and we are working on a way to fix this and explain our point of view in a blog post later. When we are done we’ll present you with the new solution and see what you guys think of it.”
This would cool down everyone and would ease the conversation. But, this would involve communication, and from past experience I conclude that they just don’t give a kitten.
Literally the biggest thread on the forums at the moment.
And they still don’t react on it. I get the feeling that they are trolling us and are currently laughing at the thread. I certainly don’t get the feeling that they care and want to communicate.
I have been trying to speculate why there hasn’t been very much response to this thread.
I am sure a lot of time was invested in this content as well as the future direction of the whole guild event project. It probably isn’t easy to modify that much content without doing what has been suggested many times here, thoroughly testing it.
We have given them a lot of great suggestions to consider.
I myself have been guilty on this very thread of throwing the dev’s words back in their face when it didn’t match up to what I had envisioned.
If I were a developer, I would be very sure of the next comments that were delivered in regards to this thread.
I don’t think they can/will ignore the issue. But they will have to be very careful how they make changes.
I guess they could say something innocuous like “We do hear you and we are working on a suitable modification.”
I am tired of waving my pitchfork, gonna go find a frosty mug. Life is too short.
Nope. I think most of us don’t expect them to come up with a solution right away. What we do expect is some sort of life sign. …
…
Why I am telling this story? Well only Anet can change the world structured around us, to help support making the world they made a good place to be or worse. It is up us (players, people) to maintain an environment, where we make it a better world then was intended.
I was the same up until now. From now on any thought of being neutral or supportive is hopelessly gone.
I’ve been a GW geek for years, but I think this was the last straw for me. Don’t get me wrong I like the game and will play it more. I’m just annoyed with the state of patches they release and the utter lack of communication with the community and no selective responses to mostly random threads is no real communication.
Anyway enough of that.
THIS! A thousand times THIS! They are able to respond to threads with what…10 posts? But never seem to care about threads with almost 1700 posts, which miiiiight indicate that the community cares about this particular topic. But they don’t seem to care about the community.
Last time Chris Whiteside mentioned in an interview that it’s so lovely to work with the community and I couldn’t resist but laugh.
Over 1600 and still no word of them…THAT is what’s baffling me.
We will be deploying a fix for this bug in the build for Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm, coming at the end of this month.
So this didn’t happen. Are we kittened?
Did you really expect them to fix it?
Be happy. Many people camping the JP equals less enemies on the actual battlefield.
Or sneak your way up as a mesmer, port your own people up and let hilarity ensue.
I’ll just quote Colin here and you can make up your own opinion:
“It helps. There’s still plenty of vicious folks who want us to be infallible and I wish we could be but I think we definitely get the benefit of the doubt more often than other studios do because at least we try to have that level of interaction and honesty with our fans as much as we can.”
I suspect ArenaNet created this thread to just let people vent. Doesn’t seem to serve any other purpose.
Of course it doesn’t. Why else would they start asking for our opinions & concerns only 4 days before the patch goes live? It’s just to create the illusion that they care. They couldn’t change anything anymore at this point.
Just because ANet doesn’t do specifically what some people want, it doesn’t mean they don’t know what they are doing…
It’s easy to criticise when focusing only a small portion of the problems they are trying to solve. Some respect and understanding can go a long way.
Doesn’t matter. It’s how they handle it. I mean, a thread with > 1000 posts is not something you ignore. They should say something, even if it’s just “We are looking into it and sifting through all the feedback and discussing it internally. We’ll come back with more info later.”
It’s astonishing how they still don’t learn. communi-kitten-cation.
If you want to have a good laugh, watch this interview with Chris , with his comment at 9:08.
Way too simple and easy solution. It’s not complicated enough and doesn’t upset the player base. Can’t be considered as trolling. Thus, they’ll never think about that.
Problem is that we are not allowed to doubt the forums, following the code of conduct.
Anyone else wants to hear an official statement that explains how they might want to change it (if they want to change it)? And not just a short answer but a fully detailed one? So that we get the feeling that they actually do care about the community?
I am always very disheartened when the request for a reply is phrased like the question: “have you stopped beating your wife yet?” It doesn’t invite an answer, it just invites a cold stare until either you slink off or they have to go to the restroom.
This is because due to forum rules, we are not allowed to do that in statement form. So, I’m not addressing them and demand it, but I’m asking my fellow players if they feel the same way.
Realistically, there is a lot of feedback here for ANet to sort through, assuming they actually do sort through it. Then internal discussion/debate, assuming there is a political opportunity/invitation to do so. Then time to build/form consensus internally, get management’s blessing, run it past marketing and hopefully avoid some of the botched messaging that was part of the problem to begin with.
That’s a lot of assuming. And you know what results from assuming.
So, no, realistically I do not actually expect a response from ANet on this thread.
Nor, realistically do I actually want one.
The real response will be through actual game mechanics and content. That will be their bottom line answer.
And frankly, given the pattern of responses that do not match action with the game, what they actually do with the game is the only response I would trust as “definitive”.
The new content is there. As is.
Unless that actually changes, ANet has already given its response.
The customers always have the right to respond by accepting, tolerating, or voting with their feet.
That is the choice my guild is currently debating.
.
.
I know that there is a lot of feedback to go through and internal discussions etc. But it’s the same thing over and over again. A simple “We hear you and we are having internal discussions and looking at all the feedback to figure out a solution. We’ll come back to you as soon as we have a plan” would cool a lot of us down and reassure us in our faith towards Anet. But they just don’t ever learn. Kitten communication.

Don’t speak your mind on these forums and if something concerns you it’s better to move on to another game, I just had several infractions “awarded” (I lol’d) because I simple replied with a +1 because I agree with some people, I’m not allowed to agree I MUST click on the +1 button instead ! o.O
Don’t mention these things. Someone just created a thread for it and it got deleted right away. Plus, this isn’t the right topic for it. It’s about the guild missions, not the other things they handle poorly.
Over 1000 posts and they are still not saying anything at all. Communicate with us
If this continues, I’m really starting to hope that ESO gets it right.
But the game is not about grinding….
I remember a famous quote by General Ackbar.
Hey all,
Instead of complaining about the issue I suggest we work towards a solution. Let’s throw idea’s out there and hopefully some stick for those at Anet.
The first thing that needs to be acknowledged is the new guild missions only honed in on an already existing problem. The larger the guild, the better the experience. You’ll have more people to play with and constant bonuses activated. It’s impossible for guilds smaller than several hundred members to be appealing with the current system. The route we are heading is only going to reduce the amount of variety in guilds.
So how do you fix it? The influence system needs to either be reworked or replaced with something else. A percentage based system is one solution. For example: “x Guild Mission unlocked for 10% of current influence”. This way, it won’t matter how much influence a guild has. Perhaps an even better suggestion is to consider having dynamic guild objectives to unlock upgrades. These objectives would scale based on a guilds size and activity. This can be worked in as a guild daily. Upon completion the guild is given 1 point towards unlocking an upgrade with upgrades varying in points.
Whatever they choose they need to make guild upgrades even across the board no matter what size the guild is.
Problem is: any call for an open discussion gets either ignored or deleted.
Pretty much, seems like they never learn.
I couldn’t agree more.
And the deleting starts again….way to handle PR…
Because that’s the major issue to comment on at the moment….sigh
Your thinking what I’m thinking mate
